Nähvorrichtungen der genannten Art sind seit langem bekannt und dienen dazu, die Stoffbahn entweder mit einem weiteren Stoffteil oder beispielsweise unter Bildung eines Umschlages oder eines Saumes mit sich selbst zu vernähen. Der Nähkopf weist eine motorisch angetriebene auf und ab bewegte Nadel auf, die in bekannter Weise einen Nähfaden durch die Stoffbahn treibt. Während des Vernähens der Stoffbahn wird diese nicht nur unter dem Nähkopf hindurchgeführt, sondern gleichzeitig wird durch Verfahren der Auflage die gesamte Stoffbahn in die gleiche Richtung mitbewegt, so dass übermäßige Verwerfungen der Stoffbahn vermieden werden können. Eine Unterbrechung des Nähvorgangs und somit ein Anhalten der Bewegung der Nadel führt in gleichartiger Weise zu einem Anhalten des Traggestells.
