Since known devices for producing the packages usually have a very limited capacity, for the on-line processing of, for example, the products ejected from a rotary printing machine, a plurality of parallel-operating packaging devices must be provided. Furthermore, the cover sheet over the plastic film has the disadvantage that it is usually not transparent and therefore, if necessary, would have to be printed accordingly to identify the printed product.

The invention now has the task of further developing the cover sheet briefly described above for printed products, in particular for newspapers and magazines with inserts. The inventive cover sheet is intended to combine the advantages of the above-mentioned packaging in transparent plastic film and the packaging in a cover sheet as far as possible, but eliminate the disadvantages as possible. In other words, the cover sheet according to the invention should be suitable for combining the printed product into an easy-to-handle unit suitable for the distribution and for protecting it at least to a limited extent, whereby it should simply be possible to print the product without corresponding printing of the cover sheet identify, wherein it is the inventive cover sheet anyway make possible to package the printed products with known devices and high capacities, and wherein the inventive cover sheet in particular to reduce the waste problem of the packaging of plastic film or the known cover sheet relevant. These objects are achieved by the cover sheet, or by the unit of cover sheet and printed product, in particular the unit of cover sheet, newspaper or magazine and supplements, and by the process for packaging newspapers and magazines as defined in the claims.

The inventive cover sheet has, as known such cover sheet, a rectangular or square format, which is substantially twice as large as the printed product to be packaged or it is slightly larger. For packaging, the cover sheets according to the invention are laid around the printed products to be packaged, for which cover sheets and printed products are fed, for example, to a plug-in system. The cover sheets are first inserted into the Einsteckabteile and opened and then plugged the printed products in the cover sheet.
