Description
- The present invention relates to a marine growth removal system for cleaning an erected open ended pile prior to coupling the pile, by using grout, to a construction to be founded, like a windmill.
- In case of installing a wind turbine, a delay of more than a few days between mono pile installation and grouting operations is not uncommon. The grouting operation has for its purpose to firmly couple the mono pile and the windmill possibly with a so called transition piece. This delay between mono pile installation and grouting operations can be costly as marine growth and other surface debris can often quickly appear on the mono pile surface. The surface cleanliness of the pile is critical for effective grouting and therefore all loose debris and marine growth needs to be removed quickly and effectively to prevent a poor coupling or any costly grout removal operation.

In addition, the marinegrowth removal system 1 comprises asuction tube 19 provided with theinner frame member 3 for cleaning the interior of thepile 2. It is conceivable to provide a suction tube with theouter frame member 5 as well. - It is conceivable to clean a
pile 2 while using a number of marinegrowth removal systems 1 simultaneously a shown infig. 6 . - It will also be obvious after the above description and drawings are included to illustrate some embodiments of the invention, and not to limit the scope of protection, which is defined by the appended claims.
Claims (16)
- Marine growth removal system (1) for cleaning an erected open ended pile (2), the system comprising;- an elongate inner frame member (3) for extending in a pile interior (4),- an elongate outer frame member (5) for extending along a pile exterior, wherein the outer frame member is coupled with the inner frame member and wherein the inner frame member and outer frame member are arranged with respect to each other such that a pile wall section accommodation space (6) extends between the inner frame member and the outer frame member,- a guiding device comprising a guiding means (10) arranged with respect to the pile wall section accommodation space for contacting an upper rim of the pile for providing support and guidance to the marine growth removal system,- a cleaning device (14) provided with the inner frame member and/or the outer frame member for removing the marine growth from the interior surface and/or the exterior surface of the pile.
- Marine growth removal system according to the preceding claim, comprising a main frame (7) coupled with the inner frame member and outer frame member, wherein the main frame extends across the inner frame member, the outer frame member and the pile wall section accommodation space there between.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the outer frame member and the inner frame member are moveably coupled with respect to each other and wherein the marine growth removal system comprises;- a clamping system (8) coupled with the inner frame member and outer frame member for moving the inner frame member and outer frame member with respect to each other between a pile wall section clamping position wherein a pile wall section (9) which is placed in the pile wall section accommodation space is coupled with the marine growth removal system in a clamping manner, and a pile wall section releasing position wherein the marine growth removal system can be placed on and removed from a pile wall section.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, comprising a driving system which in use is in contact with the pile wall section for moving the marine growth removal system around the circumference of the pile.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the pile wall section accommodation space in use extends over an arc of a circle between from about 5° to about 90°, specifically from about 10° to about 45°.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the inner frame member and/or outer frame member in use extend along the pile wall over between 3 and 25 meter.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the cleaning device comprises a high pressure jetting system.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the cleaning device comprises a scraping system.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the cleaning device comprises a brush system.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the cleaning device comprises a rotatable brush system.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the cleaning device, preferably a rotatable brush system thereof, in use, moves the marine growth removal system around the circumference of the pile.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the guiding device comprises a number of guiding means (10, 11, 12) for guiding the marine growth removal system along the circumference of the pile when driven by the driving system around the circumference of the pile.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, wherein the guiding means comprise rolling members and/or sliding members.
- Marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim, comprising a detecting device for providing a pile cleanliness feedback signal.
- Assembly of an erected pile and a marine growth removal system according to a preceding claim suspended from the upper rim of the pile.
- Method for cleaning a pile (2) prior to coupling the pile, by using grout, to a construction to be founded, like a windmill, the method comprising the steps;- providing an elongate inner frame member (3) for extending in a pile interior (4),- providing an elongate outer frame member (5) for extending along a pile exterior,- providing a cleaning device (14) with the inner frame and/or the outer frame for removing the marine growth from the interior surface and/or the exterior surface of the pile,- clamping a pile wall section between the inner frame member and outer frame member,- moving the marine growth removal system around the circumference of the pile while cleaning the interior surface and/or the exterior surface of the pile.
