Abstract

A shutter-stop device for a male hinge (6) with removable hinge-pin, comprising a part that is able to turn with the leaf (2) and is designed to co-operate with a non-turnable part associated to the male hinge (6) for blocking the leaf (2) when it is in the open position.
Said device comprises, in combination: a top element (5) designed to turn fixedly with a female hinge (4) of the leaf (2); and a bottom element (7) that can slide axially on the fixed male hinge (6) that prevents rotation thereof. Said top element (5) is designed to engage automatically with said bottom element (7) for blocking the leaf (2) in the open position, and to disengage from said bottom element (7) when the latter is actuated by the user for releasing the leaf (2).

Description

  • The present invention relates to the sector of door and window frames, and in particular to the leaves of shutters or the like, which are installed externally on doors or windows.
  • There are currently known devices for blocking shutters or leaves external to doors and windows in the open position in order to prevent the possibility of them being re-closed by the wind or being banged shut or open even violently by gusts of wind that strike the building.
  • Usually, said shutter-stops are elements that are fixed separately, with respect to the leaves and to the corresponding hinges, on the wall on which each leaf rests when it is in the open configuration.
  • Consequently, it is first of all necessary to install the leaves by building in the corresponding male hinges with the supporting pintles and then to proceed to installation of the elements for fixing the leaves themselves. It is evident that said known shutter-stops remain in view on the facade of the building even when the shutters are closed and in any case require an additional installation separate from the installation of the leaves of the shutters themselves.
  • In fact, traditional male hinges must be installed, with or without shutter-stops, before installing the female hinges on the leaves of the shutters.
  • There are currently known different types of pintles with shutter-stop devices, but a first disadvantage common to all of them is represented by the fact that said shutter-stop devices are cumbersome.
  • A second disadvantage is represented by the fact that the body of the shutter is set in a markedly eccentric way with respect to the axis of rotation, and this implies higher mechanical stresses than in the case of hinges without shutter-stops, with the evident need for excessive oversizing.
  • In addition, said known devices cannot be mounted directly at the moment of installation of the shutters.
  • One of the purposes of the present invention is to reduce the operations necessary for installation of the shutters and of the corresponding shutter-stops, preventing the need to install shutter-stops separately from installation of the leaves of the shutters themselves.
  • Another purpose is to limit the transverse encumbrance of the entire device, rendering it altogether similar to that of normal hinges.
  • The above has been obtained, according to the invention, by providing male hinges for leaves of shutters, which are equipped with their own means for blocking the shutter which are arranged coaxially to the male hinges themselves, said male hinges being designed to be installed with the female hinges already mounted on the leaves, via purposely designed templates for making holes on the wall. Said blocking means comprise a part that is able to turn with the leaf and is designed to co-operate with a part that is not able to turn present on the male hinge for blocking the leaf when it is in the open position.
  • A better understanding of the invention will be obtained from the present detailed description, with reference to the attached plates of drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof purely by way of non-limiting example.
  • In the drawings:
    • Figure 1A is a schematic illustration of a window with shutters with two leaves, equipped with bottom male hinges having the device according to the invention;
    • Figures 1B and 1C show the two bottom male hinges of Figure 1A not installed in the wall, and on which the female hinge of the leaf is not illustrated, in the configuration of blocking of the leaf;
    • Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the invention corresponding to Figure 1B, with the parts arranged in the configuration where the leaf is not blocked;
    • Figures 3, 4 and 5 show the steps of assembly of the invention with the leaf in the closed position;
    • Figure 6, corresponding to Figure 5, shows the leaf in the open and blocked configuration;
    • Figures 7A and 7B are two views from the wall side, corresponding to Figures 5 and 6 respectively, which show the displacement of the shutter-stop device from the position with the leaf free to the position with the leaf blocked;
    • Figure 8 is an exploded side view that shows the main parts of the invention;
    • Figure 9 is a view from above of a preferred embodiment of the male hinge; and
    • Figure 10 is a view from above of the slidable part of the device according to the invention.
  • With reference to the figures, the present invention envisages at least one male hinge 6 of the type with removable hinge-pin equipped with a blocking or shutter-stop device, said male hinge 6 being designed to be fixed to the wall 1 by the installer after installation of the shutters 2 with their own female hinges 4 already applied.
  • According to a peculiar characteristic of the invention, the shutter-stop device that is described is equipped with means for blocking the leaf 2, substantially made up of two elements: a top element 5 designed to turn fixedly with respect to the female hinge 4 of the leaf 2; and an axially slidable bottom element 7 that is rotoidally fixed with respect to the male hinge 6 itself. Said top element 5 is designed to engage automatically with said bottom element 7 for blocking the leaf 2 in the open position, and to disengage from the same bottom element 7 when the latter is actuated by the user for releasing the leaf 2.
  • According to the present invention, after installation of the shutter or shutters with the female hinge/s 4 already installed, a hole is made in the wall with appropriate templates set temporarily on the female hinges 4, and then the male hinge 6 is fixed to the wall in a known way (for example with a screw anchor or resins), inserting simultaneously - within the male hinge itself - the tubular pin of the top element 5, in such a way that the latter will be set between the male hinge 6 and the female hinge 4 of the leaf 2. At this point, the removable hinge-pin 3 is inserted from above in the female hinge 4 and in the top element 5 for being screwed to the stub of threaded rod 10 provided at the bottom end of the tubular pin of the top element 5 itself.
  • In this way, the leaf 2 is rotatably constrained to the male hinge 6, and the female hinge 4 of the leaf 2 rests on the ring overlying the top element 5, which projects radially therefrom and in turn bears upon the male hinge 6. In other words, set between the female hinge 4 of the leaf 2 and the male hinge 6 on which the female hinge 4 turns is the ring of the top element 5 in such a way that it will turn fixedly with the female hinge 4.
  • To install the shutter-stop it is necessary to insert from beneath the bottom element 7, the tubular body of which slides on the outside of the male hinge 6, and then fix it by screwing, from beneath, the bushing 9 on which a coaxial thrust spring 8 has previously been inserted.
  • According to the invention, the tubular body of the bottom element 7 is axially slidable on the outside of the male hinge 6 and is provided with a longitudinal groove S, designed to fit "astride" of the horizontal shank of the male hinge 6 fixed to the wall 1 in order to prevent any rotation about the male hinge 6 itself.
  • A peculiar characteristic of the invention lies in the fact that the top rim of said bottom element 7 that can slide axially on the outside of the male hinge 6 is equipped with one or more recesses I, inserted in which are corresponding teeth D, which face downwards and purposely provided on the bottom rim of the ring of the top element 5, which bears upon the male hinge 6 itself and turns fixedly with the female hinge 4 of the leaf 2.
  • In particular, the position of said recesses I and said teeth D is preferably such that, when the leaf 2 and the corresponding female hinge 4 are in the completely open position, the teeth D set facing downwards of the top element 5 come to occupy a position corresponding to the recesses I of the bottom element 7, which can thus be displaced upwards by the thrust of the spring 8. Advantageously, in this configuration the two elements, i.e., the top element 5 and the bottom element 7 "mesh" to one another via said recesses I and teeth D, and given that the bottom element 7 is not able to turn, the female hinge 4, which is fixed with respect to the top element 5 (and the corresponding leaf 2), is blocked.
  • According to the invention, when it becomes necessary to release the leaf 2 so that it can turn, it is sufficient to displace axially downwards the slidable bottom element 7 to disengage the teeth D of the top element 5 from the corresponding recesses I of the bottom one 7.
  • In this connection, it should be noted that the weight of the leaf 2, which weighs on the female hinge 4, is supported directly and completely by the male hinge 6, upon which said turnable top element 5 bears. In the example illustrated, the surface upon which said turnable top element 5 bears is constituted substantially by the annulus defined by the top base B of the male hinge 6 with removable hinge-pin.
  • With reference to Figure 7, in the preferred embodiment described, the horizontal shank of the male hinge 6 is equipped with a polygonal element 11 having at least two vertical parallel walls, along which the bottom element 7 slides when it displaces axially, the longitudinal groove S of which is appropriately shaped so as to mate with the surfaces of said vertical parallel walls.
  • From what has been said and from the attached figures, it may be immediately noted that, advantageously, the transverse encumbrance of the entire device so far described is particularly limited as compared to other shutter-stop devices known up to now. This is due to the fact that all the moving parts are substantially coaxial with respect to one another: the female hinge 4, the turnable top element 5, the male hinge 6, the slidable bottom element 7, the spring 8, the bushing 9, and the removable hinge-pin 3.
  • It should be noted that, for each leaf, it is sufficient to install just one shutter-stop, preferably on the bottom hinge for windows and the central hinge for doors. Consequently, the remaining hinges of each leaf are of a known type and are installed in a customary way.
  • The present invention has been described and illustrated in a preferred embodiment thereof, but it is evident that numerous variations may be made, without thereby departing from the sphere of protection of the ensuing claims.
  • For example, a possible variant could regard the shape of the male hinge 6, the external cross section of which, instead of being circular, could for example be square or polygonal. In this case, the axially slidable bottom element 7 could even be without the groove S that prevents rotation thereof in so far as it would be the very external shape itself of the hinge that prevents rotary motion thereof about the axis of sliding.
