  • the ignition propensity of cigarettes can be measured by a standardized test method. Usually, the test defined in ASTM E 2187-04 is performed (ASTM: “American Standard for Testing and Materials”; ASTM E 2187: “Standard Test Method for Measuring the Ignition Strength of Cigarettes”; the extension "-04” refers to 2004 as the year of the last revision). According to ASTM E 2187-04, a sample of 40 cigarettes is tested under well-defined conditions, and the fraction of these cigarettes which burn their full length is called “the test result”. A safety standard specifies which test result is acceptable. For example, in Canada and some U.S. states, the acceptable test result is 25%, i.e. at least 75% of the cigarettes have to extinguish before burning their full length in order to comply with the safety standard.

Claims (16)

  1. Article à fumer, comprenant un boudin de tabac et une enveloppe, dans lequel l'enveloppe comporte au moins une zone traitée avec un sel inorganique assurant une tendance réduite à l'inflammation, caractérisé en ce que la porosité de l'enveloppe dans la/les zones traitées, par suite dudit traitement, reste supérieure à 10 unités Coresta CU.
  2. Article à fumer selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que la porosité de l'enveloppe dans la/les zones traitées est supérieure à 12 CU ou 15 CU.
  3. Article à fumer selon la revendication 1 ou la revendication 2, caractérisé en ce que le sel inorganique est composé d'au moins une substance choisie dans le groupe comprenant le chlorure de magnésium, le sulfate d'aluminium, l'alun, le tétraborate de sodium, le chlorure de magnésium hydraté, le sulfate d'aluminium hydraté, l'alun hydraté, le tétraborate de sodium hydraté, le chlorure de sodium.
  4. Article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, caractérisé en ce que la quantité spécifique du sel inorganique dans la/les zones traitées de l'enveloppe est de 0,2 mg/cm2 à 20 mg/cm2, de préférence de 0,5 mg/cm2 à 5 mg/cm2,
  5. Article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, caractérisé en ce que l'enveloppe comporte au moins une zone discrète traitée avec le sel inorganique, la superficie totale des zones discrètes étant plus petite que la superficie totale de l'enveloppe.
  6. Article à fumer selon la revendication 5, caractérisé en ce que les zones discrètes sont organisées en bandes s'étendant sur le pourtour de l'article à fumer et ayant une largeur, mesurée sur l'axe du boudin de tabac, de 2 mm à 12 mm, de préférence de 2 mm à 8 mm, de préférence surtout de 6 mm.
  7. Article à fumer selon la revendication 6, caractérisé en ce que l'enveloppe comporte au moins deux zones discrètes, deux zones discrètes voisines étant séparées d'au moins 1 mm, de préférence d'au moins 10 mm.
  8. Article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un filtre.
  9. Article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 8, caractérisé en ce qu'il s'agit d'une cigarette, l'enveloppe étant du papier à cigarettes.
  10. Procédé de fabrication d'un article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, comprenant une étape caractérisée en ce que le sel organique est appliqué sur l'enveloppe à l'aide d'une solution ou d'une suspension.
  11. Procédé selon la revendication 10, caractérisé en ce que la solution est chauffée afin d'améliorer la solubilité du sel organique.
  12. Procédé selon la revendication 10 ou 11, caractérisé en ce que le solvant ou l'agent de suspension, respectivement, est composé d'eau.
  13. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 10 à 12, caractérisé en ce que le sel inorganique est appliqué sur l'enveloppe à l'aide d'une des techniques suivantes : impression hélio, impression par jet d'encre, pulvérisation.
  14. Procédé selon l'une quelconque des revendications 10 à 13, caractérisé en ce que le sel inorganique est appliqué en continu sur l'enveloppe durant un processus de fabrication de cigarettes, avant l'enveloppement d'un boudin de tabac continu avec le matériau enveloppant.
  15. Enveloppe pour rouler des cigarettes, l'enveloppe comportant les caractéristiques de l'enveloppe d'un article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, l'enveloppe se présentant sous la forme de papier.
  16. Tube enveloppant, comprenant de préférence un filtre, pour fabriquer des cigarettes en remplissant de tabac le tube enveloppant, le tube enveloppant comportant les caractéristiques de l'enveloppe d'article à fumer selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, et le tube enveloppant se présentant sous la forme d'un tube en papier.
