Description

  • The present invention relates to a helmet with a front air intake, and in particular a helmet provided with a cap and an air intake located in a front portion of the cap and suitable for being located in front of the mouth of a user.
  • Known helmets comprise a front air intake having an opening covered by a grille. Since the air intake is near the mouth of the user and incoming air is breathed by the user, it is advisable to clean the grille frequently and thoroughly. This operation can be difficult, and can damage the inside of the helmet if cleaning liquid is absorbed by the helmet padding and/or lining material. Moreover, said operation can cause further problems when said liquid contains solvents that can corrode the cap or other parts of the helmet.
  • DE 19824605 describes a helmet wherein the grille is fastened integrally or in one piece in a frame that can be removed from the air intake to replace a filter located behind the grille. Given the specific one-piece joining between frame and grille, the latter cannot be easily replaced without changing also the frame.
  • Therefore, object of the present disclosure is to provide a helmet free from such drawbacks. Said object is attained by a helmet whose main features are specified in the first claim, while other features are specified in the remaining claims.
  • Thanks to its peculiar structure, the air intake of the helmet according to the present invention can be disassembled by the user in an easy and quick way before cleaning it, thereby keeping the cleaning liquid away from the other parts of the helmet, without compromising a stable fastening of the grille onto the helmet.
  • Preferably, the grille of the air intake is a perforated plate individually manipulable or structurally independent from the first frame, so that it may be separated from the latter for a more thorough cleaning, or be made of a material stronger and/or easier to clean. By this contrivance, the grille may also be replaced by another grille with holes having different shape, size and/or positions, so as to vary the flow of air through the air intake. The grille may also be replaced by a closed plate or cover, so as to close the air intake if necessary.
  • The first frame is applied to a second frame and it is fastened into a respective hole or recess of the cap, or rather it is fastened to the front portion of the helmet, so as to involve a limited portion of the helmet during the assembling and disassembling of the air intake, with no damage. The grille is located between the first frame and the second frame.
  • The second frame acts as female coupling for the first frame, so that the first frame is not directly fastened to a hole made in the cap.
  • The second frame entails the advantage of being able to overcome any inaccuracies of shape of the hole or recess of the cap, which is typically made of fiber and would be less than suitable for a direct coupling of the first frame. Therefore, the presence of the second frame allows to attain a firm and functional fastening of the first frame on the helmet and a removal of the first frame in case of need, e.g. for cleaning the grille, at once.
  • Actually, the second frame allows to implement more complex coupling geometries with the first frame than a direct connection to the cap.
  • In an embodiment, to further ensure firmness of fastening between the first frame and the second frame, both are made of plastic material and are moulded with a suitable shape and form for the respective coupling.
  • In one embodiment, the second frame is heat-sealed to the cap when it is fastened to the cap. Alternatively, the second frame is screwed to the cap. Both solutions allow to attain stability of anchoring of the second frame to the cap.
  • The helmet according to the present invention entails the further advantage that it may also be easily assembled at a production site, thereby reducing manufacturing costs and times.
  • Other advantages, features and operation steps of the subject-matter of the present disclosure will be made evident in the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof, given by way of example and not for limitative purposes. However, it is evident how such embodiment example may entail one or more of the advantages listed above.
  • It is also to be understood that all possible combinations indicated in the foregoing embodiments, and of that described with reference to the following detailed description, fall within the scope of the present disclosure.
  • Reference will be made to the figures of the annexed drawings, wherein:
    • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a front air intake of a helmet;
    • Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the air intake of Figure 1;
    • Figure 3 shows an exploded rear view of the air intake of Figure 1; and
    • Figure 4 shows a vertical sectional view of the air intake of Figure 1.
  • Referring to Figures 1 to 4, a helmet according to the present invention, partially illustrated in the drawings and denoted by reference number 100, comprises a cap 20 and a front air intake 1 located in the front part of the cap 20 and suitable for being located in front of the mouth of a user wearing the helmet 100. The air intake 1 is provided with at least one opening 2, covered at least partially by at least one grille 3.
  • The helmet 100 comprises a first frame 4 applied in a removable manner, i.e., detachable, around the opening 2 and the grille 3, and a second frame 7 fastened to the cap 20 around the opening 2. In practice, the second frame 7 is located directly on the cap 20, whereas the first frame 4 is located above the second frame 7, on the opposite side with respect to the cap 20.
  • In particular, the grille 3 is located between the first frame 4 and the second frame 7.
  • In the embodiment illustrated, the grille 3 comprises a perforated plate surrounded by the first frame 4.
  • The grille 3 is preferably a structurally independent member; therefore it can easily be separated from the first frame 4 when the latter is not applied to the cap 20.
  • In the present embodiment, the first frame 4 is applied by means of one or more hooks 5 snap-fitted into complementary seats 6.
  • In the example, the complementary seats 6 are made in the second frame 7.
  • Also the second frame 7 is preferably a member structurally independent with respect to the grille 3, and it is fastened around the opening 2 by means of one or more pins 8 fitted and glued or welded into matching holes made in the cap 20.
  • At least one cross-piece 9 connects two sides of the second frame 7.
  • A filter 10 made of spongy or fibrous material is located between the grille 3 and the second frame 7. Moreover, the second frame 7 is provided with at least a notch 11 or clearance hole located beside a complementary seat 6 in order to reach from the outside and bend with a finger or tool the hook 5 fitted into this seat, thereby helping the uncoupling of the first frame 4.
  • The first frame 4, the grille 3 and/or the second frame 7 are preferably convex toward the inside of the helmet and/or are higher than wide, in order to improve the aerodynamics and/or the aesthetics of the air intake.
  • The first frame 4 and the second frame 7 are preferably made of moulded plastic material, whereas the grille 3 is preferably made of metal, in particular aluminium or titanium.
  • Possible variants and/or additions to the embodiment of the invention described and illustrated herein may be effected by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the following claims.
