Definitions
- the invention relates to a warhead with cylindrical active charge comprising a tubular and at least one part holder with a plurality of recesses with pellets, which is disposed within a fragment-forming shell of the warhead, wherein the holder consists of a detonation front strongly attenuating material.
- the warhead can be switched for use against various objectives regarding its mode of operation during the approach to the target.
- the search head integrated in the warhead determines the target type and derives the optimal mode of action.
- the warhead can be switched between the different modes of action depending on the design of the warhead.
- EFP Explosively Formed Projectile
- the DE 102 27 002 A1 describes a disassembly charge for a warhead with a splitter-forming main charge, wherein the main charge is assigned a further charge with an occupancy.
- the further charge can be moved or pivoted in the direction of the main charge and serves to adjust the performance of the warhead in a wide range.
- an active charge in which a plurality of recesses is arranged in a holder made of highly damping material, which are filled with explosives.
- the holder is rotatably repositioned for the purpose of aligning the effective direction of the effective charge on the target. An optional generation of different fragment shapes is not possible.
- EFI detonators Explosive Foil Initiator
- the advantage of the high degree of flexibility in use is compensated by the disadvantage of high costs.
- the manufacturing costs of the EFI detonators are not low, furthermore a significant number of these detonators per warhead is needed.
- the integration of the EFI detonators in the explosive charge increases the effort in terms of functionality and in a special way also in terms of security considerably.
- the EFI detonators require a high voltage of a few kilovolts.
- the voltage and power supply on board the warhead also greatly increases the effort and thus the cost of the product.
- a missile is described with a target-specific switchable warhead, which works exactly according to the described method.
- the principle used here for adjusting the mode of action of the warhead during the target approach is based on the acquisition of the target data by means of an optical seeker head and the definition of the target derived therefrom.
- the target species determines which of the EFI detonators are detonated to generate a specific projectile or splitter when the active charge is triggered.
- pellets This term has long been for a compact, usually cylindrical body known, which consist for example of a pressed explosive charge or of another material.
- An embodiment of the invention consists in that a tubular holder consisting at least of one part with a plurality of distributedly arranged pellets is arranged within a fragment-forming casing of the warhead and surrounds at least part of the active charge.
- a tubular holder consisting at least of one part with a plurality of distributedly arranged pellets is arranged within a fragment-forming casing of the warhead and surrounds at least part of the active charge.
- the holder consists of a material which acts on a detonation front strongly attenuating, wherein at least a part of the holder with the pellets disposed thereon with respect to the effective charge or the envelope is repositionable or completely removable.
- the holder may also consist of at least two coaxial with each other and mutually repositionable parts.
- the arranged in the holder pellets can consist of both explosives and damping material, the pellets may have different sizes on different parts of the holder. Even with this measure, the effect of the holder on the fragmentation can be influenced in a comprehensive manner.
- the possibility of switching the mode of action is not limited to axially acting charges. It can also be used for the controlled generation of splinters with the help of fragmentation charges.
- FIG. 1 illustrated the principle of such an application.
- the splinter charge has a non-pre-stamped shell 10 made of metal.
- the active charge in the casing is made up of two parts 1a and 1b, between which the holder 2 for the pellets 3a consisting of explosive material is arranged.
- the holder does not necessarily have to extend over the entire length of the active charge.
- FIG. 2 a holder is shown, which is cut laterally, wherein the two halves 2 c and 2 d additionally pellets 13 a, 13 b have different sizes and different arrangement.
- this example holders with any variations of pellet patterns and can be used generated by number of sections. In this way, different splitter sizes and splinter shapes can be formed.
- FIGS. 3a and 3b An increase in the flexibility of this type of charge is possible in that at least two concentric nested and mutually movably mounted parts of the holder are provided, as shown in the FIGS. 3a and 3b shown by various embodiments.
- similar or different transit times of the components of the detonation wave are also achieved here, which ultimately results in a changeover of the mode of action of the charge.
- the size of the splitter can be selected in a targeted manner in order to then focus on the target.
- the coarse pellet pattern on the lower part 2d of the holder can be turned into a position directed towards the target, if the target can be optimally fought with large splinters.
- the thickness D of the holder 2 can be used in conjunction with the selected material parameters, the time difference of the two fronts of the detonation wave after passing through the holder 2 on the pellets or the Control pellet holder.
- a time difference of typically a few microseconds is sufficient to bring about the desired detonation wave superposition and pressure increase.
- a thickness of the support of the order of about 10 mm meets this requirement.
- the explosive pellets must consist of an explosive that is easily initiated and has a short start-up distance to the detonation.
- Seismoplast (DynaEnergetic), which has a high content of nitropenta, has proven successful in experiments.
- This explosive is also characterized by a small critical diameter, which results in the advantage that the pellets need only have a small actual diameter. Thus, all necessary arrangements for achieving desired decomposition patterns can be produced without further restrictions.
