Abstract
Description
- Solution relates to an roof window, comprising an outer profile and a glazing seated in said outer profile. Where the outer profile comprising a top arm for pressing the glazing down and said top arm comprising at least one discontinuity for draining runoff water from the window surface. Solution relates to openable and unopenable roof window. Prior Art.
US 4750302 A discloses a skylight comprising a main supporting frame and a sash, the latter mounted hingedly in the main supporting frame. The glazing unit of the skylight is seated in the F-shaped outer encasing profile, wherein the glazing unit is located in the shelf of the profile formed by its two parallel arms. The connection between the glazing unit and the outer encasing profile is sealed on all sides with a sealing element so that runoff water can flow down from the window surface directly onto the flashing attached around the skylight and then onto the roof, whereby any leakage into the room is prevented. -
US 8191317 B2 discloses a skylight comprising a main supporting frame and a sash which are hingedly connected to each other. The skylight sash forms an outer profile encasing the glazing unit or pane, seated on a shelf gasket to which internal accessories can be attached. Similarly to the previous solution, the connection between the glazing unit and the profile is sealed with a sealing element so that runoff water cannot penetrate inside the room. The hinge member of the main supporting frame is integral with the counter-flashing element. The other hinge member, being a part of the sash, is attached to the internal surface of the outer profile encasing the glazing unit, or to the surface of the sash. - Solution relates to an openable or unopenable roof window mounted in a flat roof or in a sloping roof.
- The unopenable and openable roof window comprising a main supporting frame on which a glazing unit with the outer profile is seated, where outer profile with the glazing is roof winodw sash. The roof window may comprise also additional frame made of wood or plastic (bottom profile) and is placed on the main supporting frame. In unopenable roof window its sash is fixed to main supporting frame or the additional frame, where in openable roof window its sash is hingedly fixed to the main supporting frame or the additional frame.
- The sash frame is hingedly connected to the main supporting frame so that the window may be swung open. After opening window in swing mode the whole sash frame is outside the room.
- The outer profile is preferably made of aluminium or steel and comprising at least two elements: a top arm and a protective portion, preferably situated at an angle relative to each other. The outer profile may also comprises a bottom arm, parallel to top arm and placed in distance to the top arm. The profile top arm, when assembled on the glazing, partially extends over the external surface of the glazing unit and press the glazing unit down in direction of main supporting frame or the additional frame when present. The outer profile comprises also a protective portion, which is perpendicular to the top arm, and is arranged to protect the outer lateral surface of the window.
- The glazing unit is sealed with the outer profile with sealing compound or a gasket. The sealing compound is located between the top arm and the glazing unit as well as between side edge of the glazing and the prtective portion of the outer profile. The sealing compound blocks water to go under the top arm to the building's inside.
- A characteristic feature of the outer profile is at least one discontinuity in its top arm through which runoff water is drained from the window surface. This discontinuity can be in the form of a channel in the top arm through which water flows towards the channel bottom located in the protective portion of the outer profile, and then water flows onto the roof surface. Profile discontinuities are preferably located at corners of the outer profile or in its lower frame member.
- The sealing compound adheres to the glazing unit at spots where the profile discontinuity is absent so that water being drained is prevented from entering spots other than the water drainage channel.
- The outer profile surrounds roof window on its four sides and can be in the one-piece or multi-piece. In multi-piece form, the outer profile parts can be connected by additional elements by means of a fastening element or by snapping.
- The window according to the solution is most frequently installed within a flat roof or a low-pitch sloping roof, on the surface of which runoff water can accumulate. The proposed solution eliminates the problem by the presence of discontinuities in the outer profile around the glazing, hence forming water drainage. Also, the proposed solution provides mechanical attachment of the glazing unit. The outer profile together with discontinuities can be applied for maintenance or aesthetic purposes, as a replacement for windows previously installed on the roof or new windows, and it can be used together with any transparent module, for instance, the one made of glass, PMMA, etc.
- The subject of the solution is presented in the drawings, wherein
-
Fig. 1 shows a roof window with one-piece outer profile with discontinuities at corners of the outer profile; -
Fig. 2 shows a roof window with a one-piece outer profile with discontinuities in the lower frame member of the outer profile; -
Fig. 3 shows a corner of the outer profile with a discontinuity in the top arm; -
Fig. 4 shows a cross-sectional view of the window with an outer profile. - The roof window comprises an
outer profile 1 which, in its cross-section, has the F-letter shape and comprising a top arm 1', aprotective portion 1" and thebottom arm 1"'. When the window is assembled within the roof, the top arm 1' partially extends over the top surface of theglazing unit 2, which is seated on a shelf formed between the top arm 1' and thebottom arm 1"' of the profile. The top arm 1' comprises at least onediscontinuity 3', 3", respectively at the corner of theouter profile 1 or in its lower frame member. Thediscontinuity 3', 3" is a channel connected to thechannel bottom 5. Theprotective portion 1" extends over the lateral surface of theglazing unit 2. In order to provide window tightness, it is equipped with asealing element 4, which adheres to theglazing unit 2 at spots where thediscontinuity 3', 3" is absent so that water being drained is prevented from entering spots other than the water drainage channel. - In the second embodiment, the window comprises a additional frame on which the outer profile with the glazing unit is seated. The outer profile, in its cross-section, has the L-letter shape whose shorter arm, referred to as the "top arm", partially extends over the external surface of the glazing unit, whereas the longer arm forms the protective portion of an outer lateral surface of the glazing unit and a side of the sash frame. The top arm comprises discontinuity for draining off water.
- In another version of the solution, the window comprises an outer profile with a glazing unit which, in its cross-section, has the L-letter shape. The shorter arm, referred to as the "top arm", partially extends over the external surface of the glazing unit, whereas the longer arm forms the protective portion of the lateral surface of the glazing unit. The window is equipped with an additional bottom profile which serves as a shelf for the glazing unit. The outer profile and the bottom profile are permanently coupled together by means of a fastening element or by snapping. For the openable window comprising a main supporting frame, the protective portion of the outer profile partially extends over a side of the main supporting frame and is hingedly connected to the main supporting frame. The additional bottom profile is seated on roof window frame.
