Description

Moteur à combustion interne avec stratification des gaz d'admission.
La présente invention se rapporte à la combustion dans l es moteurs à combustion interne, et plus particulièrement dans le s moteurs à allumage par compression, du type Diesel , pour véhicul es automobil es.
On utilise généralement dans les moteurs à combustion interne de ce type, un mélange d' air et de gaz d' échappement recyclés et donc appauvris en oxygène, pour l ' admission dans la chambre de combustion. Un tel mélange permet de réduire les émissions pol luantes ou, selon les cas, de contrôl er le déroulement de la combustion. Ces gaz d'échappement recyclés sont dits « gaz d' échappement recyclés externes » ou EGR (pour « Exhaust Gas Recirculation ») lorsqu' il s proviennent de la chambre de combustion et sont réintroduits à l ' admission par un circuit externe à la chambre de combustion. Ces gaz sont dits « internes » ou BGR (pour « Burned Gas Recirculation ») lorsqu' il s' agit de gaz résiduels de la combustion qui restent piégés dans la chambre de combustion. La présente invention se rapporte essentiellement à la gestion des gaz d' échappement recyclés externes (EGR) et à la manière d ' introduire ces gaz dans la chambre de combustion afin d' obtenir l es effets désirés, et en particulier une stratification des gaz admi s dans la chambre de combustion. La demande de brevet GB-A-2 328 716 (FORD) cherche à obtenir une stratification des gaz EGR dans la chambre de combustion autour de l ' axe du cylindre par introduction de ces gaz au moyen d ' un conduit spécifique qui vient amener les gaz EGR à l ' endroit de la soupape d' admi ssion. Le conduit d' admi ssion en air frais comporte un volet pivotant qui permet de réguler le débit des gaz frais dans le conduit d'admission. L'objectif recherché dans ce document antérieur est essentiellement de maintenir les gaz d'échappement recyclés au centre de la chambre de combustion. Le brevet US-A-5918577 décrit un système de stratification radiale de gaz brûlés dans la chambre de combustion d'un moteur à combustion interne par ré-aspiration à travers les soupapes d'échappement des gaz précédemment évacués lors de la phase d'échappement. Les gaz d'échappement en question sont donc des gaz résiduels, c'est-à-dire des gaz d'échappement recyclés dits
« internes ». La stratification de ces gaz brûlés autour de l'axe du cylindre est obtenue par un contrôle des débits d'échappement des gaz dans certaines zones de la chambre de combustion.
Le brevet US-A-6318 348 (VISTEON) évoque également une stratification radiale des gaz admis dans la chambre de combustion, l'ensemble de la charge étant mis en rotation suivant l'axe du cylindre et les gaz brûlés résiduels étant maintenus préférentiellement sur la circonférence du cylindre. Là encore, il s'agit d'une stratification des gaz d'échappement recyclés dits « internes », lesquels sont maintenus préférentiellement sur la circonférence du cylindre.
La demande de brevet britannique GB-A-2 298 896 (FORD) utilise deux conduits d'admission dont un est séparé en deux parties par une cloison, de façon à pouvoir introduire par la soupape d'admission correspondante, un mélange d'air et de gaz EGR. Une stratification radiale ou verticale est obtenue en contrôlant le débit des gaz EGR admis.
Une disposition un peu similaire est décrite dans la demande de brevet français FR-A-2860555 (RENAULT), dans laquelle un conduit d'admission est séparé en deux parties par une paroi mobile, permettant de modifier la section de passage pour les gaz EGR et pour le mélange d'air et de carburant admis.
La demande de brevet français FR-A-2 859765 (RENAULT) décrit l'utilisation de deux conduits d'admission recevant un mélange d'air et de gaz EGR, chacun des conduits pouvant en outre être alimenté en air ou en gaz EGR supplémentaire.
La demande de brevet britannique GB-A-2328980 (IFP) décrit un piquage d'un conduit de dérivation de gaz EGR dans le conduit d'admission d'air dans un cylindre et décrit en outre l'adjonction d'un dispositif permettant d'orienter les gaz admis en les collant contre les parois de la chambre de combustion afin d'obtenir une stratification radiale.
Dans tous ces dispositifs connus, lorsqu'une introduction de gaz EGR est prévue, celle-ci se fait en mélangeant les gaz EGR de façon homogène avec l'air admis grâce à un piquage pris sur la conduite d'échappement qui réinjecte les gaz EGR à l'admission.
On notera en outre que les gaz résiduels, c'est-à-dire les gaz d'échappement internes, sont plus chauds que les gaz d'échappement recyclés externes, de sorte que les problèmes qui se posent pour la stratification de ces gaz sont différents, selon qu'il s'agit de gaz résiduels ou de gaz externes.
Contrairement à ce qui est indiqué dans certains documents de l'art antérieur, la présente invention a pour objet de réaliser une stratification des gaz d'échappement recyclés externes (EGR) autour de l'axe du cylindre dans la chambre de combustion d'une manière particulièrement simple et efficace.
Dans un mode de réalisation, le moteur à combustion interne pour véhicule automobile, est du type comprenant plusieurs cylindres munis chacun d'au moins un conduit d'admission d'air et de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) et d'au moins un conduit d'échappement, un conduit de dérivation avec une vanne de régulation de débit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) reliant le conduit d'échappement au conduit d'admission en un point de jonction. Le conduit d'admission d'air comporte une vanne de régulation de débit d'air, montée dans le conduit d'admission d'air en amont du point de jonction. Des moyens de commande sont capables d'agir sur la vanne de régulation de débit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) et sur la vanne de régulation de débit d'air de façon à admettre alternativement par le conduit d'admission, soit de l'air soit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR). Ces moyens de commande peuvent par exemple comprendre une unité électronique de commande installée dans le véhicule automobile et convenablement programmée ou comprendre des circuits électroniques capables de délivrer des signaux de commande pour les vannes de régulation.
L'admission alternative d'air et de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) permet d'alimenter la chambre de combustion située dans le cylindre de manière séquentielle et d'obtenir ainsi une stratification des gaz d'échappement recyclés dans la chambre de combustion autour de l'axe du cylindre. En effet, la vitesse des gaz admis dépend de différents facteurs liés au fonctionnement du moteur et notamment de la vitesse et de la position du piston qui se déplace dans le cylindre. Les différents gaz étant admis séquentiellement dans la chambre de combustion, auront une vitesse différente entraînant une stratification de ces gaz dans la chambre de combustion.
De préférence, des moyens sont prévus pour réguler la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre.
Ces moyens peuvent comprendre par exemple un volet orientable monté dans le conduit d'admission d'air en aval du point de jonction. La commande de position d'un tel volet peut être assurée par des signaux générés par l'unité électronique de commande.
Dans un autre mode de réalisation, les moyens pour réguler Ia vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre peuvent comprendre des moyens pour commander les mouvements d'ouverture de soupapes d'admission. Ces moyens de commande peuvent par exemple comprendre des capteurs de vitesse et/ou de position du piston. Les signaux de ces capteurs peuvent être transmis à une unité électronique de commande générant des signaux de commande pour les soupapes d'admission.
Dans d'autres modes de réalisation, les moyens pour réguler la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre peuvent comprendre différents organes mobiles également utilisés pour piloter l'aérodynamique des gaz dans la chambre de combustion, par exemple un volet de swirl, c'est à dire un volet capable de créer un mouvement de rotation des gaz dans la chambre de combustion autour de l'axe du cylindre, ce mouvement étant appelé « swirl ».
L'invention peut également être appliquée au cas de moteurs comprenant plusieurs conduits d'admission pour chaque cylindre. Dans ce cas, chaque conduit d'admission comprend une vanne de régulation de débit d'air, montée dans le conduit d'admission d'air en amont du point de jonction.
Un autre aspect de l'invention concerne un procédé de commande de l'admission d'air et de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) dans un cylindre de moteur à combustion interne de véhicule automobile, dans lequel on admet dans le cylindre, alternativement soit de l'air soit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR). Selon un mode de mise en œuvre, on pilote les séquences d'admission alternatives en fonction de la position ou de la vitesse du piston dans le cylindre.
On peut commander également la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre.
L'invention sera mieux comprise à l'étude d'un mode de réalisation particulier décrit à titre d'exemple nullement limitatif et illustré par le dessin annexé, qui montre schématiquement en vue de dessus un cylindre de moteur à combustion interne et les différents conduits d'admission et d'échappement.
Tel qu'il est illustré sur la figure 1, la partie supérieure d'un cylindre 1 de moteur à combustion interne et en particulier de moteur à allumage par compression du type Diesel se trouve représentée schématiquement. Bien entendu, le moteur comprend plusieurs cylindres identiques. Différents orifices d'admission et d'échappement sont prévus à la jonction entre la culasse, non représentée, et le cylindre 1. Un premier conduit d'admission 3 débouche dans un premier orifice d'admission 4 et permet l'admission séquentielle, soit d'un flux d'air frais schématisé par la flèche 5, véhiculé dans une dérivation 3a, soit d'un flux de gaz d'échappement recyclés externes
EGR schématisé par la flèche 6, véhiculé dans une dérivation 3b.
Un deuxième conduit d'admission 7 débouche dans un deuxième orifice d'admission 8 et permet également l'admission, soit d'un flux d'air frais schématisé par une flèche 5, véhiculé dans une dérivation 7a, soit, de manière séquentielle, un flux de gaz d'échappement recyclés EGR symbolisé par une flèche 6 et véhiculé dans une dérivation 7b.
Le cylindre comprend également deux conduits d'échappement 9 et 10 qui débouchent chacun dans un orifice d'échappement 11, 12, et permettent l'échappement des gaz de combustion selon un flux matérialisé par la flèche 6 par un conduit d'échappement 13 dans lequel se rejoignent les deux conduits 9 et 10. Sensiblement dans l'axe du cylindre, se trouve monté un injecteur de carburant 14 capable d'injecter un nuage de carburant à un moment approprié dans la chambre de combustion.
Les quatre orifices, 4, 8, 11 et 12 sont, dans l'exemple illustré, disposés sensiblement à intervalles réguliers sur le pourtour du cylindre 1. Les orifices sont de section circulaire et peuvent être alternativement ouverts et fermés au moyen de soupapes, non représentées. Les orifices d'admission 4 et 8 sont disposés d'un même côté du cylindre 1, tandis que les orifices d'échappement 11 et 12 sont disposés de l'autre côté.
Un circuit externe de dérivation, matérialisé par le conduit 15, piqué sur le conduit d'échappement 13, permet la recirculation d'une partie des gaz d'échappement, représentés schématiquement par une flèche 6, en direction de l'admission. Une vanne commandée 16, dite « vanne EGR », permet de réguler le débit des gaz d'échappement recyclés EGR selon le fonctionnement du moteur à combustion. Dans chacun des conduits de dérivation 3a, 3b et 7a, 7b, se trouve disposée une vanne de régulation commandée. C'est ainsi que dans le conduit de dérivation 3a, est montée une vanne 17a et dans le conduit de dérivation 3b, une vanne 17b. De la même manière, dans le conduit de dérivation 7a, est montée une vanne 18a et dans le conduit de dérivation 7b, une vanne 18b. La commande de ces différentes vannes de régulation permet d'ouvrir ou de fermer les conduits de dérivation concernés. De cette manière, il est possible d'admettre dans l'orifice d'admission 4 par le conduit d'admission 3, alternativement, soit de l'air frais symbolisé par la flèche 5 par le conduit de dérivation 3a lorsque la vanne de régulation 17a est ouverte, soit un flux de gaz d'échappement recyclés symbolisé par la flèche 6 par le conduit de dérivation 3b lorsque la vanne de régulation 17b est ouverte. Lorsque la vanne de régulation 17a est ouverte, la vanne de régulation 17b est fermée et vice versa. De cette manière, les gaz admis par le conduit d'admission 3 sont séquentiellement de l'air frais, puis des gaz d'échappement recyclés EGR ou l'inverse.
On retrouve le même fonctionnement pour le conduit d'admission 7, qui peut véhiculer alternativement un flux d'air frais symbolisé par la flèche 5, par le conduit de dérivation 7a lorsque la vanne de régulation 18a est ouverte et, de manière séquentielle, un flux de gaz EGR par le conduit de dérivation 7b lorsque la vanne de régulation 18b est ouverte. De la même manière que pour les vannes de régulation 17a et 17b, les vannes de régulation 18a et 18b sont alternativement, soit ouvertes, soit fermées, et lorsque l'une d'entre elles est ouverte, l'autre est fermée, de sorte que le conduit d'admission 7 véhicule séquentiellement, soit un flux d'air frais, soit un flux de gaz EGR.
La vitesse des gaz admis par les conduits d'admission 3 et 7, est dépendante de la vitesse du piston qui se déplace à l'intérieur du cylindre 1. Les différents types de gaz étant admis dans la chambre de combustion de manière séquentielle, chaque séquence présentera donc une vitesse différente lors de l'admission dans la chambre de combustion. Ces différences de vitesse entre chaque type de gaz entraînent ainsi, selon l'invention, une stratification des gaz dans la chambre de combustion.
Grâce à l'invention, il devient donc possible de profiter de l'évolution de l'aérodynamique des gaz à l'intérieur de la chambre de combustion au cours du processus d'admission dans le cylindre pour obtenir la stratification désirée des différents gaz admis.
Dans l'exemple illustré sur la figure et à titre de variante optionnelle, on a en outre prévu dans les deux conduits d'admission 3 et 7 un volet orientable 19, 20, de façon à modifier la vitesse des gaz admis par les conduits d'admission 3 et 7.
On notera que les vannes de régulation 17a, 17b et 18a, 18b sont disposées dans les conduits de dérivation respectifs, 3a, 3b et 7a, 7b, en amont du point de jonction 21 ou 22, où les conduits de dérivation respectifs 3a, 3b et 7a, 7b se rejoignent pour former le conduit d'admission unique 3 ou 7. De cette manière, on comprend qu'une action de fermeture de l'une des vannes de régulation permet de bloquer totalement le flux du gaz considéré dans le conduit de dérivation à l'intérieur duquel est montée la vanne de régulation considérée. De cette manière, le flux de gaz admis pendant la séquence correspondant à la fermeture de l'une des vannes de régulation et à l'ouverture de l'autre vanne de régulation est bien un gaz constitué uniquement, soit d'air frais, soit de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR). Au contraire, les volets orientables 19, 20, lorsqu'ils sont prévus, sont montés dans les conduits d'admission 3, 7 en aval des points de jonction 21, 22 de manière à agir sur la vitesse du flux de gaz admis, quelle que soit sa nature.
La commande des différentes vannes de régulation 17a, 17b et 18a, 18b, comme de la vanne EGR 16, et des volets 19, 20 lorsqu'ils sont présents, est effectuée au moyen d'une unité électronique de commande 23, notée ECU sur la figure. Cette unité électronique de commande reçoit, par les connexions symbolisées par la flèche 24, différents paramètres du fonctionnement du moteur et peut générer différents signaux de commande qui sont transmi s par la connexion 25 à la vanne EGR 16, par les connexions 26 et 27 aux volets mobiles 19 et 20, par les connexions 28 et 29 aux vannes de régulation 17a et 17b, et par les connexions 30 et 31 aux vannes de régulation 18a et 18b. Les séquences de gaz admi s dans la chambre de combustion sont alors générées en fonction des stratégies de pilotage des vannes de régulation 17a, 17b et 18a, 18b définies par exempl e par un logici el de commande mémori sé dans l ' unité électronique de commande 23. De la même manière, la vitesse des gaz admis peut être pi lotée par la position des volets 19 et 20.
Grâce à l ' introduction de telles séquences de gaz différents dans la chambre de combustion avec des vitesses différentes, ces gaz ont tendance à se trouver sur un rayon différent autour de l ' axe du cylindre, assurant ainsi une stratification dans la chambre de combustion.
Il est également possible de tenir compte de signaux émanant de capteurs de la position ou de la vitesse de déplacement du piston dans le cylindre 1 , ces capteurs n' étant pas représentés sur la figure. Les signaux émis par de tels capteurs peuvent être pris en compte par l ' unité électronique de commande 23 pour agir sur l es stratégi es de pilotage des différentes vannes de régulation.
Dans un autre mode de régulation, non décrit sur l a figure, on peut égal ement envisager d' utiliser un dispositif de distribution variable en commandant de façon appropriée, par des si gnaux émis par l ' unité électronique de commande, les mouvements d' ouverture et de fermeture des soupapes d' admi ssion et d' échappement.
Bien que dans l ' exemple illustré, le cylindre 1 ait comporté deux conduits d' admission, on comprendra bien entendu que l'invention s'applique à d'autres structures, comportant par exemple un seul conduit d'admission.

Claims

REVENDICATIONS
1-Moteur à combustion interne pour véhicule automobile, du type comprenant plusieurs cylindres (1) munis chacun d'au moins un conduit d'admission (3, 7) d'air et de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) et d'au moins un conduit d'échappement (9, 10), un conduit de dérivation (15) avec une vanne (16) de régulation de débit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) reliant le conduit d'échappement au conduit d'admission en un point de jonction (21, 22), caractérisé par le fait que le conduit d'admission d'air (3a, 7a) comporte une vanne de régulation de débit d'air (17a, 18a), montée dans le conduit d'admission d'air en amont du point de jonction (21, 22) et que des moyens de commande (23) sont capables d'agir sur la vanne de régulation de débit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) et sur la vanne de régulation de débit d'air de façon à admettre alternativement par le conduit d'admission, soit de l'air soit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR).
2-Moteur selon la revendication 1, comprenant en outre des moyens pour réguler la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre.
3-Moteur selon la revendication 2, dans lequel les moyens pour réguler la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre comprennent un volet orientable (19, 20) monté dans le conduit d'admission d'air en aval du point de jonction.
4-Moteur selon la revendication 2, dans lequel les moyens pour réguler la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre comprennent des moyens pour commander les mouvements d'ouverture de soupapes d'admission.
5-Moteur selon l'une des revendications précédentes, comprenant plusieurs conduits d'admission pour chaque cylindre, dans lequel chaque conduit d'admission comprend une vanne de régulation de débit d'air, montée dans le conduit d'admission d'air en amont du point de jonction.
6-Procédé de commande de l'admission d'air et de gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR) dans un cylindre de moteur à combustion interne de véhicule automobile, caractérisé par le fait que l'on admet dans le cylindre, alternativement soit de l'air soit des gaz d'échappement recyclés (EGR).
7-Procédé selon la revendication 6, dans lequel on pilote les séquences d'admission alternatives en fonction de la position ou de la vitesse du piston dans le cylindre.
8-Procédé selon les revendications 6 ou 7, dans lequel on commande également la vitesse des gaz admis dans le cylindre.
