Description

The invention is in the field of further processing of printed products and relates to a cover sheet according to the preamble of the independent patent. The main function of the cover sheet is to make the printed product, which in particular is a newspaper or magazine with various inserts (eg other newspapers or magazines, brochures, brochures, CDs or other data carriers, sample items), suitable for distribution, that is easy to handle Unit to summarize. The invention also relates to a method for packaging newspapers or magazines by means of cover sheets.

It is known, in particular journals with supplements for the distribution individually beat in an at least partially transparent plastic film and to weld them to the magazine. This creates a ready for distribution magazine, which is firstly protected against external influences, especially against moisture and moisture, the second guarantees the new condition of the magazine, the third is visible through your transparency, the magazine with promotional promotional prints on the outside and the fourth the magazine with inserts, which are inserted in the magazine or loose added, to a more or less stable and easy to handle unit summarized. Such packaged printed products have first of all where they are distributed by mail, enforced, but are also more and more where the reader buys them from the distributor (eg kiosk). It is also already proposed to offer daily newspapers packed in the said manner.

On the other hand, however, the above-mentioned transparent plastic packaging has the disadvantage that, as soon as the printed product has reached the reader, it must be disposed of as waste and the packaging by wrapping in plastic film and welding with respect to time and space is very complicated. Since known devices for producing the packages usually have a very limited capacity, for the on-line processing of, for example, the products ejected from a rotary printing machine, a plurality of parallel-operating packaging devices must be provided. These, together with the means necessary for their feeding to divide the rotating printed product stream and the means also necessary for the recompression of the partial flows are a high investment and require a lot of space.

In the publications US 5632476 (F372) EP-0019606 or US 4160687 It is proposed to make journals for distribution easier to handle that at least one adhesive strip is glued to the front, stretched over an open magazine edge and glued on the back again. While these adhesive strips, when combined with the magazine and any inserts therein, are integral with each other, they are in no way capable of protecting them when used without coverslips.

In the publication EP-0676354 (F373) is also varruckt to provide printed products such as journals with a folded cover sheet and to close this suitably, so that also suitable for distribution Unit arises and the printed product is also protected at least to a limited extent. The cover sheet has, for example, a prefold, which is struck for the closure over the edge of the magazine and fixed on the opposite side of the cover sheet, for example by gluing. The advantage of packaging methods with the aid of cover sheets compared to the above-mentioned plastic film packaging method is that the same devices can be used for packaging as for assembling the printed product to be packaged (eg devices for inserting or collecting printed product parts or printed product and supplements), without these devices for the additional function would have to be significantly extended or adapted. Known devices for the mentioned steps also have capacities which are sufficient to be able to further process a stream of printed products designed for rotation without splitting on-line. Like the plastic film, however, the cover sheet is also an article which must be supplied in addition to the printed product and which must be disposed of as waste by the recipient immediately after delivery in a suitable manner. Furthermore, the cover sheet over the plastic film has the disadvantage that it is usually not transparent and therefore, if necessary, would have to be printed accordingly to identify the printed product.

The invention now has the task of further developing the cover sheet briefly described above for printed products, in particular for newspapers and magazines with inserts. The inventive cover sheet is intended to combine the advantages of the above-mentioned packaging in transparent plastic film and the packaging in a cover sheet as far as possible, but eliminate the disadvantages as possible. In other words, the cover sheet according to the invention should be suitable for combining the printed product into an easy-to-handle unit suitable for the distribution and for protecting it at least to a limited extent, whereby it should simply be possible to print the product without corresponding printing of the cover sheet identify, wherein it is the inventive cover sheet anyway make possible to package the printed products with known devices and high capacities, and wherein the inventive cover sheet in particular to reduce the waste problem of the packaging of plastic film or the known cover sheet relevant. Furthermore, it is the object of the invention to show a corresponding packaging method.

These objects are achieved by the cover sheet, or by the unit of cover sheet and printed product, in particular the unit of cover sheet, newspaper or magazine and supplements, and by the process for packaging newspapers and magazines as defined in the claims.

The inventive cover sheet has, as known such cover sheet, a rectangular or square format, which is substantially twice as large as the printed product to be packaged or it is slightly larger. The inventive cover sheet is made of paper or a plastic material having a rigidity such as paper and it is advantageously, also known cover sheet, folded into a front and a back or he has an approximately central back line with a structure that allows the bow simply bend or fold along this back line. In addition, the inventive cover sheet has at least one completely or partially punched-out area, wherein the punched-out area is equipped by the punching and optionally by a corresponding printing for a different function of the cover or packaging function.

A completely punched-out region of the cover sheet according to the invention is, in particular, a window through which relevant regions of the packaged printed product, in particular the title and / or headline of the packaged newspaper or magazine, are visible. A partially punched out, spielsweise by a perforation line limited and thus easily separable without the aid of the cover sheet area of the inventive cover sheet is equipped for example by appropriate printing or other equipment for another function. Such a detachable area is, for example, a reply card, a receipt, a collection object, a toy (eg puzzle or craft sheet), an envelope for a CD or other flat object or a part of said objects. The partial punching of a region may also refer to a surface layer of a multilayer cover sheet, the surface layer being adhered to an inner layer by a peelable adhesive and the punched-out region being peeled off and adhered elsewhere. As will be shown, a partially punched-out area can also be equipped as a means for closing the cover sheet around the printed products packed therein.

For packaging, the cover sheets according to the invention are laid around the printed products to be packaged, for which cover sheets and printed products are fed, for example, to a plug-in system. The cover sheets are first inserted into the Einsteckabteile and opened and then plugged the printed products in the cover sheet. To close the cover sheet adhesive strips are used for example in a conventional manner or it will be generated by spraying a plastic adhesive-like areas. For closing, the region of the cover sheet projecting above the printed products to be packaged may also be glued or stitched to other regions. Optionally, the portions of the cover sheet finished to close the cover sheet are appropriately prepared prior to the sealing step by local reinforcement, by application of adhesive, by partial separation from the cover sheet, by folding and / or by unfolding. Such preparatory steps may be performed during the manufacture of the coversheets and / or immediately before or during packaging.

The method according to the invention is carried out, for example, with the aid of a plug-in system (for example inserting drum), the plug-in system advantageously also being equipped for the steps of closing the cover sheets. It is also possible to bring together the newspaper or magazine in an additional aggregate and feed it together to the insertion system, wherein the inserts are added in Einstecksystem. The packaging, and in particular the sealing step, can also be carried out while the products are conveyed, for example, by one or more gripper conveyors.

FIGS. 1 to 3 show a first exemplary embodiment of a cover sheet 1. The printed product 2 packaged therein is in the illustrated case a magazine or a newspaper in tabloid format, but may as well be any other printed product such as a bound booklet or a twice folded newspaper. Together with said printed product 2 1 any supplements or other printed products can be accommodated in the cover sheet, which inserted into the first printed product and / or together with this form a stack. The cover sheet 1 has a front 1.1 and a back 1.2, which are connected to each other via a folding or back line 3. The cover sheet is sealed in a manner known per se to a packaging by glued over the open sides, adhesive strips 4. In addition, on the cover sheet 1, a contents identifying, electronic memory 5 may be arranged.

The front side 1.1 of the cover sheet 1 has, as a completely punched-out area, a window 6 which is positioned in such a way that, for example, the title and optionally the headline of the printed product 2 are thereby visible. The window 6 is optionally covered with a transparent material layer, wherein the transparent material layer may be mounted on the inside or outside of the cover sheet.

In addition to the window 6, the cover sheet according to FIGS. 1 to 3 only partially punched, for example, bounded by a perforation line and thus easily separable from the cover sheet areas 7, which are configured in the case shown by appropriate optionally double-sided printing as Bon 8 (front of the cover sheet) or sheet of trading cards 9 (back of the cover sheet). In the same way, for example, reply cards or folded sheets for creating three-dimensional constructs (craft arc) or flat as game objects and separable by perforation from the cover sheet areas 7 can be provided on the front or back of the cover sheet.

Another, only partially punched out area 7 of the cover sheet according to FIGS. 1 to 3 is equipped by a deposited on the inside of the cover sheet pocket layer 10 as a pocket for a CD 11 or other flat object. The pocket (partially punched-out area 7 and optionally transparent, transparent pocket layer 10 adhering thereto) can be open or completely closed on one side and can be easily separated from the cover sheet 1 as a whole. Of course, the pocket layer 10 may also be mounted on the outside of the cover sheet 1.

The in the FIGS. 1 to 3 shown adhesive strips 4, by means of which the cover sheet is closed after the introduction of the printed product, are advantageously mounted before the bringing together of cover sheet and printed product on the cover sheet and are placed after contacting the printed product edge and pressed on the opposite side. Obviously, instead of adhesive tape to be supplied separately, cover sheet areas protruding beyond the printed product or over the edge of the cover sheet may also be coated with an adhesive and placed around the printed product edge after being brought into contact with the printed product and adhered to the opposite side or fastened in another suitable manner , Such protruding areas are advantageously present formed the bringing together of cover sheet and printed product (eg by cutting away or punching out of adjacent areas) and coated with adhesive.

FIG. 4 shows a similar cover sheet, as the cover sheet according to FIGS. 1 to 3 , which in turn has a window 6 on its front side 1.1. Further partially punched-out areas 7 are provided on a front side 1.1 projecting portion 20 of the cover sheet back side 1.2, wherein the projecting portion 20 of the cover sheet is advantageously folded into the cover sheet and is unfolded for the separation of the partially punched out areas 7. Of course, it is also possible to attach such a folded region on the inside of the cover sheet 1 and thereby form one or more pockets, which are then separated along a corresponding perforation line as a whole from the cover sheet 1. An area 20 projecting beyond the back or front of the cover sheet, as seen in FIG FIG. 4 can also serve at least partially as a closure means by being placed over the printed product edge and attached to the opposite side of the cover sheet, for example by gluing. Of the in the FIG. 4 Thus, for example, the outer two shown, separable regions 20 could be coated on the inside with adhesive and attached to the closing of the cover sheet 1 on the front side 1.1.

If in the FIG. 4 shown, the rear side 1.2 superior cover sheet area 20 is folded only after the joining of cover sheet and printed product inward, it can be previously used in a conventional manner in the sense of a prefold for opening the cover sheet.

FIGS. 5 to 7 show an embodiment of a cover sheet. 1 FIG. 5 shows the empty cover sheet 1 from the front, FIGS. 6 and 7 show the filled with a printed product 2 and sealed cover sheet 1, wherein he in FIG. 6 seen from the front and in FIG. 7 cut (section line VII-VII in FIG. 6 ) is shown.

The cover sheet has, in addition to a window 6, which is aligned for example on the title of the printed product 2, two mutually aligned, partially punched out areas 7, which are equipped for a closing function. The partially punched out areas 7, of which in FIGS. 5 and 6 only that in the front 1.1 of the cover sheet 1 is visible, are limited by a cutting line 21 and a pre-folded line 22, wherein the pre-folded line 22 is directed against the edge of the cover sheet 1 and formed for a folding of the area 7 to the outside of the cover sheet is. To close the two partially punched out areas 7 are folded outwards, placed over the edge of the cover sheet and connected to each other, for example by gluing, embossing or stapling (staple 23), as best of the FIG. 7 is apparent.

Advantageously, the cover sheets are prepared immediately prior to being brought into contact with the printed products for the closing step by moving the partially punched-out portions outwards and folding them. Optionally, the pre-folded lines 22 and in particular their end regions can be reinforced by applying a reinforcing layer.

FIGS. 8 and 9 show a further exemplary embodiment of a cover sheet 1, in which a printed product 2 is packaged ready. FIG. 8 shows the packaging from the front and FIG. 9 in section (section line IX-IX, FIG. 8 ). The illustrated, not completely punched out area 7 of the cover sheet 1 is equipped for a window function and a closing function simultaneously. The area 7 is the same size as one for the title and / or the headline of the packaged Printed product to be provided window and is punched out on three sides. The directed against the edge of the cover sheet 1 boundary line 22 of the area 7 is prefolded. Before, during or after the introduction of the printed product 2 into the cover sheet 1, the punched-out area 7 is folded outwards along the pre-folded boundary line 22. For closing the cover sheet 1, the partially punched-out area 7 is folded over the open edge of cover sheet 1 and printed product 2 and attached to the back of 1.2 of the cover sheet 1, for example, glued. Also in this embodiment, it may be useful to reinforce the cover sheet area between pre-folded line 22 and cover sheet edge with a suitable reinforcing layer.

Obviously, the characteristics of the in the FIGS. 1 to 9 Cover sheet shown, or packaged in the cover sheet printed products are combined differently than shown in the figures. The illustrated means for closing the cover sheet can be arranged on the edge opposite the folding back of the cover sheet or even spielspielsweise on all three open edges of the package. Appropriately adapted means for closing can also be provided on the corners opposite the fold back. By the said other combinations of features and by the mentioned feature variants arise further embodiments of the cover sheet, which also belong to the invention.
