Der Deckelstab und der Garniturstreifen werden in die Vorrichtung eingelegt. Der Deckelstab befindet sich über dem Garniturstreifen und liegt mit der Garnituraufnahmefläche auf dem Garniturstreifen auf. Der Deckelstab wird über den Steg auf den Garniturstreifen und damit gegen das Aufnahmemittel gepresst und festgehalten. Die dazu notwendige Presskraft wird vorteilhafterweise über einen Pressionsschlauch erzeugt. Baugleiche Pressionsschläuche werden als Antrieb für die Pressstempel eingesetzt. Die Bewegung der Pressstempel erfolgt geführt. Die Führung der Bewegung kann durch eine entsprechende Anordnung von Rippen am Deckefuss erfolgen. Es ist auch denkbar, dass eine Führung der Pressstempel durch geeignete Mittel in der Vorrichtung selbst erfolgt, beispielsweise durch Schienen oder Stangen, welche eine Bewegung des Pressstempels aus einer parallel zur Garnituraufnahmefläche liegenden Ebene verhindern.
Ein Pressionsschlauch ist ein flexibles Gebilde, beispielsweise ein Gewebe oder eine verstärkte Kunststofffolie, welches in einem Gehäuse angeordnet ist. Der Pressionsschlauch wird mit einem Druckmedium gefüllt und unter einen bestimmten Überdruck gesetzt. Als Druckmedium eignet sich Druckluft oder eine hydraulische Flüssigkeit. Durch die Druckbeaufschlagung dehnt sich der Pressionsschlauch aus, bis er die Grösse seines Gehäuses erreicht. Werden durch die Gehäusewand Kolbenstangen eingeführt, werden diese durch den Pressionsschlauch nach aussen geschoben.
