  • the present invention relates to a window hinge assembly for mounting a sash carrying a window pane in a frame so that the sash is movable between an open position and a closed position
  • the window hinge assembly comprising a first and a second window hinge adapted to connect the sash at its upper corners to the frame at its upper corners, respectively, and at least one window balance arm adapted to releasably connect the sash and the frame at a distance from said upper corners
  • each window hinge comprising a first mounting bracket to be mounted on the frame, a second mounting bracket to be mounted on the sash and a connecting member that is slidingly connected to the first mounting bracket and pivotally connected to the second mounting bracket by means of a pivot pin, and a releasable connection being provided between the first mounting bracket and the second mounting bracket.
  • JP 2002 138744 discloses window hinge assembly comprising a sliding and pivotal connection between a window sash and a window frame.
  • the hinge assembly comprises, at either side of the window assembly, a track in which a slider is displaceable.
  • the slider is pivotally connected to the window sash, and the track is releasably connected to the window frame by means of two mounting brackets mounted at either end of the slider, respectively, on the window frame.
  • this construction is rather bulky and cannot be combined with a slim window construction.
  • US 5,392,494 discloses a window stay comprising a base to be mounted on a frame, a window support arm to be mounted on a sash and a link arm.
  • the base defines a channel that receives a slider on which one end of the window support arm is pivotally mounted, thereby providing a slidable and pivotal connection.
  • the link arm is pivotally connected to the window support arm and releasably and pivotally connected to the base.

  • the slider of the window support arm is introduced into the channel of the base, and the link arm is connected to the base by means of the pin.
  • the mounting operation may be difficult due to the fact that the channel receiving the slider is open at its ends, so that the slider may escape from the channel during connection of the link arm to the base.
  • the window sash comprising the window pane must be carried by the person fitting the window assembly during the mounting operation, it is difficult to maintain the slider in the channel when manipulating the connection of the link arm to the base.
  • US 6,643,896 discloses a similar window stay, whereby a link arm is pivotally connected to a window support arm and releasably and pivotally connected to a base.
  • the base defines a channel that receives a slider on which one end of the window support arm is pivotally mounted. • the assembly comprises an swivel arm having a first end connected in articulated fashion to the frame and a second end slidably arranged in a guiding groove in the sash, and a scissors lever having a first end pivotally connected to the swivel arm and a second end pivotally journalled in an articulation seat of the sash.
  • the second end of the scissors lever bears an articulation pivot pin which engages in snap-on fashion the articulation seat of the sash.
  • the snap connection procedure comprises three different movements in that firstly, the articulation pivot pin must be positioned at the seat of the sash, and, at the same time, the second end of the swivel arm must be positioned at an insertion opening of the guiding groove in the sash, secondly, the articulation pivot pin must be pressed axially into the seat, whereby a spring metal element is depressed, and, at the same time, the second end of the swivel arm must be pressed into the insertion opening of the guiding groove, and thirdly, the articulation pivot pin must be slidingly displaced in the seat, in order for the spring metal element to snap behind and lock the pivot pin in the seat. Furthermore, disassembly of this snap connection is very complicated, as the spring metal element is hidden inside the seat of the sash.

  • the locking member has the form of an elastic plate element that is attached to the bearing block and covers the insertion channel at least partially, so that, during insertion of the pivot pin into the boring, the pivot pin may bend the elastic plate element and thereby lift part of the elastic plate element away from the bearing block, and so that the pivot pin after insertion may be retained in the boring by means of the elastic plate element. Thereby, locking of the pivot pin in the boring may be performed automatically without any separate handling steps by the person fitting the window.
  • the elastic plate element comprises an inclined section that is inclined relative to the direction of the insertion channel, so that, during insertion of the pivot pin into the boring, the pivot pin may slide against the inclined section of the elastic plate element, thereby bending the elastic plate element and lifting part of the elastic plate element away from the bearing block.
