Abstract
Description
- The present invention concerns a window or door post.
- As is known, a window or door is formed of a fixed frame in which a leaf is hinge-mounted.
- The jambs and joists of the fixed frame and of the leaf are formed of posts.
- Known posts for leaves of windows and doors as is known consist of an inner shell and an outer shell that are mutually connected by means of a thermal bridge.
- The inner shell of such posts is usually formed of a socket on whose side wall, directed towards the thermal bridge, are provided protrusions forming a seat for said thermal bridge.
- On an adjacent side wall of the socket, which side is situated on the circumferential side of the leaf of the window or door, are usually provided two parallel, standing ribs extending in the longitudinal direction of the post and containing cross collars directed towards each other on their free edges.
- As is known, these ribs and the accompanying cross collars form what is called a metalwork groove forming a guide for a locking mechanism of a window or door of which the post is a part.
- Further, on the above-mentioned 'adjacent' side wall of the socket is provided a leg extending in the same direction as the above-mentioned legs and which is preferably situated in one and the same plane as the side of the socket situated opposite the thermal bridge of the post.
- This leg, as is known, forms a stop for the fixed frame of the window or door concerned.
- Also the jambs and joists of the fixed frame are provided with a leg forming a stop, which leg can work in conjunction with the outer shell of a corresponding post of the leaf of the window or door.
- A disadvantage of such known window or door posts is that, when the leg of the fixed frame that forms a stop is folded down, the metalwork groove of the window becomes easily accessible, such that one of the ribs forming this groove can be easily folded down, as a result of which the locking mechanism can be operated from the outside of the window so as to open the latter.
- It is clear that such a manipulation must be prevented or hindered so as to prevent any attempt at burglary.
- In order to hinder any access to the locking mechanism,
BE 2005/0327 - In the above-mentioned manner, folding down the leg which forms a stop is made difficult, and if said leg is nevertheless folded down, the passage to the locking mechanism is obstructed by the accessory.
- A disadvantage of the aforesaid accessory is that it is not made in one piece with the post and that applying the accessory is time-consuming and labour-intensive.
- Another disadvantage is that the accessory is relatively large and must be made of a relatively strong and rigid material so as to be able to guarantee a good burglary prevention, as a result of which the cost of this accessory is relatively high.
- The present invention aims to remedy the above-mentioned and other disadvantages.
- To this end, the invention concerns a post with two shell parts, namely an inner shell and an outer shell, that are mutually connected by means of a thermal bridge, whereby at least the inner shell is provided with a metalwork groove on one side wall having a certain depth, characterised in that on the post, between the metalwork groove and the side of the outer shell that is turned away from the inner shell, is provided a leg which, seen from the side of the outer shell that is turned away from the inner shell, at least partly conceals said metalwork groove.
- An advantage of the present invention is that the above-mentioned post, when it is provided on the closing side of the leaf of a window or the like, makes it possible to prevent or in any case hinder the access to the metalwork groove from the outside of the window, as a result of which the window has a relatively good burglary prevention function.
- Another advantage of the present invention is that the leg is extruded in one piece with the post, such that the anti-burglary provisions on the post do not require any additional assemblying and as a result of which the cost of the whole can be limited compared to the existing posts with an anti-burglary accessory.
- The above-mentioned leg extends crosswise in relation to the post, up to a perpendicular distance from an imaginary plane extending lengthwise and widthwise in relation to the post and which contains the bottom of the metalwork groove, whereby this distance is larger than the depth of the metalwork groove.
- Further, the above-mentioned leg preferably extends in the same plane as a side wall of the socket that is directed to the thermal bridge, whereby two protrusions are provided on the leg forming a seat for a synthetic post of the thermal bridge.
- Further, the leg preferably converges with one of the ribs of the metalwork groove, such that the amount of material out of which the post is made can be restricted, such that the cost of the post can be restricted.
- In order to better explain the characteristics of the present invention, the following preferred embodiments of an anti-burglary window or an anti-burglary door according to the invention are given as an example only without being limitative in any way, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
- figure 1 schematically represents a window according to the invention;
- figure 2 represents a section according to line II-II in figure 1 to a larger scale;
- figures 3 to 6 each represent a variant of figure 2.
- Figure 1 represents an anti-burglary window 1 according to the invention which is mainly formed of a
fixed frame 2 in which is hinge-mounted aleaf 3. - The
fixed frame 2 as well as theleaf 3 are formed ofjambs joists - The
posts fixed frame 2 in this case consist of aninner shell 8 and anouter shell 9 which are mutually connected in the known manner by means of athermal bridge 10. - As is known, the
outer shell 9 of theposts stop 11. - The further construction of the
posts - The
posts leaf 3 in this case consist of two shell parts, in particular aninner shell 12 and anouter shell 13, that are mutually connected by athermal bridge 14. - The
inner shell 12 in this case mainly consists of asocket 15 with afirst side wall 16 directed towards thethermal bridge 14 and on which are in this case provided two outward directedprotrusions 17. - The
opposite side wall 18 is, as is known, provided with aleg 19 extending in the prolongation of saidside wall 18 and which forms a stop for thefixed frame 2. - A
third side wall 20 of thesocket 15, whichside wall 20 is directed towards thefixed frame 2 when the window has been mounted, is provided with ametalwork groove 21 whosebottom 22 is in this case formed of a part of thethird side wall 20. - The
metalwork groove 21 has two side edges 23-24 positioned at a mutual distance and which are both provided withcollars 25 directed towards each other. - The distance as of the side wall directed away from the
bottom 22, of thecollar 25 situated closest to the thermal bridge, up to thebottom 22 of themetalwork groove 21 is defined as the depth D of thismetalwork groove 21. - It should be noted that one of the side edges 23 of the
metalwork groove 21 is in this case formed of a section of the above-mentionedside wall 20 of thesocket 15, whichside wall 20 has a stepped cross-section in the given embodiment. - According to the invention, the
post leg 26 that is positioned between themetalwork groove 21 of theinner shell 12 and the side of theouter shell 13 directed away from theinner shell 12, and extending crosswise in relation to theside wall 20 of theinner shell 12 up to a perpendicular distance A from an imaginary plane extending in the widthwise direction B and the lengthwise direction of the post, and to which thebottom 22 of themetalwork groove 21 belongs, whereby this distance A is larger than the depth D of themetalwork groove 21. - As is represented in figure 2, this
leg 26 is preferably provided between themetalwork groove 21 and thethermal bridge 14, and even more preferably saidleg 26 partly coincides with the above-mentionedside edge 24 of themetalwork groove 21. - In the latter case,
coupling elements 27 are preferably provided on theleg 26 which can work in conjunction with the above-mentionedthermal bridge 14. - As is known, means are usually provided in the
metalwork groove 21 which make it possible to close and lock the window, which means are schematically represented by means of a dashed line in figure 2. - It is clear that when, during an attempted burglary, the
leg 11 of thefixed frame 2 forming a stop is folded down outward, themetalwork groove 21 of thepost leaf 3 will still be protected on the outside of the window by the above-mentionedleg 26, such that themetalwork groove 21 cannot be forced and such that themetalwork 28 cannot be manipulated so as to unlock the window 1. - Figure 3 represents a first variant whereby the
inner shell 12 of theleaf posts metalwork grooves - In this case, the
first metalwork groove 29 is formed of two cross ribs 31-32 provided at a mutual distance on the above-mentionedside wall 20 of thesocket 15 of theinner shell 12. Both ribs 31-32 are provided with the above-mentionedcross collars 25 on their free edges. - It should be noted that the
leg 26 which is provided on the post according to the invention in this case partly coincides with the rib 31 of thefirst metalwork groove 29. - The
second metalwork groove 30 is formed of two side edges 33-34, the first of which is a cross section of thestepped side wall 20 and the second of which is part of the aforesaid leg of theinner shell 12 forming astop 19. On the cross section and on the leg forming astop 19 are providedcollars 35 directed towards each other. - The
aforesaid leg 26 is preferably provided between the metalwork grooves 29-30 and the side of theouter shell 13 that is directed away from theinner shell 12. - According to the invention, the
leg 26 extends up to a perpendicular distance A in relation to the above-mentioned imaginary plane, in which the bottom of thefirst metalwork groove 29 extends, which distance is larger than the depth D of thismetalwork groove 29. - Preferably, also for the
second metalwork groove 30, the perpendicular distance A' up to there where theleg 26 extends in relation to the imaginary plane in which the bottom of this second metalwork groove extends, is larger than the depth D' of saidmetalwork groove 30. - Providing two metalwork grooves 29-30 on the
inner shell 12 of thepost - Thus, for example, parts of these means that are designed to be moved in the longitudinal direction of the post, can be provided in a
first metalwork groove 29, whereas mortice locks or the like can be provided in theother metalwork groove 30. - Providing the above-mentioned parts in different metalwork grooves makes it possible to simplify the construction of the metalwork as well as its assembly in the post.
- Finally, figure 4 represents another variant in which two different metalwork grooves 36-37 are provided coaxially, whereby the depth D of the
first metalwork groove 36 is considerably larger than the depth D' of thesecond metalwork groove 37. - In this case, the fixed parts of the
means 28 for closing and locking the window 1, in particular mortice locks and the like, can be provided in thesecond metalwork groove 37 by means of pressing or clamping, whereas the moving parts, such as for example moving laths, for transmitting a movement of the crank to the mortice locks can be guided in thefirst metalwork groove 36. - Figure 5 represents another variant in which is provided a metalwork groove 38 in which is provided, centrally on the
bottom 22, a T-shaped protrusion 39 whose height H is considerably smaller than the depth D of the metalwork groove 38. - The T-shaped protrusion 39 hereby forms an anchor for the fixed parts of the
means 28 for closing and locking the window 1 which can snap over the T-shaped protrusion 39 as if it were. - The moving parts of the
means 28 for closing and locking the window 1 can be guided in the metalwork groove 38. - Finally, figure 6 represents a variant in which are provided two
metalwork grooves collars 25a and 25b directed towards each other. - The first metalwork groove 38a in this case forms an anchor, in correspondence with the above-mentioned T-shaped protrusion, for the fixed parts of the
means 28 for closing and locking the window 1. - The
second metalwork groove 38b serves to guide the moving parts of themeans 28 for locking and closing the window 1. - This embodiment is advantageous in that it does not form any hindrance during the construction of the frame.
- It is clear that the above-described
posts - The present invention is by no means restricted to the embodiments described above and represented in the accompanying drawings; on the contrary, such a post according to the invention can be made in all sorts of variants while still remaining within the scope of the invention.
