Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an inflatable valve system for protecting the body in the event of a fall or impact.
  • the protections are traditionally made of rigid plastic or foam, with no real ability to absorb shocks or impacts.
  • the device according to the invention overcomes this disadvantage. It comprises in fact according to a first characteristic a valve that can be inflated with the aid of an inflation nozzle. Once inflated it is applied to the part of the body that we want to protect.
  • the patent US 3,550,159 describes an inflatable structure to protect a person's torso from impact.
  • This structure comprises, in its thickness, three layers of cells communicating with each other by small air passages formed in their walls.
  • This structure is thick, it is uncomfortable and impractical, for example for bikers or athletes who should not be bothered in their movements by their protective clothing.
  • the cells are almost completely closed and include only small air passages between them. In the event of a rapid and violent impact, the air is thus congested and blocked in its cell, and it can not circulate correctly from one cell to another to absorb the shock effectively.

  • the protective effect of the structure is further diminished by its very design, in particular because the upper panel is directly welded to the lower panel in several parts of the structure. Indeed, an impact close to these places would not be at all or only slightly attenuated, since there is no or little air between the two panels in these places and in their periphery.
  • An object of the present invention is therefore to provide an inflatable protection valve offering impact protection more effective than the protection offered by the valves of the prior art.
