Definitions
- Dental treatment instrument with coupling device for transmission of movement and detachable attachment of a treatment tool
- the present invention relates to a dental treatment instrument according to the preamble of claim 1, which has a drive unit and a coupling device which has to transmit a generated by the drive unit movement to a releasably connected to the treatment instrument treatment tool train. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a coupling device for use in such a dental treatment instrument.
- This dental treatment instrument is, in particular, a so-called scaler removal device.
- treatment of the human or animal body or artificial parts thereof with a treatment instrument can be done in different ways. Usually, however, takes place at least partially a contrasting processing of the tissue by means of a corresponding tool.
- rotary tools such as drills or milling cutters can be used as cutting tools, and also files and other such tools whose at least one working surface is areally abrasive can be used.
- the tool is then preferably driven swinging by a vibration drive.
- vibration drives the problem arises that the movement generated by the - often pneumatically or electro-mechanically executed - drive unit must be transferred in an effective manner to the treatment tool.
- a coupling device must be used which allows releasable attachment of the treatment instrument, while ensuring a reliable support and thus transmission of movement.
- the present invention is based on the object of specifying a novel coupling device with the aid of which the coupling between the dental treatment instrument or the drive unit of the treatment instrument and the treatment tool is optimized.
- the transmission of the drive movement should be further improved, on the other hand, however, the handling should be simplified.
- the creation of the connection between the treatment instrument and treatment tool as well as the subsequent release should be simplified.
- the solution according to the invention is based initially on the idea of optimizing the transmission of motion by means of a force-fluid connection between the coupling device and the treatment tool.
- the sleeve-like coupling device initially has a first portion for receiving a tapered, pin-like coupling region of the tool shaft, wherein - as will be specified later - this section has a certain length.
- the coupling device has a second, also cooperating with the tool shank portion which is formed to form a fuse acting in the axial direction.
- this backup which may be formed, for example, in the form of a screw or a bayonet connection is - as will be explained in more detail later - the connection of the tool to the treatment instrument additionally improved. Furthermore, the attachment and detachment of the tool is facilitated, since in the case of a screw or bayonet connection, the backup is also an aid in releasing the tool.
- a dental treatment instrument which has an elongated grip sleeve, a drive sleeve disposed in the drive unit and a front end of the grip sleeve coupling device for transmitting a generated by the drive unit movement to a releasably connected to the treatment instrument treatment tool, wherein the coupling device is sleeve-like and has a first portion for receiving a tapered pin-like coupling portion of the tool shaft and a second, also cooperating with the tool shank portion for forming an axially acting fuse, and wherein the length of the first
- Section of the coupling device is at least the same size as the length of the second section.
- Tool shank is formed.
- the cone angle can in this case be between 0.01 ° and 10 °, preferably in the range between 0.5 ° and 2 °.
- the coupling device may further include a passageway for supplying a treatment medium to the treatment tool.
- a treatment medium for example, in later operation, air and / or water can be conducted to the treatment site.
- the drive unit is - as already mentioned - preferably formed by a vibratory drive.
- the treatment instrument also represents, in particular, a so-called tartar removal device.
- Fig. 1 shows the general configuration of a conventional scaling device
- Fig. 2 shows the side view of a vibration exciter with a coupling device located at the front end for releasably holding a

- Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the front end of the vibrator when the tool tip is released;
- FIG. 5 shows a first variant of a coupling device according to the invention
- Fig. 6 shows a second variant of a coupling device according to the invention.
- Fig. 7 shows the front end portion of the coupling device of FIG. 6 in section.
- Fig. 1 shows first the general configuration of a conventional
- Tartar removal device in which case a coupling between the drive unit and treatment tool is present, as is known from the prior art.
- the main elements of the provided with the reference numeral 1 scaler removal device are an elongated or rod-shaped handpiece 2 with a grip sleeve 3, in the front end region of a holding or
- Coupling device 4 is arranged for holding a treatment tool 5 with a tool shank 5a.
- a vibration drive 6 is arranged, which is intended to cause a vibrational movement of the tool 5.
- the preferably pneumatically or electro-mechanically trained vibration drive 6 has for this purpose a vibration exciter 7, the corresponding operation of the
- the tool 5 For reasons of hygiene, it is necessary that the tool 5 is removed and cleaned or sterilized after each treatment carried out. Accordingly, the tool 5 must be detachably connected to the vibration exciter 7, which is done by means of the coupling device 4, which is formed at the front end of the vibration exciter 7.
- the coupling device 4 has in the embodiment according to the prior art, an internal thread 9, which cooperates with an external thread 10 of the rear horruite- section in the sense of a screw connection. Accordingly, therefore, the tool 5 can be screwed onto the front end of the treatment instrument 1.
- a central arrangement of the tool shank in the sleeve-shaped coupling device 4 is thereby ensured that the end-side end surfaces 4a of the coupling device 4 are conically tapered and cooperate with a truncated cone portion of the tool shank.
- the core idea of the present invention is, first, that the
- the coupling device has a first section for receiving a tapered pin-like coupling region of the tool shaft.
- the coupling region of the tool shank can be designed in particular in the shape of a truncated cone so that a conical fit between the tool shank and the coupling device results with a corresponding configuration of the first section.
- the coupling device a second portion provided for cooperation with the tool shank to form an axially acting fuse.
- the sleeve-like coupling device 20 has an opening in the end Inserting the tool shank 30 with a slightly tapered portion 21 with a smooth inner surface.
- This first section 21 cooperates with the truncated cone-shaped region 31 of the tool shank 30.
- At this first portion 21 of the coupling device 20 further includes an internal thread 22, which cooperates with a corresponding end-side external thread 32 of the tool shank 30. It is important at first that the opening angle ⁇ of the first section 21 of the coupling device 20 is relatively small and lies only in the range between 0.01 ° and 10 °.
- the axial length d of the first portion 21 is at least equal to the length of the second portion 22 with the internal thread.
- it can range between 1mm and 15mm. This leads to the fact that the holder of the tool as well as the motion transmission in the first place on the contact surfaces of the first portion 21 of the coupling device 20 and the truncated-cone-shaped tool shank portion 31 takes place.
- the task of the screw is only to provide an additional backup in the axial direction, is prevented by the fact that the tool - for whatever reason - unintentionally triggers during operation.
- a relatively simple screw connection is sufficient, which extends only over a short length of the front end portion.
- Another function of the screw connection also consists in the fact that thereby the release of the tool is simplified by the vibration exciter 7. If the connection would be made only by a snug fit of the tool shaft in the cone-like first portion 21 of the coupling device 20, then the tool would have to be removed with a high force in the axial direction.
- the coupling device and the tool shank can also have mutually corresponding channels, through which a through the treatment instrument to tool tip extending media line is formed, which used for supplying air and / or water or other treatment medium during the treatment can be.
- FIG. 5 shows a first variant of a coupling device according to the invention.
- the axial securing in the form of a bayonet lock 40 is formed.
- Guideways 41 are accordingly provided within the first section 21 of the coupling device 20 for the insertion of the pins 42 projecting laterally on the tool shank 30.
- This bayonet connection 40 provides a particularly simple way of securing against unintentional release of the Tool, however, wherein the loosening and fastening of the tool to the vibration exciter 7 is kept particularly simple.
- the illustrated shape with two laterally projecting pins 42 it would also be conceivable to provide only a single pin, which ensures in the sense of a bayonet connection for a backup in the axial direction.
- FIGs. 6 and 7 show yet a third variant of a coupling device 20 according to the invention.
- a particularly simple held screw thread is provided, which, however, is also sufficient to effect a securing in the axial direction.
- this thread is very simple in the sense of a quick connection, e.g. as a double-threaded thread - can be formed, since the force and movement transmission is effected primarily by the seat of the truncated cone-shaped portion 31 of the tool shank 30 in the first portion 21 of the coupling device 20.
- first section and the second section of the coupling device could also be reversed.
- internal thread for realizing the axial securing is provided directly on the front region of the vibration exciter and only then is the slightly tapered first section for receiving the journal-like coupling region of the tool shank formed.
- optimal power transmission is ensured and on the other hand simplifies the handling of the treatment instrument.
