Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing printed products by means of a system comprising a control device, at least one printing machine for producing book blocks, at least one transport device for transporting the book blocks and at least one further processing device, in each of which a book block is provided with an envelope.
- the applicant has become known in a method in which the envelopes are supplied to a memory on the way to the processing device.
- the book blocks are each provided with an identification mark. If a book block is detected, the control device requests the associated envelope and supplies it to the processing device.
- either a book block or an envelope is pre-produced on a first printing press.
- the first printing machine sends a signal to the control device, which triggers the pressure of the associated envelope or book block in a second printing press.
- this is first supplied to a temporary storage unit starting from the first printing press.
- the pre-produced envelope is withdrawn from the buffer and transported to a downstream binding station, where it is connected together with the book block to a printed product.
- a disturbance occurs on the way forward of the envelope, then the already running printing of the book block can no longer be prevented.
- the book block must then either be cached until the presence of the associated envelope or ejected from the process.
- rejected book blocks can be brought back into the binding process only with great difficulty. If the buffer is insufficient for buffering, the first and second press must be stopped before the fault is eliminated.
- the invention is based on the object to provide a method of the type mentioned, which makes it possible to produce printed products in short runs up to a printed product more economical. It should be possible to produce the envelopes efficiently and as automated as possible. The orders should be controlled automatically and the process monitored.
- the object is achieved in a generic method in that the envelopes pre-produced, i. produced before the production of the book block and fed to a memory and that the control device triggers the production of a book block due to an envelope supplied to the memory in at least one printing press. Occur in this method on the way the envelope from the envelope printing machine to the memory disturbances, they advantageously have no effect on the production of the associated book block, because the order for the production of the book block is triggered only when the envelope in memory has arrived. In this way, the manufacturing process is more resistant to interference and can therefore be monitored better.
- the envelopes are stored individually in the at least one memory and identified during storage. Therefore, the envelopes of the system need not already be known in the production. Rather, these can also be externally pre-produced at another printing and finally fed to the system via the memory.
- the production of a book block is triggered immediately after identification of an envelope, whereby a relatively faster, time-saving process is guaranteed.
- the controller selects one of the identified envelopes and, based on this envelope, triggers the making of a book block. This results in greater flexibility in the production of the printed products and better utilization of the printing presses.
- the control system is here in particular and preferably a so-called "workflow system” in which the memory forms the control that triggers the production of the book block.
- the memory has a workflow system adapted capacity, ie a corresponding capacity for receiving envelopes.
- the memory should be able to accommodate 50 envelopes plus a security reserve at a lying between the respective printing machine and the corresponding processing processing line with a length of 50 books.
- the transport device ensures that a book block produced on the basis of an envelope in the store is sent to the further processing process within the capacity of the store, ie on time.
- the transport device does not have to have knowledge of the pre- and post-processing processes. Rather, it is sufficient if she knows when taking over a book block, in which further processing device this is to be delivered. In addition, she can be informed about when the book block must be at the destination at the latest. To this end, the transport device can have its own intelligence, which regulates the transport of the book blocks and sets corresponding priorities, which autonomously ensures that a book block reaches the destination in good time.
- a significant advantage of the inventive method is that no book blocks stored and no sequences must be considered.
- the method in which the envelopes are pre-produced and stored in memory and trigger the production of corresponding book blocks allows a system or system in which the individual steps are indeed networked, but can be operated individually by a logical decoupling.
- the memory has a plurality of memory locations from which an envelope can be retrieved at any time and fed to further processing.
- the envelopes can be designed and manufactured very differently. These can be soft cover envelopes or so-called hard covers for hardcover books, which are produced digitally but also conventionally, for example with offset technology.
- the envelopes can be supplied to the storage according to an embodiment of the invention with a feeder. Alternatively, an addition by other means would be possible.
- the system 1 has three printing presses 4, which are preferably digital printing machines.
- the paper to be printed is fed to the printing presses 4 via a rolling device 3, by means of which a paper roll 2 is unwound. But it can also be a not shown, pre-cut single sheets using printing machine connected.
- the printed paper webs are fed in a known manner a folding machine 5 and a cutting and folding device 6.
- a collating device 7 the printed sheets produced in this way are collected, so that finally a book block 8 is present. If it is printed with a single sheet machine, it can have a stacking device, so that no collating device 7 is required.
- the devices mentioned and also the printing press are known to those skilled in the art and therefore need not be explained in detail.
- the number of printing machines 4 is arbitrary per se, thus conceivable is also an embodiment with only one printing press. 4
- the plant 1 also has three envelope production devices 12.
- envelopes 13 (FIG. FIG. 2 ) produced in a conventional manner.
- the envelopes 13 may be formed, for example, digitally printed sheets and as so-called. "Softcover” or "hardcover”.
- the envelope production devices 12 may further include a laminating device.
- a hard blanket also consists of various components known to those skilled in the art.
- a corresponding hardcover process may also be part of such an envelope production device, but need not be directly connected thereto.
- the envelopes 13 may also be supplied externally. How and where the envelopes 13 are ultimately manufactured is not fundamentally essential to the invention. Of course, but a series production must be possible, which makes it possible to provide the necessary envelopes 13.
- the system 1 also has three further processing devices 19, 19 ', which each have at least one memory 16.
- the memories 16 are, for example drum memory with a storage wheel 17 having a plurality of compartments 18, as shown in the EP 1880863 A1 is disclosed.
- the envelopes 13 produced in the envelope producing apparatuses 12 are supplied to these stores 16. This can be done via an investor 27 each. From the envelope production devices 12 to the investors 27, the envelopes 13 are transported by hand or by means of a transport device 14 indicated here by dashed lines.
- the memory 16 and the feeder 27 preferably each form a module and are arranged on or immediately in front of the respective further processing device 19, 19 '.
- investors have 27 means 28 ( Fig. 2 ) for identifying the envelopes 13 which are associated with the respective memory 16.
- These means 28 may comprise, for example, a reading device with which a respective barcode printed on the corresponding envelope 13 is read.
- a reading device with which a respective barcode printed on the corresponding envelope 13 is read.
- other identification elements are conceivable as transponder, magnetic stripe or other elements that can store information instead of barcodes. It is also possible to recognize a plaintext with characters or numbers. If instead of investors 27 other means for supplying the envelopes 13 are used, the means 28 for identifying the envelopes 13 are arranged at these other feeding means.
- the further processing devices 19 each have a binding device 20, a cooling tower 21 or another suitable cooling section, a three-cutter 22 and a delivery 23, on which the finished printed product can be removed.
- the respective book blocks 8 are bound and provided with an envelope 13.
- the binding process can be arbitrary per se.
- the book blocks 8 are fed to the binding device 20 via a transport device 9.
- the supply can take place in the direction of the arrows 11, ie via a side arm of the transport device 9 or also in the direction of the arrows 10, ie in the main delivery stream.
- the transport device 9 has a plurality of acceptance points 25, 25 'on each of which a book block 8 is taken over by the collating device 7 and transported in the direction of the arrows 10, 11.
- controlled transport device 9 may also be formed in all other dimensions and promote the book block 8, for example, up or down. For example, it can identify a book block 8 by means of a reading device and feed it to a predetermined further processing device 19, 19 '. The information regarding the destination can be given to the book block 8, for example in a bar code or a data matrix code, or transmitted by a control device.
- a book block 8 of the receiving station 25 'of the further processing device 19' are supplied.
- the system 1 also has a control device 15 embodied as a control station.
- a control device 15 can also contain a workflow system and thus obtain the book data, production information or process information from a higher-level system.
- a higher-level system is also known to the person skilled in the art as a management information system, MIS for short.
- MIS management information system
- the data of an order can also be entered by an operator at the control room.
- Ordering a print product from a customer or publisher creates an order.
- One such may, for example, contain 1000 printed products with 975 different titles.
- This order is assigned to a production unit or a new production unit is created.
- a production unit may be, for example, an order, a collection of orders or a work shift and is planned with the management information system or entered accordingly on the workflow system or on the control device 15.
- the production unit is preferably pre-sorted by the MIS according to certain criteria or sorted by the workflow system or another suitable system.
- a workflow system located on the control station is responsible for sorting. Such sorting is useful for producing the printed products according to certain criteria, e.g. to group according to the type of paper, according to the folding scheme etc. With sorting, the production unit is defined and saved in this form for later processing of the order.
- the workflow system at the envelope production devices 12 initiates the production of the corresponding envelopes 13, the production order being determined in the production unit. If the envelopes 13 are produced, they are stored, for example, on pallets, on a rack or on carriages, whereby the so-called pre-production is completed.
- the subsequent supply of the envelopes 13 to the memory 16 can either be done automatically via an arranged between the envelope production device 12 and the memory 16 transport device or a machine operator brings the envelopes 13 to the feeder 27 of a memory 16.
- the envelopes 13 are separated, identified with the reading device and fed to the compartments 18 of the storage wheel 17.
- Each envelope 13 is thus identified and assigned to a memory location.
- the envelopes 13 are managed by a controller (not shown) of the memory 16 or the binding device 20, which are each connected to the control device 15.
- the workflow system is continuously reported to which compartment 18 of the memory 16 which envelopes 13 are supplied.
- an envelope 13 As soon as an envelope 13 is known to the workflow system, it triggers the production of a corresponding book block 8 at a suitable printing press 4.
- the control device 15 can also select one of the identified envelopes 13 and trigger the production of a corresponding book block 8 on the basis of this envelope 13.
- the envelope 13 is provided with a readable control code or a recognition feature which, after identification, triggers the production of a book block 8 in a corresponding printing press 4.
- This book block 8 is now produced and transferred to the transport device 9 at a receiving point 25, 25 '.
- the transport device 9 guides the book block 8 of the corresponding further processing device 19, 19 'and regulates the time and the number of machine cycles independently.
- the condition here is that the book block 8 of the further processing device 19, 19 'is supplied before the memory 16 has been circulated once.
- the associated envelope 13 can also be taken from the store 16.
- the envelopes 13 stored in the stores 16 are ready for retrieval at any time, so that an envelope 13 can be supplied to the further processing device 19, 19 'in each processing cycle from the corresponding store 16, no matter where the respective compartment 18 is located. Accordingly, the capacity of the memory 16 is comparatively high designed.
- the control device 15 or the workflow system is informed that the printed product has been successfully produced. Subsequent processes, such as transporting the printed material to a logistics system and shipping, can also be controlled by the workflow system.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing printed products by means of a system comprising a control device, at least one printing machine for producing book blocks, at least one transport device for transporting the book blocks and at least one further processing device, in each of which a book block is provided with an envelope.
For the production of printed products, such as books, brochures, magazines and catalogs, there are known to be various printing and binding methods. It can be used very different types of paper, formats and finishes. Generally, a very high quality is expected. This even if printed products are to be produced digitally in short runs. What is also required is a process with high flexibility, which makes it possible to produce both large print runs and very short runs up to a single print product. Here, the digital printing has proven particularly useful because this technology can print a printed product completely in a sequence. It is also known to carry out the individual production steps of a book production immediately one after the other (inline) and to network. A complicating factor here is that in particular softcover envelopes or hardcover hardcover for the printed products must be pre-produced as a rule, since these processes are generally less suitable for networking. For example, in the manufacture of envelopes release agents such as silicone oils are used, which must volatilize before lamination. This requires a certain lead time.

The invention is based on the object to provide a method of the type mentioned, which makes it possible to produce printed products in short runs up to a printed product more economical. It should be possible to produce the envelopes efficiently and as automated as possible. The orders should be controlled automatically and the process monitored.
The object is achieved in a generic method in that the envelopes pre-produced, i. produced before the production of the book block and fed to a memory and that the control device triggers the production of a book block due to an envelope supplied to the memory in at least one printing press.
For this purpose, the envelopes are stored individually in the at least one memory and identified during storage. Therefore, the envelopes of the system need not already be known in the production. Rather, these can also be externally pre-produced at another printing and finally fed to the system via the memory. The production of a book block is triggered immediately after identification of an envelope, whereby a relatively faster, time-saving process is guaranteed. Alternatively, the controller selects one of the identified envelopes and, based on this envelope, triggers the making of a book block. This results in greater flexibility in the production of the printed products and better utilization of the printing presses.
The control system is here in particular and preferably a so-called "workflow system" in which the memory forms the control that triggers the production of the book block. The memory has a workflow system adapted capacity, ie a corresponding capacity for receiving envelopes. For example, the memory should be able to accommodate 50 envelopes plus a security reserve at a lying between the respective printing machine and the corresponding processing processing line with a length of 50 books. The transport device ensures that a book block produced on the basis of an envelope in the store is sent to the further processing process within the capacity of the store, ie on time.
The transport device does not have to have knowledge of the pre- and post-processing processes. A significant advantage of the inventive method is that no book blocks stored and no sequences must be considered. The method in which the envelopes are pre-produced and stored in memory and trigger the production of corresponding book blocks, allows a system or system in which the individual steps are indeed networked, but can be operated individually by a logical decoupling. Preferably, the memory has a plurality of memory locations from which an envelope can be retrieved at any time and fed to further processing.
The envelopes can be designed and manufactured very differently. These can be soft cover envelopes or so-called hard covers for hardcover books, which are produced digitally but also conventionally, for example with offset technology.
The envelopes can be supplied to the storage according to an embodiment of the invention with a feeder. Alternatively, an addition by other means would be possible.
The object is also achieved by a system according to

The method according to the invention will be explained in greater detail below by way of example.
Ordering a print product from a customer or publisher creates an order. One such may, for example, contain 1000 printed products with 975 different titles. This order is assigned to a production unit or a new production unit is created. A production unit may be, for example, an order, a collection of orders or a work shift and is planned with the management information system or entered accordingly on the workflow system or on the
In a next step, the workflow system at the
The subsequent supply of the
This
After the intended
