Description

  • The present invention relates to a door-stop device for vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1. A door-stop device of this kind is known from the documents EP-A- 1 319 783 and EP-A-1 564 355 by the same Applicant.
  • In door-stop devices of this kind, a tie rod articulated to the vehicle body slides between a pair of rollers borne by a base structure fastened to the door. The two rollers are pressed elastically against opposite rolling surfaces of the tie rod. In the solution described in the document EP-A-1 318 783 , a first roller is mounted rotatable, with the interposition of a bushing, on a pivot pin that is fixed relative to the stamped plate base structure. The second roller is mounted rotatable on the end of a bent bar of metallic material forming the elastic element that produces the force that thrusts the two rollers toward each other. The second roller is mounted on a coating of plastic material co-molded on the end of the elastic element.
  • The main drawback of this solution is that the roller mounted on the plastic coating co-moulded on the end of the elastic element can sometimes stick on the coating, causing the seizing of the roller.
  • In the solution described in the document EP-A-1 564 355 , the second roller comprises an inner rolling element made of plastic material, mounted freely rotatable on an end of the elastic element that lacks plastic coating and the outer rolling element is made of metallic material. This second solution effectively solves the problem of the seizing of the second roller, but it has the drawback of a larger number of components and of a higher cost.
  • The object of the present invention is to provide an improved door-stop device that allows to overcome the drawbacks of prior art solutions. A further object of the present invention is to provide a door-stop device that avoids problems of noisiness.
  • According to the present invention, said objects are achieved by a door-stop device having the characteristics set out in claim 1.
  • The present invention shall now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, provided purely by way of non limiting example, in which:
    • Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door-stop device according to the present invention,
    • Figure 2 is a perspective view, from a different angle, of the door-stop device of Figure 1,
    • Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the door-stop device according to the invention,
    • Figures 4 and 5 are perspective views of the two rollers indicated by the arrows IV and V in Figure 3,
    • Figures 6 and 7 are axial sections of the rollers illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, and
    • Figure 8 is a partially sectioned front view of the door-stop device according to the invention.
  • With reference to Figures 1-3 and 10, the reference number 10 designates a door-stop device for vehicles according to the present invention. The door-stop device 10 comprises a base structure 12 made of stamped plate and having two parallel sides 14, 16 joined together by a lateral wall 18. The parallel walls 14, 16 have respective portions bent at 90° forming fins 20, 22 provided with holes for fastening the base structure 12 to the door of a vehicle (not shown). As shown in Figures 2 and 8, the device 10 comprises a metallic front plate 23 fastened on the front side of the fins 20, 22, e.g. by means of folding teeth 25.
  • Two rollers 26, 28 with mutually parallel axes are positioned in the space between the two parallel walls 14, 16. The two rollers 26, 28 are idle relative to the respective axes and are thrust elastically towards each other in the way that shall be described below.
  • A tie rod 30 is positioned between the two parallel walls 14, 16 of the base structure 12 and it is capable of sliding in the direction of its own longitudinal axis between the two rollers 26, 28. The tie rod 30 is constituted by a metallic core 32 provided with a coating of plastic material 34 co-moulded on the metallic core 32. The coating 34 of the tie rod 30 is preferably based on an acetalic resin. The coating made of plastic material 34 has two mutually opposite rolling surfaces 36, 38 against which the two rollers 26, 28 are pressed in rolling contact.
  • A first end of the tie rod 30 is articulated to a bracket 40 to be fastened to an upright of the vehicle (not shown). The opposite end of the tie rod 30 is shaped as a hook to form a stop against the first roller 26. At least one of the rolling surfaces 36, 38 has one or more positioning notches able to define one or more stable retaining positions of the tie rod 30 relative to the base structure 12. Said stable retaining positions correspond to as many positions of partially open door. A position with the door fully open is defined by the contact position between the hook-shaped end of the tie-rod 30 against the roller 26.
  • With reference to the Figures 3, 4, 6 and 8, the first roller 26 comprises a tubular body 42 made of metallic material, having a hole 44 into which are inserted two bushings 46 each of which has a length that is less than half the height of the tubular body 42. The bushings 46 are preferably made of acetalic resin-based plastic material. Each of the two bushings 46 has a collar 48 that bears on the corresponding front edge 50 of the tubular body 42. A pivot pin 52 extends through the aligned holes of the bushings 46. The pivot pin 52 is fixed relative to the parallel walls 14, 15 of the base structure 12.
  • As shown in Figure 8, a first end of the pivot pin 52 has a broadened head 54 which engages a hole of the wall 14 with the interposition of a bushing 56. A second end 58 of the pivot pin 52 extends through a hole of the wall 16 and it is riveted against the wall 16. The bushings 46 engage the hole 44 in the tubular element 42 with slight interference while the pivot pin 52 engages the holes of the bushings 46 with play, in such a way that the roller 26 is free to rotate around the axis of the pivot pin 52.
  • The door-stop device 10 comprises an elastic element 60 formed by a metal bar with circular section bent in such a way as to have two rectilinear end segments 62, 64, a rectilinear central segment 66 and two arched segments 70, 72 which join the central segment 66 and the end segments 62, 64. The end segments 62, 64 are both parallel to the central segment 66. A part of the central segment 66 is preferably provided with a coating of co-moulded plastic material 74. The central segment 66 of the elastic element 60 is borne by the lateral wall 18 of the base structure 12. The end segment 64 of the elastic element 60 reacts against the bottom of a groove formed in the wall 14.
  • The second roller 28 is constituted by a single body of plastic material, preferably nylon, having a hole 74 that engages in freely rotatable fashion the rectilinear end portion 62 of the elastic element 60, without the interposition of bushings or other antifriction material. The end segment 64 whereon the second roller 28 is mounted lacks the plastic material coating, so that the roller 28 is in direct contact with the metallic surface of the elastic element 60. The second roller 28 has an outer cylindrical surface 76 that is in direct contact with the rolling surface 38 formed on the plastic material coating of the tie rod 30. Direct contact between the roller 28 of plastic material and the coating 34, also made of plastic material, could be the cause of noisiness during operation. To avoid this problem, the surface roughness values of the roller 28 and of the rolling surface 38 of the coating 34 are similar to each other. Preferably, both roughness values are lower than CH27 and preferably between CH22 and CH27.
  • Obtaining the second roller 28 with a single body made of plastic material in direct contact with the metal surface of the metallic element 27 enables to avoid risks of seizure of the roller 28. This solution also enables to reduce the number of components and the cost of the door-stop device 10.
