From the DE 10 2005 024 507 B3 is a protective helmet with a circumferential module ring protruding having a plurality of spaced apart in the longitudinal direction of the module ring plug-in slots. To plug-in slots complementary plug-in elements are provided with which the functional components can be attached to the helmet. The functional accessories include, for example, visors, ear protection, mask adapter, lamps, infrared or video cameras, power sources, mechanical aids and communication equipment.

Protective helmets usually consist of a hard outer shell and a flexible interior, which serves to adapt the helmet to the different head shapes of the protective helmet wearer. A protective helmet of the type mentioned is an example of the CH 438 755 A out. The interior features a support ring, which rests on the head of the protective helmet carrier.

Gas meters associated with protective equipment in a noxious gas atmosphere are attached as mobile devices to garments or to a belt by means of a bracket. A mobile gas meter with a holder goes by way of example from the DE 198 31 893 C2 out.

The invention has for its object to improve a protective helmet such that a monitoring of harmful gas in the field of vision of the helmet wearer is possible without affecting the wearing comfort.

Die Lösung der Aufgabe erfolgt mit den Merkmalen des Patentanspruchs 1.The object is achieved by the features of patent claim 1.

An advantageous use of a modular gas meter is specified in claim 7.

Advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention will become apparent from the dependent claims.

According to the invention, the gas meter is subdivided into module-like components, such as a power supply module, a display module, an alarm transmitter module and a sensor module as modules in operative connection with each other and thereby position the sensor module so that the gas concentration in the face region of the helmet wearer is detected and evaluated.

The helmet wearer is warned so early, when the mouth or nose area of the face is contacted with a noxious gas atmosphere. The alarm module, which may include both an audible and a vibrating alarm, is preferably mounted near the ears, with the vibrating alarm being transmitted directly to the head. It is particularly useful to attach the alarm module directly to the interior of the helmet.

The power supply module is preferably placed in the middle of the protective helmet to achieve a symmetrical weight distribution. The power supply module is located either directly on the outer shell of the Hard hat or it is attached to the interior.

The visual display of the display module can be integrated, for example, in the form of an LCD display surface in the protective helmet or attached to the protective helmet respirator. Particularly preferably, the display module has a projection unit with which measured values or alarm messages are displayed on a projection surface in front of the user, for example a wall or the floor. Depending on the distance of the projection unit from the projection surface, the projection will enlarge both measured values and alarm messages so that they can be perceived particularly well by the protective helmet wearer. As an alternative to a projection unit, it is also possible to use a laser scanner which writes the measured value to the projection surface in front of the user. The projection surface can also lie within a breathing mask attached to the protective helmet. By projecting the measured value or an alarm message to an area lying in front of the helmet wearer, other persons who are in the vicinity of the helmet wearer can follow the measured values and take note of an alarm message.

The sensor module is preferably fastened in the face region of the helmet wearer. Thus, the helmet wearer is reliably warned as soon as harmful gases reach the inhalation area. This can happen, for example, when the helmet wearer comes with his head in an area laden with noxious gas, for example, when he inspects a pit or a channel.

Advantageously, an operating module is provided in the side region of the protective helmet, which comprises a light ring and an operating button located within the light ring. The light ring is designed so that it can emit light in different wavelength ranges. For example, a light blue color indicates that the gas meter is ready for use. If, in contrast, the illuminated ring lights up in red, this is an indication that the gas concentration has exceeded its limit value. With the control button, alarms or status indicators can be confirmed by the helmet wearer or be reset. The light ring is an additional display component that shows outsiders whether the gas meter carried by the helmet wearer is operational and whether there is a warning condition on the measured gas concentration.

Advantageously, a U-shaped LED module is mounted on the underside of the helmet. This LED module consists of a large number of individual LEDs, which are evenly distributed on the base surface of the LED module. The LED module is an additional display component that can also be used to display alarm or warning conditions.
