Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a floor scrubbing machine.
  • the present invention relates to a floor scrubbing machine for professional use.
  • floor scrubbing machines for professional use
  • industrial environments for example, plants, workshops, laboratories
  • commercial environments for example, supermarkets and department stores
  • public buildings for example, stations, hospitals and the like
  • Such floor scrubbing machines can be of the "walk-behind” type if they are propelled by an operator walking behind the machine or of the "ride-on” type if the machine body includes a seat for the operator.
  • such floor scrubbing machines generally comprise a body which is mounted on wheels and inside which a supplying tank containing a cleaning liquid (usually a solution of water and a suitable detergent product) and a collection tank for the polluted cleaning liquid after use are provided.
  • a cleaning liquid usually a solution of water and a suitable detergent product
  • a motorized rotating brush is mounted in front positon on the lower wall of said body and the supplying tank is connected to said brush by means of a suitable duct: the fresh cleaning liquid is supplied by gravity to the brush, which - by virtue of the combination between the mechanical rotating and rubbing action and the chemical action of the cleaning liquid - removes dirt from the surface with which it comes into contact.
  • a rubber squeegee wiping the now dirty cleaning liquid and a suction duct which sucks said dirty cleaning liquid from the squeegee and takes it to the collection tank are also provided, in a rear position relative to the rotating brush, on the lower wall of the machine body.
  • Both “walk-behind” machines and “ride-on” machines are further equipped with electrical supply means for operating the rotating brush and the suction system and - possibly - for forward movement thereof.
  • said floor scrubbing machines allow to leave the floors they are passed on clean and substantially dry.
  • said floor scrubbing machines can be used for cleaning large areas, on the other hand they are not suitable for cleaning narrow and hardly accessible spaces.
  • the floor scrubbing machines of the type described above are not able to clean the lower part of vertical walls, which often - especially in public buildings - is as dirty as the floors.
  • the operator will have to temporarily leave the floor scrubbing machine, equip himself/herself with a bucket and a rag or a mop and manually wash the areas he/she cannot reach with the floor scrubbing machine.
  • US 4 893 375 discloses a floor scrubbing machine which may operate in two distinct modes: either as a walk-behind floor scrubber or as a manually-operated, scrub-and-recover system using a floor wand having a cleaning solution dispenser and convertible brush/squeegee at the working end of the wand for use in locations with difficult access.
  • the main object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved floor scrubbing machine that is able to overcome the limitations of the prior art and, in particular, allows to effectively clean also narrow and hardly accessible places.
  • Another object of the present invention is to provide a floor scrubbing machine that allows the operator to effectively clean environments with less time and effort.
  • the invention advantageously provides to exploit the separate tanks for supplying the cleaning liquid and for collecting the polluted cleaning liquid and the electrical supply means already present in the floor scrubbing machines of the traditional type.
  • the floor scrubbing machine comprises a high pressure water jet unit mounted on the body of the floor scrubbing machine and connected to the supplying tank for the fresh cleaning liquid.
  • Said high pressure water jet unit comprises a water jet dispensing nozzle, a piping connecting said water jet dispensing nozzle to the supplying tank for the fresh cleaning liquid, and pressurization means arranged on said piping for pressurizing said cleaning liquid.
  • At least one portion of said piping consists of a length of flexible hose.
  • the floor scrubbing machine according to the invention further comprises a wet vacuum cleaning unit mounted on the body of the floor scrubbing machine and connected to the collection tank for the polluted cleaning liquid.
  • Said wet vacuum cleaning unit comprises a suction head, a piping connecting said suction head to the collection tank for the polluted cleaning liquid, and suction means arranged on said piping for creating vacuum conditions allowing said cleaning liquid to be sucked.
  • At least one portion of said piping consists of a length of flexible hose.
  • the floor scrubbing machine is able to clean large surfaces as well as narrow and hardly accessible spaces, without the need for the operator to use additional and ineffective cleaning means such as buckets and rags.
  • the floor scrubbing machine comprises a steam cleaning unit comprising a boiler connected to the supplying tank for the fresh cleaning liquid, and a steam dispensing nozzle.
  • the floor scrubbing machine may be equipped with further accessory units.
  • said floor scrubbing machine may comprise a dry cleaning unit comprising for instance a motorized brush.
  • the illustrated floor scrubbing machine 1 is a machine of the "walk-behind” type.
  • the invention is as well applicable to floor scrubbing machines of the "ride-on” type.
  • said floor scrubbing machine 1 comprises a body 3 which is mounted on wheels 3a and houses a supplying tank 5 containing a suitable "fresh" cleaning liquid and a collection tank 7 adapted to collect the polluted cleaning liquid after use.
  • the cleaning liquid may be, for instance, a solution of water and a suitable detergent product.
  • the floor scrubbing machine 1 has, in front position on its lower wall, a motorized rotating brush 9 and a piping (not shown) connecting said supplying tank 5 to said rotating brush 9, whereby the cleaning liquid is supplied by gravity from said supplying tank to said rotating brush.
  • the floor scrubbing machine 1 further comprises electrical supply means - for instance a battery 11 - for operating the motorized rotating brush 9.
  • the floor scrubbing machine 1 has, in rear position on its lower wall, a rubber squeegee 13 for wiping the cleaning liquid polluted by the removed dirt left behind by the rotating brush 9.
  • a suction duct (not visible in the Figure) has its suction mouth arranged at the squeegee 13 and is connected to the collection tank 7: suitable suction means are provided for creating vacuum conditions sufficient for sucking solids and liquids wiped by said squeegee 13 and discharging them into said collection tank 7.
  • the floor scrubbing machine 1 further comprises at least one high pressure water jet cleaning unit 15 and one wet vacuum cleaning unit 17.
  • said additional units 15, 17 exploit components already existing in a conventional floor scrubbing machine, whereby the floor scrubbing machine 1 according to the invention maintains a simple, compact structure and reduced overall dimensions.
  • the high pressure water jet cleaning unit 15 comprises a piping that takes the fresh cleaning liquid from the supplying tank 5, and pressurization means for pressurizing said cleaning liquid.
  • said pressurization means - comprising for instance a compressor - are electrically powered by the battery 11.
  • the piping of the high pressure water jet cleaning unit includes at least one portion formed as a flexible hose 15a extending outside the body 3 of the floor scrubbing machine 1 and terminating with a water jet dispensing nozzle 15b.
  • a support 19 for said water jet dispensing nozzle 15b may advantageously be provided on the body 3 of the floor scrubbing machine.
  • the operator can reach narrow spaces and circumvent obstacles, thud reaching areas that could not be reached by the rotating brush 9. Furthermore, thanks to the water jet dispensing nozzle 15b, the operator can direct the cleaning liquid onto vertical walls, which, too, cannot be reached by the rotating brush 9.
  • the wet vacuum cleaning unit 17 comprises a suction head 17a, a piping connecting said suction head to the collection tank 7, and suction means arranged on said piping for creating vacuum conditions allowing said cleaning liquid to be sucked.
  • said suction means are electrically powered by the battery 11.
  • the piping of the wet vacuum cleaning unit includes at least one portion formed as a flexible hose 17b extending outside the body 3 of the floor scrubbing machine 1 and terminating with the suction head 17a.
  • a support 21 for said sucking head 17a may
  • the wet vacuum cleaning unit 17 can be used for removing by suction the dirt-polluted cleaning liquid formerly directed by the water jet dispensing nozzle 15b of the water jet cleaning unit 15 onto the surfaces to be cleaned.
  • the suction head 17a of the wet vacuum cleaning unit - thanks to the flexible hose 17b - can be used for removing by suction liquids and dirt from those places that could not be reached by the floor scrubbing machine.
  • the invention allows to attain the desired object as it remarkably increases the versatility of the floor scrubbing machine by exploiting at the maximum the already present elements and thus retaining a simple and compact structure.
