- Figure 3 shows another preferred embodiment in which the surround is formed by a sill (2), two lateral recesses (7) and a lintel (8), all of which form a single part which is also provided with a perimeter tab (4) for its attachment to the façade (5).
- the surround which is the object of the invention is made in a single part, so that there are no joins or connections which facilitates evacuation of any accumulated water.
- the water is not porous and therefore does not absorb humidity, thus increasing the duration of the structure.
- Another advantage of the invention is the fact that it enables layers of thermal and acoustic insulation to be inserted between the old and new surrounds.
- the surrounds which are the object of the invention are preferably obtained from moulding parts having the appropriate forms.
- the surround may be made, for example, from material comprising a base of thermostable resins reinforced with glass fibre, and which is non porous so that there is almost no water absorption which facilitates cleaning and conservation. Nevertheless, it may also be made from thermoplastic and thermostable resins or combinations of these with other materials, PVC, metal and stainless materials and other similar materials.
- Another advantage of the surround which is the object of the invention is that both the material from which the surround is composed and the moulding procedure provide a surface which may be smooth, rough, for example, of cement type, or veined imitating wood, shiny or matt, with the possibility of incorporating any colour and any finish thereon.

Abstract
Description
- The present invention refers to prefabricated surrounds for windows and doors.
- The prefabricated surround which is the object of the invention may be directly situated on the façade or on previous surround, acting as a lining thereof, so that the former surround does not need to be removed and replaced with a new one.
- Prefabricated surrounds are provided with the external form of a surround for window or door being hollow in its interior in order to be situated on the former surrounds and providing means of attachment to the façade.
- Windows and doors, in particular in older buildings, usually have surrounds on the external façade of the building. These surrounds may be formed simply by a ledge or they may be more complex, defining an element which completely surrounds the window or door and may even be complemented with a porch.
- When renovating a building, it is necessary to remove any components which have deteriorated with the passage of time, substituting them with other new parts. However, this procedure entails considerable difficulties such as, for example, the need to carry out part of the removal work from inside the house, and subsequently having to plaster not only the external façade but also the rooms containing the renovated windows. This has the disadvantage of being time consuming and expensive and prolongs the building renovation process.
- The present invention proposes to eliminate the foregoing disadvantages by means of a system which obviates the need to remove the former surrounds, placing the surrounds which are the object of the invention on the previous surrounds as a cover. In this way the work of removing the surrounds is avoided and there is no need for cementing and plastering work inside the house. Furthermore, the prefabricated surround which is the object of this invention also permits thermal insulation to be fitted to the internal face of the surround as well as the possibility of carrying out any necessary plaster work or carpentry thereon. In addition to these advantages, the composition and structure of the surrounds which are the object of the invention facilitate its cleaning and maintenance.
- The surrounds which are the object of the invention may also be used directly on the façades of new buildings as the initial surround, since their use is not merely confined to older surrounds in building refurbishments.
- This invention consists of a prefabricated surround for windows or doors.
- The surrounds, which are usually used in windows may constitute various elements such as, for example, sills, recesses and lintel. The surround which is the object of the invention may consist of all these elements in an independent manner, or combinations thereof. Similarly the surrounds used in doors may also consist of a lintel and/or recesses.
- The prefabricated surrounds are provided with the external form of a surround for window or door, with the aforementioned considerations, having a hollow interior, which permits it to be placed on the existing surrounds without the need for removing them. The surrounds which are the object of the invention are provided with means for attachment to the façade.
- In this way an enormous amount of time is saved in mounting the renovated surrounds and the renovation time spent on windows and doors is reduced considerably. The surrounds which are the object of the invention may also be used on new buildings and fitted directly onto the façade.
- The present descriptive report is complemented by a set of plans illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention but which is in no way restrictive.
-
Figure 1 shows a perspective diagram of a preferred embodiment of the surround which is the object of the invention formed solely by a sill situated on a window. -
Figure 2 shows a perspective diagram of another preferred embodiment of the surround which is the object of the invention formed by a perimeter surround. -
Figure 3 shows a perspective diagram of another preferred embodiment of the surround which is the object of the invention formed by a perimetral surround with a lintel and sill. -
Figure 1 shows a surround situated on a window (1) in the actual façade. The surround of the preferred embodiment offigure 1 , is formed by a sill (2) which is superimposed on the original sill (3). - The prefabricated sill (2) is provided with a perimeter tongue (4) which is used for attachment to the façade (5) of the building, using bolts or screws which pass through it. Subsequently on this tongue (4) the work of cementing and plastering the façade will be carried out so that the tongue is concealed. The perimeter tab (4) permits the surround to be fixed in a rapid manner, thus leading to even more time saving in the execution of the work.
-
Figure 2 shows a view of another preferred embodiment of the invention in which the surround (6) would encircle the window perimeter, also provided with a perimeter tab (4). -
Figure 3 shows another preferred embodiment in which the surround is formed by a sill (2), two lateral recesses (7) and a lintel (8), all of which form a single part which is also provided with a perimeter tab (4) for its attachment to the façade (5). - In all the previous embodiments the surround which is the object of the invention is made in a single part, so that there are no joins or connections which facilitates evacuation of any accumulated water. In addition, the water is not porous and therefore does not absorb humidity, thus increasing the duration of the structure.
- Another advantage of the invention is the fact that it enables layers of thermal and acoustic insulation to be inserted between the old and new surrounds.
- The surrounds which are the object of the invention are preferably obtained from moulding parts having the appropriate forms. The surround may be made, for example, from material comprising a base of thermostable resins reinforced with glass fibre, and which is non porous so that there is almost no water absorption which facilitates cleaning and conservation.
