Claims (6)

  1. A system for height adjusting a seat backrest, consisting of:
    - an arm (1) integral with the backrest;
    - a sleeve (5) connected to the seating and constituting a slideway for the arm (1) of the backrest;
    - a flexible spring rod (13) adapted to be bent in a direction perpendicular to the sliding motion, and having at least one folded end (14);
    - a guiding part (3) comprising guiding means (4) in closed loop with the folded end (14) in response to sliding displacements of the arm (1) inside the sleeve (5), said guiding means (4) comprising a first straight channel portion (16) parallel to the sliding direction, and a second portion (17) provided with a plurality of stable positioning areas (20) of the arm (1) inside the sleeve (5) locked by the spring rod (13),
    wherein
    - the second portion (17) consists of a zigzag channel oriented in parallel to the first portion (16) and having a symmetry with an axis A-A' corresponding to the released position of the spring rod (13);
    - a notch (20) is made at the axis of symmetry A-A' in the side of each section of the zigzag oriented opposite the direction of displacement of the folded end (14) of the rod (13);
    - the two portions (16, 17) are connected to one of the ends of the zigzag channel by a division (19) laterally opening into the first straight portion (16) in the vicinity of an input mouth (15) of the circuit elastically biasing the rod (13) toward said first portion (16), and at the other end by a division (18) elastically releasing the rod (13) toward the first section of the zigzag.
  2. The system for height adjusting a seat backrest according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the sections of the zigzag channel are connected by a rounded exterior wall.
  3. The system for height adjusting a seat backrest according to any of the preceding claims, characterized in that the guiding part (3) is integral with the arm (1) of the backrest, the opening mouth (15) of the guiding circuit opening at the free end of the arm (1) provided to be inserted into the sleeve (5), the spring rod (13) being integral with said sleeve (5), the folded end (14) thereof being located in the vicinity of the opening thereof.
  4. The system for height adjusting a seat backrest according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the sleeve (5) is fitted with two half-shells (6, 7) forming a bushing for guiding the arm (1) of the backrest, with the spring rod (13) being fastened to one (6) of these half-shells (6, 7).
  5. The system for height adjusting a seat backrest according to the preceding claim, characterized in that one (6) of the half-shells (6, 7) comprises a retractable finger (8) placed on an elastic tab (9), said finger (8) being insertable by elastic engagement into an orifice (10) of the sleeve (5).
  6. A method for mounting a backrest at the base of a seat comprising an adjusting system according to claims 1 to 5, comprising the following steps:
    - providing the base with a flexible member (13);
    - fitting the backrest with a retainer (4) for coupling with said member (13);
    - aligning the flexible member (13) with said retainer (4); and
    - sliding the backrest downward, by forcing the flexible member (13) in the retainer (4) in the direction of the axis A-A', at the notches (20) made in the side of each section of the zigzag oriented opposite the direction of displacement of the folded end of the rod.
