Description

The invention relates to a double reed for wind instruments, consisting of two substantially identical reeds of plastic, which are connected to each other along their longitudinal edges, wherein the two reed blades each consist of an instrument-side mounting portion and an adjoining leaf portion, the reeds in the region of the attachment portion a have substantially semicircular shape, and wherein in the region of the blade portion, the upper sides of the reeds are curved slightly outwardly in cross-section and leave the reed blades at its free end between them a narrow, curved air gap, and wherein the reeds have stiffening elements made of plastic, the extend substantially over the entire length of the blade portion, as well as the use of such a double-tube sheet.

Numerous wind instruments use mouthpieces with tone-forming tongues, which are vibrated by a stream of air. A distinction is made between single and double tube sheets. Single-reed sheets are used in particular for mouthpieces of clarinets and saxophones, whereas woodwind instruments such as oboes and bassoons, but also bagpipes, double-reed sheets use.

The quality of the reeds is subject to high demands. Due to their sonic properties, the reed blades have hitherto been produced in a complex manual production process mainly from natural material (reed). However, natural cane leaves have the disadvantage that their function is changed by the use, the humidity and the temperature. In addition, such reeds must be recorded to them to the adapt desired vibration behavior. As the material ages, the life of the reeds of natural material is also limited.

Therefore, in the DE 25 21 472 B2 have already described tongues or blades for use in musical wind instruments such as oboes and bassoons, in which the tongues made of natural tube material are replaced by those made of plastic. However, since the construction and the manner of manufacturing such plastic pipe sheets is similar to the construction of natural pipe sheets, there are disadvantages due to the physical properties of the plastics used.

The documents US 2,388,822 A1 and US 2,374,579 A1 disclose an embodiment of plastic double-tube sheets, wherein an outer sleeve holds the two tabs together, and additionally provides a good seal of the double-tube sheet with the inner sleeve.

So far, the two tube sheet tongues are placed around a metal sleeve and attached by means of an external thread winding at this in the production of double tube sheets. By incorporating, i. the application of the thread and the resulting tension is the reed reshaped so that it wraps around the metal sleeve. The case acting on the reeds tension has an influence on the vibration behavior of the clay-generating blade portion of the reed blades. In order for the reed blades to oscillate freely, the thread must be locked at a precisely defined distance from the edge of the sleeve. If the end of the thread winding deviates only slightly from an optimum position to the edge of the sleeve, problems arise with sound, intonation and playing pressure of the reed.

The tension of the thread in conjunction with the optimum position to the sleeve edge causes a deformation of the lying below the winding tongue material and creates a voltage curve that acts up in the reed tip and affects the functioning of the double-tube significantly.

Even with the integration of a plastic double-tube sheet, a deformation / displacement of the plastic takes place due to the thread tension. However, since plastic behaves differently in comparison to the reed material, this connection method creates new, additional problems. Even with plastic tongues a well-defined distance to the sleeve must be kept in order to get no sound impairments.

Object of the present invention is therefore to provide a double reed for wind instruments of the type mentioned above, which combines the advantages of the double tube sheets made of natural material in terms of their sonic properties and the advantages of synthetic double reed leaves in terms of their insensitivity to mechanical stresses and at the same time a simple, secure and reproducible production allows.

This object is achieved in that in the transition region between the mounting portion and the blade portion on the upper side of the reeds a shoulder is formed, which forms a stop for a slidable from the instrument side end of the reeds on the superimposed reeds sleeve, which in shape the two superimposed Rohblattzungen is adapted, and that the two pipe blade tongues are positively connected to each other in the region of the fastening portions by the sleeve applied from the outside. The paragraph defines a stop, to which the sleeve is pushed over the plastic tube sheets and fastened there. This achieves a clear reproducibility of the vibration behavior of the reed blades. The inventive construction and arrangement of the sleeve makes it possible to hold together and stabilize the plastic tube blade tongues over a large area. In addition, the sleeve produces a defined pressure on the slightly curved in the longitudinal direction plastic tube blade tongues, which closes and seals the side edges of the adjoining tube sheet tongues.

Characterized in that the pipe blade tongues are joined together exclusively by the outer sleeve, the known connection between the reeds and the musical instrument in the form of an inner sleeve is replaced according to the invention by an exclusively influenced by the shape of the reeds ventilation air.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the stiffening elements provided in the region of the blade section are designed as reinforcing ribs extending in the longitudinal direction of the tube blade tongues. These reinforcing ribs are advantageously formed by (carbon fiber) rods or springs, which are embedded in the longitudinal direction in the base material of the reed. Due to the pressure generated by the outer sleeve, transmitted by the rods or springs embedded in the reinforcing ribs, a defined pretension is created in the entire blade section, which influences the vibration behavior of the reed blade tongues.

So that the plastic tube blade tongues are not deformed during production and use and to ensure a reproducibility of the connection, the sleeve should, according to the invention, consist of a dimensionally stable material, in particular a metallic material.

In order to ensure a secure connection of the sleeve with the two pipe blade tongues, the sleeve is preferably glued to the pipe blade tongues.

The airtight seal between the tube sheet halves can be inventively improved by having a very minimal curvature in the longitudinal direction.

The connection between the double-reed and the wind instrument is made in accordance with the usual manner of attachment, that at the lower end of the double reed a the lower portion of the sleeve and / or the downwardly projecting mounting portion of the reeds cross-thread thread winding or a cork are attached.

A special use is the double-reed according to the invention as a bagpipe double reed, especially for the whistle of the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipes.

The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to an embodiment which is shown in the drawing. All described and / or illustrated features alone or in any combination form the subject matter of the invention, regardless of their summary in the claims or their back references.

This in Fig. 1 shown double reed 1 consists of two identical, superimposed reeds 2, 3 of a plastic composite material. The shape and size of the double-reed sheet largely corresponds to the shape and size of the conventional double-reed sheets of natural material, in particular reed. In the plastic material carbon fiber rods 4 are inserted in the longitudinal direction of the tube blade tongues, which, as from Fig. 2 can be seen, are formed on the surface of the pipe blade tongues 2, 3 as webs. These reinforce the reed tongues. Thus, they cause a higher bending moment of the tube sheet tongues 2, 3 in the longitudinal direction. At the same time they influence their vibration behavior.

The two pipe blade tongues 2 and 3 are connected by a metal sleeve 5 and stabilized. The sleeve 5 is pushed from the instrument-side end 6 of the double tube sheet 1 on the two superimposed pipe blade tongues and comes to a formed on the top of the pipe blade tongues 2 and 3 as a stop paragraph 7 to the plant. The paragraph 7 is arranged in the transition region between the mounting portion 8 and the oscillating blade portion 9 of the reed blades. The exact fit of the sleeve 5 results in a defined pressure on the tube sheet tongues 2, 3. As a result, the side edges 10 of the mutually lying pipe blade tongues 2 and 3 are securely closed and sealed.

How out Fig. 2 can be seen, the tops of the reeds 2 and 3 in the region of the blade portion 9 in cross-section slightly curved outwardly, so that the reeds leaves at its free end 11 between them a narrow, curved air gap 12 between them. In addition, the pipe blades have tongues 2, 3 extending in the longitudinal direction of reinforcing ribs 13, in which the carbon fiber rods or springs 4 are embedded.

Fig. 3 shows that the tube sheet tongues 2, 3 in the region of the attachment portion 8 have a substantially semicircular shape. The tubular sleeve tongues 2, 3 in the attachment section 8 outside embracing metal sleeve 5 is adapted in shape to the two pipe blade tongues 2 and 3 and stabilizes the superimposed pipe blade tongues. For secure attachment of the sleeve 5 to the double tube sheet 1, this is firmly connected by gluing with the tube sheet tongues 2, 3.

At the lower end of the attachment portion 8, a traditional filament winding 14 is provided, which allows the insertion and adjustment of the double-reed 1 in a musical instrument, not shown.

The shape of the pipe blade tongues 2 and 3 is the shape of the previously used pipe blade tongues of natural material with the arranged between the pipe blade tongues sleeve modeled. These differ depending on the musical instrument. Thus, the double reeds can be used not only for oboes and bassoons, but also as a bagpipe double reed, especially for the whistle of the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipes. The air flow is also determined in this case by the design of the double tube sheet 1. The visually striking outer metal sleeve 5 connects and stabilizes the superimposed pipe blade tongues form fit.

  2. The double reed according to Claim 1, characterised in that the air guidance in the double reed is exclusively influenced by the shape of the reed tongues (2, 3).
  3. The double reed according to one of Claims 1 to 2, characterised in that the reinforcing elements provided in the region of the blade portion (9) are formed as reinforcing ribs (13) extending in the longitudinal direction of the reed tongues (2, 3).
  4. The double reed according to Claim 3, characterised in that the reinforcing ribs (13) extending in the longitudinal direction are arranged on the outer face of the reed tongues (2, 3).
  5. The double reed according to Claim 3 or 4, characterised in that the reinforcing ribs (13) are formed from (carbon fibre) rods and/or springs (4) which are embedded in the base material of the reed tongues (2, 3) in the longitudinal direction.
  6. The double reed according to one of Claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the sleeve (5) consists of a dimensionally stable material, in particular a metal material.
  7. The double reed according to one of Claims 1 or 6, characterised in that the sleeve (5) is fixedly connected to the reed tongues (2, 3), in particular by adhesive bonding.
  8. The double reed according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the reed tongues (2, 3) have a curvature in the longitudinal direction.
  9. The double reed according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that a thread winding or a cork encompassing the lower portion of the sleeve and/or the downwardly protruding fastening portion (8) of the reed tongues (2, 3) are attached to the lower end of the double reed (1).
