In der Vorrichtung werden Werkstücke 1 aus Holz in noch zu beschreibender Weise an zumindest zwei einander gegenüberliegenden Seiten bearbeitet. Die länglichen Werkstücke 1 werden über einen Querförderer 2 quer zu ihrer Längsrichtung zugeführt. Die Werkstücke 1 können zuvor beispielsweise gehobelt oder auf andere Weise bearbeitet sein. Die Werkstücke 1 gelangen vom Querförderer 2 auf Spannwagen 3, auf denen die Werkstücke 1 festgespannt werden. Die Vorrichtung hat mehrere Spannwagen 3, die jeweils für sich einzeln verfahr- und positionierbar sind. Je nach Länge des Werkstückes 1 wird eine entsprechende Zahl von Spannwagen 3 verwendet, um das Werkstück 1 festzuspannen. Da die Spannwagen 3 einzeln in Längsrichtung der Werkstücke 1 bzw. in Vorschubrichtung 6 verfahren werden können, können die Werkstücke 1 je nach Länge und je nach Bereich, wo eine Bearbeitung am Werkstück durchgeführt werden soll, flexibel gespannt werden. Die Spannwagen 3 werden dann mit dem gespannten Werkstück 1 mit synchroner Geschwindigkeit verfahren. Hierbei kann das Werkstück 1 beispielsweise längsbearbeitet oder für eine Bearbeitung positioniert werden. Auf den Spannwagen 3 werden die Werkstücke längs einer Transportbahn 4 transportiert. Die Werkstücke 1 sind so auf den Spannwagen 3 gespannt, dass sie in ihrer Längsrichtung durch die Vorrichtung transportiert werden. In einer ersten Bearbeitungsstation 5 werden die Werkstücke zumindest an ihrer in Transportrichtung 6 rechten Längsseite bearbeitet.In the device,
