Description

The invention relates to a connector assembly, comprising a connector and a mating connector mating therewith, according to the features of the preamble of claim 1.

Connector assemblies comprising a connector and a mating connector mating therewith are known for automotive applications, particularly passenger cars. With this connector assembly signals or power supplies are transmitted, whereby the manufacturers of the vehicles, the size, the shape (in particular the mating face) and the number of contact partners of the draw connector and the associated mating connector are mandatory. It is also of particular importance that such connector assemblies may only fill a given, usually very small space. In addition to these requirements, there is a further requirement that the connector and the plug-together mating connector must be plugged together as possible without effort and thereby reliable. In order to permanently hold the plugged connector assembly together, it is known that the two mated connectors are secured by snap-in connections. These snap-in connections are known and work reliably in the long term, but it should be noted that for the latching process a certain force is applied when mating. In addition, it is necessary to spend a certain force when mating, so that the contact partner of the connector with the contact partner of the Mating connector can be brought into operative connection for the purpose of making electrical contact. In order to be able to ensure a reliable electrical contacting in the long term, it is necessary for the contact partner of the connector and the contact partner of the associated mating connector to be matched to one another (eg contact pin and contact socket), whereby a minimum force must be applied during mating, to z. B. to plug the contact pin to overcome the friction in the contact socket. In sum, therefore, relatively high forces are applied, but this is not readily possible with the given size of the connector and the mating connector plugged together in particular without tools. Since the miniaturization of such connector assemblies in the automotive industry continues to progress and the assembly, ie the mating of connectors and mating connectors, as simple and without tools to be implemented, the previously known solutions are unsatisfactory.

The invention is therefore based on the object, a connector assembly comprising a connector and a mating connector mating therewith to provide for the automotive industry, with which the connector assembly can be further miniaturized, d. H. takes up little space, the forces when mating connectors and mating connectors should be further reduced without the contact reliability deteriorates. In particular, the contact reliability should be increased even for continuous use, while at the same time it must be ensured that a simple assembly is given and the connector and the mating connector remain stuck together.

This object is solved by the features of claim 1. Starting from a connector assembly comprising a Connector and a mating connector mating therewith, wherein the connector and the mating connector each have at least two contact partners and the contact partners of the connector and the mating connector are electrically contacted and arranged in an associated connector housing or mating connector housing, the invention provides that the contact partner of the connector are arranged in each case a contact chamber of a contact partner housing, wherein the contact partner housing in the connector housing which is movable relative to the contact partner housing, and the connector housing facing in the direction of the mating connector and extending into the mating connector housing and extending over the contact partners of the connector and in the has mated state on the contact partner acting tab.

The presence of at least two or more contact partners respectively in the connector and in the mating connector takes into account the fact that the required signals or a voltage supply can be transmitted via the connector assembly.

The mating connector is adapted to receive the required number of contact partners, wherein it is provided in a particularly advantageous manner that in each case a contact partner is arranged in an associated contact chamber in the mating connector housing.

The mating connector has a contact partner housing and a connector housing, which are both formed as separate components of the connector. In this case, the contact partner housing takes in required number and arrangement, the contact partner of the connector on, which are determined for example by means of a latching connection in their contact chamber. About the contact partner housing, the connector housing 4 is movably arranged thereto, wherein it is particularly advantageous that the contact partner housing and the connector housing are relatively movable and formed relative to each other between two end positions latching. This means that the two aforementioned housings are initially produced separately from each other (eg in a plastic injection molding process) and are configured in such a way that the connector housing can in particular be linearly displaced (alternatively rotated) via the contact partner housing, wherein z. B. latching means or the like are present, which cause the connector housing is first arranged in a first position relative to the contact partner housing and force application by shifting (or twisting) from this first end position to another position, in particular a further end position brought can. This arrangement and mode of operation is important for the further arrangement and mode of operation to be described below for solving the problem set out below.

In order to minimize the forces during mating, it is further provided that the connector housing has a extending into the mating connector housing and extending over the contact partner of the connector tab. This tab is not or without action on or at the contact partners of the connector, when the connector housing is in its first end position (Vorverraststellung). This and the corresponding design of the contact partner of the connector causes the connector can be inserted into the mating connector, wherein at the same time with the insertion of the contact partner of the mating connector n the contact partner of the connector is inserted. This is realized, for example, in that the Contact partner of the connector is designed as a contact socket, which has a cross section which is equal to or preferably slightly larger than the contact pin designed as a contact partner of the mating connector. This causes the connector and the mating connector and in particular the two associated contact partners without any effort purposes electrical contacting can be associated with each other. In this mating operation thus only minor forces are applied, namely to introduce the mating face of the connector in the mating face of the mating connector. Only when the contact partner housing with its protruding tab is almost completely in consideration of a still to be described free space in the mating connector, the connector housing is moved relative to the contact partner housing from the first end position to the second end position (in particular shifted), which is effected on the one hand that the connector and the mating connector are fixed detent to each other and on the other causes the tab is deflected under support on the mating connector housing and acts on the contact partners of the connector and also on the contact partner of the mating connector to apply a sufficiently high contact force (normal force) , To apply this contact force, both the connector housing and the mating connector housing can be taken by a fitter in order to move the connector housing relative to the already in the mating connector housing located contact partner housing and connectors and mating connectors on the one hand to lock mechanically and on the other hand, the contact sure. Due to the geometries, in particular the protruding and extending into the mating connector housing tab of the connector housing, the lever effect is advantageously utilized to the required contact forces, ie the pressure forces of Contact partner of the connector to the associated contact partner of the mating connector to apply.

This is realized in an advantageous manner by the invention that high contact forces and the resulting electrical contact safety and the required locking over the life of the connector assembly can also be realized in such connector assemblies in which of the vehicle manufacturers a miniaturization and, above all, a predetermined Plug geometry and a given space are prescribed.

The invention will be explained below with reference to the figures.

The FIGS. 1 (In sectional view) and 2 (in three-dimensional view), as far as shown in detail, a connector assembly having a connector 1 and a mating connector 2. The connector 1 and the mating connector 2 are initially in the unmated state, wherein in FIG. 1 is shown that the mating connector 2 is already brought together in a first position with the connector 1 ( FIG. 1 , left side) and the connector 1 with the mating connector 2 is completely assembled to the required connector assembly ( FIG. 1 , right representation). In this case, the connector 1 in the FIGS. 1 analogous to the illustrations in FIG. 2 shown, namely once in a Vorverrast- and once in a Endverraststellung.

B. mittels Rastverbindungen in ihrer Lage fixiert. The connector 1 has a contact partner housing 3 and a relatively movable, in particular displaceable connector housing 4. In the connector 1, at least two or more contact partners 5, designed here as a female contact, are arranged in unspecified contact chambers of the contact partner housing 3 and z. B. by means Locking connections fixed in position. Similarly, the mating connector 2 also in contact chambers or otherwise attached contact partners 6, wherein the contact partners 6 are arranged in a mating connector housing 7. In the mating connector 2, the contact partners 6 are formed, for example, as contact pins. The contact partners 5, 6 are arranged in a manner known per se at the end of electrical lines, comprising an electrical conductor and a jacket. It does not matter whether it is round cables, flat cables or other types of cables.

The contact partner housing and the connector housing, which are both produced, for example, in a plastic injection molding process, are designed and preassembled such that the contact partner housing 3 is in a first position, in particular an end position, on the connector housing 4. This condition is in FIG. 1 , left, shown. It can be seen that the connector housing 4 in the preassembled state has a extending into the mating connector housing 7 and extending over the contact 5 of the connector 1 tab 8. In this state, the tab 8 is either not at all or with only a small force on the contact partner 5 to this. It follows that the example formed as a contact pin contact partner 6 of the mating connector 2 can be inserted without force in the trained as a female contact partner 5 of the connector 1. At no contact forces are yet to apply, with the required contact security is not yet made. Only when the connector housing 4 of his in FIG. 1 , left, shown first position is moved to a second position, which in FIG. 1 , Right, this movement causes the tab 8 acts on the associated contact partner 4 of the connector 1 and applies the required contact force. That means that as a socket contact trained contact 5 of the connector 1 under application of the described contact force permanently and under pressure to the contact pin 6 formed as a contact partner 6 of the mating connector 2 comes to rest, resulting in the required contact forces and the desired contact reliability. After the connector housing 4 has been moved from its first position to its second position via the contact partner housing 3, not only the required contact forces (normal forces) have been applied to the contact partners, but it is also the connector 1 and the mating connector 2 mechanically interlocked, in particular have been locked so that they remain permanently plugged together, but preferably by appropriate application of force, which does not occur in normal operation, can be separated from each other again.

The reference numerals 9 and 10 denote seals that realize a longitudinal watertightness between the connector 1 and the mating connector 2, wherein the seal 9 is arranged on the mating connector 2 and acts on the contact partner 5 of the connector 1 and the seal 10 between the connector housing. 4 and the contactor housing 3 (or alternatively on the outer jacket of the cable) seals.

The movements already described above and the resulting function is in FIG. 2 once again shown alone for the connector 1, but it is imperative to realize the application of the required contact forces of the mating connector 2 must be present as the tab 8 of the connector 1 according to the invention for supporting the contact forces on the mating connector 2 must be supported.

In FIG. 2 is shown in the left illustration, the first end position, in which the contact partner housing is in a first position to the connector housing 4. After the thus prepared Connector 1 in the in FIG. 2 Mating connector 2, not shown, has been used, the connector housing 4 is moved relative to the contact partner housing 3, so that the tab 8 can act on the contact partner of the connector 1 to apply the required contact forces.

In FIG. 2 Finally, it is shown that the connector 1 may have an additional locking mechanism 11, but need not have. This locking mechanism 11 and an associated locking mechanism on the mating connector 2 cause, in addition to existing locking means, which allow a locking of the connector 1 and the mating connector 2 in the fully mated condition, yet another, ie additional locking is realized to further prevent that the connector assembly dissolves during its operation in the vehicle. In this case, this locking mechanism, also called CPA, is designed so that it can only be actuated by an additional movement when the position is reached, as in FIG. 1 , left, is shown, that is, when the connector 1 is fully inserted into the mating connector 2, the connector housing 4 has been moved from its first position on the contact partner housing 3 in its second position in the direction of the mating connector 2 and the resulting contact forces have been applied are.
