Definitions
- the present invention relates to a drill stand according to the preamble of claim 1.
- drill stand where drill holes are to be made in for example floors or any other objects.
- the drill stand is used to carry the drill which is especially useful if drilling is a long lasting operation.
- These known drill stands comprise a base carrying the drill holder.
- the base usually has a somewhat rectangular shape, the drill holder being provided at one end of said base.
- the base commonly is provided with a total of four leveling feet, so as to place the drill stand exactly horizontally or level with any other surface.
- the leveling feet are provided at corners of said base.
- Tendency of most manufacturers is to provide four leveling feet so as to ensure a supposed high stability.
- other manufacturers apply three leveling feet which is thought to improve a quick installation since a smaller number of leveling feet has to be adjusted.
- the invention aims at providing a drill stand that can be used in all cases, whenever a highest stability is desired or a quick installation.
- the invention provides a drill stand according to claim 1.
- This drill stand provides the advantages as aimed according to the present invention.
- the invention provides a drill stand that has an even higher stability than any drill stand presently available on the market. Due to the position of the fifth leveling foot the stability is improved when all five feet are used. Also, it has shown that leveling of the drill stand can be performed quicker by using the drill stand according to the present invention. Such synergistic effect is a surprising but advantageous effect.
- the invention therefore relates to a drill stand, comprising a base for supporting a drill holder, said base comprising at least four leveling feet for leveling said base, said leveling feet being positioned at corners of a quadrangle, said drill stand being characterized in that the base further comprises a fifth leveling foot, said fifth foot being positioned substantially in between two adjacent feet.
- said fifth foot is positioned outside said quadrangle formed by said other four leveling feet. Such improves the total stability of the drill stand, since an area is covered by the five leveling feet is larger than the area covered by the said four feet.
- the said fifth foot may be positioned at a front side of the drill stand, which is the side where the drill holder is positioned, or at the rear side of the drill stand.
- said base comprising a drill holder extending from said base relatively closer to a first set of two leveling feet than to a second set of two leveling feet, wherein said second set of two leveling feet is positioned relatively further away from said drill holder, said fifth leveling foot being provided substantially in between said second set of two leveling feet.
- the fifth foot is positioned at the said rear side.
- a support for said drill holder is provided near said fifth foot. Such simplifies the positioning of the front side of the drill stand which is preferred if the surface the drill stand is positioned on has a highly irregular shape of consistency at said front side.
- said first set of two leveling feet is positioned parallel to said second set of two leveling feet. For, such provides highest stability in the direction from front to rear, which is required when drilling oblique holes wherein the drill holder is slanted backwards.
- a drill stand comprising a base that is embodied such that the leveling feet of the left side and right side are positioned mirror symmetrically is preferred. For, such yields highest stability in a direction from left to right, vice versa.
- the fifth foot can be positioned on the line mirror symmetry for yielding a highest stability in the front to rear direction.
- preference is given to a drill stand wherein said four leveling feet are positioned such that a first leveling foot of a first set and a first leveling foot of a second set are positioned mirror-symmetrically with respect to a second leveling foot of a first set and a second leveling foot of a second set of leveling feet, and wherein said fifth foot is positioned on a line of said mirror-symmetry.
- An easy leveling may be obtained if each leveling foot being received in a threaded hole, said foot being equipped with mutual thread, optionally provided with a nut for locking said foot with respect to said base.
- Leveling is obtained by turning each foot in said threaded hole for moving an end of said leveling foot in or out of said hole.
- the invention relates to a base for a drill stand according to the present invention, said base comprising at least four leveling feet for leveling said base with respect to a surface, said leveling feet being positioned at corners of a quadrangle.
- the base is characterized in that it further comprises a fifth leveling foot, said fifth foot being positioned substantially in between two adjacent feet.
- the invention relates to a method for leveling a drill stand according to the invention, comprising the steps of: - positioning the drill stand on a surface and adjusting a first set of two leveling feet and the fifth foot for obtaining a substantially level position, and - subsequently adjusting a second set of two leveling feet for providing a maximum stability; said fifth foot being positioned substantially in between said set second set of two leveling feet.
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic perspective view of a base 1 for a drill stand according to the invention.
- Said base 1 has a substantially quadrangular shape with four corners 2, 3, 4, 5.
- a front side 6 of said base 1 is embodied for carrying a drill holder (not shown), simplified denoted by a receiving slot 7.
- Other means may be provided for connecting a drill holder to the base 1.
- Near said corners 2, 3, 4, 5, leveling feet 9, 10, 11, 12 are provided for adjusting the height of the base 1 with respect to an underlying surface.
- a first set of leveling feet 9, 10 is provided near said front part 6, whereas a second set of leveling feet 11, 12 is provided near said rear part 8 of base 1.
- a fifth leveling foot 13 is provided at a position in between leveling feet 11, 12 at a rear side 8 of the base 1.
- Fig. 2 indicates a schematic top view of a base 1 for a drill stand according to the invention. Besides the particulars as mentioned with respect to Fig. 1 , a line of symmetry 14 is shown as well. Said line 14 is a line of mirror symmetry 14. Fifth foot 13 is positioned on said line 14, providing optimum stability. Also, receiving slot 7 is positioned on said line 14 as well.
- fifth foot 13 is positioned substantially in line with leveling feet 11, 12. However, fifth foot 13 may be shifted to a position towards the front side 6 or the rear side 8.
- the invention also relates to all combinations of features described here independently of each other.
