Description

    TECHNICAL FIELD
  • The present invention generally relates to money handling apparatuses, and more particularly, to money handling apparatuses and money handling methods, in which collection methods may be set for respective types of money such as currency units.
  • BACKGROUND ART
  • Money handling apparatuses having been used in financial institutions and distribution institutions recognize and sort deposited money. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses that a money handling apparatus recognizes whether deposited banknotes are genuine notes or counterfeit notes, and use a separator card to separate counterfeit notes from genuine notes collected in the same collection cassette. This eliminates the need for a plurality of collection cassettes, and allows money to be efficiently stored.
  • Prior Art Reference Patent Document

  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Technical Problem
  • There are various demands from customers for methods of collecting money. For example, some would like to collect counterfeit notes without using collection cassettes, and employing other means. For these customers, the function to separate collected banknotes by means of a separator card is not needed. This function rather causes a disadvantage since the size of the money handling apparatus with this function is increased, resulting in an increase in the manufacturing costs.
  • Other customers would like to collect money by a condition other than whether they are genuine notes or counterfeit notes. For example, there is a demand for a money handling apparatus handling a plurality of types of currencies (so-called "multi currency compatible money handling apparatus") to store each type of currency in a different unit. There may also be a demand from other customers in limits areas that a plurality of types of currencies be collected in a mixed manner.

    DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
  • Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  • <Configuration of Money Handling Apparatus 100>
  • A money handling apparatus 100 according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGs. 1 to 3. FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an external appearance of the money handling apparatus 100 according to the embodiment. FIG. 2 is a configuration diagram of the inside of the money handling apparatus 100. FIG. 3 is a functional block diagram of the money handling apparatus 100. Although the money handling apparatus 100 according to the embodiment is a banknote handling apparatus, the money handling apparatuses according to the present invention is not limited to banknote handling apparatuses, but may also be coin handling apparatuses.
  • The money handling apparatus 100 has a depositing function, a dispensing function, a refilling function, and a collecting function. The depositing function is for taking in money received from a customer into the apparatus. The dispensing function is for dispensing money in the apparatus through a dispensing unit (outlet) in order to provide the money to the customer. The refilling function is for refilling the money handling apparatus 100 with money. The collecting function is for collecting money in the apparatus at the outside of the apparatus in order to appropriately manage the total amount of money in the apparatus. The money collection includes full collection in which all the money in the apparatus (in the housing 1, which will be described later) is collected, and partial collection in which a part of the money in the apparatus is left, and the remaining is collected.
  • As shown in FIGs. 1 to 3, the money handling apparatus 100 includes a housing 1, a reception unit 2, a transport unit 3, a recognition unit 4, storing units 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, and 5e, a collection method setting unit 6, a control unit 7, a collection unit 8, a dispensing unit 9, an input unit 10, a communication unit 11, a memory unit 12, and an interpretation unit 13. Hereinafter, respective units will be described.
  • The reception unit 2 is configured to receive money to be stored in the housing 1. The reception unit 2 includes a banknote feeding unit 2a capable of feeding banknotes, as shown in FIGs. 1 and 2. The banknote feeding unit 2a also serves as a banknote receiving unit configured to receive banknotes from the outside, and to feed the banknotes one by one. The banknote feeding unit may be a banknote cassette for housing and feeding banknotes.
  • The transport unit 3 is configured to transport the money received by the reception unit 2. In more detail, the transport unit 3 transports, to a predetermined destination, the banknotes fed by the banknote feeding unit 2a and received in the housing 1. For example, the transport unit 3 transports the banknotes to the storing units 5a to 5e, an outside rejection unit 31, or an inside rejection unit 32. The transport unit 3 also transports the banknotes stored in the storing units 5a to 5e to the dispensing unit 9 or collection stacker unit 33 (collection unit 8).
  • The recognition unit 4 includes various sensors (such as a magnetic sensor, a fluorescent sensor, a metal thread sensor, a thickness sensor, and an image sensor) to recognize the types of money transported by the transport unit 3. The "types" of money herein means the types of currency, denomination, authentication, version of paper sheet (new note/old note), fitness (fit note/unfit note), etc. The types of currency include, for example, Japanese yen, US dollar, British pound, and Euro. The types of currency may be local currency and foreign currencies (for example, Euro and the other currencies).
  • If Euro banknotes are used, the types of banknote may be represented by "categories." The categories are determined by the characteristics of Euro banknotes. According to the definitions set by the European Central Bank (ECB), the banknotes are classified into five categories. First, the banknotes are sorted into genuine notes and counterfeit notes within the recognition capability of a predetermined banknote handling apparatus. The genuine notes are further sorted into two groups depending on the degree of damage, ones that may be used without any problem being called "fit notes," and others that may not be used due to the damage being called "unfit note." As a result, the five categories include "genuine note and fit note," "genuine note and unfit note," "counterfeit note," "unconfirmed note" which the banknote handling apparatus cannot determine as a genuine note, and "rejected note."
  • The storing units 5a to 5e store the money transported by the transport unit 3. For example, the storing units 5a to 5e store the banknotes recognized by the recognition unit 4 based on the denominations thereof. The storing units 5a to 5e are configured to be capable of feeding the stored banknotes one by one. The fed banknotes are transported by the transport unit 3 to such destinations as the collection unit 8 and the dispensing unit 9.
  • At least one of the storing units 5a to 5e may be used to collect the banknotes. For example, the storing unit 5e may be used as an overflow unit for the collection unit 8. In this case, if the collection unit 8 reaches a full state, the banknotes to be collected thereafter are transported to and stored in the storing unit 5e.
  • The collection unit 8 stores the money to be collected. In more detail, the collection unit 8 collects the money stored in the storing units 5a to 5e. The collection unit 8 includes a fitting portion 8a and a storage bag (pouch) 8b as shown in FIG. 2. The fitting portion 8a is configured so that the storage bag 8b can be fixed thereto with fixing pins etc. The storage bag 8b is flexible, and can be hermetically sealed. The storage bag 8b is formed of plastic or a soft material such as cloth, and can be folded to reduce the size depending on the volume of the stored money.
  • The collection unit 8 may include a cassette money box (not shown) instead of the storage bag 8b. The cassette money box may be of recycling type, from which the stored banknotes may be fed, or of dedicated storage type from which no stored banknote may be fed.
  • The storage bag 8b (or cassette money box) is attachable to or detachable from the housing 1 via the fitting portion 8a. The collection unit 8 may also have a box disposed in the housing 1 or a drawer slidably fixed to the housing 1 in order to store the money to be collected.
  • The collection unit 8 may also include a plurality of storage bags 8b (or a plurality of cassette money boxes). In this case, the number of storage bags 8b (or cassette money boxes) included in the collection unit 8 is less than the number of types of money recognized by the recognition unit 4. If the collection unit 8 includes both the storage bags and the cassette money boxes, the total number of bags and boxes is less than the number of types of money. Therefore, as will be described in detail later, the collection methods should be set for respective types of money.
  • The dispensing unit 9 is configured to dispense the money stored in the storing units 5a to 5e to the outside of the housing 1, as shown in FIGs. 1 and 2.
  • The input unit 10 is configured to receive instructions of an operator. For example, the input unit 10 may be a touch panel attached to the housing 1 as shown in FIG. 1, which receives instructions of the operator and displays various messages and money handling results. The input unit 10 is not limited to the touch panel, but may be buttons, a keyboard, a card reader, etc.
  • The communication unit 11 is configured to communicate with an external information processing device. The information processing device may be, for example, a management apparatus of the money handling apparatus 100, or a money adjustment machine disposed on a checkout counter, etc. The communication unit 11 is configured to receive, from the information processing device, setting data used to set a money collection method by the collection method setting unit 6 (described later).
  • The memory unit 12 includes a nonvolatile memory (such as ROM, HDD, and SSD) for storing various programs and data to control the money handling apparatus 100, and a volatile memory (such as RAM) that is used as a program load region and a work region in executing a program.
  • The memory unit 12 may also store data relating to the money stored in the storing units 5a to 5e and the collection unit 8 (such as the denominations, the number of fit notes, and the number of unfit notes). The memory unit 12 may also store the contents of handling performed by the money handling apparatus 100. The contents of handling includes the date and time of handling, the details of handling, the destinations of money, the denominations of the handled money, the number of fit notes, the number of unfit notes, the identification number of the operator, etc.
  • The interpretation unit 13 determines the money collection method on the basis of the money collection pattern number inputted by the operator via the input unit 10. In more detail, the interpretation unit 13 determines and sends to the collection method setting unit 6 the details of the money collection method (the destination for collection, the way of collection, and the order of collection) by referring to the money collection pattern list (which will be described later) stored in the memory unit 12.
  • The collection method setting unit 6 determines a money collection method for each type of money recognized by the recognition unit 4. The "money collection method" herein means a method of collecting money stored in the storing units 5a to 5e by specifically designating the destination for collection, the way of collection, and the order of collection. The destination for collection is the collection unit 8 (storage bag 8b) or the dispensing unit 9 in this embodiment.
  • The way of collection is selected from exchanging collection, mixing collection, and selecting collection. In the exchanging collection, a plurality of collection units 8 (storage bags 8b) are sequentially fixed, one by one, to the inside of the housing 1 to collect respective types of money. For example, if the types of money are determined by the currency (local currency or foreign currencies), the operation is performed in the following manner. First, the money handling apparatus 100 allows the local currency to be collected in a first storage bag, and then an operator takes out the first storage bag from the housing 1. Thereafter, the operator fixes a second storage bag to the inside of the housing 1, and the money handling apparatus 100 allows the foreign currencies to be collected in the second storage bag. Subsequently, the operator takes out the second storage bag from the housing 1, and fixes a third storage bag to the insider of the housing 1.
  • In the mixing collection, a plurality of types of money are mixed and collected in the collection unit 8 (or the dispensing unit 9). In the selecting collection, the operator selects one of the exchanging collection and the mixing collection when collecting money.
  • The collection method setting unit 6 is capable of designating at least one of the destination for collection, the way of collection, and the order of collection by setting the money collection method. For example, the collection method setting unit 6 designates the collection unit 8 or the dispensing unit 9 as the location where the money is collected. Furthermore, the collection method setting unit 6 selects the exchanging collection, mixing collection, or selecting collection as the way of collection. Moreover, the collection method setting unit 6 sets the order of collection by designating collection numbers (indicating the priority of the collection).
  • If a plurality of types of money is collected at a predetermined destination for collection, the collection method setting unit 6 may set the order of collection for respective types of money. If the types of money are currencies, the collection method setting unit 6 may designate the order of collection for respective currencies in the predetermined destination of collection. For example, the local currency is first collected at the predetermined destination for collection (such as the dispensing unit 9), and then foreign currencies are collected at the predetermined destination for collection. In this case, the control unit 7 controls the transport unit 3 so that the local currency is first collected at the predetermined destination for collection, and then the foreign currencies are collected at the predetermined destination for collection.
  • The collection method setting unit 6 sets the money collection method on the basis of the instruction from the operator, which is received through the input unit 10. The collection method setting unit 6 may set the money collection method on the basis of the setting data received by the communication unit 11. The setting data includes data for setting at least one of the destination for collection, the way of collection, and the order of collection.
  • The control unit 7 is configured to execute a program stored in the memory unit 12 to control the whole of the money handling apparatus 100. The control unit 7 also controls the transport unit 3 so that the money stored in the storing units 5a to 5e is collected in accordance with the money collection method set by the collection method setting unit 6.
  • The collection method setting unit 6 may be realized by executing a predetermined program by the control unit 7.
  • Next, examples of images displayed on the input unit 10 used by the operator to instruct a money collection method will be described with reference to FIGs. 4 to 8. In the examples, the types of money are the local currency and the foreign currencies.
  • When the operator clicks a button for setting a collection method included in a main menu, an image shown in FIG. 4 is displayed. If the operator clicks a button B1 on this image, an image shown in FIG. 5 is displayed. The operator inputs the destination for collection for each of the local currency and the foreign currencies. In the example of FIG. 5, a radio button for setting the collection unit 8 as the destination for collection has already been clicked for each of the local currency and the foreign currencies.
  • In the collecting operation, the input unit 10 may display all or part of the image shown in FIG. 5. For example, in the collecting operation, the input unit 10 may display only the part of the foreign currencies in FIG. 5. This enables the operator to select one of the collection unit and the dispensing unit as the destination for collection for foreign currencies in each collecting operation.
  • If the operator clicks a button B2 on the image shown in FIG. 4, an image shown in FIG. 6 is displayed. The operator inputs the way of collection on this image. In the example of FIG. 6, a radio button for setting the exchanging collection as the way of collection has already been clicked. The options for the way of collection, which may be selected by the operator, are not limited to include all of the exchanging collection, the mixing collection and the selecting collection, but may generally include at least two of these.
  • If the operator clicks a button B3 on the image shown in FIG. 4, an image shown in FIG. 7 is displayed. The operator inputs the order of collection on this image. In the example of FIG. 7, the local currency is set to be first, and the foreign currencies are set to be second in the order of collection by the inputted text.
  • The above images are only examples, and the destination for collection, the way of collection and the order of collection may be inputted through a single image as shown in FIG. 8. If the destination for collection differs between the local currency and the foreign currencies, the three radio buttons for selecting the way of collection may be grayed out.
  • Four examples relating to the collection process performed by the money handling apparatus 100 will be described below. In each example, Euro is the local currency, and the other currencies are the foreign currencies.
  • <Example 1>
  • Example 1 will be described with reference to FIGs. 9 and 10. In Example 1, the destination for collection for the local currency and the destination for collection for the foreign currencies are both set at the collection unit 8, the way of collection is set at the exchanging collection, the number of collection of the local currency is set at 1, and the number of collection of the foreign currencies is set at 2.
  • Before the collection, the storing units 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, and 5e store 5 Euro banknotes (EUR5), 10 Euro banknotes (EUR10), 20 Euro banknotes (EUR20), US dollar banknotes (USD) and British pound banknotes (GBP), respectively, as shown in FIG. 9.
  • The control unit 7 first determines whether the operator clicks a collection button (step S11). The collection button is, for example, displayed on the input unit 10, which may be a touch panel. The collection button may be provided to the housing 1, or displayed on an external information processing device connected to the money handling apparatus 100 in a manner to be able to communicate with the money handling apparatus 100 via the communication unit 11.
  • If the collection button is clicked (S11: Yes), the control unit 7 collects the local currency in the storage bag 8b (pouch A) (step S12). In more detail, the control unit 7 controls the transport unit 3 so that the Euro banknotes stored in the storing unit 5a, 5b, and 5c are collected in the storage bag 8b.
  • After the collection of the Euro banknotes, which are local currency banknotes, is completed, the input unit 10 may display a message to recommend the operator to exchange the storage bag 8b (for example, "PLEASE CHANGE POUCH") (step S13). In this step, an image explaining how to change the pouch may also be displayed.
  • After the message is displayed, the control unit 7 determines whether a new storage bag is fixed (step S14). This determination may be performed by, for example, detecting whether the operator opens the door of the housing 1 to access the collection unit 8. Alternatively, the determination may be performed by detecting whether the storing unit 8b is detached and attached again by means of a sensor disposed to the fitting portion 8a. Alternatively, the input unit 10 may display a button notifying that the exchange of the storing unit is completed, and whether a new storage bag is fixed may be determined when the operator clicks this button.
  • If it is determined that a new storage bag is fixed (S14: Yes), the control unit 7 collects the foreign currencies, US dollar banknotes and British pound banknotes, in the new storage bag (pouch B) (step S15).
  • When the collection of the foreign currencies, US dollar banknotes and British pound banknotes, is completed, the input unit 10 may display a message recommending the operator to exchange the storage bag 8b (for example, "PLEASE EXCHANGE POUCH") (step S16).
  • After the message is displayed, the control unit 7 determines whether a new storage bag is fixed (step S17).
  • Thus, in Example 1, the local currency is collected in the pouch A, and the foreign currencies are collected in the pouch B. As described above, the pouches are flexible. Accordingly, even if there are only a small amount of foreign currencies (or local currency), the pouch may be folded to reduce the size. Therefore, each pouch does not always have a constant volume regardless of whether the storage is small or large, like the cassette money box. This reduces the inconvenience and the costs in transporting the money. Since the pouch may be hermetically sealed, stealing of money may be prevented. Furthermore, since opening the pouch would leave evidence, unauthorized opening may also be prevented.
  • <Example 2>
  • Example 2 will be described with reference to FIG. 11. The difference between Example 1 and Example 2 lies in that the mixing collection is set as the way of collection. The storage statuses of respective currencies before the collection are the same as those in Example 1, as shown in FIG. 11.
  • If the collection button is clicked, the control unit 7 collects the local currency in the pouch A, as in Example 1. After the collection of the local currency, Euro banknotes, is completed, the control unit 7 collects the foreign currencies, US dollar banknotes and British pound banknote, in the same pouch A.
  • <Example 3>
  • Example 3 will be described with reference to FIG. 12. The difference between Example 1 and Example 3 lies in that the selecting collection is set as the way of collection. The storage statuses of respective currencies before the collection are the same as those in Example 1.
  • In Example 3, if the collection button is clicked, an image shown in FIG. 12 is displayed on the input unit 10. The operator selects whether the exchanging collection or the mixing collection is performed. If the operator selects the exchanging collection, the step S12 and the steps thereafter of the Example 1 are performed. If the operator selects the mixing collection, the collection process described in Example 2 is performed. Demands of the customers and the security companies (on whether the mixing collection should be performed), for example, may be flexibly met if the operator selects the way of collection.
  • <Example 4>
  • Example 4 will be described with reference to FIG. 13. In Example 4, the destination for collection for the local currency is set at the collection unit 8, the destination for collection for the foreign currencies is set at the dispensing unit 9, the number of collection for the local currency is set at "1," and the number of collection for the foreign currencies is set at "2." The storage statuses of respective currencies before the collection are the same as those in Example 1, as shown in FIG. 13.
  • If the collection button is clicked, the control unit 7 collects the local currency in the collection unit 8. After the collection of the local currency, the Euro banknotes, is completed, the control unit 7 allows the foreign currencies, the US dollar banknotes and the British pound banknotes, to be collected (dispensed) at the dispensing unit 9.
  • <Setting Money Collection Method by Means of Pattern Number>
  • Setting of the money collection method by means of the interpretation unit 13 will be described below. FIG. 14 shows an example of a money collection pattern list. The money collection pattern list is stored in the memory unit 12. The money collection pattern list may be stored in a memory unit of an external information processing device connected to the money handling apparatus 100 in a manner to be able to communicate with the money handling apparatus 100, and may be received by the money handling apparatus 100 through the communication unit 11
  • As described above, the interpretation unit 13 determines contents of the money collection method on the basis of the money collection pattern number inputted by the operator. If the operator inputs a pattern number 1 via the input unit 10, for example, the interpretation unit 13 learns, by referring to the money collection pattern list, the contents of a money collection method in which the destination for collection for the local currency and the foreign currencies is the collection unit 8, the exchanging collection is selected as the way of collection, the number of collection for the local currency is set at "1, and the number of collection for the foreign currencies is set at "2." The interpretation unit 13 notifies the collection method setting unit 6 of the determined contents of the money collection method. The collection method setting unit 6 sets the money collection method for each type of money on the basis of the contents of the notification from the interpretation unit 13.
  • In the money collection pattern list shown in FIG. 14, the pattern number 1 indicates a money collection method corresponding to Example 1. The pattern number 2 indicates a money collection method that differs in the order of collection from the money collection method indicated by the pattern number 1. In this method, the local currency is collected after the foreign currencies are collected. The pattern number 3 indicates a money collection method corresponding to Example 2. The pattern number 4 indicates a money collection method that differs in the order of collection from the money collection method indicated by the pattern number 3. The pattern number 5 indicates a money collection method corresponding to Example 3. The pattern number 6 indicates a money collection method that differs in the order of collection from the money collection method indicated by the pattern number 5.
  • The pattern number 7 indicates a money collection method corresponding to Example 4. The pattern number 8 indicates a money collection method in which the destination for collection for the local currency is the dispensing unit 9, and the destination for collection for the foreign currencies is the collection unit 8.
  • The pattern number 9 indicates a money collection method in which the destination for collection for the local currency is fixed (collection unit 8), and the destination for collection for the foreign currencies can be selected (collection unit 8 or dispensing unit 9) for each collection. In this collection pattern, the collection method setting unit 6 sets a money collection method in which the local currency is collected in the collection unit 8, and the foreign currencies are collected either in the collection unit 8 (a first money collection option) or in the dispensing unit 9 (a second money collection option). The first money collection option or the second money collection option is selected by the operator to allow the collection method setting unit 6 to proceed with the collection process.
  • The collection process in the case where the type of money is "currency" (the local currency and the foreign currencies) has been described. If the type of money is selected from those other than currency such as denomination, authentication, version of paper sheet, fitness, Euro category, etc., the collection method therefor may be set in a similar manner to perform the collection process.
  • <Setting Money Collection Method for Each Storing Unit>
  • In the above descriptions, the collection method setting unit 6 sets a money collection method for each type of money. However, the collection method setting unit 6 may also set a money collection method for each of the storing units 5a to 5e. FIG. 15 shows an example of an image on the screen showing the setting statuses of the storing units 5a to 5e. The cassette numbers 01 to 05 correspond to respective storing units 5a to 5e. The destinations for collection are shown in the rightmost columns. In the destinations, "Pouch" means the collection unit 8, and "Outlet" means the dispensing unit 9.
  • If the "Edit" button located on the upper right portion of FIG. 15 is clicked, an image for setting the storing unit (storing unit 5a in this case) selected in the image shown in FIG. 15 is displayed as shown in FIG. 16. The operator sets the destination for collection of the money stored in the corresponding storing unit. If the same destination for collection is set for a plurality of storing units, an image that allows the operator to selects the way of collection may appear on the screen. In this case, the options for the way of collection are at least two of the exchanging collection, the mixing collection, and the selecting collection.
  • A plurality of types of currency may be set in the "currency" part in FIG. 16. This allows a single storing unit to store a plurality of types of currencies. For example, the storing units 5a to 5c may be assigned to Euro banknotes, the storing unit 5d may be assigned to Canadian dollar banknotes, and the storing unit 5e may be assigned to British pound banknotes, US dollar banknotes, and Japanese yen banknotes.
  • Since the destination for collection is set for each storing unit, only Canadian dollar banknotes stored in the storing unit 5d, for example, may collected in the dispensing unit 9.
  • The operator sets the types of storing unit as "Recycle," "Overflow," or "Foreign Currencies," as shown in FIG. 16. Selecting the "Overflow" radio button allows the corresponding storing unit to be used for storing the overflow of banknotes.
  • The money collection method set by the collection method setting unit 6 is only applied to the collection process for collecting the money in the housing 1, but not applied to the dispensing process for providing, to customers, the money stored in the housing 1.
  • Those skilled in the art may arrive at additional effects or various modifications of the present invention based on the above descriptions. The aspects of the present invention, however, are not limited to the aforementioned embodiments and examples. Various kinds of addition, modification, and partial reduction may be possible without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention derived from the claims and their equivalents.
