Definitions

  • the present invention concerns a window structure comprising a window frame and provided with a plate-shaped element, and further provided with a blinding plate and at least one fastener fastening said blinding plate in the window frame, wherein said fastener is fastening the blinding plate between surfaces of the window frame which surfaces are substantially perpendicular to a major surface of the blinding plate.
  • the invention also concerns a method for installing blinding plate in a window structure.
  • This type of window structure is applied in buildings where the outer fagade is based on a uniform frame system where glass panes are needed in some frames and in other frames other plate elements, such as a wood filling, are needed.
  • a blinding plate on the inside of the outer plate element.
  • insulation is placed between the outer plate-shaped element and the inner blinding plate.
  • a strip of wood is secured to the windows frame by nails. The blinding plate is pushed against this strip of wood and secured by nails. A further strip of wood may also be secured in order to fixate the blinding plate to the windows frame.
  • the fastener for securing the blinding plate to the window frame comprises: - at least one engagement means prepared for engaging with a recess (e.g. holes or a slit) in the window frame, in order to when in use hold the fastener in place in the window frame;
  • a recess e.g. holes or a slit
  • At least one securing element for securing the blinding plate said at least one securing element will in use engage with an edge surface of the blinding plate, in order to fix it in position.
  • the fastener when placed in the window structure, will have the positioning portion placed parallel with and in contact with one major surface of the blinding plate. This will offer a stable support for the blinding plate, and thereby keeping the blinding plate in position.
  • At least one securing element of the fastener is placed on a base portion.
  • said base portion is extending perpendicular from the positioning portion.
  • At least one securing element of the fastener is prepared for exerting a pressure against an edge surface of the blinding plate, thus offering a simple means of holding the blinding plate in position.
  • a said securing element of the fastener is barbed.
  • the engagement means of the fastener is extending from the positioning portion substantially parallel with this.
  • the engagement means comprises means for securing the en- gagement means in a hole in the frame once it has been entered.
  • the engagement means comprises two parts: a first part being parallel with and in plane with the positioning portion, and a second part bent an angle in relation to the positioning portion.
  • the engagement means may exert a pressure on the inside of a hole or slit in the window frame.
  • the fastener may comprise any number of engagement means, but in a preferred embodiment it has two engagements means.
  • the fastener is made from one piece of sheet metal, preferably steel or aluminium. Such materials offer a spring like characteristic preferred for the securing element and the engagement means.
  • the blinding plate of the window structure has two major surfaces and four minor edge surfaces, sub- stantially perpendicular to the major surfaces, wherein sealing strips are attached to the minor edge surfaces of the blinding plate; wherein the sealing strips are provided with a lip portion which, when the blinding plate is installed, is prepared for adjoining a surface of the window frame, in order to achieve a close fit between the window frame and the blinding plate.
  • a lip portion will give a close fit without destroying the possibility of removing the blinding late again in an easy way.
  • the sealing strips of the blinding plate are provided with means for cooperating with the securing element to provide a strong connection between the edge of the blinding plate and the fastener. Such means may be ripples in the surface of the sealing strip facing the securing element of the fastener.
  • an insulation material is placed between the plate-shaped element and the blinding plate.
  • the invention also concerns a method for attaching a blinding plate in a window frame of a window structure comprising the following four steps,
  • the window frame with holes or a slit which are engaging with engagement means of fasteners
  • said fasteners comprising: - at least one engagement means prepared for engaging with a recess, such as holes or a slit, in the window frame, in order to when in use hold the fastener in place in the window frame; at least one positioning portion for when in use preventing the blinding plate from being moved further in the direction of the posi- tioning portion; at least one securing element for securing the blinding plate, said at least one securing element will in use engage with an edge surface of the blinding plate, in order to fix it in position;
  • the recesses, such as holes or a slit, in the window frame may by provided either at the manufacturing site of the window construction, or during installation in a building.
  • Figure 1 illustrates a cross sectional view of a window structure with a blinding plate.
  • Figure 2 illustrates a fastener used in the window structure.
  • Figure 3 illustrates another embodiment of a fastener used in the window structure.
  • Figure 4 illustrates a further embodiment of a fastener used in the window structure.
  • Figure 5 illustrates a blinding plate with a sealing strip.
  • Figure 6 illustrates one sheet from which the blinding plate of figure 4 could be folded.
  • Figure 1 illustrates a cross sectional view of a window structure according to the invention.
  • This shows an outer plate-shaped element 50, which can be of any material suitable for external fagade cladding, such as wood, compressed fibrous materials (e.g. mineral fibres), metal (e.g. aluminium), cement board or glass.
  • Figure 1 further shows a window frame 2, a blinding plate 3 and a fastener 1 for holding the blinding plate 3.
  • the outer plate- shaped element 50 may either be secured directly to the frame 3, or it may be placed in a sash.
  • FIG 2 a closer view of the fastener 1 used for holding the blinding plate 3 is shown.
  • the blinding plate 3 will be positioned within an opening made up of typically four surfaces 21 of window frames 2, these four surfaces typically forming a rectangle.
  • the fastener will have engagement means 11 prepared for engaging with holes 22 or a slit in the surface 21 of the window frame 2.
  • the fastener 1 will also have at least one positioning portion 12 for positioning the blinding plate 3, and at least one securing element 14 for holding the blinding plate 3.
  • the engagement means 11 will extend from the positioning portion 12, substantially parallel with this.
  • the engagement means 11 will preferably be pre- pared for engaging holes (e.g. circular holes) in the window frame 2. In this situation the engagement means 11 could have a circular shape themselves. If the fastener 1 is made from a metal sheet, the engagement means 11 could simply be formed from this sheet into a tubular-shaped element.
  • the engagement means 11 could also be made up of a first part 15 of the plate forming the positioning portion 12, and of a second part 16 bended an angle V in relation to the first portion 15. This angle, as well as the width of the first part 15 and the second part 16 of the engagement means 11 , could preferably be selected such that the engagement means 11 would be slightly larger than the holes 22 in the window frame 2. This means that the engagement means 11 will have a clamping effect when in engagement with the hole 22. Therefore, the fastener will stay in position in the holes 22 once inserted.
  • the engagement means 11 may comprise further parts. These further parts could be secured to the second part 16 and bended in relation to this. A further possibility is that the engagement means 11 is flat and parallel to the positioning portion 12, and prepared for engaging with a slit in the window frame (2). When holes 22 or a slit in the window frame 2 is used for engaging with the engagement means 11 of the fastener 1 , such holes 22 or slit is preferably made during manufacturing of the window frame 2.
  • the positioning portion 12 of the fastener 1 will prevent the blinding plate from being pushed further in the direction of the positioning portion 12, and thereby in the direction of the outer plate-shaped element 50.
  • the positioning portion 12 is preferably a plate shaped piece, which plate shaped piece may also form a part of the engagement means 11. Therefore there will not nec- essarily be a clear transition between the positioning portion 12 and a first part of the engagement means 11.
  • the positioning portion 12 could also be an extension of the engagement means 11 , i.e. the end of the engagement means 11 which, when in use, are not in engagement with the holes 22 or slit.
  • the positioning portion 12 may also be made up of two or more individual parts, which forms part of the same plane prepared for supporting the blinding plate 3.
  • FIG 2 An example of the securing element 14 of the fastener 1 is also illustrated in figure 2.
  • the securing element 14 must ensure that the blinding plate 3 is secured in the correct position once it has been pushed against the positioning portion 12.
  • the securing element 14 has been stamped out of a base portion 13 which is supporting the securing elements 14.
  • the securing elements 14 are stamped out with a protruding end facing the positioning portion 12, while the connection between the securing element 14 and the base portion 13 is in the direction away from the positioning portion 12.
  • the securing elements 14 will easily be compressed when the blinding plate 3 is pushed into position.
  • the blinding plate 3 will slide on the securing element 14 when moved in the direction of the position- ing portion 12.
  • the protruding end of the securing element 14 will be pressed towards the base portion 13, and will therefore exert a pressure towards the blinding plate 3.
  • the edge of the securing element is preferably relatively thin and sharp, and therefore the protruding part of the securing element 14 will act as barbs, and will therefore fix the position of the blinding plate by preventing the blind- ing plate 3 from being moved away from the positioning portion 12 again.
  • the number of fasteners 1 necessary for securing one blinding plate 3 into position will depend on the size of the blinding plate, on the exact embodiment of the fastener, and on the mechanical stability of the fastening which needs to be achieved.
  • mechanical stability is meant that the possible movement or oscillation of the blinding plate 3, e.g. due to external vibrations or changes in air pressure difference over the blinding plate 3.
  • the fasteners 1 may have very different dimensions in different embodiments of the invention.
  • the fasteners 1 may have a width equal to a length of an edge 32 of the blinding plate 3 and may comprise several engagement means 11 and several securing elements 14.
  • the fastener may also have only one engagement means 11 and/or one securing element 14.
  • the thin sheet should be inserted between the base portion 13 of all fasteners used for fastening the blinding plate 3, and the edge of the blinding plate 32.
  • This thin sheet will separate the edge of the blinding plate and the protruding part of the securing element 14, such that the barbs will no longer be able to engage with the edge 32 of the blinding plate.
  • the blinding plate 3 will therefore no longer be fixed in the position and can, therefore, be removed. Following this the fasteners 1 can also be removed.
  • Figure 3 illustrates another embodiment of the invention in which two en- gagement means 11 are arranged between two separate parts 12' and 12" of the positioning portion 12.
  • a separate base portion 13' and 13" is arranged, wherein each base portion part 13' and 13" comprise a securing element 14' and 14".
  • a bridging portion 18 is connecting the two engagement means 11.
  • the bridg- ing portion is extending substantially perpendicular to the two positioning portions 12' and 12".
  • Figure 4 illustrates a further embodiment of the invention in which the two engagement means are arranged with two intermediate parts of positioning portions 12' and 12" each arranged with a separate base portion 13' and 13", wherein each base portion part 13' and 13" comprise a securing element 14' and 14". Also in this embodiment a bridging portion 18 is connecting the two engagement means 11 , and the bridging portion 18 is extending substantially perpendicular to the two positioning portions 12' and 12".
  • the advantage of this design is that the bridging portion 18 can be arranged such that it provides support for the positioning portions12' and 12" such that these are protected against being bend backwards when pushing the blinding plate into position.
  • Figure 5 illustrates a cross sectional view of a part of the window structure according to the invention, with the window frame 2, a blinding plate 3 and a fastener 1. Furthermore, an additional sealing strip 4 is shown.
  • This sealing strip 4 is secured to the edge 32 of the blinding plate, e.g. by use of an adhesive, before the blinding plate 3 is placed in position in the window structure.
  • the sealing strip 4 is preferably provided with a lip portion 42 having the pur- pose of establishing a tight fit between the blinding plate 3 and the window frame 2.
  • the sealing strip may also be provided with means for establishing an improved engagement with the securing element 14. These means may simply be the surface of the sealing strip having a relatively high friction coefficient, or the means may have the form of ripples in the surface of the seal- ing strip facing the securing element 14.
  • Figure 5 also illustrates that the base portion 13 of the fastener 1 may have an inclination in relation to the surface 21 of the window frame 2.
  • the fastener 1 will rest with the base portion 13 on the surface 21 of the window frame 2.
  • the inclination of the base portion 13 will increase the distance between the protruding part of the securing element 14 and the surface 21 of the window frame, and thereby increase the operating range of the securing element 14, thus allowing larger tolerances on the dimensioning of the blinding plate 3.
  • Figure 6 illustrates a sheet metal, e.g. steel or aluminium, from which the fas- tener illustrated in figure 4 may be folded.
  • a sheet metal e.g. steel or aluminium
  • the fastener 1 is preferably made from only one material. This material will typically be a metal e.g. steel.
  • the fastener may be produced from one piece of sheet steel, with a thickness preferably in the range 0.1 - 0.5 mm.
  • First the basic flat shape would be stamped out as well as the necessary cut outs for e.g. the securing elements.
  • the base portion 13 and the secur- ing elements 14 are bent into the necessary shape.
  • the engagement means 11 is bent or rolled into shape if necessary.
  • the fastener 1 may also be cast from a plastic material.
