Definitions

  • the present invention refers to a laundry washing machine.
  • washing machines both “simple” washing machines (i.e. washing machines which can only wash and rinse the laundry) and washing-drying machines (i.e. washing machines which can also dry the laundry), usually comprise an external casing provided with a loading/unloading door which allows the access to a washing tub containing a rotary perforated drum in which the laundry to be washed can be loaded.
  • the tub is typically substantially cylindrical, and is provided with an opening for loading/unloading the laundry.
  • the opening for loading/unloading the laundry is provided on a frontal base of the tub, and the drum is associated to the tub by means of a rotating shaft which is supported by suitable bearings associated to a rear base of the tub.
  • the shaft typically protrudes out of the tub, so as to be connected, directly or by means of a suitable belt pulley, to an electric motor adapted to rotate the drum.
  • the washing tub of a front-loading washing machine is produced in a two-pieces construction, i.e. a front shell (comprising the frontal base and part of the lateral surface of the tub) and a rear shell (comprising the rear base and the rest of the lateral surface of the tub), by injection moulding of plastic material; the two shells are joined together by using known means, e.g. screws.
  • reinforcing ribs are integrally provided, so as to increase the strength of the structure; typically the ribs are arranged both circularly and radially in respect to the central portion of the rear wall.
  • a passing through hub (which may be metallic or plastic) is provided at the centre of the rear base for supporting the bearings of the rotating shaft; in many cases the hub is made with a core of cast iron, and is over injected by the plastic material.
  • the opening for loading/unloading the laundry is provided on a lateral surface of the tub, and the rotatable drum is supported by bearings usually distributed between the front base and the rear base of the tub.
  • EP 1 538 252 discloses a plastic tub for a clothes washing machine, in particular a washing machine of front-loading type, comprising a front shell and a rear shell, the rear shell being formed by a cylindrical envelope (or lateral surface) and a rear wall (or base) provided with reinforcing ribs.
  • a passing through hub is provided at the centre of the rear wall for supporting the bearing of a central shaft by means of which a clothes containing drum is driven into rotation within the tub; the hub is made by cast iron over injected by plastic material.
  • the rear circular wall of the rear shell is shaped with a plurality of ribbed circular sectors alternatively oriented in opposite axial direction, and at least one circular crown of radial ribs is provided around the hub.
  • the tub structure results with a reduced and constant thickness of the rear part of the tub, so as the injection moulding cycle for producing it is correspondingly reduced.
  • the convex and concave areas present at the rear wall of the tub generates turbulence also in the air movement during the spinning phase, which results in an increasing of the noise also during such a phase, and in an higher energy consumptions in the electric motor which rotates the drum.
  • washing liquid tends to collect in the concave areas present on the rear wall, and there is the risk that the rinsing water can't remove such liquid; these washing residues favour the proliferation of bacteria and/or scale, with the consequent production of bad odours.
  • CN201236285 discloses a water-leakage prevention device of a barrel washing machine, which comprises a tripod, a rotating shaft and an obturating ring, wherein a through hole used for installing the rotating shaft is arranged in the middle position of the tripod; the tripod used for supporting an internal barrel of the barrel washing machine is sleeved on the rotating shaft through the through hole; the obturating ring is arranged at the joint part between the tripod and the rotating shaft; a first convex rib is arranged at the periphery of the through hole of the tripod; and a second convex rib which is adapted with the first convex rib is arranged on the circumference of the obturating ring.
  • EP0595040 discloses a clothes washing machine, in particular of the household type, comprising a tub which containing a perforated drum which is formed by an outer cylindrical mantle, a rear plate and an open front wall and is supported by a spider journal, wherein said drum is moulded as a single piece by a blow-moulding process in which said outer cylindrical mantle of the drum is formed so as to create a plurality of trapezoidally shaped concave ribs.
  • the drum has a peripheral rim protecting from the outer portion, in particular from the front outer portion of the cylindrical mantle near the opening, so as to strengthen the structure and enable it to stand the highest expected load stresses. To the peripheral rim appropriate extensions of the arms of the spider journal are fastened.
  • EP1619286 discloses a drum type washing machine including a tub installed in a cabinet.
  • the drum type washing machine includes a drum performing washing, a motor rotating the drum, bearing housings having bearings to support a rotation shaft, a suspension connected to the bearing housings and the cabinet to mitigate vibration generated during rotation of the drum, a bracket installed to the bearing housings to form the rear side of the tub, and a gasket installed between the bracket and the tub to seal the tub and to prevent vibration from being transmitted from the bracket to the tub.
  • Volumes of the tub and the drum can be easily increased without increasing the volume of the cabinet. Even when the volume of the washing machine is changed, only one of the tub and the bearing housings, which is not applicable to the drum type washing machine having the changed washing capacity, is selectively replaced. Thus parts can commonly used in various drum type washing machine having different volume.
  • JP2007061542 discloses a washing machine with a heated washing process for conducting washing process by heating the washing water by controlling a heater.
  • WO2008010674 discloses a drum washing machine including a tub installed in a housing to receive wash water therein, a drum rotatably installed in the tub, a rotor having a rotating shaft connected to the drum, a bearing housing having at least one bearing for supporting the rotating shaft of the rotor, the bearing housing being located at the tub, and a stator spaced apart from the rotor by a predetermined distance and directly connected to the tub.
  • FR2921079 discloses a washer having a door which is installed on a shell.
  • An outer side drum is installed at inner side of the shell.
  • a rotary roller is installed in the outer side drum.
  • a stealing pad is installed between an inlet of the shell and the outer side drum for stealing the door and the outside drum.
  • a heating component i.e. heater is installed for removing water left in bottom of the inner side of the sealing pad. The heating component is started by hand or automatically during washing.
  • WO2008102396 discloses a washing machine tank, of the type provided with a basically cylindrical structure obtained by moulding plastic materials, designed to house a rotary metal drum, characterised in that it is provided with a smooth bottom wall with central hole, against which a circular cap is exactly engaged and permanently fixed with concavity facing the bottom wall, with a cylindrical nozzle in central position designed to be perfectly aligned with the central hole of the bottom wall.
  • the aim of the present invention is therefore to increase the mechanical resistance of the tub of a washing machine, assuring at the same time a low level of noise and a reduced risk of formation of washing residues.
  • Another object of the invention is to increase the volume internal to the drum of a washing machine without excessively increasing the external dimensions of the washing machine.
  • Another object of the invention is to reduce the weight of a wsahing machine without reducing the mechanical performances.
  • the Applicant has found that by making the internal surface of the rear base of the tub substantially smooth and substantially convex, it is possible to increase the mechanical resistance of the tub, assuring at the same time a low level of noise and a reduced risk of formation of washing residues.
