    a plurality of toothed segments (5a-5f) which are movable to and fro in the direction of the axis of rotation and/or parallel to the axis of rotation of the gear wheel are arranged over the circumference of the gear wheel (3),
    - wherein the teeth or tooth spaces of each toothed segment (5a-5f) and the gear wheel (3) can be brought into engagement without play and
    - wherein in relation to a first toothed segment (5a) which can be brought into engagement, all the other toothed segments (5b-5f) which can be brought into engagement are each arranged offset by a different fraction of the pitch (7) of gear wheel (3) and toothed segment with respect to the first toothed segment (5a).
  2. The locking system according to claim 1, characterised in that the tooth flanks of toothed segment (5a-5f) and gear wheel (3) contact each other two-dimensionally.
  3. The locking system according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the teeth or teeth spaces of each toothed segment (5a-5f) arranged so that it can move to and fro in the direction of the axis of rotation of the gear wheel can be brought into engagement with the front-side active tooth system (4) of the gear wheel (3) without play.
  4. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the teeth or teeth spaces of each toothed segment arranged so that it can move to and fro parallel to the axis of rotation of the gear wheel can be brought into engagement with the axially active tooth system (4) of the gear wheel (3) without play.
  5. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the axially active tooth system (4) is a crown gear tooth system.
  6. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the to and fro movement (8) of the ind-vidual toothed segments (5a-5f) is accomplished by means of linear drives.
  7. The locking system according to claim 6, characterised in that each linear drive is a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder.
  8. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that a plurality of toothed segments (5) which can be brought into engagement in the front-side tooth system (4) are arranged adjacent to one another in the axial direction of the axis of rotation of the gear wheel (3) and over the circumference of the gear wheel (3) offset to one another by a fraction of the pitch.
  9. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterised in that a plurality of toothed segments (5) which can be brought into engagement in the axially active tooth system are arranged adjacent to one another parallel to the axis of rotation of the gear wheel (3) and over the circumference of the gear wheel (3) offset to one another by a fraction of the pitch.
  10. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that two toothed segments (5) which are arranged opposite to one another without any pitch offset can be brought into engagement.
  11. The locking system according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that each toothed segment (5) is arranged adjustably about the axis of rotation of the gear wheel (3) in the circumferential direction.
