Definitions
- the invention relates to an ultrasonic transducer and an ultrasonic sensor and to a method for the production thereof according to the preamble of patent claims 1, 4, 5 and 10.
- Ultrasonic sensors that operate according to the pulse-echo principle are suitable for non-contact detection of objects within a detection area.
- a transducer generates a burst or a short ultrasonic wave packet. This propagates into the room according to the directional characteristic of the transducer. If an object is within the detection range of the sensor, a part of the sound waves is usually reflected back towards the transducer. After sending out the ultrasonic burst, the transducer is switched as a receiver and receives the object-reflected echo signal.
- the transit time or the duration between the emission of the burst and the reception of the echo is a measure of the distance of the object from the sensor at a known sound velocity in the propagation medium.
- the temperature of the propagation medium can be detected and, for example, a correction factor can be calculated based on an allocation table, which determines the temperature dependence of the Sound velocity compensated in the propagation medium.
- separate transmit and receive transducers may also be used. Piezoceramic transducers are widely used to generate and receive ultrasound signals.
- a matching layer serves as an acoustic impedance converter between the reverberant piezoceramic disk and the liquid or gaseous propagation medium.
- the thickness of the matching layer is dimensioned so that at a resonant frequency of the vibration system as large a part of the sound energy is transmitted to the surrounding medium. Ideally, the thickness of the matching layer is about one quarter of the resonant wavelength in the matching layer.
- the chemical resistance of ultrasonic sensors can be improved, for example, by adhering a film of Teflon to the front side of the transducer, and installing such transducers in a sensor housing made of high-alloy steel or Teflon.
- Sticking such a protective layer on the matching layer (and optionally on the matching layer sheathing damping ring) by means of an adhesive can massively deteriorate the radiation characteristics and the damping characteristics of the transducer.
- there is a risk that the bond may change due to mechanical and thermal effects or even dissolve. This is especially true for Teflon and Teflon-like materials, which can be difficult to bond.
- Teflon film adhered to the front of the transducer In conventional ultrasonic sensors with tubular or sleeve-like housings and with increased protection against aggressive ambient media, it is known to insert the transducer and the associated sensor electronics from the front into a highly alloyed steel sleeve and to hold the front by means of a steel sleeve radially superior head part or clamp , The housing, which surrounds the converter and the electronics, is thus multi-part and has in the region of the sensor head with the converter has a larger outer diameter. This severely limits the possibilities for mounting the sensor.
- the present invention has for its object to provide an ultrasonic transducer and an ultrasonic sensor with improved protection against aggressive chemicals and a method for producing such ultrasonic transducers and ultrasonic sensors. Another object of the invention is to provide the means for protecting the ultrasonic transducer and the ultrasonic sensor so that the ultrasonic sensor can be easily mounted.
- FIG. 1 schematically shows an ultrasound transducer 1, also referred to as transducer or transducer for short. It comprises as oscillating body a piezoceramic disk 3 metallized on both sides, which is glued coaxially to a cylindrical or disk-like matching layer 5 with the same or larger diameter.
- the composite of piezoceramic disk 3 and matching layer 5 is embedded in a damping body 7, for example a polyurethane foam, with the exception of a front-side radiating surface 8 within a can-shaped or pot-like transducer housing 9.
- the converter housing 9 is preferably an at least partially metal-coated plastic housing or a metallic housing, which can be used as an electromagnetic shield for the piezoceramic disk 3.
- the metallizations or electrodes of the piezoceramic disk 3 are connected, for example by means of bonded or soldered strands or cables with contact points on the transducer housing 9 (not shown). Alternatively, you can also use the electrodes connected connection cable through openings at the back of the transducer housing 9 led out of this (not shown). At least the front side of the transducer, but preferably also the lateral surface and possibly the rear side are coated with a thin parylene 11. Such Parylenetiken 11 can be applied in vacuum by condensation from the gas phase as pore-free and transparent polymer film on almost any substrates such as metal, glass, paper, paint plastic, ceramic, ferrite and silicone.
- the parylene layer 11 may have a thickness d of the order of about 0.5 microns to about 200 microns.
- the layer thickness d is preferably about 5 ⁇ m to about 50 ⁇ m, for example about 10 ⁇ m.
- Such layer thicknesses can be deposited on the transducer in one operation.
- Parylene has a high degree of fissuring and goes on the surface of the transducer without additional adhesive layer an intimate connection with the matching layer 5, the damping body 7 and the transducer housing 9 a. The deposition or coating takes place in vacuo at room temperature. In piezoceramic oscillating bodies, there is no danger that the Curie temperature could be exceeded.
- the protective layer of parylene is so thin and uniform that it can not or only insignificantly influence the acoustic properties of the ultrasound transducer 1.
- An ultrasonic transducer 1 protected in this way against aggressive chemicals can be incorporated in an ultrasonic sensor 13, as shown in FIG.
- a coating of parylene is biostable and biocompatible.
- the ultrasound sensor 13 could also be coated completely or at least in the region of the transducer with parylene.
- the Parylenebe Anlagenung 11 is temperature resistant to about 220 ° C, so their properties at realistic working temperatures up to 100 ° C barely.
- Parylene is an excellent electrical insulator with high dielectric strength. This enables applications with increased requirements regarding explosion protection.
- the ultrasonic sensor 13 comprises a tubular or sleeve-shaped housing 15.
- the housing 15 is made of a material resistant to aggressive media such as acids or solvents such as high alloy steel or Teflon or has a corresponding protective layer on its surface.
- the housing 15 surrounds the ultrasonic transducer 1 at its front end and is integrally formed at least in the region of this transducer 1 and comprises on its outer lateral surface an external thread 17 which extends preferably over the entire length 1 of the lateral surface extends.
- a circuit board 19 attached to the transducer housing 19 with the sensor electronics is also at least partially encased by the housing 15.
- the electrical connection between the sensor electronics and the transducer 1 can take place, for example, by means of contact pins or contacts with spring or insulation displacement terminals or by means of leads soldered to contact points on the printed circuit board 19 (not shown).
- the rear end of the circuit board 19 comprises contact elements 21 for a connector and extends beyond the rear end of the housing 15.
- a plastic end cap 23 is inserted from behind into the housing 15 and positively or positively connected thereto.
- a positive connection for example, on the inside of the housing 15 corresponding holding devices such as grooves or projecting webs and on the end cap 23 thus corresponding fastening means such as locking tongues may be formed.
- the end cap 23 forms at the same time together with the contact elements 21 or the contact elements 21 connectable contacts the plug connection.
- FIG. 4 shows a detail of a longitudinal section through such an ultrasonic sensor 13 in the region of the ultrasonic transducer 1.
- One or more housings 15 prepared in this way are subsequently held in a mounting device (not shown) with the front side downwards.
- the printed circuit boards 19 are guided, for example, by means of a vertically guided displaceable clamping device and pressed with definable pressure forward against the transducer housing 9.
- the converter housing 9 in turn are pressed in the region of their front edge against the elastically yielding O-rings 31.
- a hardening casting resin eg an epoxy casting resin
- another curing adhesive is filled into the housing 15 until the level of the casting resin compound is at least above the notch 29.
- the housing 15 could also be set in a rotary motion and, instead of or in addition to gravity, a centrifugal force could be used to fill the housing 15. After curing of the casting resin, the clamping device is released again.
- the Giessharzpfropfen adhere to the inside of the housing and have in the region of the notch 29 at the same time a positive connection with the housing 15.
- Each ultrasonic transducer 7 is further pressed against the respective O-ring 31, thus forming a close completion of the front side of the ultrasonic sensor 13 to the environment.
- the O-ring 31 is made of an aggressive chemical resistant material such as a fluoroelastomer, perfluoroelastomer or ethylene-propylene terpolymer.
- the front side of the ultrasonic sensor 13, which can come into contact with aggressive substances, is thus completely protected against damaging effects of such substances.
- the end cap 23 By sliding the end cap 23 and contacting the contact elements 21 of the ultrasonic sensor 13th completed.
- this rear end of the ultrasonic sensor 13 could be equipped with improved protection against chemicals.
- the ultrasonic sensor 13 with its continuous external thread 17 can be easily mounted so that only its protected front side can come into contact with aggressive media.
- the housing 5 is integrally formed in the region of the receptacle for the ultrasonic transducer 1 and no radially above the housing shell with the external thread 17 protruding parts, and that the end cap 23 does not protrude radially beyond the external thread 17 ,

Abstract
