Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a display device for a timepiece, such as a wristwatch, more particularly a display device for civil time and solar time.
  • the time measured and displayed by timepieces is the civil time, also known as “average solar time” or “average time”.
  • the days of civil time have a constant duration of 24 hours.
  • Some watches also measure and display solar time, also known as “true solar time” or “true time”.
  • Solar time takes into account the irregularity of the daily course of the earth on its elliptical trajectory around the sun.
  • the days of solar time have a duration that varies, over a whole year, between about -15 minutes and about +15 minutes in relation to the civil time. The difference between solar time and civil time is called the equation of time.
  • the first type of display In the first type of display, a needle eccentric to the hour and minute hands of the civil time and driven by a time equation cam swivels over a corresponding scale on the dial to display the equation time.
  • An example of this first type of display is described in the document EP 1 286 233 , figure 1
  • This type of display is simple to implement, but it has the drawback of not allowing a direct reading of the solar time, only a value to be added or subtracted from the civil time to deduce the solar time being displayed by the timepiece.
  • a minute hand of solar time is concentric with a minute hand of the civil time and turns continuously above the dial with a gap between these hands which varies depending on the position of a time equation cam.
  • Examples of this second type of display are described in the documents EP 1 637 942 , EP 1 637 941 , EP 1 286 233 and CH 689 359 .
  • This guy The display requires two minute hands and a complicated mechanism to both turn the minute hand of the solar time one turn per hour in synchronism with the minute hand of the civil time and correct, regularly difference between the two needles as a function of the position of the equation of time cam.
  • the present invention aims at providing another type of display, which allows a direct reading of the solar time and which is simple to perform.
  • a display device for a timepiece comprising a fixed part, a rotating needle intended to rotate at a rate of one revolution per hour, a concentric rotary disk with a needle and comprising at least one indication and a disk drive mechanism, characterized in that said mechanism is arranged to drive the disk so that its angular position relative to the fixed part at a given instant corresponds to the difference between the minutes of the solar time and the minutes of the civil time, so that the needle indicates the minutes of the civil time by its angular position relative to the fixed part and simultaneously the minutes of the solar time by its angular position relative to the disc.
  • a single needle is used for the simultaneous display of the minutes of the civil time and the minutes of the solar time.
  • This allows a simple and direct solar time reading.
  • the disc rotates only according to the difference between the minutes of the solar time and the minutes of the civil time, like the eccentric hand of the displays of the equation of time (first type of display above).
  • the drive mechanism can therefore be simple.
  • the drive mechanism includes a time equation cam.
  • the disk may include a scale with which the needle cooperates to display the minutes of solar time.
  • the fixed part may comprise a graduation with which the needle cooperates to display the minutes of the civil time.
  • the display device according to the invention may comprise another rotating hour-indicator needle concentric with said needle.
  • the display device comprises another disk concentric with said disk and whose angular position relative to the fixed part is adjustable, this other disk displaying the hours of a second time zone. in combination with the rotating hour indicator.
  • the present invention also proposes a timepiece comprising a display device as defined above.
  • a display device for a timepiece such as a wristwatch, includes a fixed dial 1 with respect to the movement and the box of the timepiece.
  • the dial 1 has an annular shape and has a graduation of minutes and circular hours 2.
  • the graduation 2 comprises 60 equal divisions spread over 360 ° and is associated with the hour indicator numbers "3", “6", “9” and "12".
  • a pair of hour and minute indicator hands 3, 4 are concentric (coaxial) with the dial 1 and the graduation 2 and turn relative to the dial 1 respectively by two turns per day and one revolution per hour. In the traditional way, the hands 3, 4 thus display respectively the hours and the minutes of the civil time in association with the dial 1.
  • the disc 5 carries a minute graduation 6 associated with the minute indicator numbers "0", "5" , “10” ... "55".
  • the graduation 6 has a circular shape, concentric with the disc 5, and has 60 equal divisions spread over 360 °. Under the action of a drive mechanism which will be described below, the disc 5 moves only according to the difference between the solar time and the civil time. In other words, its angular position relative to the dial 1 at a given instant is representative of said deviation.
  • the "0" of the graduation 6 is opposite the "12" of the fixed graduation 2, as shown in FIG. figure 1 the difference between the minutes of the solar time and the minutes of the civil time is zero.
  • each division of the graduation 6 is aligned with the corresponding division of the graduation 2.
  • the number of divisions of the scale 2 or 6 between this "0” and this "12” corresponds to the number of minutes of difference between the solar time and the civil time.
  • the difference between the minutes of the solar time and the minutes of the civil time can be negative ("0" to the right of the "12"), as represented in the figure 2 , or positive ("0" to the left of "12”), as shown in figure 3 .
  • the disk 5 moves over an angular range of about 180 °, corresponding to a lag between the minutes of the solar time and the civil time minutes ranging from about -15 minutes to about +15 minutes.
  • the reading of the minutes of the civil time and minutes of the solar time is done with the same hand, minute hand 4.
  • the needle 4 displays the minutes of the civil time.
  • the disk 5 and its graduation 6 the needle 4 displays the minutes of the solar time.
  • the hours are read with the hour hand 3 in association with the dial 1, its graduation 2 and its hour digits. So, in the configuration illustrated in the figure 1 , the civil time is 3 hours 26 minutes and the solar time is also 3 hours 26 minutes. In the configuration illustrated in figure 2 , the civil time is 3 hours 26 minutes and the solar time is 3 hours 23 minutes. In the configuration illustrated in figure 3 , the civil time is 3 hours 26 minutes and the solar time is 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • Dial 1 may not have an indication.
  • the disc 5 could comprise only an indication, such as a simple marker, indicating the angular position of the disc 5 relative to the dial 1.
  • the disk 5 and the driving mechanism of the disk 5 are mounted on a plate and form with the latter and the dial 1 a module to fix on a watch movement or on a simple or perpetual calendar mechanism.
  • the dial 1 can be defined by a piece fixed rigidly to the plate or by a flange of said plate.
  • the drive mechanism of the disc 5 could however, alternatively, be integrated with a movement or a date mechanism.
  • the Figures 4 and 5 show an exemplary embodiment of the disk drive mechanism 5, mounted on a plate 7 reported on a movement.
  • a finger 8 coaxial and secured to the wheel hours 9 of the movement turns to because of a turn every 12 hours. Twice a day, this finger 8 rotates a star 10 to 9 teeth subjected to the action of a jumper 11.
  • the axis of the star 10 carries a pinion 12 to 11 teeth integral with the star 10.
  • This pinion 12 drives a wheel 13 to 47 teeth which itself is coaxial and integral with a pinion 14 to 11 teeth which drives a wheel 15 to 54 teeth.
  • a pinion 16 to 23 teeth coaxial and secured to the wheel 15 drives an annual wheel 17 to 365 teeth rotating at a rate of one turn per year.
  • the annual wheel 17 is coaxial and integral with an equation of time cam 18, that is to say a cam whose profile is determined by the difference between the solar time and the civil time at any time. 'one year.
  • a feeler rake 19 pivots at a point 20 and comprises a feeler end 21 which follows the profile of the cam 18 and is kept in contact with this profile by a spring 22 acting on the rake 19, and another end 23 in the form of a sector.
  • toothed which meshes with a pinion 24 to 11 teeth coaxial and integral with a wheel 25 to 55 teeth.
  • a pinion 26 with 10 teeth coaxial and secured to a wheel 27 to 45 teeth is driven by the wheel 25.
  • the wheel 27 meshes with the internal toothing of a ring 28 to 250 teeth which supports the disc 5 to move the disc 5 according to the difference between the solar time and the civil time read on the equation of time cam 18.
  • the disk 5 secured to the ring 28 is angularly offset from the dial 1 by 1/60 th of a lap of offset between the solar time and the time in the clockwise direction when solar time is behind civil time and counter-clockwise when solar time is ahead of civil time. More exactly, the angular position of the disc 5 with respect to the dial 1 is corrected (updated) each time the star 10 is actuated by the finger 8, that is to say twice in 24 hours, and is constant the rest time.
  • the drive mechanism could be modified in a manner that is within the skill of the art to correct the position angular cam 18 and thus the angular position of the disc 5 more or less twice per 24 hours.
  • the wheel 15 is frictionally mounted on its axis and a manual adjustment wheel 29 accessible to the user can be rotated to drive the annual wheel 17 and the cam 18 without rotating the wheel 15.
  • the hour hand 3 (not shown on the Figures 4 and 5 ) is mounted on a barrel 30 of the hour wheel 9.
  • the minute hand 4 is mounted on a barrel of the minute wheel of the movement, which passes through the barrel 30.
  • the drive mechanism of the disc 5 could be controlled by a date mechanism.
  • the elements 8 and 10 to 16 would be removed and the annual wheel 17 could be driven by a pinion coaxial and integral with the star 31 tooth date mechanism, which makes one turn per month.
  • the annual wheel 17 would then have, for example, 120 teeth and the pinion that drives 10 teeth. If the date mechanism is perpetual, the adjustment wheel 29 is not necessary since then the rotation of the star with 31 teeth takes into account the variable duration of the months.
  • the figure 6 shows another embodiment of the invention in which the display device comprises a second rotary disc 31 concentric with the disc 5, the dial 1 and the needles 3, 4.
  • This second disc 31 has hour indicator numbers 32 and its angular position relative to the dial 1 can be adjusted via a manual control member.
  • the disk 31 thus allows the display of the hours of a second time zone. Reading the hours of a first time zone, for example that where the user is located, is performed by the hour hand 3 in association with the dial 1. The hours of the second time zone are read by the hour hand 3 in association with the disk 31.
  • the displayed civil time is 1 hour 31 minutes in the first time zone and 12 hours 31 minutes in the second time zone
  • the solar time displayed is 1 hour 26 minutes in the first time zone and 12 hours 26 minutes in the second time zone.
