Definitions
- the invention relates to a security element for security papers, documents of value and other data carriers, with a color layer with magnetically oriented magnetic pigments forming a first motif in the form of patterns, characters or a coding, which shows a dynamic movement effect when tilting the security element.
- the invention further relates to a method for producing such a security element as well as a data carrier or a security paper with such a security element.
- Data carriers such as valuables or identity documents, but also other valuables, such as branded goods, are often provided with security elements for the purpose of security, which permit verification of the authenticity of the data carrier and at the same time serve as protection against unauthorized reproduction.
- the security elements can be embodied, for example, in the form of a security thread embedded in a banknote, a covering film for a banknote with a hole, an applied security strip, a self-supporting transfer element or else in the form of a feature area applied directly to a value document.
- EP 1 880 866 discloses a security element having the features of the preamble of claim 1.
- the present invention seeks to provide a security element of the type mentioned, which has a high security against counterfeiting with good recognizability and easy verifiability.
- This object is solved by the security element having the features of the independent product claim.
- a method for producing such a security element and a data carrier and a security paper with such a security element are specified in the independent claims. Further developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
- the first dynamic motif of the magnetically aligned magnetic pigments is combined with a second motif in the form of an embossed structure having raised embossing elements with flanks of different orientation so that the magnetic pigments arranged on flanks of different orientation reflect different incident light, and the second motif shows a tilting effect when tilting the security element.
- a tactile security feature is provided by the second motif in the form of an embossed structure with raised embossing elements, which also increases the security against counterfeiting of the security element, since the second motif in the form of an embossed structure, as well as the first motive showing a dynamic motion effect even with the latest copiers not can be reproduced.
- the first motif in the form of a pattern, character, or encoding, is an optically variable security feature that exhibits a dynamic motion effect.
- the second motif according to the invention in the form of an embossed structure is likewise an optically variable security feature which exhibits a tilting effect when the security element is tilted.
- tilting effect is understood to mean an effect in which a viewer perceives a different image impression of the subject under consideration from different viewing angles.
- a viewer of the second motif of the security element according to the invention will perceive a different color or brightness impression of the second motif depending on the viewing angle.
- the tilting effect of the second motif of the security element according to the invention is due to the fact that the raised embossing elements have flanks with different orientation, so that the magnetic pigments arranged on flanks of different orientation reflect light incident differently.
- the tilting effect according to the invention can be achieved with all magnetic pigments which at least partially reflect incident light, ie electromagnetic radiation in the visible wavelength range from about 380 nm to 780 nm, which is the case for the majority of the available magnetic pigments.
- the magnetic pigments are non-spherical, in particular platelet-shaped. This has the advantage that the magnetic pigments are relatively well magnetically aligned
- the magnetic pigments on the flanks of the embossing elements are usually arranged so that a particularly good tilting effect is shown. This will be explained in more detail below with reference to the figures.
- the magnetic pigments are colored and / or optically variable. It should be noted that a distinction between colored and optically variable magnetic pigments is not always clear, as e.g. certain colored, especially gold-colored magnetic pigments are optically variable to a certain degree. Without being bound to an explanation, these magnetic pigments are presumably to some extent an optically variable appearance for a viewer, since it is generally not possible in terms of production technology to use magnetic pigments having the same direction in all directions, ie. to produce isotropic color.
- pigments having an interference layer structure are particularly preferred.
- Magnetic pigments with an interference layer structure can be used with a particularly great advantage, showing several layers and a pronounced color-shift effect.
- These pigments which are also referred to as (multilayer) thin-film elements, have at least one magnetic layer and, moreover, contain a multilayer structure for producing a color-shift effect.
- Such pigments are, for example, sold by SICPA SA under the brand name OVMI ®.
- the optically variable magnetic pigments with interference layer structure can, as in the EP 1366 380 A2 described, are produced.
- the disclosure of the EP 1366 380 A2 for the preparation and the properties of such pigments are included in the present description.
- the magnetic pigments may also be wet-chemically produced multilayer pigments.
- the magnetic pigments can also be formed on the basis of high-purity iron powder and in particular be prepared from reducing-treated carbonyl iron powder.
- Advantageous platelet-shaped iron pigments can in particular the document EP 1 251 152 B1 are taken from the disclosure of the preparation and properties of such pigments in the present description.
- the magnetic pigments are present as a mixture of different, preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments.
- the ratio of the largest to the smallest diameter of the platelet-shaped magnetic pigments is advantageously more than 5: 1, preferably more than 10: 1. This ratio is particularly preferably between 40: 1 and 400: 1.
- the largest diameter of the platelet-shaped magnetic pigments is advantageously more than 2 ⁇ m, preferably more than 5 ⁇ m, more preferably more than 10 ⁇ m and very particularly preferably more than 15 ⁇ m.
- Platelet-shaped magnetic pigments, in particular in the preferred size range and in the preferred diameter-to-thickness range can be oriented as desired by an external magnetic field relative to the layer plane of the color layer. With high diameter-to-thickness ratios, high contrasts between translucent and opaque layer areas can be set.
- the oriented platelet-shaped magnetic pigments form an effective three-dimensional appearance to the human eye, which is referred to in this description as a "3D effect” or "3D impression".
- the three-dimensional appearance is associated with a dynamic movement effect, in which the position of the generated motif seems to move when tilting the security element or when changing the viewing or lighting direction.
- the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments are aligned by a magnet, in particular by a ball magnet or by a plurality of spaced ball magnets in the form of a centrosymmetric motif.
- the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments in the interior of the centrosymmetric motif are aligned substantially perpendicular to the surface of the ink layer, and are aligned outside the centrosymmetric motif with a sharp transition substantially parallel to the surface of the ink layer.
- the alignment is done in a preferred variant by exactly one ball magnet in the form of the first motif.
- the magnetic pigments are aligned by a plurality of spaced-apart spherical magnets in the form of the first motif.
- the plurality of ball magnets can be in direct contact with each other during the alignment step or separated from each other by spacers.
- the ball magnets can be arranged with such a large distance that their magnetic fields do not influence each other practically.
- simultaneously ball magnets of different diameters can be used.
- Another way to specifically control the orientation of the magnetic pigments is to adjust the distance of the ball magnet or the ball magnets to the color layer of the security element suitable. The smaller this distance, the greater the selectivity from oriented to non-oriented areas. The most pronounced 3D effect, on the other hand, is achieved at slightly greater distances.
- aligning a plurality of spherical magnets can be arranged at different distances to the ink layer and thus create motifs with different degrees of expression of the 3D effect and different selectivity.
- the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments are aligned in the form of a motif having two regions in which the magnetic pigments are aligned substantially parallel to two planes pointing in different directions, preferably with a sharp transition between the regions.
- the orientation of the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments is in the form of a motif which contains a region in which the magnetic pigments are aligned in an arc relative to the surface of the ink layer.
- Such alignments / motifs can in particular the WO 2004/007095 A2 are taken from the disclosure of the production and properties of such orientations / motives in the present description.
- the second motif is arranged at least partially in the region of the first motif.
- This overlapping arrangement of the first and second motif results in a security element according to the invention with an exceptionally high protection against counterfeiting, since the optically variable effects of the first and second motif, ie the dynamic one Movement effect or the tipping effect, synergistically interact.
- the optically variable effects of the first and second motif alone are not reproducible by, for example, color copiers
- the overlapping arrangement of the first and second motifs makes it impossible to imitate with, for example, color copiers.
- the overlapping areas of the first and second motifs result in such a complex superimposition of the dynamic effect of the first subject and the tilting effect of the second motif that any attempted counterfeiting is doomed to failure.
- Apart from the increased security against imitation such a design with at least partially overlapping first and second motif is also relatively appealing to the viewer, which increases the recognition value of a security element according to the invention and thus ultimately also the security against counterfeiting.
- the second motif is arranged substantially completely within the region of the first motif.
- first and second motif to increase the security against counterfeiting can also be arranged in register to each other.
- Such an arrangement of the first and second motif with perfect registration "sews" the motifs of the color layer together, as it were.
- the embossed structure of the second motif is also left in the region of the surrounding substrate, e.g. a document of value or security paper on which the security element according to the invention is arranged, the security element is also "sewn" to the surrounding substrate.
- the first and second motif are in a sense context or form a coherent one Total motif.
- “context of meaning” is understood to mean a connection that the viewer makes according to the meaning.
- the first motif could be formed centrosymmetrically in the form of a sun, while the second motif is in the form of sun rays extending away from the sun.
- Another example of two meaningful motifs would be a sphere for a motif and a second motif in the form of a vessel adapted to the shape of the sphere.
- the ball could be formed by a subject with dynamic motion effect and the vessel by a subject with tilting effect, which of course also the reverse assignment of dynamic motion effect and tilt effect is possible to the subjects. That is, the vessel could be designed as a first subject with dynamic motion effect and the ball as a second subject with tilting effect.
- the first and second motif form a coherent overall motif.
- an article or a product e.g. a house, a table, a car or a music sheet to form by the arrangement of the first and second motif according to the invention.
- the first and second motif may advantageously overlap.
- the raised embossing elements of the embossing structure are formed linear.
- line will be understood as a combination of two points, according to the definition given in Paperback of Mathematics, Bronstein, Semendjajew, 25th edition.
- in addition to a straight connection also includes a non-linear, ie curved, curved or spiral connection of two points in two- or three-dimensional space with.
- linear embossing elements are understood to mean all three-dimensional elements whose projections form a line in the plane of the optically variable element in accordance with the above definition.
- line-shaped stamping elements which are straight are preferred. Conceivable but also curved, spiral and differently shaped embossing elements.
- the line-shaped embossing elements advantageously have a width of from 10 ⁇ m to 500 ⁇ m, preferably from 20 ⁇ m to 180 ⁇ m and very particularly preferably from 30 ⁇ m to 150 ⁇ m.
- the width of the line-shaped embossing elements is still to be noted that this need not necessarily be constant or substantially constant over the length of a stamping element. Rather, it may even be preferable to modulate the width of the embossing elements in a predetermined manner.
- Such an embossing element has along its length then, for example, a continuously changed width, which further increases the recognition value and thus the security against forgery of the security element according to the invention.
- the term "half-sided or double-sided modulated embossing element" is used.
- a one- or two-sided modulation can take place both continuously and in the form of one or more stages along the embossing element.
- the line-shaped embossing elements advantageously have at their base a distance of from 0 ⁇ m to 300 ⁇ m, preferably from 0 ⁇ m to 50 ⁇ m.
- the line-shaped embossing elements preferably have a length of more than 150 ⁇ m, more preferably of more than 1000 ⁇ m.
- the height of the embossing elements is about 10 microns to 300 microns, preferably about 20 microns to 200 microns and most preferably about 30 microns to 120 microns.
- the line density is approximately 10 lines / cm to 1000 lines / cm, preferably 20 lines / cm to 300 lines / cm, and very particularly preferably 40 lines / cm to 150 lines / cm.
- the embossing structure forming the second motif may advantageously have a plurality of regions, in each of which a multiplicity of substantially linearly arranged line-shaped embossing elements is arranged. It has been shown that the provision of several areas, each with a plurality of substantially parallel arranged embossing elements for generating responsive tilting effects is particularly suitable. The number of areas is advantageously more than eight.
- the second dynamic movement effect perceivable by the viewer for these special embodiments is thus a special case of the general tilting effect claimed according to the invention for the second motif.
- Security elements that simultaneously display a second dynamic motion effect of the second subject and the dynamic motion effect of the first subject are extremely tamper-proof and, moreover, very appealing to a viewer.
- Particularly appealing and preferred dynamic motion effects of the second motif can be generated in particular by the angle between the directions of two adjacent regions having substantially parallel line-shaped embossing elements being between 1 ° and 15 °, particularly preferably between 3 ° and 10 °. The viewer perceives in such embodiments when tilting the security element a relatively finely graded movement through the second motif true.
- first dynamic movement effect of the first motif defines a first movement direction and the second dynamic movement effect of the second motif defines a second movement direction and the angle between first and second movement directions 45 ° to 90 °, preferably 70 ° to 90 ° and most preferably substantially 90 °.
- the latter embodiment with an angle of substantially 90 ° between the first and second directions of movement can be achieved particularly well with a first dynamic movement effect, as described for example in the document WO 2004/007095 A2 is described.
- the viewer of such an embodiment can then move perceive in the first direction of movement and a movement arranged substantially perpendicular thereto in the direction of the second direction of movement, which allows a variety of design variants with high recognition value and thus large protection against counterfeiting.
- the ink layer can be a printing layer produced by a printing method known per se, with a color layer which is formed as a screen printing layer currently being preferred.
- the color layer with the magnetic pigments is expediently formed on the basis of a UV-curing color system, pure UV systems, UV / water-based systems or even UV / solvent-based systems being considered.
- the color layer may also comprise dyes, luminescent substances or further pigments, in particular colored pigments, luminescent or optically variable pigments, for example pigments prepared on the basis of liquid-crystalline polymers, or iridescent pearlescent pigments, as described, for example, by Merck KGaA under the name "Iriodin ®" are marketed, contain.
- the color layer may also contain, for example, further magnetic, in particular soft magnetic pigments. All additives can have machine readable properties.
- the color layer is arranged on a background layer which is colored or optically variable, or which has magnetic properties.
- the background layer may be a colored or optically variable or magnetically coded identification exhibit.
- Such a marking can also interact visually with the first and / or second motif and, for example, be in a sense context with the first and / or second motif or form a coherent motif.
- the security element according to the invention can be further provided with one or more protective layers for use as a security element for security papers, value documents and other data carriers, e.g. with a transparent protective varnish.
- a color layer based on a UV-curing color system is used and the aligned magnetic pigments are fixed by UV curing of the color layer.
- the ink layer is preferably printed by screen printing, even if fundamentally other printing processes, such as flexographic printing, offset printing or intaglio printing, come into question.
- a non-ink-bearing gravure printing plate in particular a non-ink-bearing intaglio printing plate
- the embossed structure is produced in the color layer as so-called "blind embossing".
- an ink-bearing intaglio printing plate as the embossing tool, in particular an ink-bearing intaglio printing plate, whereby the security element is produced with embossing structure according to the invention and at the same time a further application of ink in the area of the embossed structure.
- translucent, i. translucent colors which produce a mixed color with the color of the magnetic pigment containing color layer.
- the invention also encompasses a data carrier or a security paper with a security element of the type described, wherein the security element can be arranged both in an opaque region of the data carrier and at least partially in or above a transparent window region or a continuous opening of the data carrier.
- the data carrier can be a value document, such as a banknote, in particular a paper banknote, a polymer banknote or a foil-paper composite banknote, or an identity card, such as a credit card, a bankcard, a cashcard, an authorization card, a banknote Identity card or passport personalization page act.
- the security element according to the invention can also be used for securing products of any kind, that is for so-called product security. For example, can be protected against imitation with the security element of the invention packaging, such as pharmaceutical packaging, especially folding cartons or cartons.
- the security element according to the invention can also be advantageously used for trademark protection.
- Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of a banknote 10, with an in Fig. 2 security element 12 shown in more detail is provided with a first and second motif.
- the security element 12 has a color layer 20 with magnetically oriented, platelet-shaped magnetic pigments, which are aligned by a spherical magnet in the form of a relatively sharply delimited circular marking 22.
- the color layer 20 substantially over the entire surface of the in Fig. 2 not shown substrate is arranged.
- the circular marker 22 shows a three-dimensional appearing appearance and a dynamic motion effect, in which the position of the marker 22 on the security element 12 seems to move when tilting the security element or when changing the viewing or illumination direction, thus forming a dynamic motif.
- the dynamic motif 22 is combined with a second motif 38 in the form of an embossed structure 32 having raised embossing elements 34a, 34b, 34c with flanks 35, 36.
- a second motif 38 in the form of an embossed structure 32 having raised embossing elements 34a, 34b, 34c with flanks 35, 36.
- the flanks 35, 36 of the embossing elements 34d have a different orientation, so that arranged on the flanks of different orientation magnetic pigments 44 reflect light incident differently and thus the second motif 38 shows a tilting effect when tilting the security element.
- first and the second motif are centrosymmetric, circular in the present case.
- First motif 22 and second motif 38 are not overlapping drawn for reasons of clarity. It is understood that in practice in usually a certain overlap between the first and second motif is provided in order to increase the counterfeit protection by the synergistic interaction of the dynamic movement effect and the tilting effect of the first or second motif.
- the security element according to Fig. 2 therefore has a first motif 22 with a dynamic movement effect and a second motif 38 with a tactile embossing structure 32.
- First motif 22 and second motif 38 work together to form a coherent, centrosymmetric overall motif.
- the viewer can also easily check the security element 12 for authenticity, since the combination of dynamic motif 22 and tactile motif 38 can be tested without any aids.
- the generation of the second motif 38 can produce special effects in the security element according to the invention, which can not be achieved otherwise or only with difficulty.
- Fig. 4 shows a cross section through the security element of Fig. 2 along the line AA while Fig. 3 schematically shows the orientation of the still movable magnetic pigments 44 in the field of a spherical magnet 30.
- the magnetic pigments 44 may be, for example, platelet-shaped iron pigments, which consist of reducing-treated carbonyl iron powder are manufactured and which can be produced with a high ratio of platelet diameter to platelet thickness. Also suitable are wet-chemically prepared pigments with a support of mica or mica and an outer shell of iron oxide (Fe 3 O 4 ), which gives the magnetic pigments their magnetic properties. Such pigments are for example offered by Merck KGaA under the name Colorona Blackstar (R). By changing the iron oxide layer thickness different colors can be achieved (eg green, blue, red). Substantially opaque pigments with a color-shift effect, for example under the name Colorcrypt (R), or substantially opaque pigments with a uniform color, are also available for security printing. For example, a gold-colored magnetically orientable magnetic pigment may comprise Al 2 O 3 coated with Fe 2 O 3 and MgO.
- a color layer 20 based on a UV-curing color system is applied, which contains the desired magnetically alignable, platelet-shaped magnetic pigments 44.
- the printing of the ink layer 20 is preferably carried out by screen printing.
- the substrate 40 is brought with the still moving in the ink layer 20 magnetic pigments 44 at a small distance over a spherical magnet 30 ( Fig. 3 ).
- the spherical magnetic field lines 31 of the sphere magnet 30 align the magnetic pigments 44 substantially perpendicular to the substrate surface in a defined area 42, while the preferred orientation of the magnetic pigments 44 outside the area 42 is substantially parallel to the substrate surface.
- the so aligned Magnetic pigments 44 are permanently fixed in their orientation by curing of the UV varnish, as in the cross-section of FIG Fig. 4 shown.
- a centrosymmetric, circular marking 22 is formed, which in its interior has a substantially uniformly aligned region 24 (FIG. Fig. 2 ) in which the magnetic pigments 44 are substantially perpendicular to the substrate surface.
- the inner region 24 merges into the surrounding region 21 of the marking, in which the magnetic pigments of the color layer 20 are aligned essentially parallel to their surface.
- the surrounding region 21 is provided with magnetic pigments 44 in FIG. 1 oriented substantially parallel to the substrate surface Fig.
- the magnetic pigments 44 are aligned substantially parallel to the substrate surface prior to the introduction of an embossing structure according to the invention.
- the embossing tool is advantageously a non-ink-bearing intaglio printing plate is used, ie a gravure printing plate in which the engraved and provided for embossing depressions have no color.
- the height H of the embossing elements 34a which relates to the substrate, is approximately 30 ⁇ m to 120 ⁇ m, so that these embossing elements 34a form a tactile relief.
- the embossed structure 32 is produced with all raised embossing elements which form the second motif 38.
- the embossed structure 32 is in Fig. 2 as an embossing structure 32 comprising three partial embossing structures 32a, 32b and 32c, which are arranged in the regions 37a, 37b, 37c.
- the introduced embossing structure 32 of the second motif 38 is usually arranged in significantly more areas, in particular in more than 8 areas, whereby a particularly impressive tilting effect in the form of a dynamic movement effect can be produced.
- a particularly impressive tilting effect in the form of a dynamic movement effect can be produced.
- the embossed structure 32a is arranged in the region 37a, which is shown in FIG Fig. 2 immediately adjacent to the surrounding area 21 of the first motif 22.
- the first and second motifs are generally arranged to increase the security against counterfeiting, at least partially overlapping, which, however, for reasons of clarity in FIG Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 not shown.
- the embossing structure 32a comprises the raised embossing elements 34a, which are designed as straight lines.
- In the first area 37a of the second motif 38 are in addition to the in Fig. 4 are shown in cross-section embossing elements 34a arranged a plurality of substantially parallel line-shaped embossing elements. How out Fig. 4 It can also be seen that the embossing elements 34a directly adjoin one another, ie the distance at the base of the embossing elements is 0 ⁇ m in this case.
- the embossing elements 34 a have approximately in Fig. 4 in cross-section shown shape. It is understood that the in Fig. 4 shown cross section of the embossing elements 34a is only schematic. Independently thereof, the embossing elements 34a always have different orientation on flanks on which magnetic pigments are arranged. For example, an embossing element 34a has an edge 36 which extends from the base of the embossing element 34a, designated by the reference numeral 36B, to the zenith of the embossing element 34a, designated by the reference numeral 36Z.
- the embossing element 34a has a flank 35 of different orientation, which extends from the base of the embossing element 35B to the zenith 36Z. It is understood that the extent and the beginning and end of a flank in Fig. 4 are shown in idealized form. Irrespective of this, for all embossing structures according to the invention, the embossing elements have flanks of different orientation.
- the magnetic pigments arranged on the differently oriented flanks 35 and 36 are therefore likewise oriented differently.
- the magnetic pigments 44B disposed on the flank 35 will therefore reflect light incident from a given direction differently than the magnetic pigments 44C disposed on the differently oriented flank 36.
- a viewer, for example, looking from the viewing direction C on the facing flanks 36 of the embossing elements 34a of the first portion 37a of the second motif 38 will perceive the flanks 36 with a different color or brightness than the flanks 35 of the embossing elements 34a.
- This different image impression, i. this different perception of the colors and / or brightness of the flanks 35 and 36 is due to the different reflection of arranged on these flanks magnetic pigments 44B and 44C.
- the viewer changes the viewing direction from the direction C over the substantially vertical viewing direction A to the viewing direction B, the color and / or brightness impression for the flanks 35 and 36 will change. That is to say, when the security element is tilted, the viewer perceives a tilting effect associated with the second motif 38.
- the plurality of substantially parallel line-shaped embossing elements 34a of the region 37a extend in a direction 39a.
- the plurality of substantially parallel line-shaped embossing elements of the embossing structure 32b of the adjacent region 37b extends in the direction 39b, while the plurality of substantially parallel arranged linear embossing elements of the region 37c extends in the direction 39c.
- the angle between the directions 39a and 39b is about 10 °.
- the angle between the directions 39b and 39c of the adjacent portions 37b and 37c is about 10 °.
- the observer of the second motif with the areas 37a, 37b and 37c can thus perceive a tilting effect which is formed as a dynamic movement effect over the areas 37a to 37c.
- a dynamic movement effect of the second motif 38 is associated with a high recognition value for the viewer and interacts synergistically with the dynamic movement effect of the first motif 22, so that such a security element has an extraordinarily high counterfeit protection due to this combination effect.
- the color layer 20 again has a dynamic first motif 52 and a second motif 68 with a tilting effect.
- the tilting effect of the motif 68 essentially corresponds to the tilting effect of the motif 38 of FIG Fig. 2 .
- As well as in Fig. 2 are in Fig. 5 also shown only three areas 67a, 67b and 67c of the second motif 68, whereas in practice significantly more areas, in particular more than 8 areas can be provided to achieve a particularly impressive dynamic effect.
- first motif 52 is not a centrosymmetric motif, but a motif with a symmetry, as in particular in the document WO 2004/007095 A2 is described.
- the dynamic motif 52 may be a motif with arcuately oriented magnetic pigments, as in the embodiment of FIG Fig. 2 also in the embodiment of Fig. 5 an inner region 54 is shown, in which the magnetic pigments are oriented substantially perpendicular to the substrate surface.
- the inner region 54 merges into the surrounding region 51, in which the magnetic pigments of the color layer 20 are aligned essentially parallel to the substrate surface.
- the surrounding area 51 thus comprises all areas of the color layer 20 in which the magnetic pigments were not aligned by the external magnet and thus extends substantially over those color layer areas which lie outside the second motif 52.
- the embossing structure and in particular the orientation of the embossing elements in the regions 67a, 67b and 67c is selected such that a dynamic movement effect of the second motif in the direction 69 results. Consequently is the angle between the first direction of movement 59 and the second direction of movement 69 in the embodiment according to Fig. 5 about 70 ° to 80 °.
- the security element according to Fig. 5 The first and second motifs overlap in regions, so that the first and second dynamic motion effects combine in a synergistic manner to an extraordinarily high recognition value for the viewer.
- the special embodiment of the Fig. 5 the already mentioned advantages of the invention, in particular an extremely high security against counterfeiting.
- the color layer 20 again has a dynamic first motif 52 and a second motif 78 with a tilting effect.
- the first motif 52 is a motif with a symmetry, as in particular in the document WO 2004/007095 A2 described and already related to Fig. 5 was explained in more detail.
- the first motif 52 thus comprises an inner region 54, in which the magnetic pigments are oriented essentially perpendicular to the substrate surface, and a transitional region 56, in which the inner region 54 merges into the surrounding region 51, in which the magnetic pigments of the color layer 20 are substantially parallel are aligned to the substrate surface.
- the surrounding area 51 includes all areas of the ink layer 20 in which the magnetic pigments have not been aligned by the external magnet.
- the second motif 78 In contrast to the second motif 68 of the Fig. 5 is it in the Fig. 6 illustrated second motif 78 to a motif in the in Fig. 6 illustrated form.
- the second motif 78 accordingly comprises the regions 77a, 77b, 77c, 77d, 77e in which the embossed structure is arranged.
- Such a security element according to the invention is characterized in that a dynamic movement effect with linear movement direction 59 or 79 is achieved in a technically completely different manner, namely firstly by the suitable alignment of the magnetic pigments of the first motif 52 and by the provision of embossing structures according to the invention in the region of the second motif 78.
- the achievement of a linear dynamic motion effect by various techniques according to the embodiment of the Fig. 6 makes this variant of the invention exceptionally forgery-proof, since a forgery attempt requires considerable expenditure on equipment. Furthermore, a variant according to Fig. 6 also very appealing to the viewer and moreover easy to check their authenticity.
- FIG. 7 an embodiment in which the security element according to the invention 82 comprises a first motif 52 and a second motif 88, wherein the first motif 52 may be formed, for example, again as a dynamic motif with arc-shaped magnetic pigments, and the second motif 88 in the form of a digit or a letter is trained.
- the second motif 88 in the form of the number "1" obtained by embossing the color layer 20 is shown, this figure being merely illustrative and of course any other numbers, numbers, letters, etc. may be provided.
- the second motif has a plurality of regions 87a to 87p, in each of which a plurality of substantially parallel arranged linear embossing elements is provided, wherein the embossing elements of a region extend in a predetermined direction.
- the angle between the directions of two adjacent regions is chosen so that the second motif 88 when tilting the security element 82 shows a movement in the direction 89.
- the dynamic first motif 52 in turn shows a movement effect in the direction 59
- the second motif 88 in the form of an embossed structure with raised embossing elements shows a movement in the direction 89, which is preferably oriented substantially perpendicular to the direction 59. Due to the embossing structure forming the motif, the second motif 88 is designed as a tactile human feature and can thus be captured haptically visually as well as via its tactility via the dynamic movement effect. In addition to the high protection against counterfeiting realized in particular by the first and second movement effect, the security is further increased by the tactile checking capability of the security element by the man or the woman on the street.
- a tactile second motif 88 also in the in Fig. 1 to Fig.6 described security elements is provided and the formation of the second motif in the form of numerals, letters, etc., of course, in the variants of Fig. 1 to Fig. 6 can be provided. It is also possible in all embodiments shown and described that only a part of the second motif tactile areas in the form of a digit, a letter, etc., and the other part of the second motif, for example as Motif with centrosymmetric symmetry according to the in Fig. 2 and Fig. 5 shown embodiment is formed.

Description
The invention relates to a security element for security papers, documents of value and other data carriers, with a color layer with magnetically oriented magnetic pigments forming a first motif in the form of patterns, characters or a coding, which shows a dynamic movement effect when tilting the security element. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a security element as well as a data carrier or a security paper with such a security element.
Data carriers, such as valuables or identity documents, but also other valuables, such as branded goods, are often provided with security elements for the purpose of security, which permit verification of the authenticity of the data carrier and at the same time serve as protection against unauthorized reproduction. The security elements can be embodied, for example, in the form of a security thread embedded in a banknote, a covering film for a banknote with a hole, an applied security strip, a self-supporting transfer element or else in the form of a feature area applied directly to a value document.
A special role in the authenticity assurance play security elements, the viewing angle-dependent visual effects show, as they can not be reproduced even with the latest copiers. For some time, magnetically orientable effect pigments have been used for this purpose, which are magnetically aligned in the form of a motif to be displayed.
Based on this, the present invention seeks to provide a security element of the type mentioned, which has a high security against counterfeiting with good recognizability and easy verifiability. This object is solved by the security element having the features of the independent product claim. A method for producing such a security element and a data carrier and a security paper with such a security element are specified in the independent claims. Further developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
According to the invention, in a generic security element, the first dynamic motif of the magnetically aligned magnetic pigments is combined with a second motif in the form of an embossed structure having raised embossing elements with flanks of different orientation so that the magnetic pigments arranged on flanks of different orientation reflect different incident light, and the second motif shows a tilting effect when tilting the security element.
By combining a first motive with a dynamic motion effect and a second motive with a tilting effect, the attention and recognition value and thus the security against forgery of the security element are significantly increased. In addition, a tactile security feature is provided by the second motif in the form of an embossed structure with raised embossing elements, which also increases the security against counterfeiting of the security element, since the second motif in the form of an embossed structure, as well as the first motive showing a dynamic motion effect even with the latest copiers not can be reproduced.
The first motif, in the form of a pattern, character, or encoding, is an optically variable security feature that exhibits a dynamic motion effect.
The second motif according to the invention in the form of an embossed structure is likewise an optically variable security feature which exhibits a tilting effect when the security element is tilted. In the context of the present application, "tilting effect" is understood to mean an effect in which a viewer perceives a different image impression of the subject under consideration from different viewing angles. For example, a viewer of the second motif of the security element according to the invention will perceive a different color or brightness impression of the second motif depending on the viewing angle. The tilting effect of the second motif of the security element according to the invention is due to the fact that the raised embossing elements have flanks with different orientation, so that the magnetic pigments arranged on flanks of different orientation reflect light incident differently. When tilting the security element, the orientation of the flanks and the magnetic pigments arranged thereon is changed, so that the viewer perceives the tilting effect described above. The tilting effect according to the invention can be achieved with all magnetic pigments which at least partially reflect incident light, ie electromagnetic radiation in the visible wavelength range from about 380 nm to 780 nm, which is the case for the majority of the available magnetic pigments.
In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic pigments are non-spherical, in particular platelet-shaped. This has the advantage that the magnetic pigments are relatively well magnetically aligned On the other hand, the magnetic pigments on the flanks of the embossing elements are usually arranged so that a particularly good tilting effect is shown. This will be explained in more detail below with reference to the figures.
Furthermore, it is preferred that the magnetic pigments are colored and / or optically variable.
In the optically variable magnetic pigments, pigments having an interference layer structure are particularly preferred. Magnetic pigments with an interference layer structure can be used with a particularly great advantage, showing several layers and a pronounced color-shift effect. These pigments, which are also referred to as (multilayer) thin-film elements, have at least one magnetic layer and, moreover, contain a multilayer structure for producing a color-shift effect. Such pigments are, for example, sold by SICPA SA under the brand name OVMI ®.
In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic pigments are present as a mixture of different, preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments.
The ratio of the largest to the smallest diameter of the platelet-shaped magnetic pigments is advantageously more than 5: 1, preferably more than 10: 1. This ratio is particularly preferably between 40: 1 and 400: 1. The largest diameter of the platelet-shaped magnetic pigments is advantageously more than 2 μm, preferably more than 5 μm, more preferably more than 10 μm and very particularly preferably more than 15 μm. Platelet-shaped magnetic pigments, in particular in the preferred size range and in the preferred diameter-to-thickness range, can be oriented as desired by an external magnetic field relative to the layer plane of the color layer. With high diameter-to-thickness ratios, high contrasts between translucent and opaque layer areas can be set.
The oriented platelet-shaped magnetic pigments form an effective three-dimensional appearance to the human eye, which is referred to in this description as a "3D effect" or "3D impression". The three-dimensional appearance is associated with a dynamic movement effect, in which the position of the generated motif seems to move when tilting the security element or when changing the viewing or lighting direction.
In a preferred embodiment, the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments are aligned by a magnet, in particular by a ball magnet or by a plurality of spaced ball magnets in the form of a centrosymmetric motif. With particular advantage, the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments in the interior of the centrosymmetric motif are aligned substantially perpendicular to the surface of the ink layer, and are aligned outside the centrosymmetric motif with a sharp transition substantially parallel to the surface of the ink layer.
The alignment is done in a preferred variant by exactly one ball magnet in the form of the first motif.
In another likewise advantageous variant of the invention, the magnetic pigments are aligned by a plurality of spaced-apart spherical magnets in the form of the first motif. The plurality of ball magnets can be in direct contact with each other during the alignment step or separated from each other by spacers. The ball magnets can be arranged with such a large distance that their magnetic fields do not influence each other practically. However, it is also possible to use the superimposition of the magnetic fields of the individual spheres specifically to produce attractive orientations. In all variants simultaneously ball magnets of different diameters can be used.
Another way to specifically control the orientation of the magnetic pigments, is to adjust the distance of the ball magnet or the ball magnets to the color layer of the security element suitable. The smaller this distance, the greater the selectivity from oriented to non-oriented areas. The most pronounced 3D effect, on the other hand, is achieved at slightly greater distances. When aligning a plurality of spherical magnets can be arranged at different distances to the ink layer and thus create motifs with different degrees of expression of the 3D effect and different selectivity.
In a further preferred embodiment, the preferably platelet-shaped magnetic pigments are aligned in the form of a motif having two regions in which the magnetic pigments are aligned substantially parallel to two planes pointing in different directions, preferably with a sharp transition between the regions.
In an advantageous variant of the invention, the second motif is arranged at least partially in the region of the first motif. This overlapping arrangement of the first and second motif results in a security element according to the invention with an exceptionally high protection against counterfeiting, since the optically variable effects of the first and second motif, ie the dynamic one Movement effect or the tipping effect, synergistically interact. Although the optically variable effects of the first and second motif alone are not reproducible by, for example, color copiers, the overlapping arrangement of the first and second motifs makes it impossible to imitate with, for example, color copiers. Namely, the overlapping areas of the first and second motifs result in such a complex superimposition of the dynamic effect of the first subject and the tilting effect of the second motif that any attempted counterfeiting is doomed to failure. Apart from the increased security against imitation such a design with at least partially overlapping first and second motif is also relatively appealing to the viewer, which increases the recognition value of a security element according to the invention and thus ultimately also the security against counterfeiting.
Of course, it is also possible that the second motif is arranged substantially completely within the region of the first motif.
In addition, first and second motif to increase the security against counterfeiting can also be arranged in register to each other. Such an arrangement of the first and second motif with perfect registration "sews" the motifs of the color layer together, as it were. In addition, if the embossed structure of the second motif is also left in the region of the surrounding substrate, e.g. a document of value or security paper on which the security element according to the invention is arranged, the security element is also "sewn" to the surrounding substrate.
In a likewise advantageous variant of the invention, the first and second motif are in a sense context or form a coherent one Total motif. In the context of the present application, "context of meaning" is understood to mean a connection that the viewer makes according to the meaning. For example, the first motif could be formed centrosymmetrically in the form of a sun, while the second motif is in the form of sun rays extending away from the sun. Another example of two meaningful motifs would be a sphere for a motif and a second motif in the form of a vessel adapted to the shape of the sphere. Also in this case, the ball could be formed by a subject with dynamic motion effect and the vessel by a subject with tilting effect, which of course also the reverse assignment of dynamic motion effect and tilt effect is possible to the subjects. That is, the vessel could be designed as a first subject with dynamic motion effect and the ball as a second subject with tilting effect.
In a further advantageous variant of the invention, it is further preferred if the first and second motif form a coherent overall motif. In this case too, reference may be made again to the examples described above "sun / sunbeams" and "sphere / vessel". Of course, it is also possible, for example, an article or a product, e.g. a house, a table, a car or a music sheet to form by the arrangement of the first and second motif according to the invention. For this purpose, the first and second motif may advantageously overlap. However, it is not necessary for the formation of such an overall motif that the second motif is arranged at least partially in the region of the first motif.
In a preferred variant of the invention it is provided that the raised embossing elements of the embossing structure are formed linear. Under one In the following, line will be understood as a combination of two points, according to the definition given in Paperback of Mathematics, Bronstein, Semendjajew, 25th edition. Of course, according to this definition, in addition to a straight connection also includes a non-linear, ie curved, curved or spiral connection of two points in two- or three-dimensional space with. In terms of the present invention, this means that linear embossing elements are understood to mean all three-dimensional elements whose projections form a line in the plane of the optically variable element in accordance with the above definition.
According to the invention, line-shaped stamping elements which are straight are preferred. Conceivable but also curved, spiral and differently shaped embossing elements.
The line-shaped embossing elements advantageously have a width of from 10 μm to 500 μm, preferably from 20 μm to 180 μm and very particularly preferably from 30 μm to 150 μm.
To the preferred width of the line-shaped embossing elements is still to be noted that this need not necessarily be constant or substantially constant over the length of a stamping element. Rather, it may even be preferable to modulate the width of the embossing elements in a predetermined manner. Such an embossing element has along its length then, for example, a continuously changed width, which further increases the recognition value and thus the security against forgery of the security element according to the invention. If the embossing elements are changed in width according to one or both sides, the term "half-sided or double-sided modulated embossing element" is used. About that It should also be noted that a one- or two-sided modulation can take place both continuously and in the form of one or more stages along the embossing element.
The line-shaped embossing elements advantageously have at their base a distance of from 0 μm to 300 μm, preferably from 0 μm to 50 μm.
Furthermore, the line-shaped embossing elements preferably have a length of more than 150 μm, more preferably of more than 1000 μm.
Die Höhe der Prägeelemente beträgt ca. 10 µm bis 300 µm, bevorzugt ca. 20 µm bis 200 µm und ganz besonders bevorzugt ca. 30 µm bis 120 µm.The height of the embossing elements is about 10 microns to 300 microns, preferably about 20 microns to 200 microns and most preferably about 30 microns to 120 microns.
If a multiplicity of substantially linearly arranged line-shaped embossing elements are provided for the embossed structure, the line density is approximately 10 lines / cm to 1000 lines / cm, preferably 20 lines / cm to 300 lines / cm, and very particularly preferably 40 lines / cm to 150 lines / cm.
The embossing structure forming the second motif may advantageously have a plurality of regions, in each of which a multiplicity of substantially linearly arranged line-shaped embossing elements is arranged. It has been shown that the provision of several areas, each with a plurality of substantially parallel arranged embossing elements for generating responsive tilting effects is particularly suitable. The number of areas is advantageously more than eight.
Furthermore, a security element in which the multiplicity of line-shaped embossing elements of adjacent regions arranged substantially parallel to one another extends in different directions such that the second motif shows a second dynamic motion effect when tilting the security element. The second dynamic movement effect perceivable by the viewer for these special embodiments is thus a special case of the general tilting effect claimed according to the invention for the second motif. Security elements that simultaneously display a second dynamic motion effect of the second subject and the dynamic motion effect of the first subject are extremely tamper-proof and, moreover, very appealing to a viewer.
Particularly appealing and preferred dynamic motion effects of the second motif can be generated in particular by the angle between the directions of two adjacent regions having substantially parallel line-shaped embossing elements being between 1 ° and 15 °, particularly preferably between 3 ° and 10 °. The viewer perceives in such embodiments when tilting the security element a relatively finely graded movement through the second motif true.
The ink layer can be a printing layer produced by a printing method known per se, with a color layer which is formed as a screen printing layer currently being preferred.
In order to enable the fixation of the oriented magnetic pigments, the color layer with the magnetic pigments is expediently formed on the basis of a UV-curing color system, pure UV systems, UV / water-based systems or even UV / solvent-based systems being considered.
In addition to the magnetically oriented magnetic pigments, the color layer may also comprise dyes, luminescent substances or further pigments, in particular colored pigments, luminescent or optically variable pigments, for example pigments prepared on the basis of liquid-crystalline polymers, or iridescent pearlescent pigments, as described, for example, by Merck KGaA under the name "Iriodin ®" are marketed, contain. In addition, however, the color layer may also contain, for example, further magnetic, in particular soft magnetic pigments. All additives can have machine readable properties.
Furthermore, an embodiment is preferred in which the color layer is arranged on a background layer which is colored or optically variable, or which has magnetic properties. In particular, the background layer may be a colored or optically variable or magnetically coded identification exhibit. Such a marking can also interact visually with the first and / or second motif and, for example, be in a sense context with the first and / or second motif or form a coherent motif.
The security element according to the invention can be further provided with one or more protective layers for use as a security element for security papers, value documents and other data carriers, e.g. with a transparent protective varnish.
- a color layer with magnetically orientable magnetic pigments is applied to a substrate,
- the magnetic pigments are magnetically aligned in the form of patterns, characters or a coding and fixed in their orientation, whereby a first motive with a dynamic movement effect is generated, and
- by means of an embossing tool in the ink layer, an embossed structure with raised embossing elements is produced such that the embossing elements flanks have different orientation, and the magnetic pigments arranged on the flanks of different orientation reflect differently incident light, so that the second motif shows a tilting effect when tilting the security element.
In a preferred process variant, a color layer based on a UV-curing color system is used and the aligned magnetic pigments are fixed by UV curing of the color layer. The ink layer is preferably printed by screen printing, even if fundamentally other printing processes, such as flexographic printing, offset printing or intaglio printing, come into question.
In a likewise preferred variant of the method, a non-ink-bearing gravure printing plate, in particular a non-ink-bearing intaglio printing plate, is used as the embossing tool, and the embossed structure is produced in the color layer as so-called "blind embossing". In principle, however, it is also conceivable to use an ink-bearing intaglio printing plate as the embossing tool, in particular an ink-bearing intaglio printing plate, whereby the security element is produced with embossing structure according to the invention and at the same time a further application of ink in the area of the embossed structure. It would be conceivable here, for example, the use of translucent, i. translucent colors, which produce a mixed color with the color of the magnetic pigment containing color layer.
Finally, the invention also encompasses a data carrier or a security paper with a security element of the type described, wherein the security element can be arranged both in an opaque region of the data carrier and at least partially in or above a transparent window region or a continuous opening of the data carrier. In particular, the data carrier can be a value document, such as a banknote, in particular a paper banknote, a polymer banknote or a foil-paper composite banknote, or an identity card, such as a credit card, a bankcard, a cashcard, an authorization card, a banknote Identity card or passport personalization page act. In addition, the security element according to the invention can also be used for securing products of any kind, that is for so-called product security. For example, can be protected against imitation with the security element of the invention packaging, such as pharmaceutical packaging, especially folding cartons or cartons. In addition to product protection, the security element according to the invention can also be advantageously used for trademark protection.
- komplexe Herstellung; die Bedruckstoffe, Farben und Prägewerkzeuge sind nicht ohne Weiteres auf dem freien Markt verfügbar;
- gute Erkennbarkeit der relevanten Sicherheitseffekte ohne Hilfsmittel;
- complex production; the substrates, colors and embossing tools are not readily available on the open market;
- good visibility of the relevant safety effects without aids;
- Increasing the share of added value in the printing works, as the embossing structure achieves an additional design effect with significantly increased safety; and
- Increase the security of the data carrier by combination effects and with other methods not easily attainable registration accuracy.

The

The dynamic
