Definitions
- the present invention relates to the general field of lubrication of an aviation turbine engine.
- It relates more particularly to the monitoring of leaks and the consumption of a lubricating system of a turbojet engine through the measurement of the level of the oil tanks and the consumption.
- An aerospace turbine engine has many elements that need to be lubricated; these include the rolling bearings used to support the rotating shafts, as well as the gears of the accessory gearbox.
- Dynamic lubrication consists in putting oil in continuous circulation in a circuit of lubrication. A flow of lubricating oil from a reservoir is thus sent by a pump on the bearing bearings.
- level sensor in the oil tanks would allow more accurate, reliable, simple and repetitive consumption identifications as well as detection of leakage or abnormal consumption without waiting for interviews.
- predictions of autonomy would also allow the establishment of predictive maintenance rather than programmed as well as the management of backups.
- An oil tank level sensor exists on modern turbojet engines. However the detection of a problem in flight is currently based on the passing of a simple low threshold.
- the document WO 94/20739 A proposes a method and a device for a turbomachine where the flow of fluid is monitored and controlled on the basis of a feedback mechanism.
- the method includes generating a control at the fluid pump representing the desired fluid flow rate and then generating a control output signal to change the speed of the pump based on different received signals, these may be the signal from a flowmeter representing the actual fluid flow, the signal from a speedometer representing the speed of the fluid pump or the signal on the position of the fluid metering valve.
- the document US 2004/0093150 A1 proposes a method and a system that are able to accurately detect whether the engine oil has been replenished and thus determine the level of degradation of the oil in use.
- the system includes various sensors including an oil level sensor and a crankshaft angle sensor. Based on the rotational speed of the engine, the engine CPU calculates a cumulative number of revolutions indicative of oil degradation. When the oil level which was equal to or less than a predetermined lower threshold before stopping the engine, is equal to or greater than, after the start following stopping, to a predetermined upper threshold, the calculated number of accumulated revolutions is corrected to indicate a lower level of oil degradation.
- the present invention aims to provide a solution that makes it possible to overcome the disadvantages of the state of the art.
- the invention aims to provide continuous monitoring of a turbomachine lubrication system to reduce the costs associated with oil leaks that are a major cause of incidents (such as ATO for Aborted Take-Off , IFSD for In-Flight Shut-Down, D & C for Delay & Cancellation) on the one hand and associated with scheduled maintenance on the other hand.
- ATO Aborted Take-Off
- IFSD In-Flight Shut-Down
- D & C Delay & Cancellation
- the invention aims, in addition to avoiding incidents in flight, to allow, by assessing the remaining oil life, the replacement of scheduled maintenance by predictive maintenance and thus avoid unnecessary maintenance as well as oil supplement management.
- a third object of the present invention relates to a computer program containing a code suitable for implementing the method for calculating the consumption and the oil autonomy associated with a lubricating system. an aircraft engine in flight, as described above, when said program is run on a computer.
- the figure 1 schematically represents the variation in oil consumption of a turbojet engine over time as a result of aging or sudden damage.
- the aforementioned detection is allowed by setting up an algorithm for calculating the instantaneous consumption of oil.
- the only level given by the detector unfortunately does not provide direct consumption because the reservoir level is also influenced by mechanisms and spurious effects.
- the algorithm set up to evaluate consumption and detect an anomaly must eliminate or circumvent this problem.
- a first strategy is to work by comparison between (the) different engines of the same aircraft. In this case, spurious effects are not eliminated but can be considered identical on both engines.
- a reference value theoretical or evaluated during the running-in of the engine
- Another strategy is to take into account, totally or partially, the various mechanisms and spurious effects to evaluate the consumption from the measurement of the measured oil level and determine if it is normal.
- the measurement of the consumption and the leak detection will be more or less sensitive, and the integration time necessary to obtain this sensitivity will be more or less great. More specifically, the level of prediction of the gulping contribution will determine different levels of algorithm architectures, to which correspond different possibilities of exploitation of results (see Table 1).
- Stage 1 corresponds to a measurement of the level at the beginning and at the end of the flight to evaluate the quantity consumed.
- this delta approach is improved on the entire flight by introducing a correction on the tank level at the end of the flight thanks to the knowledge of gulping at a standstill depending on the temperature.
- Stages 2 and 3 introduce level measurements during flight phases (at the beginning and at the end of each phase or continuously). By means of a knowledge of the influence of the temperature with constant regime, one can work by deltas during the same phase (compared to the level at the beginning of phase).
- the stages 4 and 5 correspond to a constant monitoring of the oil level, possible if all the parasitic effects are estimable in phase and in transient.
- Stage 1 (state of the art): - No estimate of gulping - Oil level measurements at the beginning and end of the flight - What remains of gulping after the flight (delay due to thermal inertia) is considered lost - Large leakage over a long period of time is detectable at the end of the flight - The autonomy is calculated in "standard flights" ⁇
- Stage 2 - Average Gulping depending on the oil temperature, engine stopped, known - Oil level measurements at the beginning and at the end of the flight - Same as stage 1, but the remaining gulping is evaluated, and the results are less conservative - Precision consumption and leak detection is refined - Calculation of autonomy more realistic ⁇
- Stage 3 - Average gulping according to the known oil temperature for each engine speed, at constant speed ( ⁇ 0
- the program architecture represented on the figure 2 corresponds to the level or stage 4 in Table 1 above, combined with a comparison between the information of the two engines to help detect abnormal consumption of one of them.
- the reservoir level is processed together with other information to extract the total amount of oil remaining in the entire engine and the quantity available in the tank (total quantity minus the amount retained in the tank). the speakers by gulping).
- a reservoir level or, after taking into account the thermal expansion and the attitude and inclination, an available quantity generates an estimate of autonomy, expressed in hours, based on a typical consumption, calculated above in architecture.
- the total quantity is then used to calculate the instantaneous consumption and the average consumption of the current phase (or of a slippery phase, of duration fixed by the required precision).
- the instantaneous consumption is sent only to the comparisons and autonomy estimation module, while the average consumption is additionally recorded and processed in the "long term" processor, where the normal consumption thresholds are reevaluated using this information, the total number of engine flight hours, the number of interviews, etc.
- the "long-term” processor can have other functions, such as reevaluating the parameters used in the gulping estimation according to the feedback of the engine (by evolutionary algorithms), or calculating consumptions averages taking into account previous flights, usable to calculate the autonomy with respect to the flights to be followed.
- the instantaneous and average consumptions are compared with those of the other engine (engine n ° 2) and their respective thresholds (reevaluated by the "long term” processor), and an anomaly is signaled by an alert.
- Average fuel consumption is also used to estimate if the range is sufficient to complete the current flight. If not, an alert is generated and, depending on the profiles of the next flights, the number of flights remaining before having to fill the tank.
- the total amount of oil must of course be reset at the beginning of each flight, knowing that before starting the engine, all the oil is in the tank, to avoid false alarms if the tank has been filled.
- leakage flow Once the leakage flow has been identified, it can be used to determine its origin, once studies and sufficient feedback have allowed certain failures to be attributed to "leakage" signatures.
- the innovation is to detect leaks sufficiently large well before what is done according to the current state of the art and therefore allows modify the run the plane or stop the engine before the failure occurs.
- the invention makes it possible to avoid a lot of bearing failures due to an absence of oil and finally allows a better planning of the maintenance by the airline, for example, if we notice a significant increase in consumption, attributed to the aging of the aircraft. equipment, which can be identified by its signature.
- the innovation consists in using an average consumption reassessed according to the age engine and previous flights.
- an autonomy calculation for future flights is made possible, which makes it possible to plan future refills.
- the invention thus makes it possible to generalize the measurement carried out, to eliminate the risks of human error, and above all to obtain a sensitivity for much smaller leaks, enabling maintenance planning and an immediate reaction in flight even to divert the aircraft. plane if the leak is really too important.
