The object of the present invention is to develop a generic knitted sock in such a way that it provides an elegant appearance for the wearer in addition to its known effects at least one more positive, especially health-promoting effect.

This object is achieved by a knitted stocking with the features of claim 1.

The present invention is based on the finding that a particularly elegant, high-quality appearance results when mercerized cotton is used to knit the stocking. This, in addition to its smooth surface unlike combed cotton, which is supple and soft, has the property of being particularly smooth and stiff.
