Definitions
- the invention relates to a grounding clip formed of a one-piece metal plate having an elastically deformable U shape, the "first” and “second” wings and said base defining a longitudinal slot capable of receiving the engagement of a support, said “first” and “second” wings being traversed by a transverse slot substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal slot and adapted to receive the engagement of a ground wire having a conductive core and an insulating sheath.
- the invention also relates to a grounding assembly comprising at least one earthing clip, a support having at least one edge capable of being engaged in a slot and a grounding wire comprising a conductive core and an insulating sheath.
- grounding clip is commonly used to ground any type of electrical equipment, including solar panels. Indeed, the regulations in force require, especially in France, that each solar panel is connected to the earth by a ground wire. This connection must be durable and easy to install. Specific earthing clips formed, for example, from a metal plate to which a ground wire is connected are therefore used. The plate generally defines a slot adapted to be engaged on a metal edge of the solar panel to electrically connect the ground wire and the edge of the solar panel. When connecting, the ground wire must be stripped so that its copper core can be in electrical contact simultaneously with the metal edge and the earthing clip. This stripping must be done carefully to cut the plastic sheath without removing copper from the ground wire or it may significantly change the technical characteristics of this ground wire and affect the effectiveness of the setting.
- the edge The solar panel panel is scratched to provide better electrical contact between the metal edge and the grounding clip.
- This type of grounding clip can be used for other similar applications such as, for example, grounding subscriber telephone cables when wiring telephone exchanges.
- the publication US 6,106,310 discloses the preamble of the independent claim 1.
- the publication FR 2,694,141 discloses a grounding clip formed of a one-piece metal plate curved in S so as to define two elastically deformable slots oriented away from one another and separated by a wall. A slot is intended to be engaged on a metal support, the other to receive the ground wire.
- this earthing clip has cutouts folded towards the inside of each slot in order to protrude therefrom and to form knives capable of cutting the insulating sheath of the earth wire. to an adequate depth to ensure electrical contact between the ground wire and the grounding clip. Due to the orientation of the slots, once the grounding clip is installed with the ground wire on the metal support, the ground wire extends in a plane substantially parallel to the edge of the metal support. This arrangement of the ground wire is often impractical because, for the installation of the ground wire, an orientation perpendicular to the edge of the solar panel is often preferred. Furthermore, with this earthing clip, the ground wire is not reliably secured to the earthing clip from which it can be inadvertently disconnected.
- the publication US 6,106,310 discloses a grounding clip formed of a one-piece metal plate including deformable tabs adapted to grip the ground wire to ensure its maintenance.
- This earthing clip comprises a wall and two bent elastically deformable wings, defining with the wall, two slots adapted to be engaged on a metal support. The wings are also provided with deformed cuts towards the inside of the slots in order to promote the attachment of the earthing clip on the support and to guarantee the electrical contact.
- the deformable tabs are oriented perpendicular to the opening of the slots and thus allow the ground wire, once the clip of installed ground, extends perpendicular to the edge of the metal support in a substantially merged plane.
- this construction is bulky and the deformable tabs significantly exceed the metal support after installation of the earthing clip.
- it should be stripped which requires an additional operation that must be repeated for each ground wire.
- the publication US 3,528,050 discloses a grounding clip formed of a one-piece metal plate shaped elastically deformable U defining a slot adapted to be engaged on a metal support. The free ends of the slot are flared to facilitate this engagement.
- the wall of the metal plate has a deformed cut towards the inside of the slot in order to promote the attachment of the earthing clip on the support and to guarantee the electrical contact.
- the metal plate is also traversed by two orifices through which a ground wire can flow so that a portion of the earth wire is located in the slot and plated by the U-shape against the metal support once. the grounding clip installed.
- the orifices are aligned perpendicular to the opening of the slot.
- the ground wire extends perpendicular to the edge of the metal support. To ensure electrical contact between the ground wire and the grounding clip, the ground wire must be stripped before insertion into the holes.
- the publication US 4,456,321 discloses an earthing clip formed of a metal plate and a locking element.
- the plate has an elastically deformable U shape defining a first slot adapted to be engaged on the metal support.
- the base of the U-shape has a second slot with parallel edges oriented perpendicular to the first slot and adapted to receive the ground wire so that the latter is in a plane perpendicular to that of the opening of the first slot .
- the second slot of the plate thus opens opposite the first slot.
- the plate has deformed cuts towards the inside of the slot including cutouts promoting the attachment of the earthing clip and the contact electrical, and other cutouts defining stops limiting the depth of engagement of the plate on the support.
- the locking element also has a U shape defining a third slot adapted to be engaged over the plate.
- the outer wall of the plate and the inner wall of the locking element comprise complementary shapes able to engage one another when the locking element is engaged on the plate.
- the locking element further comprises a fourth slot with parallel edges oriented perpendicular to the third slot and adapted to receive the earth wire so that the latter is in a plane perpendicular to that of the opening of the third slot .
- the parallel edges of the second and fourth slots are cut to sever the sheath of the ground wire and to provide electrical contact with the copper core.
- the publication US5,451,167 discloses a grounding clip formed of a T-shaped one-piece metal plate whose main stem is bent under the central portion of the T-shaped to form a first elastically deformable slot adapted to be engaged on a metal support .
- the central part of the T-shape and the main stem are provided with deformed cut-outs towards the inside of the slot to promote attachment of the earthing clip and to guarantee electrical contact.
- the lateral branches of the T-shape are raised in a U-shape above the central part, opposite the first slot.
- the lateral branches each comprise a second slot oriented in a plane perpendicular to the opening of the first slot and opening away from the central portion.
- These second slots are of less width than the soul in copper of the ground wire and their edges are provided sharp to cut the plastic sheath.
- Each slot has an enlarged portion adapted to receive the core of the earth wire after cutting the plastic sheath.
- the second slots having a width less than the core of the ground wire, the latter may be damaged by the sharp edges of the second slots when placing the ground wire.
- the U-shape greatly exceeds the support engagement slot. This earthing clip is therefore bulky.
- the introduction of the ground wire is made difficult by the need to introduce it into the second two slots of the wings of the U-shape.
- the portion of ground wire located between the wings of the form U-shaped is unused which represents an extra cost in ground wire.
- it is possible to disengage the ground wire of the one or two second slots and interrupt the electrical contact. This earthing clip does not allow reliable electrical contact.
- the object of the invention is to overcome these disadvantages by providing a grounding clip simple to manufacture, compact, usable instinctively without any specific tool other than possibly a hammer, allowing a simple electrical connection, reliable and fast of a ground wire on a support, making it possible to be freed from the need to strip the ground wire before connection
- the subject of the invention is a grounding clip formed of a one-piece metal plate having an elastically deformable U shape, the "first" and “second” wings of which and said base define a longitudinal slot capable of receiving the edge of a support, said “first” and “second” wings being traversed by a transverse slot substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal slot and adapted to receive a ground wire comprising a conductive core and an insulating sheath, characterized in that said longitudinal and transverse slots open on the same side of said grounding clip so that once said grounding clip is in place on said support, said ground wire is wedged between said support and the bottom of said transverse slot, in that on at least one "first” wing portion the width of said longitudinal slot increases towards said base and that simultaneously, on at minus a "first” portion of said "first” wing portion, the width of said transverse slot decreases to sever said insulating sheath upon introduction of said ground wire into said transverse slot.
- the earthing clip according to the invention can be obtained simply and reproducibly by cutting and folding a single piece of sheet metal.
- the earthing clip is simple to use, instinctively and without tools, and the "first" part in which the width of the longitudinal slot increases and the width of the transverse slot decreases to avoid previously denuding the ground wire.
- the invention also relates to a grounding assembly comprising at least one earthing clip, a support having at least one edge adapted to be engaged in a slot and a ground wire comprising a conductive core and a insulating sheath, characterized in that it comprises a grounding clip as described above, in that said edge of said support is housed in said longitudinal slot, in that said ground wire is housed between the bottom of said transverse slot and said support, and in that on said "first" part, the width of said transverse slot decreases by a width greater than the outside diameter of said insulating sheath with a width substantially equal to that of said conductive core.
- the earthing clip according to the invention is used to fix a ground wire on a support and electrically connect the support to the ground.
- the ground wire 10 used comprises a conductive core 11, generally copper, covered by an insulating sheath 12, generally made of plastic.
- the conductive core 11 may be a solid core formed of a single wire or a braided core formed of a plurality of filaments.
- One end of the ground wire 10 is connected to the earthing clip described later, the other end (not shown) is grounded in a known manner.
- the support is for example a solar energy panel or any other suitable support having an edge, preferably substantially flat and a few millimeters thick, which can be engaged in a slot.
- the earthing clip 1 is formed of a one-piece metal plate folded so as to have a U-shaped shape defined by a "first" and a “second” wings 2, 3 interconnected by a base 4.
- the metal plate is elastically deformable at the first and second longitudinal fold lines L1, L2 connecting the first "and” second “wings 2, 3 and the base 4.
- These first and second longitudinal fold lines L1, L2 as well as the other longitudinal fold lines described below are represented on the figure 4 by mixed fine lines at two points.
- the "first” and “second” wings 2, 3 can therefore be elastically close to or distant from each other. In this deformed state, the "first" and “second” wings 2, 3 tend to return to their undeformed position.
- the "first" and “second” wings 2, 3 define, with the base 4, a longitudinal slot 5 intended to receive the edge of the support 100 (shown in FIGS. Figures 2 and 3 ).
- This longitudinal slot 5 is traversed by a transverse slot 6 intended to receive the earth wire 10 provided in the "first" and “second” wings 2, 3, substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal slot 5 and opening on the same side of the setting clip. to the earth 1 that the longitudinal slot 5.
- the “first” wing 2 comprises two “first” cutouts 20 distributed on either side of the transverse slot 6.
- the "first” cutouts 20 form a right angle V of which a “first” branch extends substantially perpendicularly from the corresponding outer edge of the "first” wing 2 to the transverse slot 6, and whose "second” leg extends substantially parallel to the transverse slot 6.
- the “first” cutouts 20 may also have any other shape adapted. Each “first” cut 20 thus delimits a "first” flap 21 bent, with respect to a third longitudinal fold line L3, towards the inside of the longitudinal slot 5.
- Each "first" flap 21 thus defines, with the "first”"wing 2, a first angle ⁇ (visible on the figures 1 and 5 ) for example from 5 to 15 °.
- This first angle ⁇ is small and facilitates the introduction of the support 100 in the longitudinal slot 5.
- the first angle ⁇ makes it possible to resist any attempt to remove the support 100 from this same slot 5.
- these "first" cutouts 20 are made with removal of material, that is to say that, when the metal plate is presented flat (see figure 4 ), there is a gap between the edge of each "first" flap 21 and the remainder of the metal plate.
- each "first" shutter 21 whose free end is intended to come into contact with the support 100 in order to favor the retention of the earthing clip 1 on the support 100 and the contact between the earthing clip 1 and the support 100.
- the free end of each "first” flap 21 is rectilinear. This free end may also be provided with one or more points, for example interconnected by a circular arc, these spikes further promoting the maintenance and the electrical contact.
- the "first" wing 2 also comprises two "third" cutouts 22 distributed on either side of the transverse slot 6, substantially similar to the "first" cutouts 20 and provided offset to the base 4 of the shape in U with respect to the "first” cutouts 20.
- the "third” cutouts 22 may also have any other suitable shape.
- the “third” cutouts 22 form “third” flaps 23 and are different from the “first" cut-outs 20 mainly by the fact that these "third” flaps 23 are folded around a fourth longitudinal fold line L4 towards the inside the longitudinal slot 5, according to a second angle ⁇ (visible on the figure 5 ) the "third” flaps 23 thus define, before the bottom of the longitudinal slot 5, a stop adapted to receive the support of the support 100 which does not risk so to crush the ground wire 10 at the risk of damaging it.
- the "third” cutouts 22 are also different from the “first" cut-outs 20 by the fact that these "third” cut-outs 22 are made without removal of material, that is to say that, when the metal plate is presented flat ( see it figure 4 ), there is only the space of each "third” cutout 22 between the edge of the "third” flap 23 and the rest of the metal plate.
- the “second” wing 3 comprises two “second” cutouts 30 distributed on either side of the transverse slot 6 and substantially similar to the "first" cutouts 20.
- the “second” cutouts 30 may also have any other suitable shape such that particularly a pointed form illustrated by the figure 3 .
- the “second” cutouts 30 are provided between the “first” and “third” cutouts 20, 22. They form “second” flaps 31 which are folded, with the free ends of the "second” flange 3, around a fifth longitudinal fold line L5, towards the inside of the longitudinal slot 5, with a third angle ⁇ (visible on the figures 1 and 5 ) for example from 20 to 40 °.
- the free ends 32 of the "second” wing 3 are thus in the direct extension of the "second” flap 31.
- the longitudinal fold line 33 extends substantially parallel to the bottom of the U-shape, starting from the end of each "second” cut 30 to the opposite edge of the "second” wing 3.
- the "second” cutouts 30 are different from the “first” cutouts 20 by the fact that these "second” cuts 30 are made without removal of material, that is, that when the metal plate is laid out flat (see figure 4 ), there is only the space of each "second” cut 30 between the edge of the "second” flap 31 and the remainder of the metal plate. This construction promotes the rigidity of the "second” flaps 31.
- the "second” flap 31 is biased, it is the entire “second” flange 3 which flexes from the base of the U-shape.
- the "first" and “second” wings 2, 3 are substantially flat. They are oriented inclined relative to each other by a fourth angle ⁇ (visible on the figure 5 ) for example from 10 to 20 ° so that, on a "first" wing portion P1 (shown in FIG. figure 5 ), the width of the longitudinal slot 5 increases from a clamping zone Z1 to a flared zone Z2 at the base of the U-shape. This construction makes it possible to maintain the support in the longitudinal slot 5.
- a " second "wing portion P2 shown in FIG. figure 5
- the free end 32 of the "second" wing 3 folded outwardly of the longitudinal slot 5 forms an introduction zone Z3 facilitating the engagement of the support in the longitudinal slot 5.
- the transverse slot 6 for receiving the engagement of the ground wire 10 has a different width along its length.
- the transverse slot 6 has a substantially constant width, for example greater than that of the outer diameter of the sheath insulating 12 of the ground wire 10, thus promoting the engagement of the ground wire 10 in the transverse slot 6.
- the transverse slot 6 has a width which gradually decreases to a width substantially equal to the diameter of the conductive core 11.
- the insulating sheath 12 is thus cut off.
- the edges of the transverse slot 6 can be provided cutting on this "first” part P11. As the cut is made, the progressive spacing of the "first” and “second” wings 2, 3 on the “first” wing portion P1 promotes the cutting of the insulating sheath 12.
- the conductive core 11 is in contact with the edges of the transverse slot 6.
- the transverse slot 6 has a width substantially constant and equal to the diameter of the conductive core 11 which ensures electrical contact between the earthing clip 1 and the conductive core 11.
- the earthing clip 1 according to the invention is easily achievable from for example a piece of steel plate, cut and folded. Once made, the earthing clip 1 can undergo heat treatments to reinforce its mechanical characteristics. It can also undergo a surface treatment to protect it from environmental aggressions.
- the earth wire 10 is placed facing the transverse slot 6 into which it is introduced.
- the ground wire 10 is thus received in the "third" portion P13 widest of the transverse slot 6 and in the "first" portion P11 of the "first" wing portion P1 having a width which decreases progressively along which the "first” and “second” wings 2, 3 gradually deviate and wherein the insulating sheath 12 of the ground wire 10 is cut.
- the ground wire 10 is then received in the "second” portion P12, the narrowest of the transverse slot 6, along which the "first” and “second” wings 2, 3 gradually deviate.
- the width of the "second” portion P12 being similar to the diameter of the conductive core 11, any attack on the latter is avoided.
- the earthing clip 1 is presented in front of the support 100 so that the longitudinal slot 5 is substantially parallel to the relevant edge of the support 100. This edge is engaged in the longitudinal slot 5, initially in the zone d Z3 introduction.
- the "first" and “second” wings 2, 3 are elastically spaced apart from one another until the thickness of the nip zone Z1 corresponds to the thickness of the edge of the support 100. The engagement is continued until the edge of the support 100 comes to bear on the abutments formed by the "third" flaps 23.
- the "third" flap 23 thus ensures the proper positioning of the earthing clip 1 on the support 100 During this engagement, the ends of the "first” and “second” flaps 21, 22 rub against the support 100, or even the strip which allows in particular to remove any dirt that could affect the quality of the electrical contact between the clip of 1 and the support 100.
- the “first” and “second” flaps 21, 22 ensure the positioning of the earthing clip 1 is maintained on the support 100.
- the engagement of the ground wire 10 in the transverse slot 6 and the engagement of the support 100 in the longitudinal slot 5 p may be successive or simultaneous.
- the use of the earthing clip 1 is simple and can be done without instructions. This use does not require a specific tool, at most possibly a hammer to ensure the engagement of the support in the longitudinal slot 5.
- This type of earthing clip 1 can nevertheless be used with an automatic setting tool charger type can for example contain twenty grounding clips 1 and to improve the performance of installation.
- the earthing clip 1 In the committed position illustrated by the figure 3 , the earthing clip 1 is in position and the earthing assembly is made.
- the longitudinal 5 and transverse slots 6 opening on the same side of said earthing clip 1 the ground wire 10 is wedged in the earthing clip 1 by the support 100 at the bottom of the transverse slot 6.
- the putting assembly The resulting ground is compact and the ground wire is optimally oriented, namely perpendicular to the longitudinal slot 5 and the edge of the support 100.
- the earthing clip 1 allows a mounting without stripping of the ground wire 10.
