Description
A REFRIGERATOR
[0001] The present invention relates to a refrigerator comprising an ice dispensing machine that can be removably assembled, enabling the ice pieces to be easily separated from the ice container and carried by the user.
[0002] In the state of the art embodiments, ice containers are provided in the freezer compartments of refrigerators, having more than one open-top pockets wherein water is filled. Since the freezer compartment has a below zero temperature, the water in the ice container freezes and ice pieces are formed in the pockets. However, while freezing water sticks to the walls of the pockets in the ice container and is hard to be separated from the ice container to be served. There are too many embodiments designed for dispensing of the ice pieces in the state of the art.
[0003] The object of the present invention is to realize a refrigerator that comprises an ice dispensing machine for easily separating the ice pieces from the ice container and to be carried by the user.
[0004] The refrigerator designed to fulfill the object of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises an ice dispensing machine having a pushing mechanism wherein loading and unloading can be done when the lid is open, that separates the ice pieces from the ice container by exerting a force on the base of the ice container during closing of the lid and resumes its first position when the lid is entirely closed.
[0005] The ice dispensing machine is configured as an open-top box, surrounded by three side walls, having an almost "L" shaped body, with the long leg entirely covering thereof when the lid is closed over, and the short leg closing the gap between the two side walls and comprises a chamber disposed inside the body, wide enough for the ice container to be placed therein from above, preferably vertically. Thus, almost all of the ice pieces are entirely separated from the ice container and fall into the chamber as a result of exerting force on the base of the ice container by the pushing mechanism.
PatXML 2/9 BB1676-7.777
[0006] The pushing mechanism comprises at least one arm, fixed on the pin and extending vertical to the pin axis, making a circular motion around the pin with the movement of the lid, a transmission member secured to the said arm movably from one end and at least one force arm movably secured to the other end of the transmission member, that moves forward and backward as the arm activates the transmission member together with the movement of the lid. The force arm is perpendicular to the base of the ice container at every position of the lid or the pushing mechanism.
[0007] The pushing mechanism furthermore comprises more than one force arm disposed on a base, independently from each other and more than one guide wherein the force arms are disposed. Thus, force can be exerted on the ice container from different points. In an alternative version of this embodiment, the surface areas of the force arms contacting the ice container can be different from each other. Accordingly, different amounts of force can be exerted to different points of the base of the ice container.
[0008] By using the ice dispensing machine, the ice pieces in the ice container, included therein, can be separated from the ice container depending on the movement of the lid.
[0009] By means of the present invention, the ice pieces separated from the ice container can be stored in the ice dispensing machine, carried or can easily be transmissionred to another container.

[0021] The refrigerator (1) of the present invention comprises an ice container (A) with more than one open-top pocket wherein water is filled and an ice dispensing machine (2) that can be removably mounted providing the ice pieces to be easily separated from the ice container (A) and carried by the user (Figure 1 and Figure 9).
[0022] The ice dispensing machine (2) comprises a body (3), a chamber (4) wherein the ice container (A) is placed, a lid (5) pivotably connected to the body (3) for the ice container (A) to be loaded and unloaded from the chamber (4) and
- a pushing mechanism (8) which is at a first position without contacting the ice container (A) while the lid (5) is entirely open,
- which changes to a second position for separating the ice pieces from
PatXML 4/9 BB1676-7.777
the ice container (A) by exerting force on the base of the ice container (A) from at least one point by moving together with the lid (5) while the lid (5) closes and
- that resumes its first position when the lid (5) entirely closes over the body (3).
[0023] By using the ice dispensing machine (2) the ice pieces in the ice container (A) emplaced therein are separated from the ice container (A) depending on the movement of the lid (5). In this embodiment of the present invention, the ice pieces separated from the ice container (A) can be stored in the ice dispensing machine (2), carried or easily transferred to another container (C).
[0024] The body (3) is shaped like a box with an open top, surrounded by three side walls (6) and the lid (5) is shaped almost like an "L", with the long leg entirely covering the body (3) when closed over the body (3) and the short leg closing the gap between the two side walls (6). The lid (5) is mounted from its short side such that the gap between the two side walls (6) is closed. In order to provide this, the ice dispensing machine (2) comprises connection holes (B) disposed on the short side of the lid (5) and the two side walls (6) of the body (3), that overlap with each other when the lid (5) is mounted on the body (3) and a pin (7) that secures the two opposite side walls (6) and the lid (5) to each other by passing through the connection holes (B) and forming the rotational axis of the lid (5). The lid (5) is pivotably mounted on the body (3) such that it will rotate around the rotational axis together with the pin (7).
[0025] The chamber (4) provides the ice container (A) to remain stationary at the placed position. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the ice container (A) is placed vertically inside the chamber (4). Consequently, almost all of the ice pieces in the ice container (A) are entirely separated from the ice container (A) and fall into the chamber (4) as a result of the force exerted on the base of the ice container (A) by the pushing mechanism (8).
[0026] The pushing mechanism (8) comprises at least one arm (9), fixed on the pin (7) and extending vertical to the pin (7) axis, making a circular motion
PatXML 5/9 BB1676-7.777
around the pin (7) with the movement of the lid (5), a transmission member (10) secured to the said arm (9) movably from one end and at least one force arm (11) movably secured to the other end of the transmission member (10), that moves forward and backward as the arm (9) activates the transmission member (10) together with the movement of the lid (5). The force arm (11) is perpendicular to the base of the ice container (A) at every position of the lid (5) or the pushing mechanism (8).
[0027] The pushing mechanism (8) furthermore comprises at least one guide (12), preferably configured as a channel, with one end opening into the chamber (4), for guiding the forward backward motion of the force arm (11) therein (Figure 2).
[0028] The pushing mechanism (8) is in the first position when the lid (5) of the ice dispensing machine (2) is open. In this position, the ice container (A) is loaded into the chamber (4) by the user or the previously loaded ice container (A) can be taken out. In the first position, the arm (9) on the pin (7) stays in the upward direction on the vertical plane. The pin (7) forming the rotational axis of the lid (5) and the pivot point (S) whereto the arm (9) is pivotably secured to the transmission member (10) are situated on the same vertical plane, above the level of the pin (7). In this position, the force arm (11) pivotably secured to the transmission member (10) is at the most backward end point inside the guide (12) and in the most farthest position from the ice container (A) (Figure 3 and Figure 4).
[0029] The lid (5) rotates around the pin (7) axis while closing and the pushing mechanism (8) changes from the first position wherein the lid (5) is open, to the second position. In this position, the arm (9) secured on the pin (7) rotates in the same rotational direction as the lid (5). During this circular motion, the arm (9) pushes the transmission member (10) pivotably secured thereto and the force arm (11) pivotably connected thereto moves forward inside the guide (12). When the lid (5) comes virtually to the perpendicular position, the arm (9) on the pin (7) stands parallel to the base of the body (3) in the horizontal plane. In this position, the pin (7) forming the rotational axis of the lid (5) and the pivot point (S) whereto the arm (9) is pivotably secured to the transmission member (10), are
PatXML 6/9 BB1676-7.777
disposed almost on the same horizontal plane. In this position, the force arm (11) pivotably secured to the transmission member (10) reaches the most forward end point in the guide (12) and exerts force by bearing against the base of the ice container (A). As a result of this force exerted by the force arm (11) on the ice container (A) the ice pieces that could be stuck to the ice container (A) are separated from the ice container (A) and fall into the chamber (4) (Figure 5 and Figure 6).
[0030] When the closing process of the lid (5) over the body (3) is continued, the pushing mechanism (8) leaves the second position. The arm (9) that stays in the horizontal plane in the second position continues to rotate in the same rotational direction as the lid (5). When the lid (5) is entirely closed, the arm (9) stays in the downward direction on the vertical plane. The pin (7) forming the rotational axis of the lid (5) and the pivot point (S) where the arm (9) is pivotably secured to the transmission member (10) are disposed on the same vertical plane, below the level of the pin (7). In this position, the force arm (11) pivotably secured to the transmission member (10) is at the most backward end point inside the guide (12) and in the most farthest position from the ice container (A) (Figure 7).
[0031] In another embodiment of the present invention, the ice dispensing machine (2) comprises an ice chamber (13) wherein the ice pieces leaving the ice container (A) fall, having a passage (14) on the wall neighboring the chamber (4) for the ice pieces to pass therethrough.
[0032] In another embodiment of the present invention, the ice dispensing machine (2) comprises one or more openings (15) which corresponds to the upper part of the ice chamber (13) when the lid (5) is closed, for taking the ice pieces accumulated in the ice chamber (13) out of the machine (2). In this embodiment, the ice pieces transferred into the ice chamber (13) are separated from the ice chamber (13) due to gravity when the ice dispensing machine (2) is turned upside down by the user, (such that the lid (5) is at the bottom and the body (3) is at the top) and pass from the opening (15), for leaving the ice dispensing machine (2) and the ice pieces can be transferred to another container (C) (Figure 8).
[0033] In another embodiment of the present invention, the pushing mechanism
PatXML 7/9 BB1676-7.777
(8) comprises more than one force arm (11) disposed on a base, independently from each other and more than one guide (12) wherein each force arm (11) is disposed. Thus, force can be exerted on the ice container (A) from different points. In an alternative version of this embodiment, the surface areas of the force arms (11) contacting the ice container (A) can be different from each other. Accordingly, different amounts of force can be exerted to different points of the base of the ice container (A).
[0034] By means of the present invention, the ice pieces in the ice container (A) can be easily separated by the user from the ice container (A), the separated ice pieces can be stored, carried or can easily be transmissionred to another container (C).
[0035] It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and an expert in the technique can easily introduce different embodiments of the present invention. These should be considered within the scope of the protection postulated by the claims of the present invention.
