Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The subject of the present invention is a braking and locking structure for sliding wings in general and, in particular, for wardrobes, furniture, etc.
  • As is known, sliding wings, of a piece of furniture for example, are often provided with return or temporary locking devices that allow to hold the wings in a closed and/or open position.
  • Such devices are also used for the guided closing of wings, in order to prevent the wings from slamming into the jamb or remaining in a not entirely closed or open position.
  • There are various known devices for guiding and damping the movement of a wing, generally located at the end of the recess or space closed by the wing.
  • Some of these known devices are constructively complex, as they are constituted by a variety of parts that must be assembled together beforehand, and with great care regarding the precision of assembly.
  • The mechanical complexity of these devices and a possibly imperfect assembly easily cause malfunctions, such as jamming or friction, undermining the operation of the device and therefore preventing the correct closing or complete opening of the wing.
  • Furthermore, the known types of return devices have problems related to the use of return springs that do not have a constant force along the travel or stroke of the wing, resulting in a weak force along the final part of travel and, conversely, an excessive spring force in the final part of release.
  • Another drawback of the above-described mechanical systems is due to bothersome operating noises.
  • Damping systems have been proposed that use magnets and, if necessary, shock absorbers, to guide and brake the wing movement.
  • These magnetic devices suffer from a certain constructional complexity and are susceptible to improvement from a functional viewpoint, especially regarding the force of attraction and retention of the wing in the end position. WO 2006/118574 A1 discloses a braking and locking structure according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The aim of the present invention is to provide an improved braking and locking structure, in particular for furniture wings, compared with known types of damping systems.
  • Within the above aim, one object of the invention is to provide a structure that enables to hold the wing more firmly in the desired end position, i.e. completely closed and/or completely open.
  • Another object is to provide a structure that is constructively simple and long-lasting.
  • A further object of the present invention is to provide a structure that, due to its unique constructional characteristics, is very reliable and safe in operation.
  • These and other objects, which will become more apparent hereinafter, are achieved by a braking and locking structure for sliding wings, according to claim 1.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Further characteristics and advantages of the subject of the present invention will become clearer by considering the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment of the invention, illustrated by way of an indicative but non-limitative example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
    • Figure 1 is a partial perspective view of a wing of a piece of furniture provided with the braking structure of the present invention, shown in an open position;
    • Figure 2 is a similar view to the previous one, but showing the wing in a closed position;
    • Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the fixed portion of the structure;
    • Figure 4 is a perspective view of the fixed portion, shown in an assembled condition;
    • Figure 5 is a perspective view of the movable portion with a bracket; and
    • Figure 6 is a perspective view of the movable portion with a wheel carrier.
    DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • With particular reference to the number references in the aforementioned figures, the braking and locking structure according to the invention is indicated as a whole by the reference number 1 and comprises a fixed portion 2 that can be associated with a fixed part 5 of a recess or space, and a movable portion 3 that can be associated with a wing 4 adapted to close the recess or space.
  • The fixed portion 2 is formed by two half-shells indicated by the reference numbers 21 and 22, respectively, which define a seat for an oil damper 23, equipped with a stem 24.
  • The half- shells 21 and 22 also define a seat for a fixed metal plate 25 above which is arranged a fixed magnet 26, arranged longitudinally in the half-shells.
  • In the assembled condition, the half- shells 21 and 22 also define a rail 27 along which a slider 28 can slide.
  • The slider 28 is made integral with a carriage 31, which supports and holds a movable metal plate 32 above which is arranged a movable magnet 33, arranged longitudinally in the carriage 31.
  • When referring to the movable plate 32 and the movable magnet 33, the term "movable" means that these elements form part of the movable portion 3; similarly, when referring to the fixed metal plate 25 and the fixed magnet 26, the term "fixed" means that these elements form part of the fixed portion 2.
  • The carriage 31 can be associated with a bracket 34, as can be seen in Figures 1, 2 and 5, and/or a wheel carrier 35, as can be seen in Figure 6.
  • The fixed magnet 26 attracts the movable magnet 33, urging the carriage 31 up to a closed position, in which the magnets are substantially overlapping, in the closed wing position that can be seen in Figure 2.
  • The fixed metal plate 25 and the fixed magnet 26 can also be arranged in a slanted or inclined position, thereby a greater attracting force being exerted between the fixed magnet 26 and the movable magnet 33 mounted on the carriage 31.
  • The structure of the present invention can be advantageously used as a dampened end stop for a wardrobe wing or a wing for furniture in general.
  • The structure can also be used for other sliding components, such as for example doors, dividers, etc.
  • Due to the action of the damper 23, the structure of the present invention allows to slow down the end part of the wing movement, bringing it to the completely closed or open position and firmly holding it there.
  • The main advantage of the present invention is the fact that the structure is constructively simple and is constituted by a small number of components, endowing the structure with operating reliability and low costs.
  • Of course, the materials used, as well as the dimensions, may vary according to requirements.

Claims (6)

  1. A braking and locking structure (1) for sliding wings, comprising a fixed portion (2) that can be associated with a fixed part (5) of a recess or enclosed space, and a movable portion (3) that can be associated with a wing (4) adapted to close the recess or space; said fixed portion (2) and said movable portion (3) defining at least one end position, in which said movable portion (3) is arranged at least partially above said fixed portion (2), and an intermediate position, in which said movable portion (3) is spaced away from said fixed portion (2); said structure (1) comprising magnetic means, adapted to urge said movable portion (3) along a longitudinal direction from said intermediate position to said end position, and damping means adapted to slow down and brake said movable portion (3) as it reaches said end position; said magnetic means comprising magnetic elements (26,33) arranged longitudinally in said fixed and movable portions (3, 2); in said end position, said magnetic elements being positioned one above the other, characterized in that said fixed portion (2) is formed by two half-shells (21, 22), which define a seat for the damping means, wherein said damping means is an oil damper (23) having a stem (24), and in that said half-shells (21, 22) define a seat for a fixed metal plate (25) above which is arranged the magnetic element of the fixed portion (2), wherein said magnetic element is a fixed magnet (26), arranged longitudinally in said half-shells (21, 22).
  2. A structure (1), according to claim 1, characterized in that, in an assembled condition thereof, said half-shells (21, 22) define a rail (27) along which a slider (28) of the structure (1) can slide.
  3. A structure (1), according to claim 2, characterized in that said slider (28) is integral with a carriage (31), which supports and holds a movable metal plate (32) above which is arranged a movable magnet (33), arranged longitudinally in said carriage (31).
  4. A structure (1), according to claim 3, characterized in that said carriage (31) can be associated with a bracket (34) and/or a wheel carrier (35).
  5. A structure (1), according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said fixed magnet (26) attracts said movable magnet (33) urging said carriage (31) up to the closed position in which said magnets (26, 33) are substantially overlapping, in said end position.
  6. A structure (1), according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that said fixed metal plate (25) and said fixed magnet (26) of said fixed portion are arranged in a slanted or inclined position, thereby a greater attracting force being exerted between said fixed magnet (26) and said movable magnet (33) mounted on said carriage (31).
