Description

The present invention relates to a device for interrupting a communication line, more particularly a line transmitting computer data between a computer and a computer network.

Such a device is described for example in the document WO 03/010627 . It allows the user to physically break the link between the computer and the network to, in particular, protect the computer against computer attacks from the network. The document DE 102 13 351 describes a device for interrupting a data line connected to a computer and powered by the latter to close or open according to the state, active or standby, of the computer.

With broadband connections such as DSL, SDSL, etc., a computer can remain permanently connected to the Internet, exposing it to malicious computer intrusions. Existing software such as firewall, anti-intrusion or anti-virus provide security but are far from being an absolute protection. Interrupting the physical link between the network and the computer when the latter is not used to exchange data is a very effective complement of protection.

The interrupt devices used for this purpose nevertheless have a major disadvantage: they do not take into account the fact that the same data communication line can be used to transmit signals independent of each other, that is to say signals concerning different applications and / or from or intended for different networks. For example, communication lines meeting the RJ45 standard include different functional groups of wires, one of which is intended for transmitting computer data and another for transmitting telephone signals. By physically interrupting the communication line connecting a computer and one or more networks, the interruption devices known to date prevent the transmission to and from the computer of all the signals normally conveyed by this communication line, including the signals which pose no risk in terms of computer security.

The present invention aims to overcome this drawback and proposes for this purpose an interruption device according to claim 1 or 2 appended, a communication line according to claim 9 or 10, a computer network according to claim 14 and a method of An interrupt according to claim 15, particular embodiments of the invention being defined in the dependent claims.

With reference to Figures 1 and 2 , a device for interrupting a communication line according to the invention, device designated by the reference numeral 1, comprises a housing 2 having on one of its faces two input / output jacks 3, 4. The input jacks / output 3, 4 are intended to receive respectively two cables 5, 6, allowing these cables 5, 6 to be connected in series. When they are connected to the sockets 3, 4, the cables 5, 6 define, with the interruption device 1, said communication line.

In the example illustrated, the input / output jacks 3, 4 and the cables 5, 6 are of the RJ45 type. The cables 5, 6 thus each comprise a first group of wires 7a, composed of two pairs of son called "orange pair" 7c and "green pair" 7d, and a second group of son 7b, composed of two other pairs of said son. "Blue pair" 7th and "brown pair" 7f. The first and second son groups 7a, 7b are intended to transmit respective signals independent of each other. More precisely, the first group of wires 7a is intended to transmit computer data and the blue pair 7e of the second group of wires 7b to transmit telephone signals (voice signals). The brown pair 7f of the second group of son 7b is, for its part, not yet used in the RJ45 standard. In practice, the wires of the cables 5, 6 are not necessarily arranged as illustrated in FIG. figure 2 ; they are usually twisted and the pairs can be intertwined at the sockets 3, 4.

These switches 8 are respectively associated with the son of the first group 7a of each of the cables 5, 6 and are operable simultaneously from outside the housing 2 by means of a manual control member 11 provided on one of the faces of the housing 2. The switches 8 can thus take, together, a closed position in which, when the cables 5, 6 are connected to the device of 1, more precisely to the electrical contacts 9, 10 of the sockets 3, 4, the son of the first group 7a of the cable 5 are respectively connected to the corresponding son of the first group 7a of the cable 6, allowing the exchange of C between the cables 5, 6 through the housing 2, and a open position (shown in figure 2 ) in which the wires of the first group 7a of the cable 5 are disconnected from the wires of the first group 7a of the cable 6.

The interruption device 1 according to the invention also comprises, inside the housing 2, transmission means consisting of conductors 12, four in number in the illustrated example, each connected between the input / output jacks 3, 4, more precisely between a respective electrical contact 9 of the receptacle 3 and a respective electrical contact 10 of the receptacle 4. These conductors 12 are respectively associated with the wires of the second group 7b of each of the cables 5, 6. 5, 6 are connected to the interruption device 1, these conductors 12 respectively connect the son of the second group 7b of the cable 5 to the corresponding son of the second group 7b of the cable 6, without interruption possible.

The inside of the interruption device 1 according to the invention, comprising the switches 8 and the conductors 12, is preferably made in the form of a printed circuit.

The interruption device 1 according to the invention thus allows the interruption of the data communications between the cables 5, 6, while allowing the possible signals, independent of said data, transmitted by the second group of wires 7b of the cables 5, to pass through, 6. More particularly, in the case of the RJ45 standard, the telephone signals transmitted by the blue pair 7e of the second group of wires 7b can continue to be exchanged through the housing 2 when the exchange of data transmitted by the first group of son 7a is interrupted.

The figure 3 shows an example of a computer system in which the interruption device 1 according to the invention can be used. This system comprises a local computer network 13, for example Ethernet type, comprising a number of computers interconnected by RJ45 wiring. At least one of these computers, indicated by the mark 14, is connected to the rest of the network 13 by a communication line as illustrated in FIG. figure 2 , that is to say that an interruption device 1 according to the invention is connected between this computer 14 and the corresponding network socket 15 by cables 16 RJ45 type. The network local computer 13 may be connected to one or more other networks, computer or not, such as a global computer network 17 (Internet), a switched telephone network 18 and another local computer network 19. The link between the local computer network 13 and the Internet 17 is typically via a DSL modem and that between the local computer network 13 and the other local computer network 19 through a proprietary line. As for the switched telephone network 18, it can be connected to a local switch from which lines of telephone connected to a patch panel of the local computer network 13, patch panel which is connected to the different network jacks of the local computer network 13 by RJ45 cables.

En variante, le second groupe de fils des câbles RJ45 connectés entre le panneau de brassage et les prises réseau peut servir à transmettre des signaux téléphoniques, pour permettre à des téléphones conventionnels 20 connectés à des prises réseau 21 du réseau informatique local 13 de communiquer avec le réseau téléphonique commuté 18.In the configuration illustrated in figure 3 , the first group of wires of each of the RJ45 cables of the local computer network 13 serves to transmit the computer data exchanged between them computers of the local network 13 as well as the computer data exchanged between these computers and the Internet network 17. second group of son, meanwhile, can be used to transmit the computer data exchanged between the computers of the local computer network 13 and the computers of the other local computer network 19. Alternatively, the second group of son RJ45 cables connected between the patch panel and network jacks can be used to transmit telephone signals, to enable conventional telephones connected to network jacks 21 of the local computer network 13 to communicate with the switched telephone network 18.

In practice, the interruption device 1 is placed next to the computer 14 to be made easily accessible to the user of the computer 14. The user can thus interrupt at will the physical link defined by the first group of son cables 16 connecting the computer 14 to the network jack 15, by a simple operation of the manual control member 11, to protect the computer 14 against possible computer intrusions from the network Internet 17 or even from the local network 13. The user can in particular trigger such an interruption when the computer 14 is not used or is used but not to exchange data with the networks 13, 17. Other reasons may cause the user to open the switches 8 of the interrupt device 1. For example, it may be useful to block the transmission of data between the computer 14 and the networks 13, 17 to carry out an antivirus check or other security in the computer 14, to manage to close the many display windows that open automatically (pop-up windows) when viewing certain Internet sites, or to facilitate the use of sensitive software that requires a lot of system resources, such as software for burning DVD discs, three-dimensional drawing, etc.

The transmission of telephone signals or computer data associated with the local network 19 in the second group of wires of the cables 16 is not affected by the opening of the switches 8 of the interruption device 1. Thus, in the first case, The telephone signals can continue to be exchanged, via the patch panel of the local computer network 13, between the switched telephone network 18 and a telephone 22 connected via an RJ45 socket to the input / output socket of the device. In the second case, the computer 14 can continue to exchange data with the local computer network 19. The latter possibility is of interest, in particular when, for certain reasons, it is imperative that the computer 1 be connected to the computer. computer 14 remains permanently connected to the local network 19 or when the data exchange with this local network 19 is considered sufficiently secure .

In another variant of application, the data exchanged between the computers of the local network 13 and the Internet 17 could be transmitted by the first group of wires of the RJ45 cables of the local network 13 and the data exchanged between the computers of the local network 13 by the second group of sons. Thus, in the open position, the interruption device 1 would protect the computer 14 against computer intrusions from the Internet 17 while allowing the data exchanged between the computer 14 and the other computers of the local network 13 to pass.

The figure 4 shows another example of a computer system in which the interruption device 1 according to the invention can be used. This system comprises a switched telephone network 23, a global computer network (Internet) 24 connected to the switched telephone network 23, an ADSL modem 25, a first input / output socket 26 is connected to the switched telephone network 23 via a telephone jack 27 and a telephone cable 28, an interruption device 1 according to the invention, a first input / output socket 29 is connected to a second input / output socket 30 of the modem 25 by a RJ45 type cable 31, and a computer 32 connected to a second input / output jack 33 of the interruption device 1 by a cable RJ45 type 34. Between the computer 32 and the modem 25, the first group of wires of the cables 31, 34 transmits the data exchanged with the Internet network 24. A cable 25a of the telephone or RJ45 type directly connects the telephone socket 27 to the first socket. input / output 29 of the interrupt device 1 to allow the exchange of telephone signals between the switched telephone network 23 and a telephone 35 connected to the second socket 33 of the interruption device 1 via a power strip, signals phone that the modem 25 can not handle. An opening of the switches 8 of the interrupt device 1 to protect the computer 32 against cyber attacks from the Internet 24 will not affect the communications between the telephone 35 and the switched telephone network 23.

The figure 5 shows an interruption device 1a according to a second embodiment of the invention. This second embodiment differs from the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. Figures 1 and 2 in that one of the two input / output jacks 3, 4, in this case jack 4, is replaced by two RJ45 jacks distinct 4a, 4b. The socket 4a is connected inside the housing 2a to the switches 8 and internal conductors 12a corresponding to the pairs of orange 7c, green 7d and brown 7f son and is intended to be connected externally to a computer by the cable 6, while the Another socket 4b is connected inside the housing 2a only to the two inner conductors 12a corresponding to the blue pair of wires 7e and serves as a telephone jack for receiving a plug of a third cable 6a. This embodiment avoids the use of a power strip to connect both a computer and a phone on the interruption device. Alternatively, the socket 4b could be a jack specifically designed for the phone, such as an RJ11 jack.

The figure 6 shows an interruption device 1b according to a third embodiment of the invention. This embodiment differs from the embodiment illustrated in FIG. figure 5 in that the internal conductors 12b corresponding to the pair of brown wires 7f are connected inside the housing 2b between the socket 3 and the socket 4b. Since the socket 4a is connected inside the housing 2b only to the switches 8, the cable 6 connected to this socket could, as a variant, have only the first group of wires 7c-7d.

The figure 7 shows an interruption device 1c according to a fourth embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, the interruption device 1c comprises, inside the housing 2c, a circuit 36 for detecting the data rate in the first group of wires 7a, and on an outer face of the housing 2c, an electroluminescent diode 37 connected to the circuit 36. The circuit 36 is of a type known per se. It is connected between the four switches 8 and one, 4, the input / output jacks 3, 4 and controls the flashing of the light emitting diode 37 according to the detected data rate. Thus, the user can constantly view the flow of data flowing in the first group of son 7a. An abnormally high rate may be the sign that a computer intrusion is in progress. The user can then immediately stop the intrusion by opening the switches 8 of the interruption device.

The figure 8 shows an interruption device 1d according to a fifth embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, the switches 8d of the interruption device 1d are relays controlled by a remote electrical source 38, such as a lighting switch, an alarm or an electric lock. The switches 8d can thus be automatically opened when the user leaves the room in which the interruption device 1d and the computer connected to it are located, more specifically when he switches off the lighting of the room, activates an alarm or close an electric lock giving access to the room.

The present invention has been described above by way of example only. It goes without saying that modifications could be made without departing from the scope of the claimed invention. For example, the interruption devices 1a, 1b and 1d according to the second, third and fifth embodiments of the invention could also be provided with a data rate detection circuit and a light emitting diode. Moreover, the present invention can be applied to standards other than the RJ45 standard, for example the USB standard. In the latter case, the interruption device comprises two switches respectively associated with the son of the green pair of white USB cables, pair that transmits the computer data, and transmission means without switches respectively associated with the son of the black red pair of USB cables, pair that transmits the supply voltage. In general, the present invention is not limited to a predetermined number of wires in the first and second wire groups of the communication line cables. Each of these first and second groups of threads could even have a single thread, in applications where this is possible.
