- a sleeve slidable from above into the container such that the height of the drain is adjustable.

Description

  • The invention relates to a drain for discharging a liquid, for instance water.
  • When drains are placed in a floor, the drain is usually first connected to a drain pipe, and the top side of the drain is aligned at a height which is flush with that of the floor to be arranged later. Concrete is then poured over the drain pipe and a part the drain, and tiles or the like are then optionally placed. If the alignment has been carried out correctly during placing of the drain, the upper surface of the drain will be flush with the surface of the tiles after pouring of the floor and the arranging of the tiles. The alignment of the floor can however be disturbed during pouring of the floor, or it is possible that for instance a thicker or thinner tile is chosen after the floor has been poured. As a result it can occur that the upper surface of the drain is no longer aligned with the upper surface of the final floor. This causes problems.
  • It is therefore an object of the invention to alleviate or even prevent the above stated drawbacks.
  • This object is achieved with a drain according to the invention, which drain comprises;
    • a container which is open on the top side and which is provided with a discharge opening for discharging liquid flowing into the container; and
    • a sleeve slidable from above into the container such that the height of the drain is adjustable.
  • Using such a drain the container can be placed, and the floor can subsequently be poured without alignment. Once the floor is finished, the sleeve can then be pushed into the container. The sleeve is pushed so far into the container that the top side of the sleeve lies flush with the upper surface of the floor or at a distance below it as desired. It is thus possible to arrange the container in the floor without alignment, and to only adjust the drain later by means of the slide-in sleeve.
  • A preferred embodiment of the drain according to the invention comprises a siphon which can be placed in the sleeve and which seals against the inner wall and which debouches in the container.
  • The siphon is preferably height-adjustable so that this height can be adjusted simultaneously with the height of the drain.
  • Highly recommended is an embodiment wherein the siphon comprises at least two parts sliding telescopically into each other.
  • In another embodiment of the drain according to the invention markings are arranged on the sleeve for the purpose of shortening the sleeve. Since the container is now placed in the floor without alignment, the distance between the container and the upper surface of the floor can vary. It may hereby be necessary to adjust the height of the sleeve. The height of the sleeve can be modified in simple manner on the basis of the markings.
  • The markings are preferably formed by ridges arranged on the outer wall of the sleeve. The markings can also be formed by printing on the outer wall of the sleeve.
  • In a further preferred embodiment of the drain according to the invention a rubber adjusting ring is arranged between the container and the sleeve. By means of this rubber adjusting ring the sleeve can be tilted to some extent relative to the container while a good sealing is maintained between the container and the sleeve. It thus becomes possible to compensate for errors in the alignment of the container. If for instance the container is placed at an angle to the upper surface of the floor, this difference in angle can be compensated by means of the rubber adjusting ring, and the sleeve can still be arranged properly flush with the floor surface.
  • In yet another embodiment of the drain according to the invention a grating holder is arranged on the sleeve. The appearance of the drain is modified to the wishes of the user by means of the grating.
  • In a further recommended embodiment the grating holder is an elongate gutter. Elongate gutters are currently very desirable. A good fitting to the top surface of the floor is particularly necessary in the case of such gutters. This good fitting can be ensured by means of the drain according to the invention.
  • In yet another embodiment of the drain according to the invention the sleeve is substantially closed on the top side, and comprises an eccentric opening onto which the grating holder debouches. It is hereby possible by rotating the sleeve to modify the position of the grating holder relative to the container of the drain, and the grating holder can thus be laid properly between for instance tiles.
  • The invention further comprises a method for placing a drain according to the invention, comprising the steps of:
    • placing the container on a surface and connecting the discharge opening to an outlet;
    • pouring a cement floor around the container;
    • shortening the sleeve;
    • sliding the sleeve into the container such that the upper edge of the sleeve is situated below the upper surface of the floor.
  • A preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention further comprises the steps of:
    • placing a filler piece in the container;
    • finishing the cement floor on the basis of the upper surface of the filler piece.
  • By placing a filler piece in the container the container is on the one hand closed so that no mortar can drop into the drain, and the filler piece can on the other hand be used for correct finishing of the upper surface of the cement floor. The filler piece preferably has an adjustable upper surface here so that the upper surface of the cement floor can be set to the desired correct height.
  • These and other features of the invention are further elucidated on the basis of the accompanying drawings.
  • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first embodiment of a drain according to the invention.
  • Figures 2-4 show the different steps of performing the method according to the invention.
  • Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of a drain according to the invention.
  • Figure 6 is a perspective view of a third embodiment of a drain according to the invention.
  • Figure 1 shows a drain 1 according to the invention. This drain 1 has a container 2 having on the underside a connection 3 for connection to an outlet.
  • Pushed into container 2 is a sleeve 4 onto which is placed a grating holder 5 with a grating 6. The height h of grating holder 5 and grating 6 can be varied by sliding sleeve 4 to a greater or lesser extent into container 2.
  • Figure 2 shows the method according to the invention. A container 8 with a side connection for an outlet 13 is placed for this purpose on a surface 7. Placed onto container 8 is a filler piece 9 on which an adjustable upper surface 10 is arranged. This adjustable upper surface is adjustable relative to filler piece 9 by means of a screw thread 11.
  • Floor 12 is then poured as shown in figure 3, wherein the upper surface of part 10 is for instance used as reference. The upper surface of filler piece 9 itself can for instance be used to arrange a gutter in the poured floor. Tiles 14 can for instance then be placed on the floor.
  • Figure 4 shows the formed floor and filler piece 9 with upper surface 10. An elongate gutter with a sleeve arranged thereon can then be placed in the floor in simple manner. A suitable drain is shown for instance in figure 5. This drain 15 has a container 8 with a lateral connection 13 for a drain pipe. The elongate grating holder 16 has on the underside a sleeve 17 which can be pushed into container 8. In order to compensate for angular differences a rubber adjusting ring 18 is provided in container 8, whereby sleeve 17 can tilt relative to container 8.
  • Further arranged in sleeve 17 is a siphon which is constructed from a first siphon part 19 and a second siphon part 20. Such a construction as shown in figure 5 can be readily cleaned since siphon 19, 20 can be easily removed from sleeve 17.
  • The first siphon part 19 slides telescopically in second siphon part 20. The height of the water trap in the siphon can hereby be adapted to the height of sleeve 17. The height of the water trap is defined by the height difference between openings 30 and 31. Sealing is ensured by O- rings 32 and 33.
  • If rubber adjusting ring 18 can be omitted, it is possible to opt for integral embodiment of container 8 and second siphon part 20.
  • Finally, figure 6 shows a third embodiment 21 of a drain according to the invention. This drain has a container 22 with a connection 23 arranged on the underside. A sleeve 24 with a substantially closed upper surface 25 is pushed into container 22. Arranged in this closed upper surface 25 is an eccentric opening 26 into which protrudes a pipe 27 of grating holder 28. Because opening 26 is eccentric, the position of grating holder 28 can be varied by rotating sleeve 24 relative to container 22. Because pipe 27 is moreover arranged eccentrically relative to grating holder 28, this results in more variation in positioning of grating holder 28.
  • Further shown in figure 6 is a grating 29 which can for instance be placed in grating holder 28 of drain 21.
