Description
- The present patent concerns the sector of dry construction of false ceilings and walls with prefabricated panels applied to a light supporting structure and in particular it concerns a new type of guide for the construction of arched false ceilings and non-linear openings on light supporting structures to which prefabricated panels are applied and fixed.
- Currently, metal support structures for panels in plasterboard or other similar materials are widely used to make partition walls, decorative walls or false ceilings. These structures are easily and rapidly constructed and enable the construction of arched or specially shaped ceilings and walls which are otherwise expensive and difficult to achieve with bricks and concrete.
- Straight walls, straight partitions and plane false ceilings can be achieved with plasterboard panels applied to a frame of straight elements made of wood or metal guides.
- Deformable guides consisting of sheet metal die-cut and folded to form a continuous set of modular box-shaped elements for walls and ceilings which are not straight are known.
- Essentially, a strip of sheet metal is die-cut and bent into a U so as to form a series of U-shaped segments joined together by three connecting elements, two on the sides and one on the bottom. Subsequently the connecting elements are folded inside the U-shape to constitute a series of boxed elements devoid of one of the major surfaces and joined together by portions of the smaller surfaces.
- During construction each deformable guide is used as is, or is adapted to the curved shape to be constructed by stretching or bending the connecting elements.
- Essentially the guides are adapted to the layout of the wall to be constructed, are fixed to vertical uprights fixed to the ceiling and to the floor, or are adapted to the shape of the ceiling and are fixed from wall to wall to construct the false ceiling.
- The structure thus consisting of uprights and deformed guides is covered by the various curved panels, in the case of walls with modest curvature, or panels of modest width juxtaposed and connected, in the case of walls with greater curvature.
- These deformable guides are suitable for the construction of non-linear walls, typically arched, but are not suitable for the construction of arched ceilings or non-linear openings in partition walls or decorative walls.
- To obtain openings in partition walls or decorative walls that have a non-linear edge, for example the upper arched part or a side edge consisting of one or more arches, wooden elements of suitable thickness joined together and shaped to reproduce the desired curved shape of the opening and on which the filling panels of the partition walls or decorative walls are applied and then shaped are currently used.
- This is particularly expensive, requires time and labour for making the template, and contributes considerable weight to the partition or decorative wall.
- To construct arched ceilings wooden shaped structures are currently prepared and fastened to the walls and weight-bearing ceiling-floor, to which panels and plasterboard elements constituting the visible part of the desired arched ceiling are applied and fixed.
- This is particularly expensive, requires time and labour for making the template, and contributes considerable weight to the arched ceiling structure.
- In some cases, custom-shaped metal profiles are used, fixed to the floor-ceiling and the walls. The plasterboard panels or elements are then fixed to said metal profiles to obtain the desired arched ceiling.
- These shaped metal profiles are difficult and expensive to manufacture, which makes the construction of arched false ceilings expensive.
-
WO 98/32931 A1 claim 1. - To overcome all the drawbacks mentioned above a new type of deformable guide has been designed and created.
- The new guide is comprised of a strip of sheet metal die-cut and bent so as to create a U-shaped section with the ends of the side walls folded in towards the opposite side wall.
- The metal strip has a central band, corresponding to the lower wall of the U-section.
- On each side of this central band there are further three bands, including, proceeding towards the edge of the metal strip:
- a first side band, immediately adjacent to the central band, corresponding to a side wall of the U-shaped section,
- a second side band, adjacent to the first side band,
- a third side band, external and adjacent to the edge of the metal strip.
- The second and third side bands are folded one close to the next, to constitute a thicker wall, and are folded together to constitute the end of a side wall of the U-section facing towards the opposite side wall.
- The metal strip has areas without interruption alternating with areas with notches and die-cuts.
- Each zone with notches and die-cuts has notches on the first side bands and the central band.
- In particular:
- on each first side band there is a triangular notch with the apex opposite the central band;
- in the central band there are three notches, parallel to each other and aligned with the vertices of the triangular shape of the two lateral notches.
- The first, second and third side bands of the strip are then folded orthogonally to the central band of the strip itself to form a guide with a U-shaped section having the end of each side wall of the U-shaped section facing the opposite side wall.
- Consequently, each triangular notch is on a side wall of the U-shaped section, with the side facing the central band lying on the folding line, while the series of notches parallel to each other are located in the central part of the bottom of the U-shaped section of the new deformable guide.
- The new deformable guide formed in this manner has a linear shape and U-shaped section with notches and die-cuts along its length alternating with sections with no notches or die-cuts.
- When it is necessary to construct arched ceilings or non-linear openings in partition or decorative walls, for example the upper part has to be arched or a side edge has to be composed of one or more arches, the new guide is bent and adapted to the curved shape to be obtained.
- Essentially the areas with notches of the lower wall of the U-shaped section are folded towards the inside of the U-shape obtaining straight sections of the new profile, corresponding to areas without notches or die-cuts, leaning toward each other to form a polygonal shape equal to the curvature of the opening to be obtained.
- In the case of openings in partition or decorative walls, each of the two side walls of the U-shaped section comes to be on one side of the wall, permitting the application and fixing of the panels in plasterboard or a similar material, while the sections without notches or die-cuts of the central part of the bottom of said U-shaped section of the new guide constitute the intrados of the arched opening to be constructed in the partition or decorative wall.
- In the case of arched false ceilings, the bottom wall of the U-shaped section constitutes the intrados of the structure to which the plasterboard panels or elements are applied and fixed, while the side walls of said U-shaped section of the new guide are joined and fixed with further rigid fastening elements to existing structures such as walls and floors-ceilings.
- The new deformable guide can also be used as is for linear structures.
- In any case, when fasteners such as screws or bolts are applied, there is always a part of the wall of the new deformable guide suited to ensure an adequate and suitable hold.
- The new deformable guide therefore greatly simplifies operations to create non-linear openings.
- The attached drawings present a practical embodiment of the invention by way of a non-limiting example.
-
Figure 1 shows the layout of the new deformable guide, that is, the die-cut strip of sheet metal before folding, whileFigure 2 shows an axonometric view of the new guide obtained by folding the die-cut strip of sheet metal. The metal strip has zones (X) without interruption alternating with zones (Y) with notches and die-cuts (D, E). - The folding lines (S1, S2, S3) for the formation of the U-shaped guide are shown with a dashed line, while the folding lines (R) to adapt the new guide to the shape to be constructed are indicated with dash-dot-dot lines.
- The strip of sheet metal comprises a central band (A) and three side bands (B1, B2, B3) on each side of the central band (A).
- On each first side band (B1), adjacent to the central band (A), relative to the zone (Y) with notches, there is a triangular notch (E) with the vertex opposite the central band (A) and with the side facing the central band (A) arranged along the folding line (S1) between the central band (A) and the first side band (B1).
- On the central band (A), relative to the zone (Y) with notches, there are six notches (D), arranged in three parallel rows each having two notches (D) aligned so as to divide the central band (A), relative to the area with notches (Y), in foldable portions (z).
- The strip is then folded along the folding lines (S1, S2, S3), forming a U-shaped guide, as shown in
Figure 2 . - In particular:
- the central band (A) constitutes the lower wall of the U-shaped section;
- each first side band (B1) is folded (S1) orthogonally to the central band (A) so as to constitute a side wall of said U-shaped section;
- each third side band (B3) is folded (S3) parallel to and against the second band (B2);
- each pair of second (B2) and third (B3) side bands are folded (S2) together orthogonally to the first adjacent side band (B1) towards the inside of the guide and towards the opposite side wall or first side band (B1).
- The zones (Y) with notches (D) are folded (R) towards the inside of the U-shape so that each portion (z) between two parallel notches (D) of the central band is directed toward the inside of the U-shaped section of the new guide.
- These folds (R), together with the triangular notches (E) of the first side bands (B1), enable the new guide to be adapted to curved openings in different shapes or to arched false ceilings, as shown in the examples of
Figures 3 and 4 . - Therefore, with reference to the preceding description and the attached drawings, the following claims are made.
