Description

The invention relates to an embossing tool for producing a security element with an optically variable structure, the optically variable structure showing a tilting effect when the security element is tilted about an axis. The embossing tool here consists of an embossing plate with a surface, the surface of the embossing plate having a multiplicity of channel-shaped depressions arranged essentially parallel to one another. These channel-shaped depressions each consist of a first and a second flank, which lie opposite one another, the first flank of a depression and the second flank of the depression adjacent to this depression converging towards one another in the direction of the surface of the embossing plate. Furthermore, a flat area is arranged between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of the depression adjacent to this depression, which is aligned essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate.

To protect against counterfeiting, especially with color copiers or other reproduction methods, data carriers such as banknotes, securities, credit or identification cards, passports, certificates and the like, labels, packaging or other elements for product security are equipped with optically variable security elements. The protection against counterfeiting is based on the fact that the visually and easily and clearly recognizable optically variable effect is not or only insufficiently reproduced by the above-mentioned reproduction devices. In particular, the optically variable security elements have a corresponding haptic that is difficult to copy, but easy to check and without tools.

Such an optically variable security element, which shows a tilting effect when the security element is tilted about an axis, is, for example, out of WO 2013/045055 A1 known. Here, a security element with an optically variable structure is known, which has a plurality of first embossed structures. Each of the first embossed structures consists of at least two flanks that converge at least at a certain angle. The WO 2013/045055 A1 also relates to an embossing tool for producing this security element. Here, an embossing plate has depressions with which prism or pyramid-shaped embossing structures are produced. A substrate is placed on the surface of the embossing plate, pressed into the depressions with high mechanical pressure and deformed. The basic embossing line of the embossing plate advantageously has a straight upper edge, which stands up to the lasering and is always "undamaged" constant.

A disadvantage of the basic shape of the prismatic or pyramidal embossed structures WO 2013/045055 A1 is, however, that their basic form shows the same tipping effect from all viewing directions. To solve this disadvantage, the WO 2013/045055 A1 proposes that in at least one partial area of the optically variable structure at least one flank of the first embossed structures each has at least one additional embossed structure which is placed on the flank of the first embossed structures or inserted into the flank of the first embossed structures. Such an embossing structure, however, requires an increased technical outlay when engraving the corresponding embossing plate.

Out WO 00/20217 A1 a intaglio printing plate for full-surface printing of contiguous print image areas is known, in which the print image is worked into the surface of the printing plate in the form of an engraving. Here, dividers are provided in the engraved, ink-receiving areas, which divide the engraved areas into partial areas, the dividers being designed in such a way that they have no surfaces at the level of the printing plate surface. In addition, the ends of the separating webs pointing outwards can be removed after the recesses forming the fine structure have been engraved. These upper ends of the dividers, which are designed as a plateau, produce fine bright lines in the printed image.

With the intaglio printing plate WO 00/20217 A1 However, no embossed structures are produced that show a tilting effect that depends on the viewing angle. Even if these embossed structures showed a tilting effect, they would show the same tilting effect from all viewing directions.

Out EP 0 429 782 A1 a diffraction-optically effective diffraction structure is known, each consisting of a diffraction-optically effective microstructure, the microstructures having approximately 300 to 3000 lines per millimeter or a line width of 300 nm to 3 μm.

Out EP 2 886 356 A2 a fine structure is known which is arranged within a macroscopic embossed structure. This fine structure has a depth of 0.1 µm to 10 µm and is, for example, a diffraction structure. The macroscopic embossed structure, on the other hand, has a depth in a range from 13 µm to 30 µm.

The invention is therefore based on the object of developing a generic embossing tool in such a way that the disadvantages of the prior art are eliminated.

This object is achieved by the features of independent claim 1. Further developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

According to the invention, the first flank of each groove-shaped depression has a different angle of inclination with respect to the surface of the embossing plate than the corresponding second, opposite flank. The first flank is preferably steeper than the second flank. The angle of inclination of the first flank is preferably 0 ° to 40 °, particularly preferably 10 ° to 30 ° and very particularly preferably 20 ° to 30 ° with respect to the surface normal of the surface of the embossing plate or the perpendicular to the surface of the embossing plate. 0 ° here means that the flank is aligned perpendicular to the surface of the embossing plate. The flanks can also be arc-shaped, curved and / or stair-shaped, so that the angle of inclination of a flank changes with increasing distance from the surface of the embossing plate.

The groove-shaped depressions according to the invention are thus asymmetrically shaped, so that the embossing structures produced with this embossing plate result in a different tilting effect from different viewing directions, depending on which of the two flanks the viewer is looking at.

According to a preferred embodiment, it is provided that the embossing tool is an embossing stamp or a printing plate, in particular an intaglio printing plate, and the depressions are designed as an engraving in the surface of the embossing tool.

In addition, a plateau is formed by the flat region, which is arranged between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of the depression adjacent to this depression and is oriented essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate. This plateau has the advantage over pointed structures that it is less sensitive to erosion by processing tools with which the embossing tool is engraved, in particular a (wide) laser beam. Furthermore, plateaus are less sensitive to deburring, cleaning and polishing the embossing tool, for example by means of a doctor blade, polishing agent, abrasive, etching process or by means of rotating brushes, and thus have less plate wear. Furthermore, subsequent chrome plating of the embossing tool has better adhesion to the carrier material, which further reduces mechanical wear.

In this context, essentially parallel means that the angle between the depression or the plateau and the surface of the embossing plate or the groove-shaped depressions relative to one another is preferably 0 ° (exactly parallel) and particularly preferably 0.5 ° to 5 °.

Special advantages of the embossing tool according to the invention are furthermore that the plateau leads to a reduction in the sharpness of the edges, so that a possible paper injury can be prevented during embossing and the durability of the wiping cylinder of a low-pressure printing machine can be increased. Conversely, the plateaus are also less sensitive to wear from the wiping cylinder.

The embossing tool according to the invention is particularly preferably suitable for engraving processes in which a laser beam is used to rotate into a rotating cylindrical workpiece made of plastic, for example Kapton, or of metal, for example Brass, is engraved, the so-called "Computer to Intaglioplate" or "CTiP" process. The invention preferably makes it possible to use CTiP systems and thus to enable the use of “data commercial goods”, that is to say predetermined embossed data for certain denominations of a currency's denominations. Even if the laser diameter is not compensated for, a suitable choice of the plateaus prevents damage to the desired embossed structures by providing sufficiently broad plateaus within the data structure.

Furthermore, systems with a lower physical resolution can now achieve an appealing result.

However, the invention is not only limited to embossing tools that are engraved using a laser beam. Rather, all other engraving methods known from the prior art can also be used, such as mechanical engraving using a stylus.

According to a preferred embodiment, it is provided that the cross-sectional area of the groove-shaped depressions arranged essentially parallel to one another is triangular or trapezoidal. For example, a triangular cross-sectional area results in embossed roof-like structures.

It is also particularly expedient if the ratio of the distance between adjacent engravings and the corresponding engraving depth, the so-called aspect ratio, is 1: 5 to 20: 1, preferably 1: 3 to 10: 1 and particularly preferably 1: 2 to 6: 1 is.

Erfindungsgemäß beträgt die Tiefe der im Wesentlichen parallel zueinander angeordneten, rinnenförmigen Vertiefungen 10 µm bis 250 µm, bevorzugt 10 µm bis 100 µm und besonders bevorzugt 10 µm bis 80 µm.According to the invention, the depth of the groove-shaped depressions arranged essentially parallel to one another is 10 μm to 250 μm, preferably 10 μm to 100 μm and particularly preferably 10 μm to 80 μm.

According to a further preferred embodiment, it is provided that at least one of the flat regions which are arranged between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of the depression adjacent to this depression and which are aligned essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate, relative to the surface of the Stamping plate is lowered.

According to a further preferred embodiment, it is provided that between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of this depression a second flat region is arranged, which is aligned essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate. Here, not only do the "peaks" of the depressions which face the surface of the embossing plate have a plateau, but also the "valleys" which face away from the surface of the embossing plate.

According to the invention, the width of a flat area, i.e. both the "peak" and the "valleys", 1 µm to 100 µm, preferably 5 µm to 50 µm and particularly preferably 10 µm to 30 µm.

An optically variable element in the sense of this invention is an element whose visual appearance changes when the element is tilted. For example, when the optically variable element changes its color, a bar appears to move from one side of the element to another, different characters are displayed when the element is tilted, or a so-called pump effect results in the form of an enlarging or reducing outline of an image motif.

The substrate into which the embossed structures are embossed is particularly preferably made of paper made from cotton fibers, such as is used for banknotes, for example, or from other natural fibers or from synthetic fibers or a mixture of natural and synthetic fibers, or from at least one plastic film. Furthermore, the substrate preferably consists of a combination of at least two different substrates arranged above one another and connected to one another, a so-called hybrid. Here, the substrate consists, for example, of a combination of plastic film-paper-plastic film, i.e. a paper substrate is covered on either side by a plastic sheet, or a combination of paper-plastic sheet-paper, i.e. a substrate made of a plastic film is covered on both sides by paper.

Valuable documents in which such a substrate or security paper can be used are, in particular, banknotes, shares, bonds, certificates, vouchers, checks, high-quality admission tickets, but also other papers that are at risk of forgery, such as passports and other identification documents, as well as cards such as credit cards. or debit cards, the card body of which has at least one layer of security paper, and also product security elements such as labels, seals, packaging and the like.

The simplified naming of the value document includes all of the above materials, documents and product securing means.

The Fig. 1 shows a side view of an embossing tool known from the prior art in the form of an embossing plate 1, into which a plurality of groove-shaped depressions 2, which are arranged essentially parallel to one another and whose cross-sectional area in this exemplary embodiment has a triangular shape, is engraved. The two flanks 2.1 and 2.2 of each recess 2 each have the same angle of inclination α with respect to the surface normal of the surface of the embossing plate 1 or also the vertical on the surface of the embossing plate 1.

A flat region 3 or a plateau is arranged between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of the depression adjacent to this depression, said plateau being aligned essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate.

Fig. 2 shows an inventive development of the prior art. Opposite the stamping plate 1 Fig. 1 have the depressions 5 of the embossing plate 4 flanks 5.1 and 5.2, which have different angles of inclination with respect to the vertical. The flank 5.1 has the inclination angle β and the flank 5.2 has an inclination angle close to or equal to 0 ° with respect to the vertical. Of course, the flank 5.2 can also have an angle of inclination different from 0 °, provided that this angle is not equal to the angle of inclination β of the flank 5.1.

The width of a flat region 3 or plateau is b 1 , the width of a depression b 2 and the depth of a depression t. The depth-to-width ratio of a depression is thus the ratio t / b 2 .

Fig. 3 shows an embossing plate 4 according to the invention, in the opposite of the embossing plate Fig. 2 Between the first flank of a depression and the second flank of this depression, a second flat region 6 or a further plateau 6 is arranged, which is aligned essentially parallel to the surface of the embossing plate.

Fig. 4 shows an embossing plate 4 according to the invention, in the opposite of the embossing plate Fig. 2 the areas 3 are lowered from the surface of the embossing plate by the distance a. Of course, it is also possible for all areas 3 to have different distances from the surface of the embossing plate. The distance a is preferably 5 μm to 100 μm, particularly preferably 10 μm to 50 μm and very particularly preferably 10 μm to 30 μm.

Fig. 5 shows an embossing plate 4 according to the invention, in the opposite of the embossing plate Fig. 2 the depth of each recess 5 is different. In the illustrated In the exemplary embodiment, the depth of the depressions becomes smaller from left to right. The dashed line represents the depth t of the left depression.

Fig. 6 shows an embossing plate 4 according to the invention, in the opposite of the embossing plate Fig. 5 in addition, the distance between the areas 3 and the surface of the embossing plate is also reduced. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the distance between the areas 3 increases from left to right. The dashed lines represent the depth t of the left depression or the upper edge of the embossing plate without depressions.
