Abstract

A mounting device (10; 100; 200) for hanging furniture is described comprising a substantially flat plate (12; 112; 212) to be fixed to the furniture; and a hooking member (16; 115; 215) associated to the plate and configured to be hung, in use, to a fixed connector (S) on the wall. To avoid disengagement from the fixed connector there are adjustable blocking means (50; 150; 250) adapted to engage the fixed connector below the suspension point of the hooking member, thereby maintaining the hooking member always restrained to the fixed connector.

Description

  • The invention refers to an improved mounting device for hanging furniture.
  • To hang on the wall hanging furniture, e.g. kitchen furniture, particular hanging supports are used having a fastening hooking member to a wall bracket. Through proper adjustments of the hooking member during installation the furniture is placed hanging on the wall perfectly horizontal and sticky.
  • In WO 2004/032681 there is disclosed a mounting device formed by a plate 21 (ibidem, fig. 2) and a hooking member 20 hinged to it at the bottom end thereof about a horizontal axis.
  • EP 0 555 924 describes a mounting device with a plate 111 (ibidem, fig. 11), an associated hooking member 126 to be fixed to a wall bracket, and a mechanism with two screws for adjusting the position in height and in depth of the hooking member 126.
  • In these supports there exists the problem that the hooking member by which the mounting device is hung to the bracket does not guarantee that the former remains hooked without disengagement. If one thinks for example that during a moving or an earthquake the hanging furniture experiences hard shakings, the chance for them to unhook from the bracket while tottering is very high, and this must be absolutely avoided for safety reasons for the people.
  • It is the object of the invention to produce a mounting device of the type described which is able to guarantee a firm hooking to the wall and which prevents accidental disengagement of the piece of furniture.
  • Such an object is achieved by a mounting device comprising
    • a substantially flat plate to be fixed to the furniture;
    • a hooking member associated to the plate and configured to be hung, in use, to a fixed connector (S) on the wall;
    • adjustable blocking means adapted to engage the fixed connector below the suspension point of the hooking member, thereby maintaining the hooking member always restrained to the fixed connector.
  • The blocking means are mounted for being able to move away from the plane of the plate in order to engage the fixed connector below the suspension point of the hooking member.
  • The adjustable blocking means is a threaded dowel located near the hooking member, the dowel being screwable for adjusting the distance of a free end thereof from the plane of the plate, a slide being translatable on the plate with adjustable position and supporting both the hooking member and the threaded dowel.
  • The invention and its advantages will be clearer from the following description of a preferred embodiment, together with the annexed drawings wherein
    • Fig. 1 shows a three-dimensional view of a mounting device according to the invention;
    • Fig. 2 shows a three-dimensional rear view of the device in fig. 1;
    • Fig. 3 shows a lateral cross-sectioned view of the device in fig. 1;
    • Fig. 4 shows schematically a lateral view of a variant of the device in fig. 1 not according to the invention;
    • Fig. 5 shows schematically a lateral view of another variant of the device in fig. 1 not according to the invention.
  • In the figures 1 to 3 a mounting device is indicated by 10, and comprises a plate 12 to be fixed to the back of a piece of furniture (not shown) and a slide 14 which is translatable with adjustable position on it.
  • On the slide 14 there is a hooking member 16 (nearly mushroom-shaped) which works for hooking the mounting device 10 to a connector S fixed on a wall (see fig. 3). The hooking member 16 has a threaded shank 18 screwable in the slide 14 in a direction substantially perpendicular to it (see axis X): by rotating the member 16 its distance (see double arrow F) from the plane of the plate 12 can thus be varied - see also dotted line in fig. 3 - in order to adapt it to the connector S.
  • The slide 14 mounts at an end thereof a dowel 40 screwable in it. The dowel 40 can abut against a strike member 44 provided on the plate 12. By screwing more or less the dowel 40 the body thereof can esc less or more from the body of the slide 14: therefore the minimum distance of the slide 14 from the strike member 44 decreases or increases, and hence the position of the slide 14 on the plate 12 is determined.
  • On the slide 14 there is further mounted a second dowel 50, which is screwable in a threaded passing-through bore which is provided in the slide 14 and has an axis X2 substantially perpendicular to it. The dowel 50 is placed on the slide 14 at an extremity opposite to the dowel 40, and acts to avoid the member 16 from slipping away from the wall connector S.
  • In fact, once the hooking member 16 is hanging to the support S (see fig. 3) the dowel 50 is rotated to let it project more and more from the slide 14. Its free end abuts and/or presses against the support S in a point below the hooking member 16. The force exerted by the dowel 50, the friction and/or a complementary shaping of the connector S make the connector S stay blocked by the dowel 50 on the hooking member 16. The dowel 50 opposes to the lifting of the device 10 (and therefore of the piece of furniture), and hence the constrain with the hooking member 16 is always assured.
  • To allow the access to and the adjustment of the dowels 40, 50, the plate 12 has a rear longitudinal central slot 70, wherein e.g. a screw-driver can be easily inserted (to this aim also the piece of furniture has a corresponding slot).
  • Figure 4 discloses a mounting device not according to the invention. Here a mounting device 100 comprises a plate 112 on which there is hinged a hooking member 115 adapted to be hung to a wall bracket S. Below the suspension point of the member 115 a dowel 150 is placed which is screwable in it along an axis X3. The dowel 150 through unscrewing can thus project more and more from the member 115 and abut against and under the support S. In this position the member 115 stays blocked on the support S under the suspension point of the member 115, and cannot disengage.
  • A mounting device 200 not according to the invention comprises a plate 212 on which is hinged a hooking member 215 adapted to be hung to a wall bracket S. Below the suspension point of the member 215 there is hinged, to the member 215 itself, an oscillating member or hook 250. The oscillating member 250 can freely rotate (see double arrow K) to bring its free end in abutment and joint below the support S, where for instance it can be fastened with one or more blocking teeth. Hence one may note that in this configuration the member 215 becomes blocked on the support S, and it cannot disengage.
  • Also a blocking of the oscillating member 250 in operative position may be accomplished. A system to do this consists in a third threaded dowel (not shown), rotatably mounted on the member 215. The dowel may be screwed in a corresponding female screw in the oscillating member 250 and therefore it regulates the inclination thereof, as well as the opening towards the support S. The position of the dowel and of the female screw may be exchanged, by rotatably placing the former on the member 250 and obtaining the latter in the member 215.
