Description

The present invention relates to a method of fixing an electric harness. Its main purpose is to secure the operation of various equipment of a motor vehicle.

The field of the invention is, in general, that of the protection of connections or electrical connections, and more particularly of the protection of electrical harnesses.

A motor vehicle is equipped with electrical harnesses, making it possible to connect different equipment or electrical and / or electronic elements of a vehicle to each other. An electrical harness includes at least one electrical wire and a sheath protecting said electrical wire. The electrical wires of the various beams are fixed by soldering, crimping or the like, to an electrical circuit, for making electronic connections. The electronic connections are likely to be in the safety equipment, for example in an airbag, or in optional equipment, for example in a car radio.

However, an electrical connection may be damaged by a user. For example, if the user holds a part of the vehicle by the beams, said beams may be torn off with the weight of said part. The connections connecting the harness to the electrical circuit are then deteriorated. Such deterioration of the connections is visible or not. When the deterioration is visible, the beams are torn off, and the user can repair or repair the connection. However, when the deterioration is not visible, the beam is still in the room, but the connection no longer works. In this case, the user may replace the defective part in the vehicle, and the function to be provided by the room in question will not be filled, which may, in some cases, pose security problems. For example, for a faulty electrical connection on airbag type safety equipment, there is a risk of not opening the airbag considered during an impact.

Thus, the robustness of an electrical connection is therefore essential for the operation of the elements associated with the connection in question, and it can even in some cases be an important guarantee of security for a user.

Different systems to reduce the efforts, the constraints exerted by the user on the beams exist.

For example, a first system is known in which the electric wire is passed through an "S" shaped conduit having numerous curvatures. The large number of curvatures combined with low value radii of curvature considerably reduce the user's constraints on the connection connecting the electrical harness to an electrical circuit.

The major disadvantage of this system is the size it causes, congestion which is hardly compatible with the requirements of car manufacturers who ask to limit the size of the various equipment present, the latter being always more numerous.

A second system is to put a connector to ensure the connection between the harness and the electrical circuit. The connector is automatically inserted into an electrical circuit, before being soldered to the electrical circuit. The thus welded connector becomes then inseparable from the electrical circuit. The beams are then connected to the connector. When a user holds the part by the beams, the connector remains welded to the electrical circuit.

The major disadvantage of this system is that the electrical harnesses can always be damaged or ripped, in defiance of the operation of the electrical connection; another problem inherent in this second system is the cost generated.

A third system, used in electrical cords of household appliances, consists of overmolding plastic around a bundle and an insert. The electrical wire of the beam is welded to the insert, and the sheath of said beam remains outside. Overmoulding of the assembly, beam and insert, is performed in a mold. A plastic material surrounds the sheath and the insert.

The major disadvantage of this system is that the overmolding process causes constraints on the electrical connection. The part of the sheath that is overmolded, slides into the plastic and folds. The soldering of the electric wire is then no longer properly protected. In the document US 2005/0159047 A1 , an insert has a toothed portion which is output on the sheath of the cable. The insert and the cable are then overmoulded.

The fixing method according to the invention, and the associated device, make it possible to solve the problems that have just been mentioned. In the invention, a solution is proposed for improving the maintenance of the beams at their connection on an electric circuit; for this purpose, in the invention, it is proposed in particular to add a toothed portion on an insert receiving said beam.

The device according to the invention has several advantages, particularly in economic terms by limiting the number of repairs and / or replacement to be made, but also in terms of security thanks to the reliability of the connections.

These are presented only as an indication and in no way limitative of the invention. The figures show:
  • to the figure 1 , a representation of a sectional view of the device according to the invention before a crimping step;
  • to the figure 2 , a representation of a sectional view of the device according to the invention after a crimping step;
  • to the figure 3 a representation of a diagram of an exemplary implementation of the method according to the invention;
  • to the figure 4 , a representation of a perspective view of a part made by the method according to the invention.

The different elements appearing in different figures will, unless otherwise specified, retain the same references. The dimensions mentioned are, unless otherwise specified, expressed in millimeters.

The figure 1 represents a sectional view of the device according to the invention before a crimping step 310.

  • un faisceau 100, comportant un fil électrique 120 et une gaine 110 ;
  • un insert 200 comportant une partie dentée 220.
The device according to the invention comprises in particular the following elements:
  • a beam 100 comprising an electric wire 120 and a sheath 110;
  • an insert 200 having a toothed portion 220.

The electrical wire 120 is made of an electrically conductive material. The sheath 110 for not conducting electricity, is made of an insulating material. The insert 200 is advantageously a deformable material, made of the same material as the electric wire 120, said material being electrically conductive; advantageously, the insert 200 is therefore a metal insert. The toothed portion 220 of the insert 200 is located in this example under the sheath 110. The toothed portion 220 has teeth directed towards the sheath 110. The teeth are distributed over a defined length and have a defined depth according to the sheath thickness 110. For example, it is proposed a tooth distribution over five millimeters in length, and a depth of 0.5 millimeters for a 1.5 millimeter thick sheath.

In another embodiment, the insert 200 may comprise a toothed circular portion surrounding the sheath 110. The bundle 100 then passes through the toothed circular portion so that the sheath 110 is at the circular toothed portion and the wire 120 is located above the insert 200.

The electrical wire 120 provides an electrical connection with the insert 200. The insert 200 can be connected to a printed circuit not shown.

The figure 2 , described in conjunction with the diagram of the figure 3 , represents a sectional view of the device according to the invention after the crimping step 310.

On the figure 2 , we find in particular the elements present at the figure 1 , in particular an insert 200, comprising a toothed portion 220, and a beam 100, comprising an electric wire 120 and a sheath 110.

The process according to the invention comprises in particular two stages:
  • A first step, called holding 300, consists in maintaining an electrical connection between the electrical wire 120 of the bundle 100 and the insert 200. The electrical connection is made by a welding 400 making it possible to conduct the electricity between the bundle 100 and the In another embodiment, the welding 400 is replaced by a crimping.
  • A second so-called crimping step 310 consists in permanently fixing the insert 200 on the sheath 110 by deformation of the sheath 110 on the toothed portion 220. The crimping step 310 advantageously comprises two operations:
    • ■ A clamping operation 311, which involves a first movable element and a second movable element, not shown, the function of which consists in clamping the insert 200 against the sheath 110. The first movable element is thus supported on the sheath 110 and the second movable element bears on the toothed portion 220 of the insert 200. When the two movable elements are in abutment, forcing the sheath 110 on the toothed portion 220, the insert 200 and the sheath 110 are in the position of Tightening.
    • ■ An overmoulding operation 312, which is advantageously carried out during the clamping operation 311. The overmoulding operation 312 consists in producing an overmoulding 600, in particular of plastic material, around the sheath 110, the insert 200 and the moving parts.

After the overmolding operation 312, when the movable elements are loosened and then withdrawn, two openings 500 appear in the overmolding 600. The openings 500 are located at the sheath 110 and at the toothed portion 220. Thus, Crimping step 310 allows the toothed portion 220 and the sheath 110 to maintain a clamping position during the life of a workpiece 700.

The figure 4 represents a perspective view of a part 700 made by the method according to the invention.

The part 700 is shown after the crimping step 310. The openings 500 left after removal of the movable elements are visible following the overmolding operation 312 of the plastic. Overmolding 600 thus traps the electrical wire 120 and the insert 200, to protect the crimping 400 and thus the electrical connection, and traps the sheath 110 and the toothed portion 220 in the clamping position. The prolonged holding of the clamping position advantageously increases the difficulty in tearing the beam 100, and thus protects the electrical connection.
