Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel injector, in particular a common rail injector, according to the preamble of claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of a fuel injector according to the invention.
- a fuel injector according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from EP 1 042 603 B1 known.
- the known fuel injector has, within its injector housing, a sensor which is arranged in the region of a drainage bore between a control chamber of the fuel injector and a low-pressure region.
- the sensor surrounds the drain hole on a sleeve-shaped portion of a component in which the drain hole is formed.
- In the control chamber of the fuel injector protrudes into an end portion of a nozzle needle designed as an injection member.
- the movement of the injection member is controlled in a known manner in order to release injection openings formed for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine in the injector housing.
- the pressure in the control chamber is effected via the outflow of fuel from said control chamber into the low-pressure region via the drainage hole, the drainage bore being closed by means of a closing member in the low-pressure region of the injector housing, which in turn can be actuated by an actuator, for example a solenoid actuator or a piezoactuator can.
- an actuator for example a solenoid actuator or a piezoactuator can.
- In the lowered position of the injection member prevails in the control chamber and thus also in the drain hole a relatively high (hydraulic) pressure.
- fuel from the control chamber flows into the low pressure region, whereby the hydraulic pressure in the drain hole is reduced.
- the known sensor is designed to detect the pressure or pressure fluctuations in the drain hole, caused by the opening of the closing member from the control chamber, from which the position of the injection member (nozzle needle) can be closed.
- the sensor is arranged in the high pressure region of the injector and thus must be structurally designed relatively expensive.
- the available space for such a sensor in the injector is limited, so that special design solutions that are particularly critical in view of the strength of the injector, must be selected.
- the invention has the object, a fuel injector, in particular a common rail injector, according to the preamble of claim 1 such that a simplified compared to the prior art construction is made possible, in particular within the Injector housing no or at least only insignificant structural changes caused by the sensor, with the otherwise occurring disadvantages required.
- This object is achieved in a fuel injector with the features of claim 1, characterized in that the bore, in which the pressure changes of the fuel are detected, the inlet bore through which the high-pressure chamber of the injector is supplied with fuel, and in that the sensor Outside surface of the injector is arranged. In other words, this means that in departure from the known prior art, the sensor is no longer located within the injector, but outside it.
- Such an arrangement makes it possible on the one hand to use a particularly robust or particularly high-strength construction and arrangement of the components within the injector housing and, moreover, to use a pressure sensor which is relatively simple or robust, since it is no longer subject to pressure under high pressure (for example Pressure of 2000 bar or more) fuel is applied.
- the senor has a prestressed piezoelectric element, which between the Outside surface of the injector and a the injector in the region of the piezoelectric element at least partially surrounding clamping device is arranged.
- a prestressed piezoelectric element which between the Outside surface of the injector and a the injector in the region of the piezoelectric element at least partially surrounding clamping device is arranged.
- this is at least substantially formed as a rigid component and preferably has two, semi-annular shaped, interconnectable elements.
- Such a tensioning device can be constructed particularly simply in terms of design if it surrounds the injector housing in the area of the sensor in an annular manner. As a result, in particular a relatively simple attachment of the clamping device on the injector housing is made possible, wherein the clamping device simultaneously forms a relatively rigid component.
- clamping device in which this clamping means for adjusting a force acting on the sensor biasing force. This makes it possible in particular to achieve a particularly simple adaptation of the sensor to different fuel injectors.
- the outer surface of the injector housing is formed in the region of the sensor with a flat contact surface in the form of a flattening by material removal on the injector housing for the sensor.
- the flattening reduces the distance between the sensor and the fuel-carrying bore so that, beyond the design and geometry of the contact surface, an influencing of the occurring stresses, which are detected by the sensor is enabled. This can increase the sensitivity of the sensor.
- the remaining between the fuel-carrying bore and the sensor material of the injector can thus act in the manner of an elastically flexible membrane.
- the sensor in a combustion chamber of the injector remote area is arranged.
- the inlet bore is arranged obliquely with respect to a longitudinal axis of the injector housing, it is also advantageous if the sensor is arranged in an axial region of the injector housing in which the inlet bore has at least substantially a minimum distance to the outside of the injector housing. This also generates a larger voltage difference at the sensor at a pressure change and thus a higher sensitivity of the sensor.
- a particularly high sensitivity of the sensor or the use of a relatively robust sensor is further achieved in that the sensor is arranged in relation to a longitudinal axis of the injector in an angular position of the injector in which the inlet bore at least substantially a minimum distance to the outside of Injector has.
- Such a design is particularly preferred with regard to an inlet bore formed obliquely in the injector housing with respect to a longitudinal axis of the injector housing.
- a fuel injector according to the invention in self-igniting internal combustion engines, in which the system pressure is more than 2000bar. This is due to the fact that, with a tendency to higher system pressure, there is also a tendency for a higher pressure drop in the inlet bore during the nozzle needle movement, which favors the evaluation of the sensor signal.
- an inventive fuel injector 10 is shown, as it serves as part of a so-called common-rail injection system for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, not shown.
- the common rail injection system has a system pressure of more than 2000 bar.
- the fuel injector 10 comprises an injector housing 11, which essentially consists of three components adjoining in the axial direction in the illustrated embodiment: on the side facing the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, the injector housing 11 has a nozzle body 12, to which an intermediate plate 13, and to these in turn on the side facing away from the nozzle body 12, a holding body 14 connects.
- the mentioned components of the injector 11 are in particular using a in the Fig. 1 Not shown nozzle retaining nut, as known from the prior art, axially clamped together sealingly.
- the nozzle body 12 is at least one, but preferably a plurality of injection openings 15 for injecting the high-pressure fuel into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine is formed.
- the nozzle body 12 forms in a blind hole-shaped recess 16 a high-pressure chamber 17, which is hydraulically connected via an inflow channel 18 to a seat 19 of the recess 16.
- Within the recess 16 is arranged in the direction of the double arrow 21 liftably arranged injection member in the form of a nozzle needle 25.
- the injection openings 15 are released in a raised position of the nozzle needle 25 for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine.
- the nozzle needle 25 is radially guided in the high-pressure chamber 17 within a holding body 27, wherein between the holding body 27 and a collar 28 of the nozzle needle 25 is designed as a closing spring compression spring 29 is arranged, the force is applied to the nozzle needle 25 in the direction of its closed position.
- a low pressure region 31 of the injector 11 is formed in the holding body 14.
- a coupler piston 35 is arranged in a recess 34, which forms on the nozzle needle 25 side facing a blind hole-shaped receptacle 36 for a cylindrically shaped upper end portion 37 of the nozzle needle 25.
- the receptacle 36 serves to radially guide the end portion 37, wherein a different volume is formed depending on the position of the end portion 37 within a compensation chamber 39 in the receptacle 36.
- the compensation chamber 39 is connected to the low-pressure region 31 in a pressure-relieving manner via a connecting bore 40.
- the coupler piston 35 is encompassed radially by a coupler sleeve 42, which is supported axially on the intermediate plate 13 via a biting edge 43.
- the coupler sleeve 42 is acted upon by means of a further compression spring 44, which is supported on the underside of a piezoelectric actuator 50, axially against the intermediate plate 13.
- a coupler space 45 is formed between the intermediate plate 13 facing side of the coupler piston 35, the intermediate plate 13 and the coupler sleeve 42.
- the piezoelectric actuator 50 is connected via connecting lines 51, 52 electrically connected to a voltage source, not shown.
- the pressure of the fuel prevailing in the inlet bore 57 is detected by means of a sensor 60.
- the sensor 60 is formed in the illustrated embodiment as a biased piezoelectric element 61 which rests in the region of a flattening 62 of the holding body 14 of the injector 11 to an outer surface 63.
- the flattening 62 reduces the wall thickness of the injector housing 11 or the distance between the inlet bore 57 and the sensor 60, so that a type of elastically flexible membrane is formed in the region of the flattening 62.
- the sensor 60 is located in an upper region 64 of the fuel injector 10 facing away from the injection openings 15.
- a rigid clamping device 65 which is designed in the form of a clamping ring 66.
- the clamping ring 66 consists of two shell-shaped elements 67, 68 which are connected by means of two connecting screws 69, 70. About the connecting screws 69, 70, the bias of the clamping ring 66 can be adjusted to the piezoelectric element 61.
- the arrangement of the sensor 60 and the piezoelectric element 61 is also in such a radial angular position (relative to the longitudinal axis 56) of the Injector 11, that the piezoelectric element 61 has the smallest possible distance from the inlet bore 57.
- the arrangement of the piezoelectric element 61 in such an axial region of the injector housing 11, that as a result of the oblique arrangement of the inlet bore 57 with respect to the longitudinal axis 56, the smallest possible distance between the inlet bore 57 and the piezoelectric element 61 sets.
- the control device has an evaluation algorithm which, on the basis of the voltage signal of the piezoelement 61, at least indirectly determines a pressure or a pressure profile in the inlet bore 57 and from this concludes a corresponding position of the nozzle needle 25.
- These relationships are based on the Fig. 3 recognizable.
- the stroke H of the nozzle needle 25 over the time t during the opening and the time subsequent closing of the nozzle needle 25 recognizable.
- the temporal pressure curve of the hydraulic pressure P in the inlet bore 57 can be seen.
- the hydraulic pressure P drops at the time t 1 at the beginning of the opening of the nozzle needle 25.
- the nozzle needle 25 begins to close again, whereupon a first slowly increasing pressure P prevails in the inlet bore 57, which increases greatly at the time t 3 after the end of the closing of the nozzle needle 25.

Description
The invention relates to a fuel injector, in particular a common rail injector, according to the preamble of claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of a fuel injector according to the invention.
Based on the illustrated prior art, the invention has the object, a fuel injector, in particular a common rail injector, according to the preamble of claim 1 such that a simplified compared to the prior art construction is made possible, in particular within the Injector housing no or at least only insignificant structural changes caused by the sensor, with the otherwise occurring disadvantages required. This object is achieved in a fuel injector with the features of claim 1, characterized in that the bore, in which the pressure changes of the fuel are detected, the inlet bore through which the high-pressure chamber of the injector is supplied with fuel, and in that the sensor Outside surface of the injector is arranged. In other words, this means that in departure from the known prior art, the sensor is no longer located within the injector, but outside it. Such an arrangement makes it possible on the one hand to use a particularly robust or particularly high-strength construction and arrangement of the components within the injector housing and, moreover, to use a pressure sensor which is relatively simple or robust, since it is no longer subject to pressure under high pressure (for example Pressure of 2000 bar or more) fuel is applied.
Advantageous developments of the fuel injector according to the invention are listed in the subclaims.
In a structurally preferred embodiment of the sensor, it is provided that the sensor has a prestressed piezoelectric element, which between the Outside surface of the injector and a the injector in the region of the piezoelectric element at least partially surrounding clamping device is arranged. Such an arrangement of the sensor allows the detection of a pressure fluctuation in the fuel-carrying bore in a particularly simple manner.
In order to enable a particularly high sensitivity of the sensor, it is provided on a development of the clamping device, that this is at least substantially formed as a rigid component and preferably has two, semi-annular shaped, interconnectable elements.
Such a tensioning device can be constructed particularly simply in terms of design if it surrounds the injector housing in the area of the sensor in an annular manner. As a result, in particular a relatively simple attachment of the clamping device on the injector housing is made possible, wherein the clamping device simultaneously forms a relatively rigid component.
Particularly preferred is an embodiment of the clamping device, in which this clamping means for adjusting a force acting on the sensor biasing force. This makes it possible in particular to achieve a particularly simple adaptation of the sensor to different fuel injectors.
In addition, it is particularly advantageous if the outer surface of the injector housing is formed in the region of the sensor with a flat contact surface in the form of a flattening by material removal on the injector housing for the sensor. On the one hand, a particularly good transfer of component voltages to the sensor is made possible, and on the other hand, the flattening reduces the distance between the sensor and the fuel-carrying bore so that, beyond the design and geometry of the contact surface, an influencing of the occurring stresses, which are detected by the sensor is enabled. This can increase the sensitivity of the sensor. The remaining between the fuel-carrying bore and the sensor material of the injector can thus act in the manner of an elastically flexible membrane. On the one hand to stress the sensor thermally as little as possible, and on the other hand with respect to the installation situation of the fuel injector in the internal combustion engine to install the fuel injector as possible without structural changes to the internal combustion engine, it is provided in a further embodiment of the invention that the sensor in a combustion chamber of the injector remote area is arranged.
If the inlet bore is arranged obliquely with respect to a longitudinal axis of the injector housing, it is also advantageous if the sensor is arranged in an axial region of the injector housing in which the inlet bore has at least substantially a minimum distance to the outside of the injector housing. This also generates a larger voltage difference at the sensor at a pressure change and thus a higher sensitivity of the sensor.
A particularly high sensitivity of the sensor or the use of a relatively robust sensor is further achieved in that the sensor is arranged in relation to a longitudinal axis of the injector in an angular position of the injector in which the inlet bore at least substantially a minimum distance to the outside of Injector has. Such a design is particularly preferred with regard to an inlet bore formed obliquely in the injector housing with respect to a longitudinal axis of the injector housing.
Particularly preferred is the use of a fuel injector according to the invention in self-igniting internal combustion engines, in which the system pressure is more than 2000bar. This is due to the fact that, with a tendency to higher system pressure, there is also a tendency for a higher pressure drop in the inlet bore during the nozzle needle movement, which favors the evaluation of the sensor signal.

The supply of the high-
To form the bias of the
The arrangement of the
