Description

AN ICE SERVING UNIT COMPRISING AN ACTUATION MECHANISM
  • The present invention relates to an ice serving unit comprising an actuation mechanism.
  • In some of the state of the art cooling devices, the ice serving units used in making ice cannot be carried outside the cooling device and ice cubes cannot be obtained from the ice serving units in desired numbers. The ice cubes that are taken out of the ice serving unit generally by way of twisting are collected in a receptacle that is also disposed in the cooling device and from there are transferred into a service container to be served. However, the ice cubes transferred from the ice serving unit to the receptacle and from the receptacle to the service container are meanwhile subjected to deformation. Furthermore, in order to serve the ice cubes in the service containers, service elements such as spoon, a pair of tongs etc. is needed.
  • In the state of the art United States Patent Document No. US3306567, an ice serving unit is explained, which allows ice cubes in desired number to be taken out of the cooling device without requiring the ice cubes to be transferred to the service container.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of an ice serving unit that provides the formation of ice cubes by being disposed in the cooling device and when desired, that enables the ice cubes to be served easily without the need of external service elements by being taken out of the cooling device.
  • The ice serving unit suitable to be disposed into the cooling device, realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention and explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises an ice cube tray having more than one cell, a cover, an opening arranged on the cover and an actuation mechanism that enables the formed ice cubes to be supplied in the desired number. The ice serving unit furthermore comprises a body having a first position, whereat adding water and ice forming operations are performed by placing the body parallel to the cooling device shelf and a second position to which the body is changed by being rotated almost ninety degrees from the first position, whereat ice cube serving operation is performed.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the ice cube tray is mounted to the body leak-proofingly. Thus, the actuation mechanism is prevented from contacting water while water is added into the ice serving unit.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the actuation mechanism is activated by means of a latch situated on the body.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the actuation mechanism comprises a catch that moves together with the latch and a motion transmitter that the catch contacts as the latch is pressed on. The transmitter in circular form converts the linear movement into circular movement.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the actuation mechanism comprises a shaft whereon a motion transmitter is disposed and pushers that are positioned so as to be aligned with the rear side of the cells. The motion transmitter, when rotated by means of the catch, also rotates the shaft whereon it is situated. The pushers, since also situated on the shaft, rotate together with the shaft. When the pushers positioned behind the cells contact the cells, the ice cubes inside the cells are provided to be separated from the ice cube tray.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, roll shaped protrusions are situated on the pushers. The pusher contacts the cell by means of the protrusion and the ice cubes are provided to be transferred out of the ice serving unit.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, while the pushers are mounted on the shaft, the protrusions are positioned so as to be at different angles. Each protrusion contacts the cells at different levels in the vertical plane at each rotation of the shaft. One protrusion is enabled to contact a cell with each movement of the actuation mechanism, thus ice cubes in the desired number are enabled to be transferred out of the ice serving unit.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the cover is transparent. Thus, whether or not the ice making process is completed can be observed.
  • By means of the present invention, ice cubes formed inside the ice serving unit can be served without the need of external service elements by taking the ice serving unit out of the cooling device, and this situation increases customer satisfaction.
  • The model embodiments relating to an ice serving unit realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention are illustrated in the attached figures, where:
  • Figure 1 – is the perspective view of an ice serving unit while the body is in the first position.
  • Figure 2 – is the perspective view of an ice serving unit while the body is in the second position.
