  • the mounting location of the flange member 51 of the exhaust housing and the peripheral ring 13 of the ring shaped insert is such that an axially extending clearance 57 is established therebetween as best seen in Fig. 6 .
  • Another radially extending portion 59 of the exhaust housing is axially spaced from the peripheral ring in order to provide another radially extending clearance 61 by means of which any contact between the exhaust housing and the ring shaped insert 11 of the variable nozzle device is avoided.
  • An outer gas outlet portion 63 of the exhaust housing 47 is formed as a sleeve encompassing an inner gas outlet portion 65 of the variable nozzle device, said portion 65 being formed as an axial tubular extension of the insert's outer ring 15. Between these two portions there is an axially extending clearance of preferably 0.05 - 0.15 mm, which is small enough to avoid gas leakage and in the same time big enough to provide appropriate mechanical decoupling between the exhaust housing and the ring shaped insert 11.
  • sealing elements including a piston ring 67 interposed in a recess formed in the inner gas outlet portion 65, as well as two recesses 69 formed in the outer gas outlet portion of the exhaust housing and serving as means for damping the turbulence of gas leaking from the exhaust housing.
  • Figs. 1 to 6 illustrating an embodiment of the present invention reveal also further details of the turbocharger construction.
  • Fig. 5 shows a locking dowel 24 which prevents the nozzle ring 23 from rotation in relation to the center housing 1.
  • Fig. 3 shows an additional elastic sealing member 60 closing the clearance 61 without impairing the mechanical and thermal decoupling between the insert and the exhaust housing.
  • one aspect of the present invention is to mechanically and/or thermally decouple the exhaust housing from the variable nozzle device, since the exhaust housing is subject to high mechanical and/or thermal loads.
  • the compact hut-like insert accommodating the nozzle ring and thus forming a cartridge including all nozzle components helps to prevent nozzle component deformation and consequently prevents sticking or binding of the vanes.
  • the exhaust housing encloses completely the cartridge of the variable nozzle device and the peripheral ring thereof is axially aligned with the flange member of the exhaust housing so that both the peripheral ring and the flange member can be abutted against one and the same radially extending sealing member 55 supported on a flange portion of the center housing
  • other modifications or configurations of the mounting arrangement for the variable nozzle device cartridge and the exhaust housing to the center housing are possible.
  • bolts 21 may be eliminated and the complete variable nozzle device coupled to the center housing by use of indirect contact provided by fastening member 49.
  • the periphery of the center housing can be provided with an inner recess in which the peripheral ring 13 engages.
  • variable nozzle device as including a nozzle ring 23 fitted for carrying a plurality of vane pins 25 arranged on the nozzle ring circumferentially around the turbine 5 and fixedly mounted to pivoting vanes 27, other modifications or configurations of the variable nozzle device are possible.
  • the vanes could be of the known type of vane that control the exhaust gas flow by sliding radially and/or axially rather than, or in addition to, using a pivoting motion.
  • the exhaust housing can be for example produced of a sheet metal or by a simplified casting method, for example by thin casting technology using lower grades of exhaust housing material.

Claims (16)

  1. Turbocompresseur comprenant :
    un boîtier central (1) ;
    un boîtier d'échappement (47) fixé au boîtier central (1) ;
    un ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable positionné entre le boîtier central (1) et le boîtier d'échappement (47), ledit ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable comprenant :
    une couronne d'ajutage (23) ;
    un insert (11) ayant une couronne externe (15) ;
    des pieds (17) pour maintenir un espace prédéterminé entre ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) et ladite couronne externe (15) ;
    une pluralité d'ailettes (27) situées dans ledit espace entre ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) et
    ladite couronne externe (15) ;
    une pluralité de clavettes d'ailettes (25) fixées respectivement auxdites ailettes (27) et agencées à rotation dans des trous de ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) ;
    des bras d'ailette (29) situés dans le côté de ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) en regard desdites ailettes (27) et fixés auxdites clavettes d'ailettes (25) ;
    une couronne d'actionnement (31) supportée à rotation sur ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) ;
    ladite couronne d'actionnement (31) ayant des fentes dans lesquelles lesdits bras d'ailette (29) s'engagent afin d'entraîner en rotation lesdites ailettes (27) par une rotation de ladite couronne d'actionnement (31) ;
    caractérisé par
    une pluralité de rouleaux (33) montés à rotation sur des chevilles (35), lesdites chevilles (35) étant supportées dans des trous correspondants formés dans ladite couronne d'ajutage (23) ;
    ladite couronne d'actionnement (31) étant supportée à rotation sur sa périphérie interne par lesdits rouleaux (33) ; et
    ledit ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable formant une unité modulaire et étant prévu pour être assemblé indépendamment dudit boîtier central (1) et dudit boîtier d'échappement (47) sous forme d'organe séparé.
  2. Turbocompresseur selon la revendication 1, comprenant en outre un bras d'actionnement (37), une tige d'actionnement (39) et une manivelle d'actionnement (41) qui sont fixés au boîtier central (1) séparément dudit ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable.
  3. Turbocompresseur selon la revendication 1 ou 2, dans lequel lesdits rouleaux (33) comprennent des gorges circonférentielles, ladite couronne d'actionnement (31) étant engagée avec lesdites gorges circonférentielles formées dans lesdits rouleaux (33).
  4. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3, dans lequel ladite couronne d'actionnement est supportée axialement par lesdits rouleaux (33).
  5. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4, dans lequel ledit insert (11) est formé en tant qu'organe intégral.
  6. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5, dans lequel lesdits bras d'ailette (29) sont attachés auxdites clavettes d'ailettes (25) par soudage.
  7. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6, dans lequel ledit insert (11) en forme de couronne peut être attaché audit boîtier central (1).
  8. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7, dans lequel une couronne périphérique (13) dudit insert (11) en forme de couronne est espacée axialement du boîtier d'échappement (47), de manière à éviter tout contact entre le boîtier d'échappement et la couronne périphérique (13).
  9. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 8, dans lequel ledit boîtier d'échappement (47) est monté directement sur ledit boîtier central (1) portant un arbre (3) avec une roue de turbine (5), de sorte que les deux boîtiers (1, 47) définissent un espace interne à dans lequel ledit ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable et ladite roue de turbine (5) sont situés.
  10. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 9, dans lequel ledit boîtier d'échappement (47) comprend une portion d'entrée de gaz (53) attachée audit boîtier central (1) et une portion de sortie de gaz (63) englobant, avec un dégagement s'étendant axialement, une portion de sortie de gaz (65) de l'ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable.
  11. Turbocompresseur selon la revendication 10, dans lequel la portion d'entrée de gaz (53) du boîtier d'échappement (47) comprend un organe de bride (51) en butée axiale par le biais d'un élément d'étanchéité (55) avec le boîtier central (1) et monté sur celui-ci par un organe d'attache (49).
  12. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 11, comprenant en outre un système d'étanchéité (65, 67) destiné à éviter une fuite de gaz entre le boîtier d'échappement (47) et l'ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable.
  13. Turbocompresseur selon la revendication 12, dans lequel le système d'étanchéité (65, 67) comprend un retrait circonférentiel formé dans ladite portion de sortie de gaz (65) de l'ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable et contenant un segment de piston (67), comprenant en outre au moins un autre retrait circonférentiel (69) formé dans ladite portion de sortie de gaz (63) dudit boîtier d'échappement (47) et ouverte sur ledit dégagement s'étendant axialement entre le côté d'entrée de gaz dudit boîtier d'échappement (47) et le segment de piston (67).
  14. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 13, dans lequel ladite couronne d'ajutage est poussée axialement par la couronne périphérique (13) contre un organe de disque annulaire (45) supporté sur ledit boîtier central (1).
  15. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 10 à 14, dans lequel ladite portion d'entrée de gaz (53, 51) du boîtier d'échappement (47) englobe, avec un autre dégagement s'étendant axialement (57), la couronne périphérique (13) dudit ensemble de cartouche d'ajutage variable.
  16. Turbocompresseur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 11 à 15, dans lequel ladite couronne périphérique (13) est en butée contre le même élément d'étanchéité (55) par le biais duquel l'organe de bride (51) du boîtier d'échappement (47) est fixé sur le boîtier central (1).
