Definitions
- the invention relates to a mallet instrument with a resonance box, on which a number of sound bars are mounted, wherein the resonance box is divided into a plurality of spaced apart by vertical partitions resonance chambers, each of which is associated with one or more of the sound bars.
- Such a mallet instrument is for example from the DE 73 46 111 U1 or the NL 76 05 085 known. Such instruments are used both as xylophones (with wooden sound bars) and metallophones (with metallic sound bars).
- Simple conventional bar instruments with at least one octave pitch in the soprano and alto sections have a single resonant space for all the bars. These structurally simple instruments have a correspondingly worse unbalanced and weak sound with increasing depth of sound from about F 2 .
- the most optimal sound is obtained if a separate resonance chamber is provided under each tone bar. This leads to a considerable construction cost, which makes it necessary not only partitions, but also different resonance heights for a good sound with increasing depth of sound, whereby the instrument is correspondingly expensive.
- such instruments have a larger size, since for optimal sound (per sound bar a resonance chamber), the resonance chambers must be correspondingly large ie high.
- Object of the present invention is therefore to provide a structurally simple and at the same time as flat as possible Stabspielinstrument that meets at the same time sophisticated sound requirements.
- the feature combination according to the invention initially allows a compact construction and thus a low overall height in that the third to fifth sound bars is assigned a common resonance space with a sound hole. While the sound optimal dimensioning of the resonant space for the two lowest sound bars due to the available in the instrument longitudinal space at sufficiently low height is little problematic (the instrument only a little longer), can be clear by the summary of the following three sound bars with respect to a common resonant space compared to a conventionally provided resonant space only for two sound bars (ie the third and fourth) a lot of space to be "saved" what to a significant reduction in height can be used.
- each resonance chamber receives the space required for a good sound.
- the dimensioning of the first resonance space for the tone bars 1 and 2 by adaptation of the outer contour (instrument length) and with sufficiently available resonance space height is not a serious problem.
- the dimensioning of the second resonant space for the tone bars 3 to 5 defines the overall height of the entire instrument for a given instrument width and tone bar width as well as a favorably selected sound hole.
- the further resonance chambers for the sound bars 6 + 7, 8 + 9, etc. are smaller than the available space for optimal sound, so that the dimensioning of the formed in the plastic insert resonance chambers (wall and floor thicknesses) these for a good sound get required size.
- the plastic insert is inserted into the resonance box, so that outside of the plastic insert one or more resonance chambers are formed.
- the plastic insert forms between 3 and 5 resonance chambers.
- the plastic insert 4 forms resonance chambers for the uppermost 8 Claves.
- the remaining two resonance chambers for the lowest 5 sound bars are defined by a "conventional" partition wall.
- the plastic insert is formed from expanded polypropylene (EPP). These are closed-cell foams with gram weights of 30-80 g / l.
- EPP expanded polypropylene
- This plastic has the advantage that in the injection molding very smooth and hard surfaces are formed, which compared to other plastics such as polystyrene or polyethylene leads to improved sound.
- a further advantage of this plastic is that when the entire resonance box is manufactured, it forms a resonance box which is largely immune to damage (for example from falling down). Deformations are regressed.
- Particularly suitable is such an instrument for the alto pitch with a low initial tone between C 1 and F 1 .
- the initial tone is C 2 and F 2 .
- FIG. 1 shows the top view of a first embodiment of an alto-mallet instrument 10, which consists of a resonance box 12 , on which a number of sound bars 14 are mounted.
- 16a and 16b are left and right walls of the resonance box 12 , with 18a and 18b upper and lower side walls.
- the sound bars 14 are fixed by pins 19 on an upper cover plate 24 in terms of location.
- Reference numeral 20 denotes a partition wall by means of which a first resonance space 22a for the first two deepest sound bars 14a and 14b is formed between outer wall 16a, partition wall 20, upper and lower side walls 18a and 18b, and the bottom plate not shown, and the cover plate 24 on which all Sound bars 14 are attached.
- a sound hole 26a associated with the first resonance space 22a is formed below the two sound bars 14a and 14b in the cover plate 24 .
- a second resonant space 22b for the three next bars 14c, 14d and 14e is formed between the partition wall 20, upper and lower side walls 18a and 18b, the bottom plate and the top plate 24 and the left end wall 27 of a plastic insert 28 .
- a sound hole 26b associated with the second resonance space 22b is formed below the sound bars 14c to 14e in the cover plate 24 .
- the plastic insert 28 comprises four resonance chambers 22 c - 22 f, which are delimited by partition walls 30 against each other. Associated with these resonance chambers 22c - 22f , further sound holes 26c - 26f are formed in the cover plate 24 . These four resonance chambers 22c - 22f each serve two sound bars. Because for an optimal sound with increasing pitch of the sound bars, the associated resonance rooms have to become smaller and smaller and disproportionately in relation to themselves anyway approaching side walls 18a and 18b, laterally larger areas 32 are left with solid material.
- FIG. 2 is the in Fig. 1 Plastic insert 28 already shown again shown in plan view, as well as sectional side view and perspective. In the side view it can be seen that the bottom of the plastic insert 28 in the region of the resonance chambers 22e and 22f to further reduce the same is formed thicker than the bottom in the region of the other resonance chambers 22c and 22d.
- FIG. 3 shows top view and longitudinal section of a half-tone supplement box 40.
- the in Fig. 1 and 2 mallet percussion instrument 10 shown has only whole-tone tone bars 14.
- the Halbtoner mechanicalungskasten 40 is provided, which is constructed substantially the same as the Ganztonkasten 10.
- the Halbtoner practicalungskasten 40 has tone bars 42 for the semitones Cis, Dis, etc.
- This also has a plastic insert 43 which is divided into a plurality of resonance chambers.
- a special feature is that a resonance chamber 44b is associated with only a single sound bar (Fis) and its left wall is not formed by the plastic insert 43 but a preferably wooden partition wall 46 .
- FIGS. 4 and 5 show a further embodiment of the invention for a soprano bar instrument 50, whose only in Fig. 4 shown bars 52 usually one octave higher than the bars 14 according to the in the FIGS. 1 to 3 shown alt-bar-playing instrument 10 sound.
- a plastic insert 54 is shown, which is substantially the plastic insert 28 according to Fig. 1 and 2 corresponds with the only significant difference that not four resonance chambers 22 but only two resonance chambers 56a and 56b are provided.
- the first resonance chamber 56a is associated with three sound bars, namely the third through fifth sound bars 52
- the second resonance chamber 56b is associated with all further (here eight) sound bars, since at this pitch no single resonant chambers are more meaningful.

Description
The invention relates to a mallet instrument with a resonance box, on which a number of sound bars are mounted, wherein the resonance box is divided into a plurality of spaced apart by vertical partitions resonance chambers, each of which is associated with one or more of the sound bars.
Simple conventional bar instruments with at least one octave pitch in the soprano and alto sections have a single resonant space for all the bars. These structurally simple instruments have a correspondingly worse unbalanced and weak sound with increasing depth of sound from about F 2 . On the other hand, the most optimal sound is obtained if a separate resonance chamber is provided under each tone bar. This leads to a considerable construction cost, which makes it necessary not only partitions, but also different resonance heights for a good sound with increasing depth of sound, whereby the instrument is correspondingly expensive. Furthermore, such instruments have a larger size, since for optimal sound (per sound bar a resonance chamber), the resonance chambers must be correspondingly large ie high.
Will you reduce the number of resonant chambers to reduce the construction costs, at least in the alto or bass and parts of the soprano, so assign a resonance chamber several sound bars, this leads to a need for the attachment of sound holes, which are assigned to the individual sound bars considerable enlargement of the respective resonance space. This can be used to reduce the height.
Furthermore, it is known to play bar instruments in the classical construction, in which the recording or holding pins for the sound bars are located directly in the side wall, with a resonance box made of plastic, to reduce the manufacturing cost. However, this design has the disadvantage that the recording or holding pins for the sound bars break out of the plastic wall, which is difficult reparable.
There are also soprano glockenspiels with plastic resonance boxes. Due to the high pitches (two octaves higher than alto-xylophone) and the metallic sound bars with the high volume of the sound radiation, the problem of training and correct dimensioning of a resonance chamber does not arise to such an extent with these instruments.
Object of the present invention is therefore to provide a structurally simple and at the same time as flat as possible Stabspielinstrument that meets at the same time sophisticated sound requirements.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features specified in
The feature combination according to the invention initially allows a compact construction and thus a low overall height in that the third to fifth sound bars is assigned a common resonance space with a sound hole.
This now possible flat design according to the invention leads to the fact that a plastic insert can be provided in order to reduce the production cost, without the disadvantages of the plastic insert in instruments of classical design (the breaking out of the recording pins) is to be feared.
The special feature of this combination of features is that each resonance chamber receives the space required for a good sound.
As already mentioned, the dimensioning of the first resonance space for the
In a first embodiment of the invention, the plastic insert is inserted into the resonance box, so that outside of the plastic insert one or more resonance chambers are formed.
In an advantageous development of the invention, the plastic insert forms between 3 and 5 resonance chambers. In an instrument with, for example, 13 sound bars, the plastic insert 4 forms resonance chambers for the uppermost 8 Claves. The remaining two resonance chambers for the lowest 5 sound bars are defined by a "conventional" partition wall.
Preferably, the plastic insert is formed from expanded polypropylene (EPP). These are closed-cell foams with gram weights of 30-80 g / l. This plastic has the advantage that in the injection molding very smooth and hard surfaces are formed, which compared to other plastics such as polystyrene or polyethylene leads to improved sound. A further advantage of this plastic is that when the entire resonance box is manufactured, it forms a resonance box which is largely immune to damage (for example from falling down). Deformations are regressed.
Bei einem Instrument der Sopranlage liegt der Anfangston bei C2 und F2.Particularly suitable is such an instrument for the alto pitch with a low initial tone between C 1 and F 1 . For a soprano instrument, the initial tone is C 2 and F 2 .
