Definitions
- the invention relates to an apparatus for surface treatment of manufactured products , and in particular for finishing ceramic tiles or slabs in natural stone, or in stone material in general .
- apparatuses are known in which the manufactured products to be treated, placed on suitable moving means , for example conveyor belts , are passed in sequence underneath a device dispensing a suitable liquid filling material , for example wax, and under a device provided with rotating brushes .
- suitable liquid filling material for example wax
- the dispensed liquid wax forms a layer on the frontal face of the manufactured product , thus filling all the microscopic cavities present in the latter .
- the device provided with rotating brushes intervenes to distribute the wax on the treated surface of the manufactured product and remove the excess quantity thereof .
- a drawback of the known apparatuses is that the applying device that dispenses the wax deposits the wax in an uneven manner on the frontal face, accumulating the wax in some zones of the frontal face and leaving other zones of the frontal surface with insufficient or, even, no wax .
- the distributing device arranged downstream of the applying device, is thus not able to distribute the wax in an even manner, although it operates rather energetically on the frontal face .
- Another drawback of the known apparatuses is that , in order to ⁇ reach each portion of the frontal face, the applying device has to dispense a large amount of wax, with consequent waste thereof . The excess wax in fact has to be removed by the • distributing device .
- An object of the invention is to improve the known apparatuses for finishing the surfaces of substantially flat manufactured products , in particular ceramic tiles and/or natural stone slabs .
- Another object is to provide an apparatus for finishing the surfaces of substantially flat manufactured products, in particular ceramic tiles and/or natural stone slabs, which is able to arrange the wax in a substantially even manner already before brushing.
- a further object is to provide an apparatus for finishing the surfaces of substantially flat manufactured products that enables the excess quantity of wax to be limited that is deposited during the dispensing phase .
- Still another object is to provide an apparatus for finishing the surfaces of manufactured products that acts effectively also on the edges of the latter .
- an apparatus for finishing a surface of a slab manufactured product comprising applying means , arranged for applying a product to said surface , and brush means arranged for distributing said product on said surface, characterised in that said applying means comprises a curved surface .
- the curved surface is provided with rece.ss means , which are arranged for receiving said product .
- the recess means comprises groove means . Owing to the groove means , the quantity of wax that the applying means applies to the transferring means is minimal , thus avoiding wasted product .
- the apparatus furthermore comprises transferring means arranged for interacting with the applying means to receive the product and transfer it through contact to the surface of the product .
- an apparatus for finishing a surface of a slab manufactured product comprising applying means arranged for applying a product to said surface, characterised in that said applying means comprises a curved surface provided with groove means , which is arranged for receiving said product .
- transferring means is provided, arranged for transferring said product from said groove means to said surface .
- said transferring means comprises ⁇ roller means provided with a substantially smooth surface .
- Figure 1 is a longitudinal schematic view of a portion of an apparatus for the surface finishing of tiles ;
- Figure 2 is a view like the one in Figure 1 , illustrating an embodiment of the portion of the apparatus for the surface finishing of tiles ,-
- Figure 3 is a longitudinal schematic view of a further portion of an apparatus for the surface finishing of tiles ;
- Figure 4 is a fragmentary and enlarged perspective view of a detail of the portion of the apparatus in Figure 2 ;
- Figure 5 is ' a fragmentary and enlarged perspective view of a detail in Figure 4 ;
- an apparatus 1 for surface finishing of slab manufactured products comprises, near a moving line 5 of the manufactured products 2 , a heating station 33 , a dispensing station 23 of a product 4 , for example liquid wax, a distributing station 43 , and, downstream of said distributing station 43 , a brushing station 26.
- the moving line 5 comprises moving, means of known type, for example belts 7.
- the heating station 33 comprises a kiln 12 indicated by a broken line, inside which a temperature is created and kept constant that is suitable for heating the manufactured products 2 so as to facilitate the depositing of the dispensed product 4 into the subsequent dispensing station 23.
- the latter is enclosed inside a chamber 53 , shown by a broken line, that is thermally isolated from the kiln 12.
- the dispensing station 23 comprises a dispensing machine 3' that removes the product 4 coming from a receptacle 19 and acts by dispensing a preset quantity of the product 4 onto a frontal face 8 of said manufactured products 2 , i . e . onto the face of each manufactured product 2 that is turned towards a user after the finished tile has been mounted onto a desired support .
- the manufactured products 2 proceeding in an advance direction F of the moving line 5 , are then transferred to the distributing station 43 , comprising a distributing brush 44.
- the distributing brush 44 is driven by means of a connecting rod-crank device 45 , so as to move with rectilinear movement , in a transverse direction, in particular orthogonal to the advance direction F .
- the distributing brush 44 acts by distributing the product 4 already applied to the frontal face 8 by the dispensing machine, preparing the frontal face 8 for the action of the subsequent brushing station 26.
- the brushing station 26 comprises a brushing machine 6 , provided with a pair of pulleys 9 , 9a (driven by a motor that is not shown) , ' the respective rotation axes X, X' of which are arranged in a ' mutually parallel and orthogonal manner with respect to the frontal faces 8. Between the pulleys 9 and 9a a belt 10 is tensioned on which brushes 11 are supported that are provided with bristles 18.
- the brushes 11 are provided with buffer elements , for example of natural or synthetic sponge or of metal or polymer wire .
- the brushing machine 26 comprises a turntable to which the brushes 11 are fixed.

- there is provided a plurality of brushing stations that , by acting in. succession, significantly increase the efficiency of the apparatus 1.
- the apparatus 1 comprises a delivery machine 3' of the roller type .
- the delivery machine 3 ' comprises a receptacle 19 for containing the product 4 to be delivered, a roller 20 that is rotatable around its Y axis and is suitable for depositing the product 4 on the manufactured products 2 , and a doctor blade 21 that is cylindrical in shape that adjusts the quantity of product 4 conveyed by the roller 20.
- the Y axis is arranged transversely to the advance direction F and the doctor blade 21 is substantially parallel to the roller 20 near a top region of the roller 20 , in such a way that a gap defined between the blade 21 and the roller 20 can be occupied by the product 4 coming from the receptacle 19 arranged above the roller 20 and the doctor blade 21.
- the roller 20 by rotating in a direction R that is the same as the advance direction F, deposits a coat of product 4 through contact with the manufactured product 2.
- the roller 20 rotates at a tangential speed that . is greater than the advance speed of the moving line 5 , producing a lamination effect on the product 4. In this way, the product 4 effectively penetrates the microscopic pores of the visible face 8.
- the roller 20 comprises a cylindrical layer made of yielding material , in particular silicone .
- This cylindrical layer may be provided with a further layer, for example of a polyurethane material ..
- the ' roller 20 is in fact subj ected to significant abrasive action due to contact with the manufactured products 2 , this action being accentuated by the temperature conditions and the speed of the manufactured products 2 in the apparatus 1.
- the further layer acts as a protection of the roller 20 and gives the roller 20 a particular duration.
- This further layer may be sprayed onto the surface of the silicone layer using known techniques .
- an applier 21' that is cylindrical in shape in particular an applying drum 76 , that applies the product 4 to the roller 20 , adjusting the quantity of product 4 transferred from the roller 20 to the frontal face 8.
- the Y axis is arranged transversely to the advance direction F and the applier 21' is substantially parallel to the roller 20 near an upper region of the roller 20 , so that a collecting gap 31 , defined between the applier 21' and the roller 20, can be occupied by the
- the receptacle 19 can be connected to a source of overpressure 75 so that inside the receptacle 19 there is positive pressure P+ with respect to the pressure in the chamber 53 , this positive pressure P+ facilitating the
- the applying drum 16 is rotatably supported on a frame 22 and is rotatable in a direction S around a Y' axis that is substantially parallel to
- roller 20 is rotatably supported on the frame 22 and can rotate in a direction R opposite the direction S .
- the direction R is such that the portion of roller 20 that deposits the product 4 through contact onto the manufactured product 2 moves at a speed that matches the
- roller 20 is driven by a motor 55 and rotatingly drags the applying drum 76.
- the applier 21 ' comprises a plurality of recesses 27 , suitable for receiving the product 4 and arranging it on the roller 20.
- the recesses 27 define grooves that extend longitudinally on the external surface of the applying drum 76 and are substantially parallel to one another and to the Y' axis . As shown in Figure 7 , the product 4 , received in the recesses 27 facing the collecting gap 31, is deposited by the applying
- drum 76 through contact onto the roller 20 , in the form of raised strips 24 on the roller 20.
- the roller 20 rotates at a tangential speed that is greater than the advance speed of the moving line 5 , so as to rotate and slide on the frontal faces 8 , producing a product 4 laminating effect during the transfer of the product 4 to the manufactured products 2.
- the strips 24 are thus spread to form a web of product 4.
- the product 4 effectively penetrates the microscopic pores of the frontal face 8.
- the roller 20 is furthermore pressed against the manufactured products 2 with a certain force, so as to make lamination even more effective .
- the force exerted by the roller 20 on the frontal faces 8 is substantially due to the weight of the frame 22 and of the components connected thereto and can be adjusted by means of an adjusting device 32.
- An end 34 of the frame 22 is hinged by means of a pivot 29 to a further frame 25 with respect to which the frame 22 can rotate together with the roller 20 and the applying drum 76 , to move the roller 20 towards or away from the moving line 5 , and therefore the manufactured products 2.
- the further frame 25 is fixed with respect to a base plane, such as for example the ground .
- a further end 35 of the frame 22 which further end 35 is free and opposite the end 34 , is supported by the adjusting device 32 connected to an appendage 36 provided in the frame 22.
- the adjusting device 32 comprises a spring 37 , tensioned with a certain preload, between the appendage 36 and an adjusting element 38 connected to the further frame 25.
- the adjusting element 38 in a portion thereof opposite the portion in which it is connected to the spring 37 , comprises a threaded bar 39 received in a through hole 41 , which is obtained in a stop plate 42.
- the stop plate 42 is then mounted on the further frame 25.
- a nut 40 is screwed on the threaded bar 39 until it is in contact with the stop plate 42.
- the weight of the frame 22 and of the components thereof is opposed by the preloading force of the spring 37 and the resulting weight force of the frame 22 and of the components thereof and of the preload of the spring 37 is the force exerted by the roller 20 on the manufactured products 2.
- the threaded bar 39 is translated to the stop plate 42 in a direction indicated by the arrow Vl .
- This causes an elongation of the spring ' 37 , which causes a reaction of the latter of a value that is proportional to the elongation undergone by it , according to the elastic constant of the spring 37 and in a direction opposite the elongation .
- the force exercised by the roller 20 on the frontal face is in this case reduced with respect to the initial configuration, inasmuch as the force exerted by the spring 37 is increased that overall opposes the weight of the frame 22 and of the components thereof .
- the apparatus 1 comprises a further adjusting device, that enables a first adjustment of the position of the roller 20 to be performed in which the frame 22 is arranged so that the roller 20 is moved up to the moving- line 5 with respect to the further frame 25 rotating around the pivot 29.
- the adjusting device 32 is on the other hand used to perform a second adjustment , that is more- accurate than the first adjustment, that enables the force exerted by the roller 20 on the manufactured products 2 to be varied.
- the applier 21' is ⁇ furthermore rotatable around a further Y' ' axis , substantially- parallel to the Y' axis and passing through a point 46 of the frame 22.
- An arm 47 connects the applying drum 76 to the frame 22 and has ends hinged respectively on the applying drum 76 and on the point 46. The applier 21' can thus be rotated around the point 46 so as to be moved away from the roller 20. This enables the maintenance operations to be simplified that have to be conducted on the applying drum 76 , in particular cleaning or replacing the applying drum 76.
- the roller 20 comprises a smooth surface 63 made of yielding material , such as for example rubber, silicone, polyurethane or polychloroprene .
- the' collecting gap 31 is delimited below by portions of the applying drum 76 and of the roller 20 and laterally by a pair of blocking elements 48.
- the distance between internal faces 49 of the blocking elements 48 facing the inside of the collecting gap 31 corresponds to the transverse dimension of the slab that has to be finished.
- the blocking elements 48 are at a distance corresponding to a maximum transverse dimension of the slabs that have to be finished .
- Each blocking element 48 is fixed by screws 51 to a plate 50.
- the plate 50 is provided with a shank 52 that is received in a slot 54 obtained in a bar 57 fixed to the frame 22.
- the bar 57 comprises a slot 54 for each blocking element 48 in end regions of the bar 57.
- the slot 54 develops substantially ' parallel to the Y' axis of the applying drum 76.
- the shank 52 can slide in the slot 54 and be fixed in a desired position by means of a screw that is not shown .
- each blocking element 48 having to adhere from one side to the curve of the applying drum 76 and from another side to the curve of the roller 20 to contain the wax inside the collecting gap 31 , comprises a first curved surface 58 , arranged for interacting with the external surface of the applying drum 76 , and a second curved surface 59 , arranged for interacting in a shapingly coupled manner with a portion of the roller 20.
- the first curved surface 58 and the second curved surface 59 meet in a sharp edge 60 that is arranged near a zone in which the applying drum 76 and the roller 20 are in contact .
- the first curved surface 58 is cylindrical .
- the second curved surface 59 can be cylindrical and in particular may have a curvature radius that is greater than that of the first curved surface 58.
- the blocking element 48 can be of yielding material , in particular polymer material , such as rubber for example .
- the blocking element 48 furthermore comprises a third surface 74 substantially orthogonal to the plate 50 and tilted towards the inside of the collecting gap 31.
- the apparatus 1 furthermore comprises scraping means arranged for cleaning possible residues of product 4 from the surfaces of the roller 20 , in particular, two scrapers 61 are provided that are arranged at opposite ends of the roller 20 to convey the product 4 from these ends to a central region of the roller 20.
- Each scraper 61 comprises a blade 62 , in particular metal , substantially rectangular in shape, a first side 64 of which is placed in contact with the smooth surface 63 near the top of the roller 20.
- the blade 62 is tilted by a certain angle with . respect to a vertical plane passing through the angle Y so that a second side 65 , opposite the side 64 , is turned towards a region, further from the collecting gap 31.
- the blade ' 62 is rotated ' with respect to an axis thereof passing through middle points of the sides 64 and 65 so that the extensions of the sides 64 of the two blades 62 meet in a region nearer the collecting gap 31.
- the blade 62 is pressed against a top portion of the smooth surface 63 of the roller 20 , so as to act with a certain scraping force .
- the blade 62 is flexible, it adopts a slightly curved configuration .
- the blade 62 is fixed between a support 66 and an opposing plate 67 by means of removable connecting organs 68.
- the support 66 can slide along a rod 69 arranged above the roller 20 and substantially parallel to the Y axis , so that the position of the blade 62 can be adjusted parallel to the Y axis .
- the support 66 is connected to the frame 22 through connecting elements 70 comprising further rods 71 held in position by pincers 72 by means of bolts 73. By varying the position of the pincers 72 on the further rods 71 , it is possible to adjust the distance of the blade 62 from the roller 20 and thus modify the scraping force of the blade.62.
- the roller 20 acts by sliding and pressing against the manufactured ' product 2 so that in the contact zone the product 4 is also spread in a transverse direction that is substantially parallel to the Y axis , directed towards the bases of the roller 20. This enables also the edges of the manufactured products 2 to be reached effectively.
- the product 4 being viscose, the part of product 4 that is pushed to the bases of the roller 20 remains adhering to the smooth surface 63 even when the roller 20 separates from the manufactured product 2 and is conveyed to the top of the roller 20.
- the scrapers 61 act on the smooth surface 63 to prevent part of the product 4 from being able to accumulate in zones of the roller 20 outside the blocking elements 48. When the part of product 4 reaches the scrapers 61, the- latter push the part of product to a central zone of the roller 20 , along a path indicated by the arrows T in Figure 5 and delimited by the first side 64.
