A method of applying wrapping labels onto packaging, wherein a label dispensed from a label dispenser, in particular a label printer, is first transported in the vertical direction into an intermediate position and is transported from the intermediate position by a transverse conveyor belt (19) transversely to the vertical into an application position in which the label can be received by a packaging passing through, wherein the label (13) is applied to the packaging (15) such that it surrounds the packaging (15) from three sides.
