Dieser Nachteil tritt vor allem bei Einsatz qualitativ hochwertiger PU-Kleber auf, die insbesondere bei der Verwendung von hochwertigen gestrichenen Papieren nahezu zwingend notwendig sind um die erwünschte Haftung in der Klebung sicherzustellen. Broschuren mit freier Rückenbindung dagegen zeigen ein gutes Aufschlagverhalten, jedoch besteht hier das Problem, daß der Buchblock beim Aufschlagen nach vorne auswandert. Dieser schmiegt sich aber beim Schließen der Broschur nicht mehr vollständig an den Umschlagrücken an. Zudem kann der Umschlagrücken die Bewegung des Buchrückens beim Öffnen gerade bei dicken Broschuren nicht vollständig ausgleichen. Die Spanne der Bewegung reicht von der vollen Broschurdicke bis hin zu annähernd einer Nulldistanz bei vollständig geöffneter Broschur.
