Description

    Field of the invention
  • The present invention relates in a first aspect to a room partitioning system and in a second aspect to the use of such a room portioning system.
  • Background of the invention
  • In various types of commercial and private situations, it is advantageous to be able to setup a system which partitions a room into two or more portioned rooms. Such situations include room partitioning of offices, of show rooms, of exhibition stalls, and of rooms in private houses etc.
  • Traditionally, partitioning of rooms has been accomplished by building in a room a structural framework of wood or metallic beams and girders. Subsequently, this structural framework will be provided with a panel in the form of sheet like material, thus a obtaining a division of partition of the room.
  • Also modular systems for providing a partitioning of a room are known. Accordingly, US 3,998,018 discloses a system for forming a building partition, Wall panels arc secured to opposite sides of vertically extending studs. A metal base member capable of rapid attachment to the edge of a wall panel which base member defines a clip supporting slot. A clip is slidably engageable in the slot at diverse horizontal positions therealong so that the panels can be attached to studs notwithstanding minor differences In widths of the panels. The clip and the stud cooperate so that the panels can be removed without destruction of the panel, if such becomes necessary during relocation of a partition.
  • EP 0 438 951 A1 discloses a room partitioning system comprising profiles 7, 8 frame profiles 13,15 and intermediate connection clips 9, where the profiles the profiles 7,8 may be attached to by using the clips 9. The profile 7 comprises means for providing direct engagement with a recess arranged on the frame profiles. The clip 9 of EP 0 438 951 does not in itself provide attachement of two different profile elements to each other.
  • The prior art systems, however, lack flexibility in that it is not suitable for building room partitionings having a high degree of variations of geometries. Furthermore, this system is not suitable for building room partitionings in the middle of a room without making use of the walls of the rooms, such as it is customary in the case of building a show room or an exhibition stall at an exhibition venue.
  • Also, in the prior art systems, the mechanical connections and fastenings between the various components are often visible, thus resulting in a rather unaesthetic appearance.
  • Accordingly, there is a need for an improved system for partitioning rooms.
  • It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved system for partitioning rooms which allows for easy and fast setup and dismantling, even in the middle of an existing room without making use of that room's walls, and which allows for designing a wide variety of geometries, and which further provides for an aesthetic appearance, in that the means connecting various elements of the system are hidden behind the visible parts of the system,
  • Brief description of the invention
  • The object of the present invention is achieved by a room partitioning system according to claim 1, and by the use according to claim 18. Preferred embodiments of the invention are defined in the dependent claims 2 - 17 and 19,
  • Accordingly, the present invention relates in a first aspect to a room partitioning system comprising:
    • one or more partitioning profiles;

In this way, the first wing section and said second wing section constitute the first set of protrusions 18. Furthermore, the U-shaped middle section 102 comprises a first locking flap 122 extending from the first side of the arch section; wherein said U-shaped middle section comprises a second locking flap 124 extending from the second side of the arch section. In this way, the first and second locking flaps constitute the second set of protrusions 20.
  • Fig. 3b illustrates the same embodiment of the connecting clip 500 of a room partitioning system according to the invention seen in a plan view,
  • Fig. 4 illustrates the principle of the present invention and shows how a connecting clip 500 is able to connect and lock a partitioning profile 300 of a room partitioning system to a frame profile 400 of a room partitioning system according to the invention. Fig 4 shows partitioning profile 300 of a room partitioning system having a front surface 2 and a rear surface 4. Both the front surface and the rear surface comprise a longitudinally extending longitudinally extending recess 6 for accommodating a connecting clip 500. The connecting clip 500 is locked to the partitioning profile 300 by accommodating its first set of protrusions 18, consisting of first and second wings 114,116 into the recess 6, which recess at its bottom part 76 is having an extension in a transverse direction Y which is larger than the extension, In a transverse direction Y, of the opening part 74.
  • Below the partitioning profile 300 a frame profile 400 is locked to the connecting clip. The frame profile 400 comprises a front surface 8 and a rear surface 10. The rear surface comprises a first longitudinally extending L-shaped protrusion 82 and a first longitudinally extending L-shaped protrusion 84. The space between these protrusions 82,86 defines a longitudinally extending recess 14. In this recess 14, the connecting clip 500 is locked due to the geometry of the recess 14 in combination with the second set of protrusions 20, consisting of first and second locking flap 122,124 of the connecting clip 500. Accordingly the connecting clip 500 allows for connecting and locking together a partitioning profile 300 to a frame profile 400.
  • Fig. 4 illustrates that on the front side of the frame profile 400, a room partitioning sheet material 600 is partly accommodated into the longitudinally extending cavity 100 of the front surface of the frame profile.
  • Fig 5 shows a cross-sectional view of one embodiment of a supporting column profile 24 of a room partitioning system 200 according to the invention. The supporting column profile 24 comprises four longitudinally extending surfaces 26. Three of these four longitudinally extending surfaces 26 each comprises a longitudinally extending protrusion 28 and two longitudinally extending recesses 126,126' which are adapted to be able to accommodate a rear surface of the partitioning profile 300 as shown in fig. 5. The partitioning profile 300 on its front surface is accommodating and locking (connecting clip 500 not shown in fig. 5) three frame profiles 400, which in turn each is accommodating a room partitioning sheet material 600.
  • Typically, the supporting column profile 24 will be part of the structural framework of a room partitioning system according to the present invention and hence provides for attaching the room partitioning sheet material 600 to the structural framework in the form of one or more supporting column profiles 24.
  • Fig. 6 shows in a perspective view one embodiment of a connecting rod 30 of a room partitioning system 200 according to the invention. The connecting rods 30 allow for extending a frame profile 400 by connecting in a longitudinal direction, two or more frame profiles 400. Fig 6 shows that one end 32 of a conneeting rod 30 having an angle of 90° has been longitudinally inserted into the longitudinally extending cavity 86 of the rear surface of a frame profile 400 and that its other end 34 is about to be inserted into the longitudinally extending cavity 86 of the rear surface of another frame profile 400. Alternative to being angled, the connecting rod 30 may also be straight-lined.
  • Fig. 7 shows a cross-sectional view of one embodiment of a ground profile 50 of a room partitioning system 200 according to the invention. Fig. 7 shows that the ground profile 50 comprises a lower profile 52 and an upper profile 54, The upper profile accommodates a part of the lower profile in its interior cavity 58. The lower profile and the upper profile are having an extension in a longitudinal direction X, and an extension in a transverse direction Y, and in a direction Z perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X, and to the transverse direction Y.
  • The lower profile 52 comprises fastening means 56 for fastening said lower profile to the ground by bolting or screwing screws or bolts through the fastening means 56 and through the bottom part of the lower profile 52.
  • The upper profile 54 comprises a top surface 60. The top surface 60 comprising a longitudinally extending protrusion 62 adapted to be accommodated in the longitudinally extending recess 22 on the rear surface of a partitioning profile.
  • The longitudinally extending protrusion 62 of said top surface 60 comprises a first longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion 82 and a second longitudinally oriented L-shaped protrusion 84, both extending partly in a direction Z, perpendicular to the longitudinal direction X and to the transverse direction Y, thereby defining a longitudinally oriented cavity 86 between said first and second protrusion. The longitudinally oriented cavity thereby is having a longitudinal opening 88 in a middle part of said profile; said cavity having an opening part 90 and a bottom part 92. Said cavity 86 is having an extension, in a transverse direction, at its bottom part 92 which is larger than the extension, in a transverse direction, of the cavity at its opening part 90. This geometry accordingly allows locking the upper profile 54 to a partitioning profile 300 via one or more connecting clips in a way analogous to the principle set out in a previous section (connecting clip not shown in fig. 7).
  • By providing the fastening means 56 with vertically arranged threaded holes, it is possible to attach the upper profile 54 to the lower profile 56, This is accomplished by screwing in a screw in a vertically arranged hole in the material of bottom part of the longitudinally oriented cavity 86. In case more such screws are provided, this feature also allows adjusting the level in a longitudinal direction X of the upper profile 54 in relation to the lower profile 56.
  • Fig. 7 additionally shows that a frame profile 400 accommodating a room partitioning sheet material 600 is arranged on top of the upper profile 54 of the ground profile 50 of a room partitioning system 200.
  • Fig. 8 illustrates in an exploded view various components of a room partitioning system 200 according to the invention and how these components are interconnected. Fig 8 shows a ground profile 50 of a room partitioning system 200 according to the invention. The ground profile 50 comprises a lower profile 52 and an upper profile 54. The lower profile may be fastened to the ground by fastening means 56. The fastening means comprises a profile 56 being fastened by fastening screws as described above. On top of the ground profile 50 is arranged a partitioning profile 300 which carries a frame profile 400. The frame profile in turns carries a room partitioning sheet material 600. The same order of connected profiles and fittings applies in the horizontal direction from the room partitioning sheet material 600 outwards, and in a vertical direction from the room partitioning sheet material 600 upwards.
  • The horizontally arranged frame profiles 400 are connected to the vertically arranged frame profile 400 via angled connecting rods 30. The horizontally arranged partitioning profiles 300 are connected to the vertically arranged partitioning profile 300 via treaded rods 38 and screws 40. In the lower left part of fig. 8, the horizontally arranged partitioning profile 300 is connected to the vertically arranged partitioning profile 300 by screws being screwed Into the longitudinally extending holes in the horizontally arranged partitioning profile 300. In the lower right part of fig. 8, the horizontally arranged partitioning profile 300 is connected to the other horizontally arranged partitioning profile 300 (at the far right side) by threaded rods being inserted into both the longitudinally extending holes in these horizontally arranged partitioning profiles 300. By mechanically deforming the partitioning profile 300 at a position corresponding to the position of the threaded rods, e.g. by applying a force by hammering onto the surface of the partitioning profiles 300, said partitioning profiles 300 may be locked and fixed to each other.
  • As fig. 8 illustrates, the various profiles are connected and locked to each other by means of connecting clips 500.
  • Above only a few embodiments of the invention have been described, however, it can easily be envisaged that several other embodiments are possible within the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
